- This parody of Jeopardy was first popularized on SCTV, with several episodes. In 1994, Martin Short had a very short-lived TV show, and this segment was on the second episode. One of my favorite comedy bits of all time! Search UA-cam for "SCTV Half Wits" for the original segments -- all are great.
Fun fact - this was not a parody of Jeopardy, it was a parody of 'Reach for the Top' a Canadian quiz show that featured high-school students. The first episode of SCTV featuring Eugene Levy as Alex Trebel aired well before Alex Trebek became the host of Jeopardy.
Fun fact 2 - When Norm MacDonald created the 'Celebrity Jeopardy' recurring sketch on SNL, he called Eugene Levy to ask for permission first, since it was a rehash of this series of sketches.

This turned out funnier than I expected. And Martin Short is a fabulous person. I had the memorable and honorable occasion of meeting him in person in New York City and it was a true delight.
Two of my all-time favorite funny ladies, Andrea Martin and Jan Hooks (RIP) in the same sketch? Yes please!
No one does a slow burn like Eugene Levy.

Lawrence Orbach’s introduction is word for word at some points compared to the SCTV skit. Looks like Jan Hooks. She was so versatile. And Steve Martin plays a great nitwit.

Ruprecht was allowed out of “his room”, where his spoon and small stovetop pot were left behind. Might have been informed that they were going to “Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma, Oklahoma”. Pure genius on display here and their professional acting w/o stepping out of character is amazing.
***p.s. Ruprecht was one of Steve’s characters Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.***
the movie is a must watch from 1988.
They did a very similar routine on SCTV, but it's still funny.

It's cool that they gave this sketch a revival. While the toteboards are an authentic touch, it's kind of a funny waste to have them...since they read "0" all the time! 😆😆😆
