I'm one of those people who absolutely hates silicone-tipped in-ear buds and loves the gen 1 and 2 as they fit perfectly inside my ear. I got the 3 a while ago and while I enjoyed the better sound quality, the buds' shape got bulkier and therefore just didn't me fit well anymore. I also faced the problem of them easily falling out and was constantly scared of losing them on the go. Just exchanged them for the 4 now and at first I didn't noticed until I tried them on but the 4's shape have slightly gone back to the gen 1 and 2 and I couldn't be happier as they now fit me even better 🤩 Having the ANC and USB-C charging now is also such a huge plus!! Really feels like Apple created something specifically for my needs!
I'm upgrading from the OG AirPods to the 4s. Never been a fan of total noise cancellation just because I hate the feel of the silicon in my ear, so the openness of the non-pros with slight noise cancellation is totally fine with me. I'm VERY excited for this upgrade!
Same. I still use my first ogs every now and then and base 2nd gens every day only because I’m not gonna buy them with silicone tips. Very excited for these to be delivered. Hope they last as long as my 1st gens have
That’s amazing that the regular airpods have been really solid for you. I had the 1st and 2nd gen of standard Airpods before switching to the Pros and haven’t looked back. The regular Airpods never gave me trouble by any means, but that snug fit and ANC was too good to beat. Very interested to see how the AirPod 4’s fare in day to day usage.
@@vietnguyen2293yeah i just bout a new pair of pros yesterday. I had lost my other pair and been using my old air pod gen 2s since which have such poor volume and they just dont sound as good
Having a tip in my ear canal is painful. I currently have the 3 AirPods which actually are pretty good for music in a quiet environment and were much better than the AirPod 2 which were too tinny to enjoy music. I might get the AirPods 4.

I never had that problem with the AirPods 3. HOWEVER, I’m also not willing to sacrifice the noise cancellation. I’m hoping these AirPods 4 are the perfect mix of both 🙏🏽🙏🏽.
Same issue here. Got beats fit pro for a half marathon. They did not budge and they have very similar noise cancelling performance alongside a Apple H1 chip. I use the beats exclusively for working out now. No more adjusting headphones or losing that perfect seal. Can get the beats for $159 or less when on sale.
I'm one of those people that can't stand the silicon ear tips. I had the original APPros, and while I liked them a lot, I could only keep them in my ears for around an hour before they became uncomfortable. When they went bad with the crackle, I bought the AirPod 3's. I was really impressed with how good they sounded and I would regularly wear them until the low battery alert chimed. Got the AirPod 4 ANC the week they came out and these by far are my favorites. The ANC is perfect for me. I agree, it's noise reduction, but that's exactly what I want. I like still having awareness of my surroundings. One of my use cases for ANC is when I drag my rolling trash carts down my 900ft gravel drive. With ANC, I never miss a word in my podcasts. It's almost magic how they can take the cart noise down to just a low background rumble.

I'm very excited about these because I've always wanted the noise cancellation but I have never been able to comfortably wear silicone tips. Luckily the hard tips tend to stay in my ears pretty well, hopefully this slightly different shape still does.
to anyone that hates silicon tip earbuds: try different tip sizes. i hated them for years until i got a decent pair of IEMs and actually tried the different sizes of tips for an extended period of time. it may also be worth trying out foam eartips, i myself hate them but a lot of people love them. at the end of the day, all ears are different. what works for someone else will not necessarily work for you. also when i say try different tip sizes, i mean try ALL of them. for years i never bothered trying small ear tips because i just assumed they would fall out, but when i actually tried them i found that they are 100% the best for me.
Honestly the issue I find isn’t the size on the silicone tips. It’s the shape of the rest of the AirPod. Anytime I try the ear tip fit test on the iPhone it never gets a complete seal. If your auricle doesn’t fully cover the two sensors on the outside of the AirPod, then it won’t detect a proper fit. Changing the silicone tip sizes doesn’t affect the seal on the outside, it just helps prevent the AirPod from falling out. I’ve yet to try the foam tips though.
@@brian_mccomedy foam tips may help if you can tolerate them. for me they provide a great seal but I don't like the feeling of the material in my ear. they actually provide the best seal you can get because the foam expands in your ear leaving no gaps

As someone who works in retail, it is 95% hate the tips and 5% don't care about ANC. Also I'm going to hate this holiday season when people ask about them.
I prefer the no tips, since I also prefer over the ear headphones. However, I have gotten used to the tips again from the pros and the pressure feel of noise cancellation. It took some adjustment but it’s so worth it
My ears are literally incompatible with gel tips. No matter what size I use, I have the same problem Marques has with regular AirPods. I’ve always been bummed I can’t have ANC because of it so this is awesome for me.
I hate rubber tips. They make my ears sweat and make me feel claustrophobic almost. I don't want to feel completely disconnected from the outside world with a solid seal. I'm on Android but I bought Apple 's wired headphones just because they are the perfect hard tip. I use them on my laptop and when my earbuds aren't charged.
A lot of people who buy earbuds with tips are doing so online & tend to be less impulsive consumers (ones who know what they're looking for) whereas the normies who go in store are used to the Airpods and are looking for the cheaper models.

Are you going to post your review of the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2? I just got them and am very impressed. The noise cancellation is incredible, as is the sound quality.
Love that Apple keeps giving love to the customers that don't like silicon tips. Literally bought AirPods just because they were the only true wireless earbuds I could find at the time, and I've not looked back!
I had the same preference I really liked the original fit. Just got the new 4s and it fits nice actually it just doesn’t go as far into the Canal as the originals which isn’t bad
the worse anc than airpods pro and the bad fit are more than enough to steer me away lol, but at face value if you ignore every single number, apple still almost sold me during the event
The one positive thing i can say for this earbuds is that it's gonna be a good earphones for casual joggers. The ANC being a 4/10 is good for awareness during a run. Yes there's transparency mode but that inadequate ANC is for those times you forgot to switch modes lol (PSA: please don't run/jog with ANC on, it's not safe).
@@hannes6114these aren’t IEM. The earbuds have to produce more volume because they’re competing with background noise. AirPods are the best sounding normal wireless earbuds available. Now why would you go with a normal bud? Because it’s inbetween a headphone and an IEM. The sound is bigger (wider soundstage) and it allows you to still stay in the real world passively which many of us prefer. I have thousands of dollars in wired buds for this reason.
Hey @mkbhd I found a cool feature on the AirPods Pro last night (2nd gen). I thought the transparency has been off since adaptive came out so went searching. I think the hearing aid feature can also be triggered in the old version (and improved transparency) by going to: 1. Settings, 2. Accessibility, 3. Audio & Visual, 4. Headphone Accomodations, (make sure you are wearing AirPods Pro) 5. Transparency Mode, 6. Custom Transparency Mode, 7. Conversation Boost Lots of steps but it’s really impressive and worth a play around with settings.
Awesome review, MKBHD! Always appreciate the level of detail and clarity you bring. While the AirPods 4 look impressive, I still prefer the AirPods Pro, especially for the Active Noise Cancellation. It’s a game-changer during phone calls when I need that extra focus. Plus, with the new feature coming soon that will enable the Pros to function as a hearing aid, they’re becoming even more essential. Hard to beat that versatility!
Thanks for breaking down the differences so clearly. I was stuck between getting the standard ones or splurging on the Pros for the noise cancellation, but your insights definitely helped me narrow it down! 🙌
I'm the exact same way but with the airpod pros the silicone ear tips always forced their way out of my ears and the hard plastic was super snug so I'm really excited to have ones with noise canceling, I think there's an abundance of silicone ear buds and I'm glad they're finally giving people who they don't fit a better choice
I watched MKBHD review all of the new Apple products and I can tell he is less than enthusiastic about the 'upgrades'. He looks like he'd rather review a spoon than these products but being always the professional he tries his best.
@@articarci6426 it's true that apple employs thousands of people and supports thousands of vendors from janitors to scientists. it requires money to pay these people. one day you'll learn how the world works instead of watching youtube making comments all day without a care in the world. enjoy!
I think that was on purpose by Apple, they clearly could have. I guess the idea was not to disappoint the people who have recently bought the AirPods Max worth 549$. Possibly a significant number of people may have bought Max in the last 2 years. Airpods Max popularity was underrated and gradual, and people only started to buy more of it much later than its release. It’s there business tactic clearly.
@rahrulz that literally makes zero sense. The Airpod Max has been out for 4 years now. Your point would hold weight if they'd been released last year, but no, they've been out, and if you're still paying full price for these headphones, that's on you. They go on sale all the time. There's no excuse for Apple not to update the Airpod Max.
@@rahrulz Doesn't make much sense to be honest. You are still pissing off everyone who jumped onto the AirPods Max the first 6-months as all our AirPods Max are starting to show terrible battery life if you got them the first year. I've been painfully holding out for AirPods Max. But this release was such a low blow that I simply refuse to get new ones now, even though my battery life is terrible. I do prefer the AirPods Max for several reasons. But this price tag becomes a problem when Apple refuses to do anything more with the product for this long. Tossing out new ones with USB-C being the only difference, while keeping the same high price comes off as extremely arrogant. Not bringing the H2-chip, which has been available for so long now, to make it have feature parity with AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 was the bare minimum one would expect.
During Jobs time, tech was mostly in its infancy.. now it's much mature and less and less things to improve.. I'm not a fan of apple by any stret, h but it is what it is

I will never understand why people don’t like Silicone Tips it holds the AirPods, or earbuds in perfectly! Thats why I never bought any other AirPods but the Pros, or Soundocre Earbuds! Great video though Bro…
Dont know how to describe it but my ears get...tired with the tips. The seal is nice but if theyve added ANC and improved the soundstage from the 3's at all then its a no brainer.
Because ears have different shapes? Your “perfectly” doesn’t fit my ears at all. The best fit I’ve found so far is the air pods first gen. They quite literally don’t fall out of my ears no matter what I do. Silicone tips on the other hand don’t fit at all, they force the ear buds out of my ears and they fall out without me moving.
@@parkerbreit9116 Agree. I own earbuds so that I have something in a pinch due to their compact nature but I have never been able to wear them for extended periods of time despite having tried dozens and dozens of different earbuds. They are either constantly falling out or eventually make my ears hurt due to poor fitment (my left and right ears are slightly different as well). Due to these challenges I will always travel with over ear noise canceling headphones as my primary and have a backup set of NC earbuds in my bag.
The silicone tips tend to irritate my ear when worn for too long, and I've read other people's accounts that are similar. It's a difficult compromise to make even though I love the sound quality, ease of use and ANC.
The silicone tip just doesn’t feel natural and hurts even after mere seconds. The worst part is that no tip fits my ear. Either they are too small and fall out my ear or they are too big

Wooooo 🎉❤ That's my jersey @MKBHD!
It was awesome seeing you at gold coast at WUC! I was hoping the wollongong red would make an appearance 🤙🏾
Congratulations on getting the gold!
Haha nice, I didn’t know Wollongong had a team. Is it just a beautiful coincidence that the team colours are MKBHD’s colours?
@whophd yes, Wollongong teams usually play in red, so worked out nicely😂
Hm
@@MiniWeskr oh no I get that and I'm sure the ones that say they hate those tips are like you but that's the reason they give me and don't go no further than that when I run them through the features

🤡
I love the shape of AirPods 2. Want to upgrade to AirPods 4 for the noise cancellation but I’m afraid I won’t like how they fit my ear.
You probably wont if you love the airpod 2nd gen
I had the same preference I really liked the original fit. Just got the new 4s and it fits nice actually it just doesn’t go as far into the Canal as the originals which isn’t bad
Thanks that saved me money and time back to the AirPods Pro’s 2
They should've named the ones with ANC "AirPods 4+" or something
or AirPods Max Ultra Ribbed Plus
the word "plus" in apple terms means bigger so it wouldnt have made sense
never before did i think base airpods could be so convincing…
I love me some under average battery life, bad anc and fitment issues, truly great
the worse anc than airpods pro and the bad fit are more than enough to steer me away lol, but at face value if you ignore every single number, apple still almost sold me during the event
Over $100. Should be convincing
Hey @mkbhd I found a cool feature on the AirPods Pro last night (2nd gen). I thought the transparency has been off since adaptive came out so went searching. I think the hearing aid feature can also be triggered in the old version (and improved transparency) by going to:
1. Settings, 2. Accessibility, 3. Audio & Visual, 4. Headphone Accomodations, (make sure you are wearing AirPods Pro) 5. Transparency Mode, 6. Custom Transparency Mode, 7. Conversation Boost
Lots of steps but it’s really impressive and worth a play around with settings.

The comeback of the thumbnail!!!
Sick jersey! Where did you get it from??
The nice thing about Marques Brownlee is that a 10 minute video doesn't feel like 10 minutes. Good video.
Tbh nevery really expected airpods 4 without the tips would have good noise cancellation

Ya that was pretty smooth tbh
Probably tossed it to someone who catches it and then drops the other case. Or he just cut it very well.
@@budnickcinema yes i think so but that shot was too fast to observe and he caught it smoothly
Thanks for breaking down the differences so clearly. I was stuck between getting the standard ones or splurging on the Pros for the noise cancellation, but your insights definitely helped me narrow it down! 🙌

They should add silicone wingtips. Earbuds with wingtips are the only ones that stay in my ear.
Same. And like Marques mine never fit in my right ear. EarPods, Liberty 4s etc. Gotta wear a headband to keep em in.
00:44 Apples to Apples wise
I'm the exact same way but with the airpod pros the silicone ear tips always forced their way out of my ears and the hard plastic was super snug so I'm really excited to have ones with noise canceling, I think there's an abundance of silicone ear buds and I'm glad they're finally giving people who they don't fit a better choice

I'm the type that HATES silicon tips in my ears. I'm so happy they've kept the regular airpods without the tips
Apple really just threw a USB-C on the AirPods Max and called it a day-classic! We need Steve Jobs back😭.
@kryptx1339 Good luck bringing Steve Jobs Back mate

Great vid as always. Love the shirt. Wollongong Sydney Australia? Not too far from me

This feels weird to say, But I dare say the airpods 4 (no anc) are priced insanely well and it doesn't feel like it is overpriced.
