My son was abused sexually by a trusted male neighbor. I told him that the neighbor would not do that and took away my sons toys. One day, my son could not urinate so I took him to the E.R. to be told he had S.T.D. he was 6 at that time. It took me 20 years to write a book about it that will be appearing on CBS called; 'Chocolate Flowers' God bless the men who had parents like I was and denied you. I am sorry and that's why I am speaking out to tell parents that it happens to boys just as much as it happens to girls. Jori Nunes

This helps with the healing process. I don't know how long it will take, but one day I will be able to talk about what happened to me.

I'm reviewing these trailers to write a blog about Big Voice Pictures. It's amazing how brave these survivors are to talk about what has remained stigmatized abuse. Thank you for bringing awareness!

A blessing that your brother found a good therapist. He is very, very brave and deserves to reclaim his life. You sound like a wonderful support for your brother, too. Very important.

i was 34, an active duty air force member, and suffered a breakdown while serving overseas--mainly because of marriage and money issues. When I ceased to function and feared my life and career was over, a caring psychologist, in finding out why I broke down told me, after i mater-of-factly related my story, that i was abused. that simple phrase was the first time i heard anyone say and allowed myself to hear, that i was the victim.

May whatever god you believe in bless you. I'm a survivor and beginning my journey in healing. And as I sit here typing all I can think is thank you for posting this video. I'm not sure where this journey will lead but it's got to be better than where I came from. God bless you. Thank you.

I used to live in anger and spite as a teen. It took my dad suddenly passing away for me to realize that life is too short to be angry all the time. I think it's a perfectly normal emotion to feel when you are violated, and then forced to cover it up right? I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm sorry we couldn't protect you at the time, but that doesn't mean you have to suffer in silence any more. You are a part of creation, worthy of love, respect and dignity. Take back your power and REFUSE to let these things that happened to you in the past define who you will ultimately become. I'm sorry that happened to you, but you are loved and you are worthy. I wouldn't spend time writing this if I didn't believe it.
Healing doesn't happen overnight but it IS possible. I am very lucky to find a few good role models later in life who taught me what it REALLY means to be a man. It's not all the stereotypes we were indoctrinated with growing up .. all that macho crap was suffocating my soul.
The men I admire most are empathetic, compassionate AND strong. They use their power to lift people up, rather than tear them down.

Strange how this video says the answer is to reach out and tell people what happened. I keep trying, and all it gets me are people telling me to keep it to myself!

thank you for sharing this however hard it is to hear your brother and this other child had to suffer the horrible trauma. I hope he has found help for healing--many more men and boys are getting help, but many more resources and stricter laws are needed. These pedophiles don't stop. We need to keep speaking out and doing all we can to make sure justice is served and healing resources are available.

Agreed that services for survivors of sexual abuse and assault should be offered equally to men and women, but I don't think that they should be offered together. I say this as a sexual abuse survivor myself who went through a male only group therapy program. Truth is I couldn't have done or talked about what I needed to with women there. However, dealing with it with other guys there who had gone through the same thing made a world of difference.

@RapeOfInnocence thank you for your meaningful feedback. Masculinity stereotypes
often are in the way for men to come forth to speak about being sexually abused as boys.
The men in Boys and Men Healing are exemplary men, and their openness, sensitivity and courage
are qualities all men can learn from. Thanks for your words and your good work.

My abusers are still walking free, even after a full investigation. I did reopen my case 26 years later.. but there is no paperwork left.. no trail to follow... so nothing came from it again...

I agree, both genders need the services offered but it cannot be done in a mixed gender setting. The same building could offer the services but the therapy groups themselves would be much less effective if they attempted to serve both genders at the same time.

Thank you so much. He is doing better now but it was devastating when it happened. He attempted suicide 2 weeks after it happened. His therapist is fantastic though. She has basically saved his life. We live in California where our justice system is a joke. Pedophiles and predators are let out constantly due to under funding of our prisons. You're right. They don't stop. Death is the only thing that stops them. It's harsh but true.

Men who set out to sexually abuse young boys are grooming them to become gay, so that they can exploit them for longer periods of time. It happened to my brother. My brother had a lot of problems with that because my mom had a mental illness, so these men in the church preyed upon my brother. I could tell they were after him and I tried to protect him as much as I could by always insisting that I go with him everywhere they wanted to take him...until I went to college. Then it happened.
