  • I hope this will save someone some time. In my research I could not get these answers before I set out to remove my CP3. I created this after my trial and error experience. Pump rebuild was done by Diesel Speed & Marine in Cleburne Tx.

    In case you noticed, one of the thermostats is upside down. These were new and I just put them in place to keep stuff out.

    Lol, as soon as you said insulation, I knew where you were going, as I had some "insulation" when I did my turbo horn. Had my wife put gloves on and remove some poor little bastards nest

    I just replaced my cp3 on my LMM (08).I did not have to remove the y bridge to remove or install the cp3. just removed the 2 bottom y bridge bolts and the cp3 wiggled in and out easily. I doubt I have a special unit as everything is stock.

    The Y bridge is part of the intake air manifolds and has been removed from your truck, you were pointing at and calling the water crossover/thermostat housing the Y bridge. Not the same thing.

    I've got a question I had my injectors replaced as well as the CP3 pump and seals my understanding is that the mileage should improve but it's actually gotten worse by quite a bit anyway I don't know if I'm wrong or right I appreciate any information you can give me thank you oh yes I also had it done by a diesel mechanic shop

    What was your method to get the CP3 out of the block? Mine seems to slide back about 1/8" inch and then not want to move further. Not sure if its not sliding out of the gears right or I just need a crow bar to force it back into the valley of the motor.

      I removed it by carefully prying where I thought it should separate from it's mount in multiple places, perhaps with a large screwdriver (don't recall), then pulling out with one hand once it was loose. If it is only moving 1/8, then it sounds like it is binding. By binding, I mean that maybe something is behind it (firewall side of CP3), interrupting movement, or perhaps it it is being moved/pried in a way that causes it to move unevenly (left more than right, or top more than bottom, etc.). It would not take much to cause it to jam. The gears should have no impact because they are cut straight. This is why I included images of it at 5:53. I suggest check (as best as you can) to see if the 1/8 gap is the same amount in all spots around the pump.

      Got it with the large dual flathead screwdrivers with the occasional hammer on the nut through the oil fill tube.

    There is a timing mark on the pump . How did you a line it with the gear off the cam.

      Timing mark? Are you thinking of an old-world diesel? The pump creates a constant pressure - the pressure requested by the pressure regulator. Nothing special is required to reinstall the pump. Timing for individual cylinder injection is controlled electrically.

    About how long of a job was this start to finish?

      I think it depends on your skill and work pace. The focus of this video was just the CP3, but you can see that I had valve covers off to get to the injectors. If it is just the CP3, some of the things surrounding "the valley" might be left untouched. For an skilled but average-pace mechanic not having done this before, I might suggest planning on half a day for tear-down if you work non-stop, and the same for reassembly. If you need to stop for parts or tools, your overall time will be extended.

    You said you had your pump refurbished. What did it cost you and where did you send it.

      The name of the place is in my video description, above. I don't remember the cost. Only work on it was replacement of seals.

    what of a problem do you run into 0093,0087 codes ?

  • @j.onofre6613
    @j.onofre6613 6 років тому

    Does cp3 needs timing mark..? Or no problem with gears?

    • @rancher9625
      @rancher9625  6 років тому +1

      As long as the gears mesh, you should have no problem. When I put the CP3 back in, I had to do nothing special.

    mine is stuck ,,, it comes out about a quarter inch and no more... and ideas?
    been at it for two hours trying to get it to come out

    • @rancher9625
      @rancher9625  5 років тому +1

      The first thing that comes to mind is that it is not coming out "straight". I assume that you can get it back in, but removal keeps stopping at 1/4". Maybe something is causing it to twist? Tolerances are close, so any twist will cause binding.
