My 03 lb7 truck was hazing ..I purchased the nozzles in a kit ..did the rebuild myself and no more hazing. . Dealer wanted 5000 to do the job. ..my cost 580.00 very good video thanks
I didn't get a code. Mine was smoking, started off pretty light, drove it that way for 2 years and it continuously got worse. It had a strong diesel smell from the exhaust also from the un-burnt diesel. I was in denial that it was the injectors, mostly because i knew the expense to repair. But finally came to that realization and bit the bullet, but decided to find a more cost effictive way. After the injector rebuild, perfect, finally NO more smoke.
Finally somebody who has the guts to tinker with these engines and the decency to show others how it's done. I guess no chance of seeing vids about the older db2 injection pump being fiddled with because it's too old :-(
FYI: Tighten the fuel injector hold-down bracket bolt to 50 Nm (37 lb ft). Tighten the fuel injector return line to injector eye bolts to 16 Nm (12 lb ft). Tighten the fuel injector return line to cylinder head eye bolts to 17 Nm (12 lb ft).
I have an 02 duramax. I bought it with about 150K miles on it already and it now has almost 200K miles. It has always had the injector warning code flashing but the truck has always run fine (16-18 mpg, no smoke) but I think I should fix the injectors. My mechanic said that when the injectors fail, diesel fuel will start mixing in with the engine oil and that will lead to big problems and told me to shut it down if it starts running badly. I think I have pushed my luck enough and should get this kit and rebuild the injectors before a critical problem arises. Just as a quick side note, one shop told me that I needed 8 new injectors and that the materials and labor would be $4000.
Hi, What is the torque specs on the lower nut that retains the injector nozzle into the body of the injector. I can't seem to find that info anywhere. Thanks for your time. Gary
I've got a 03 LB7. No engine light/code but it is hazing quite a bit. It's got 210k and never done injectors. Would that solve my hazing issue? And if so how long would you say it would take for a first timer? Thanks
I just bought a 2002 duramax and it does not pass smog and smoking, do i need to upgrade the injector pump as well? was thinking of rebuilding the injectors
There are a couple options. You can buy the steel ball caps? But if you have seat erosion on the hole that the ball sits over then you may need the valve assembly. those run about $75 each. but if you need all 8 i can probably get you a better price..
You can't clean the nozzles if you have issues. The problem is they literally wear out. There is a steel plunger inside the nozzle head, that allows the fuel to flow or stop, with 25k of pressure behind it, it eventually will wear the tips of that internal plunger/nozzle and that's where you get leakage. Hence, smoke/hazing/diesel knock.
no, injectors will cause not passing smog, mine did the same in Phoenix.. Your injector pump will cause either a running or not running situation, as far as i know, and shouldn't have an effect on emissions.
nothing really. just make sure the sleeve where the injectors install into (on the engine) is clean when you re-install. i used a rag on the end of a flat-head screw driver , twisted around with a high buildup right at the end. Spin it as you push and use some carb cleaner to remove deposits. then when you re-install with the new copper washers it seats perfectly.

Not yet, but we're working on that one. Thanks

I have the written install/removal instructions that come with the kits.

After you take the cap off and remove the injector tip, also remove those 2 little alignment pins. If you don't they WILL BE LOST!

Well did you test the injectors before you put them bac
I have a chevy 6.6 diesel and diesel is mixing with the engine oil what do you recommend me to do?
Thanks again.
is there replacement parts for the ball seat errosion?

great video. one question. Couldnt you just clean the original nozzle with some type of carbon cleaner? looks the same as the rebuild one...

A very good vid! How much time does it usually take to remove the injectors?
First time plan about 4-6 hours per side. If you do it again, about half that time. Passenger side is quicker then driver side.
I need some o rings for the top part of the injector. You said in the video that you sell them, correct?

Sorry, i'm out of Phoenix during the HEAT of summer, ill be back in a couple weeks. I can still get you the kit if you want?
