I can't think of a bad role that Martin Short has done. He always brings joy and laughter where ever he goes. I'm watching "Only Murders in the Building" and the cast Gomez, Martin and Short work so well, that the only thing I hate is waiting a week for the next episode. Thankfully they make the wait worth it.
Mine is in 2012 when Martin Short went along with Kathie Lee Gifford's questions about his wife, who passed away in 2010. Martin Short didn't call Kathy Lee out on the gaffe at all. Total top draw A1 class act. He made me very proud to be a fellow Canadian that day
Yeah. He taught me a lesson that day as I was yelling at Gifford, through the screen, in a NOT complimentary fashion and his grace toward her absolutely shamed me when I took time to reflect on his manner toward her.
I love Martin Short, he's not just a funny guy, but he's so good at what he does, like MsMojo mentioned he's able to do more than a comedic role and stand out in it. I have too many favorite movies with him in it, but one that was not mentioned is Pure Luck, that one had me cracking up and not just the part where his character got severely stung and balloons up. He, Robin Williams, Steve Martin, John Ritter, Chevy Chase and a few others will always remain my favorite comedians, actors and in general people....they all seem very down to earth and genuine and I love people like that.
I first saw Martin Short on SCTV. I was an instant fan. I've seen all of his movies, nearly all of his TV shows, and seen him live with Steve Martin. He is gifted, talented, and we are lucky he shares that with the world.
Martin Short’s guest appearance as a scam psychic who was actually a kidnapper on L&O:SVU was also a great show of how vile and evil he could be. And it definitely should have had an honorable mention on this list.
Yes indeed. I kept waiting for that performance as a serial rapist obsessed with virgins, to show up on this list. His portrayal of evil was astounding.
I love Martin Short as a bumbling but good natured fairy godmother in “A Simple Wish”. This was how I was introduced to him and fell in love with his charms. And since then I watched out for his other roles; his character in Law and Order surprised me as I never suspected that he could act in dramatic roles and as an antagonist.
Bro, they seriously gonna talk about Martin Short's voiceover talent in the first minute and forget about his role as PREMINGER in BARBIE AS THE PRINCESS AND THE PAUPER?! Dude played such a comedic primadonna villain in that film and had his own number too!
Martin Short’s talk show appearances should definitely be on here. I adore him so much. He is such a treat to watch and always makes me giggle. I have cried laughing at Jiminy Glick so many times!
Omg, he was so great in The Santa Clause 3. We usually watch the 1st and 3rd every year a few times. Who am I kidding? We watch the 2nd one too, just not as often. LOL
My most favourite Martin Short appearances in movies were The Three Amigos and then Three Fugitives. I watched it as a kid, and i think i had the best childhood thanks to Martin Short. And yes, he's my favourite actor. When I see some of his pics on the internet, Martin Short is always smiling, but you can tell that he's not faking it, that's always his real smile. He always gives his true himself in those movies and into the voicing. And that makes the film always so good. When I see him in some movies he has played (as a main character or not), he always makes my day.
No mention of Short's terrifying performance in the Law and Order: SVU episode "Pure"? 1 moment he can make you giggle, the other he makes your skin crawl.
Martin is just the all round awesome actor comedian! My favourite snippet from his vast catalogue is from his and Steve Martin's show. After one of his little bits it's Steve's turn but Martin has pulled down a roaring applause so he turns to Steve as he's making his way onto the stage and says "Top that, motherf---er!" 🤣🤣🤣
ED GRIMLEY WAS OUR FAVORITE CHARACTER, IMITATED HIM ALL THE TIME!!❤❤❤❤❤❤ THE SKETCHY LAWYER ON SNL WAS HILARIOUS😂 AND I'M A BIG FAN OF STEVE MARTIN, TOO. "ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING" IS GREAT!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍
The lawyer was based on a make-up artist that worked on SNL. She was very very defensive and Martin picked up on that when fashioning the character. It was always a tightrope act trying to keep her from figuring out that it was largely based on her. I think she was clued in the last episode of the season, IIRC.
Ed Grimley, Jiminy Glick & everything else I've ever seen him in!! (& a few I need to find from this list, thanks).. He's so completely entertaining & funny! Have always loved him in OMITB & his scenes with Meryl Streep this season are Magic!! 👏👏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I saw him in Innerspace when I was suuuuuper young and have loved him ever since. Absolutely one of if not my most favorite and beloved actor. In all kinds of things throughout my childhood. Even just his voice brings a big hit of nostalgia and comfort.
Martin's performance as the Mad Hatter in 1999's Alice in Wonderland was quite lovely especially when he sang "Auntie's Wooden Leg" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat "
I have always thought Martin Short was adorable. I watched OMITB the other night and am still cracking up from where he lost his tooth in the pork chop.
It might be because of nostalgia, but if I ever met Martin Short, I would thank him for the work he did as Preminger in Barbie as The Princess and the Pauper.
*Martin Short and Steve Martin appear on a talk show together* Short: "I love The Jerk! I must've seen it 500 times! And every time it comes on I tell Steve the same thing, I say: 'ya know Steve, we can watch another movie...'"
Preminger in Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper was my first introduction to Martin Short in general! He was AMAZING as the corrupt royal advisor! ...But Stefano from Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted is EASILY my favorite voice role from Martin Short, by far! I adore his cheerful, fun-loving personality, as well as his Italian accent and that adorable ruffle collar that he wears around his neck! Martin Short did a fantastic job voicing Stefano and being able to capture the adorable sea lion's friendly, cheerful personality! 😁😄
I always know it's Martin when I hear his voice! I love his voice acting and many of these roles highlighted in this video, BUT he's exceptional as Frost in the Santa Clause movies! I LOVE MARTIN! I need one in my everyday life! :D
"Clifford" and both "Father Of The Bride" films. Also, one of my favorite MS moments is his story about meeting Katherine Hepburn in the theater. I've memorized it by heart, and even learned from him how to talk like her. When he tries to make conversation, she turns to the woman on the other side of her and says, "Would you mind changing seats with me?" 😂
Martin Short as Jack Frost in Disney's Santa Clause 3: Escape Clause was how I first found out about him as a kid and has to be my favorite of all of his characters that he's played 😂💙❄🎥🎅🏻
Thank you for talking about the show Damages! I saw it on the FX Canada website, but because I only saw the tiny little thumbnail I thought it was a legal drama or something else boring like that. Now I need to watch it!
I'm STUNNED they didn't mention him giving up his seat on a airplane for Chance The Rapper's daughter. That was very recent and I admittedly thought that's what this list was going to be built around.
Best line from Innerspace: Marty's in an executive washroom when Dennis starts talking to him from inside his body. They exchange several lines. He's observed by the CEO. As they're washing their hands, the CEO says, "Play with it but don't talk to it." I was on the floor.
ED GRIMLEY!!!!!!!! I've been a fan ever since I saw Ed Grimley on SNL. Anyone else notice that Grimley's dance makes an appearance in Three Amigos and Innerspace? I think I remember it from Three Fugitives as well, although I haven't seen the film in a while.
My favorite scene is when Oliver (Martin Short) and Teddy Demas (Nathan Lane) surprisingly meet on the elevator after Teddy's stay in prison. That is one of my most favorite OMITB scene. The two actors were hysterical.
My first introduction to him was in Pure Luck (1991) a buddy comedy with Danny Glover! Nobody ever talks about this movie yet I grew up watching it with my dad.
Honestly my favorite role of Martin’s is the high priest Huy in Prince of Egypt. I was obsessed with that movie and the high priests as a kid so I gotta give credit to the role that introduced me to him😂
I first saw him on SCTV when he played alongside Catherine O'Hara, Andrea Martin, Eugene Levy and John Candy in many great sketches including a male sendup of " Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" playing Ed Grimley to sibling John Candy who was the Bette Davis role.
Short wrote an autobiography. If you like him you MUST listen to the audio version. It's a bargain - your public library has it for free. He's got some amazing tips and stories and he performs. Don't miss it!

Richard's freakouts in Jungle 2 Jungle and him in Big Mouth is awesome too
His comedy roles
I love how he does the voice of the cat in the hat! He's fantastic ❤!
My favourite moments of Marty is his talk show appearances. He’s hilarious and obviously shares warm relationships with all the hosts.
The Three Fugitives
I can't think of a bad role that Martin Short has done. He always brings joy and laughter where ever he goes.
I'm watching "Only Murders in the Building" and the cast Gomez, Martin and Short work so well, that the only thing I hate is waiting a week for the next episode. Thankfully they make the wait worth it.
Martin has never, I think, had scandal or critics of his character. Such a talented, cool, funny man.
I enjoyed Martin Short as Preminger in Barbie as Princess and the Pauper, it’s one of my favorite voice roles he’s ever done .
And his musical number in this movie is flawless
I was looking for this comment- YES!!! So flamboyant and pretentious and full of cartoonish evil
THE MOST ICONIC!!!!
I fell in love with him when he played the wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer in Father of the Bride! So hilarious!
Fun fact: Martin Short based his character Franck on real life celebrity wedding planner Kevin Lee!
@@우사민-r3c to livvub...again, making fun of someone by exaggerating their true persona. Not an ounce of originality....

Yeah. He taught me a lesson that day as I was yelling at Gifford, through the screen, in a NOT complimentary fashion and his grace toward her absolutely shamed me when I took time to reflect on his manner toward her.
I honestly thought they would include that clip during the section on his wife. Though it's fine that they didn't too.
True class act. He deserves every accolade sent his way.
As a Canadian, Martin Short's pure, undiluted love for the Great White North is what makes me love him. That, and he's hilarious 😅
Also same, but because like him I'm also from Hamilton, so as a Hamiltonian I love him!

YES! I think his character surname was Ballantine. Creepy and malevolent!
Yes indeed. I kept waiting for that performance as a serial rapist obsessed with virgins, to show up on this list. His portrayal of evil was astounding.
Sebastian Ballantine-I keep trying to find that episode again!!!

How was Martin Short’s role on SVU not mentioned? It still gives me chills to this day!! He was so amazing in that role it was truly terrifying!! 😳😳😳
Jiminy Glick by far is my favorite..absolutely fabulous! Followed by Oliver Putnam! Love Martin Short! Always entertaining!
Aw, I still re-watch A Simple Wish

Merlin should be numbered. I watched Merlin four times just to watch his 5-6 roles there.
I've loved Martin Short since Santa Clause 3, he made that movie watchable!
His small role in the Father Of The Bride movies was a main highlight
Omg, he was so great in The Santa Clause 3. We usually watch the 1st and 3rd every year a few times. Who am I kidding? We watch the 2nd one too, just not as often. LOL
@@Omar-wq9dz I do love the Father of the Bride movies too, he made them.
They need to give him a cameo on The Santa Clauses but how would they do that after he unfreeze at the end?
❤I have watched Martin Short ever since SCTV.
I don’t think anything could top that iconic Canadian Show.
I am a longtime fan of Mr. Martin Short!
Love Jiminy Glick! At first, you can't even tell it's Short. But the celebs he interviews are in on the joke and delight in it. Exquisite.
His many roles in SNL...all awesome. He is such a funny guy, puts so much energy into his performances.
I absolutely love Martin short. One of my favourite childhood actors. Clifford was amazing.
😂😂❤❤❤ Him and Steffan the little green dinosaur😭😭😭😭
Thank you for including INNERSPACE. Though you also could've easily had "His many appearances as a Talk Show Guest" on the list as well.
Martin Short was/is such an incredible talent! I honestly *cannot* think of one role/appearance that he did not make great!
My most favourite Martin Short appearances in movies were The Three Amigos and then Three Fugitives. I watched it as a kid, and i think i had the best childhood thanks to Martin Short. And yes, he's my favourite actor.

When he played the triangle on SNL. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Also, Father of the Bride movie was hilarious!
I remember in the mid-‘90s watching SNL reruns on Comedy Central. Martin Short’s skits always left me in stitches.
No mention of Short's terrifying performance in the Law and Order: SVU episode "Pure"? 1 moment he can make you giggle, the other he makes your skin crawl.
That episode twits my mine and makes my skin crawl. It’s so good though

I fell in love this man in 5th grade after watching “A Simple Wish”. All time favorites of his though are Three Amigos and Innerspace.
It might be because of nostalgia, but if I ever met Martin Short, I would thank him for the work he did as Preminger in Barbie as The Princess and the Pauper.
I was glad you mentioned Captain Ron. That was a role Short was completely miscast in and he still knocked it out of the park.

Captain Ron. That's it. He was remarkably relatable to anyone watching. You could feel his annoyance, his jealousy, but also his optimism.

My first introduction to him was in Pure Luck (1991) a buddy comedy with Danny Glover! Nobody ever talks about this movie yet I grew up watching it with my dad.
The first time I saw him, he was opposite Mean Joe Greene in his first episode of SCTV. With fake feet in a hospital bed. A treasure.
Clifford is one of the greatest gifts an actor could give to humanity.
I don’t care for the Morning Show, but Martin Short’s brief appearances are AMAZING!
jack frost was my first "encounter " with him 😍😍 but i adore him as oliver putnam
You missed his best role ever in the movie named "Three fugitives" (1989). Inimitable comedian. Chapeau, Martin Short!
You left out the fact that he is the best talk show guest of all time.
Okay, can we take a moment appreciate how incredibly talented this man is? I would give half my artistic (drawing) talents to meet this legend.
