Simply the greatest troops, writers, performers to get together to make us laugh. It's like the Beatles, they were simply made to be. And picking your favourite SCTV personality is as difficult as picking your favourite song. I am thankful I came of age watching this show, and I love each and every one of them. Thank you SCTV, for forming my sense of humour into what I am today.
"She loves me, in my amazement. I love her... what the heck does that mean?" I have been singing that for the last twenty-five plus years. Awesome & tragic story - who bleeds for Jackie Rogers Sr.?
Martin Short singing at 5:42 is arguably one of the greatest achievements in musical performance and vocalization of all time. Jackie we hardly knew ye. Granted we knew ye, but I would have to say'm hardly. Indeed, JRJ. Indeed.
One of my favorite moments is when the social worker lady says, "I have a court order remanding THEM seven children ..." Just the use of the word "them" there is such an indication of the genius of SCTV and its writers, those little details. That moment makes me laugh so hard, as do so many others in this short masterpiece.
4:44 a tiny fragment of the most hilarious sketch on SCTV. UA-cam pulled it years ago - too funny, I guess, or copyright on "Pardon me miss, but I've never done this with a real live squirrel". I tracked it down in another episode, embedded in Indecent Exposure, according to all the web sites, but it was an ad for a butcher store instead.
Cougars. They'll do it every time. I warned my kids back when they were knee-high to a bagel! "Cougars, kids! They'll get ya!". Know what I mean? So now one son is married to Ann-Margaret and the other one is living with Pamela Anderson. Pamela had a pet cougar, but we shot it. So all is OK now. Know what I mean? We're playing Vegas in April. Need tickets? Just ask. Tell 'em Johnny Pistachio sent ya.
Eugene Levy/Jack Carter appears in another sketch but i cannot remember which. All i know is that I lost it when Jack Carter appears in the sketch. Carter stated in an interview that he thought the Levy impersonation was a putdown but it was okay because it was so funny.
I didn't realize until recently that the Jackie Rogers Jr. character originated on this show. Martin Short briefly brought the character back when he hosted "Saturday Night Live" in 2012. He appeared during the What Up With That? sketch.
I've always thought there was a generous helping of Popular Funnyman Jack Carter in Eugene Levy's pastiche of two-bit nightclub comics, Bobby Bittman. Here Levy gives us the monster himself, and it's a pretty good send-up of a very bad comic. Carter haunted TV screens for decades, churning out pointless insults against youth culture, trying to convince audiences that he could sing and dance, and generally behaving like the worst uncle at the wedding.
@@itoldjaso Jan Murray? Name it not! What secret power did he hold over TV executives, that could account for his receiving job after job hosting and guesting? And I don't want to talk about Gene Rayburn.
At the end theres the mirror in the background but you dont see the camera which is impressive but then your realize, is the character actually just talking to himself.
I hate to compare SCTV to the other sketch show greats, SCTV is TOPS when it comes to the character creation, commitment, idiosyncrasies and call back of SCTV. Even the little thing Eugene Levy does here with his ONE-TIME-APPEARANCE character is hilarious and something that stuck out and lived dormant in my comedy loving brain over the years🤣
Jimmy Saville ruined this character for me. Every time I watch one of these, he pops into my mind. Fortunately, there are a million and ten other great SCTV skits out there for me.
Did Jackie produce this speciall before or after he wrote the book about his father, "Damn You, Daddy, Sir?" I understand that the book is a love letter, really - with a dash of hatred, in an almost Mocha kind of swirl, if you'll have it....
I saw this when I was a kid and I didn't know what the hell this was. Was Jackie Rogers supposed to be a "real" person they were parodying? All of Martin Short's characters are extreme but Jackie is the limit. People find him hilarious or disgusting.
SCTV was really uneven. Many skits stank royal. And then there would be vignettes sublime such as this one. “Marty ( I call him “Marty”) I said to him the other day: “Marty, your sense of the absurd is a gift from G-dash-D. And I mean that. Literally.” He’s a true mensch. A macher if you will. We will never see… sniff… excuse me but I love this man…
Jackie Rogers Jr skits was partially responsible for forming my sense of humour as a kid. My friends and I loved loved loved Martin Short.

Best ever. Better than snl all of them
It’s the best. Well said.
"She loves me, in my amazement. I love her... what the heck does that mean?"
I have been singing that for the last twenty-five plus years.
Awesome & tragic story - who bleeds for Jackie Rogers Sr.?
This is the best thing ever made in the history of humanity where the thing made is an audiovisual thing.
Martin Short- comedic genius
His mouth MUST have got cramped before this was over.
Martin Short singing at 5:42 is arguably one of the greatest achievements in musical performance and vocalization of all time.
Jackie we hardly knew ye. Granted we knew ye, but I would have to say'm hardly.
Indeed, JRJ.
Indeed.
I dig !
The expression he makes when he laughs kills me every time.
hethethetheh
Have to watch this in short bursts on my computer. JRJ's talent is so hot it can melt the screen if played in too long segments.
He tries to keep it toned down, man, but there's only so much one can do to cool a "super nova".
Ive sang that closing song for almost 40 years now. Classic!!
Yes me too!
Jackie Roger's Jr. Hundred Thousand Dollar Jackpot Wad! on SNL was the funniest thing I've ever seen when he's dancing.
One of my favorite moments is when the social worker lady says, "I have a court order remanding THEM seven children ..." I believe that this has become my favorite SCTV skit...
...nothing will ever top the Queen haters tho
Jackie a legend in his own mind...opps I meant time .Seriously, a classic character played by the legendary Martin Short .

yeh the full special was one of the best things ever on sctv....3 days in the making 30 years in the editing
OMG -- this stuff is hilarious. I love Jackie Rogers Junior and Senior... so absurd.
Absurd done right is hilarious!!
Ted Cantu nothing better than absurdity!
Ted Cantu absurdity done absurdly is perfection.
It's a shame Jackie's career was cut short by that cougar. The comeback was going to be epic.
Cougars.
They'll do it every time. I warned my kids back when they were knee-high to a bagel!
"Cougars, kids! They'll get ya!". Know what I mean?

Pamela had a pet cougar, but we shot it.

Two cougars ruined his career really (the first one took his kids off of him).
Jack Carter LMAO. Perfect impression lol
0:50 that facial transition from laugh to serious is priceless.
But oh, the results, mahn.
The squirrel masterminded the whole thing.
2:11 the way Martin Short goes all the way with a character, you can write lines but can’t write reactions like that. What a comedic genius!
Luv his moves. He could be a back up singer for Edgar Winter. 🤣
"Jacckieeee, we hardly knew yeeee. Granted, we knew ye, but I would have to saymm hardly-eeeeeeeee!"
Can't help but imagine this character by Martin Short played a central role in Mike Myers honing his own character of "Austin Powers".
🎵"pardon me, mish, but i've never done thish with a real...live ... squirrel..." 😂😂😂
* That Jack Carter impersonation hilarious! 😆
The Winds of Jackie & Jackie and Rememberence. .. a 36 hour monster miniseries written by Herman Wouk.
A showbiz legend!
Four corn beef sandwiches and they are hot, dig!
Jackie Rodgers Sr. hit rock bottom, dig.
Love the halfsie makeup look!
Effin genius!
honorable judge Joseph Besser! lol
noticed that too. joe "mama" besser.
Cheap Thrill Stop that! Ooooh, you make me so mad!
I caught that too
Love love love Martin Short as Jackie Rogers Junior And Senior😂😂😂
Okay, the first time I watched the "Fake Plastic Trees" (Radiohead) video, Thom Yorke's facial expression, I swear, I yelled "It's Jackie Rogers Jr.!"
Gold!!!
Parody of an old Hollywood film, The Seven Little Foys.
Remembered this but couldn't remember a tag for it, THANKS !!
Second the motion on the Jack Carter comment.
Listening 2 Martin's book on audio. He describing this character and I just had to see it.
Funniest skit ever in the history of mankind.
A very recognizable paradoy, Martin goes all out with Jackie.
Court order “signed by the Honorable Joseph Besser”!
Ha! ❤❤❤
Eugene Levy nails Jack Carter.
he sure does--Eugene levy is one of the most versatile actors I have ever seen
Which is why sctv is awesome. Who the hell else does Jack Carter?
@@PJ-lp4lr Thanks for that. It's actually fascinating to see Jack Carter in print living up to his stage personality as a deeply repulsive jerk.
Tom Hall Yes, Jack Carter always seemed like a parody of Borsch Belt/lounge comedians rather than a real comedian.
Dude
SCTV was so ahead of its time that sketch comedy is still trying to catch up to it.
Eugene Levy/Jack Carter appears in another sketch but i cannot remember which. All i know is that I lost it when Jack Carter appears in the sketch. Carter stated in an interview that he thought the Levy impersonation was a putdown but it was okay because it was so funny.
I believe Levy did Jack Carter for a Ronco megaphone speaker device commercial parody.
This skit is killer funny!
I didn't realize until recently that the Jackie Rogers Jr. character originated on this show. Martin Short briefly brought the character back when he hosted "Saturday Night Live" in 2012. He appeared during the What Up With That? sketch.
Jackie Roberts sr. And jr. booth have a crazy connection with Siegfried and Roy also Liberace and Manilow
Man I always thought Jackie Rogers Sr was a bigger star. This kinda killed a dream for me
30+ years of SNL still don't measure up
Too hilarious!
Genius.
if he wore glasses he could be Austin Powers hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm lol
Nah. Teeth too straight, no chest hair
What Mike Myers said to himself years ago lol.
Does anyone know what the orchestral music playing in the beginning is?
Next to Jiminy Glick, JRJ is my favorite Martin Short character.
"WHAT KIDS?" *dramatic sting, all kids vanish*
Jackie Trudeau Junior.
Funniest man on Earth, hands down!
Dad had hit rock bottom, and it didn’t look good on him man.
Mike Myers ripped off this character
Bob DeCaprio For....which character?
@@ericthatsme Austin Powers
bigpopparand1 Huh. I...don’t really see it. I see mostly Lorne Michaels, whom he’s cited as the main model.
that goofy attitude mixed with the talkin' out of the side of the mouth, there are similarities.
I immediately thought the same thing.
Jackie Rogers Jr. was the IMO a misunderstood genius 😂
Judge Joseph Besser = one of the Three Stooges. "Not so haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard."
for all around talent nobody could beat jackie man
Do I still get paid man?

Jack Carter was an energetic Jan Murray.

Oh my god these fucking sketches are INSANE!!!!! LOL!!!!!
Jimmy Saville ruined this character for me. Every time I watch one of these, he pops into my mind. Fortunately, there are a million and ten other great SCTV skits out there for me.
Look up Radiohead Conan O'Brien 1993 and you'll laugh your ass off
I just went and watched that video. A stunning resemblance! Well spotted, Merkin. 😂😂😂
Hon Joe Besser is Joe Besser of the 3 Stooges lol
Who's the actress at 1:30?
3:48 LOL!!!
I think Short saw a photo of Johnny Winter back in the 70s and a character was born.
Martin also played shecky Greene, remember that?
Do I still get paid man
He sure doesn't know how to take a fall (3:50)
He sings like Cher.
3:50 Could Buster Keaton do better?
The Hon. Judge Joe Besser. There should be a 3 Stooges special devoted to him. Curly Joe We Hardly Knew Ye.
Omg.
His $100,000 Jackpot Wad on SNL, with the angry Captain Kangaroo slapping a bitch, was hilarious.
Is there a Jackie III?
Turns out it was only a makarel man !
How
the hell does someone come up with a character that's a combination of Edgar Winter and Sammy Davis, Jr.?
Did Jackie produce this speciall before or after he wrote the book about his father, "Damn You, Daddy, Sir?" I understand that the book is a love letter, really - with a dash of hatred, in an almost Mocha kind of swirl, if you'll have it....
The Honorable Joe Besser!
Who's the broad?🤷🏼♂️🤓😎✌🏼
I'm so sad they took the "Gimme Jackie" special off of UA-cam - it was like pure crack for Jackie Rogers fans (like me)
Jane Doe holy shit!! I used to watch "Gimme Jackie" all the time, the Shriners, the hippies, Jackie!!! When did it get removed?? And why???
Even my kids love "Gimme Jackie" and recite "people, where's the love"? Then he breaks into the love boat theme song,
Glass Joe’s origin story
Jackie Who???
i like turtles. d

D Platt Part of it was a piss take on a movie called “The Seven Little Foys” starring Bob Hope and Janes Cagney.

Forgive my ignorance, but was Jackie Rogers a parody of someone real, or is this all just a creation of Short and SCTV?
The orphan asylum
Orphan-asylum.
Who are the 7 people who thumbed this down??? No sense of humor🤪
I always hated Jack Carter. 😂
It's a shame Jackie Rogers Sr's career was cut short by that cougar. The comeback was going to be epic.
+Crabby Old Gamer one lurking cougar dig!
