My My Hack to Create Hyperlinked Cells in Google Sheets iOS Using the Mail App

Hi, everyone! This is Lara Hammock with the Marble Jar channel and in today's video, I'll show you how I quickly and easily create hyperlinked cells in the mobile version of Google Sheets using the iOS Mail app.
I'm aware that this is a niche issue, but I use this hack all the time, so I thought I'd share the trick I use. Here's the thing. It's super easy to create a hyperlinked cell in Google Sheets from a computer. While on the cell you want to link, just hit Command + K on a Mac and Control + K on a PC, paste in the URL and hit apply and you've got a nice hyperlinked cell that brings up a link to the website when you click on or hover over the cell.
The problem is that it's more involved for the mobile version of Google Sheets. In fact, it really requires you to write a somewhat complicated formula that involves too much cutting and pasting and quote marks for my taste.
SO, here's my trick. Before I show you this, you should know that sometimes you can luck out and paste a hyperlinked piece of text directly into Google Sheets with the link formatting intact. In other words, I can copy this linked text here and paste it directly into Google Sheets like this. So, even though there is some reformatting to do to get it to look like the rest of the text, you can hover over the cell and the link is there!
However, there are times when this doesn’t work. In these occasions, I use this hack.
First, I copy the url of the website that i want to link google sheets too.
Then, I go to the iOS mail app, start a new email, and paste this url into the body of the mail message. You can see that the mail app makes the url into a clickable link.
Okay, now that I have this pasted in. I position my cursor somewhere in the URL and type in the text but I want to appear in the cell. In this case, “Lesson 3”. This is going to look like a mess for a second.
Once I have done this, I simply copy this hyperlink text and paste it into Google Sheets.
And Voila! You can see that the hyperlink is still there -- easy and quick hyperlinked text without having to deal with a complicated formula.

Thank you for this tip! Unfortunately it doesn’t work in my Mail app - as soon as I paste the link in a draft, it immediately turns it into a thumbnail - but I got it to work in the Notes app!
(In Notes, after adding the text you want, you first have to highlight the entire link. Then drag the cursors to highlight the text you want. If you just try to highlight your inserted text, Notes assumes you want to preview the link.)
