    Since everything in on the left side, in the US would that stuff also be on the left side or right side?

    • @noorshah96
      @noorshah96  Рік тому

      Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's still on the left side for LHD cars. Interestingly, they've left the hood latch on the left side in our RHD cars so it's a pain sometimes 😁

    I'm about to install a keyless entry system on my 1984 E30. It looks quite easy, and I have complete wiring diagrams for the car (and I fully understand what has to connect to what)--but what I'm wondering about is where to physically mount the little black box with the electronics in it--and where its antenna should be, in order to best be able to pick up the signal from the key fob (no matter which direction I'm approaching from). Any advice here? Thanks for the help!

    • @noorshah96
      @noorshah96  Рік тому

      Sorry for the late reply, I try to be quicker usually 🤠 It can be a bit of trial and error really as space availability is limited. I and some other guys went with this location mainly because the wiring is close and kept enclosed. I still have it working as is, the distance is not like the modern car's oem remote systems but it does the job pretty good. You could mount the antenna on the roof maybe? This will eliminate direction dependency. Let us know how you get on with it?

    • @noorshah96
      @noorshah96  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks mate, I plan to but haven't got the chance so far. You can get them cut I've read. Some say they don't fit as nice in the e30s so they prefer to get an e30 steel blank cut and make it fit in the fob.

      @@noorshah96 I got mine cut with Crothers in Dublin, they have blanks there.. I’m going to order this kit today and try tackle it myself, wouldn’t be great with wiring but I’ll give it a bash. I’ll try fit the new blank in the fob if possible.

    How do you know if your car has the "central locking system' ??

    • @noorshah96
      @noorshah96  4 роки тому +2

      One 'main' way to tell is that when you lock using the door locks or the boot lock.. all doors should lock simultaneously.
      2nd trick is, if you open your fuel filler cover, there should be small plastic pin on the side which also locks when you lock the car using the key in one of the locks. Hope it helps

    I just picked up a keyless entry kit from Amazon, it’s a cheapie, but appears to have all the same connections, even grounding out the same wires as yours to work the system through the switched grounds. I attempted to connect mine through the back power antenna area today, but could not get it to unlock, mine would only lock. And it popped the central locking internal fuse on me. After pulling the central locking box and resoldering the fuse realized I probably would have been better off installing mine right under the dash near the box.
    Do you know of any issues with it locking but not unlocking? I could here the keyless box clicking, but not actuating anything. I am thinking I could have just has poor connections as I did a half butt version of what you did and temporarily connected them but may have had a weak power connection. I just shoved my power wire into the back of the power antenna connection for testing

    • @noorshah96
      @noorshah96  Рік тому +1

      Interesting 🙂 While I was reading through this I thought that it must be a loose connection mainly because u said that it was clicking but the doors actually didn't unlock. And then you mentioned yourself that you might not have done proper connections 🤠
      But yeah, that's where I would start. Make sure the connections are good, maybe go through all of them again... Mines working till this day. But I do notice sometimes that it might not lock/unlock on the first key press and works the second time. I have had that since day one which I believe is because of old electronics and actuators in general but also because my car doesn't run that much so the battery isn't strong at all times.
      Hope this helps and gets you going 🙂 Please do share how it goes 👊🏽

      @@noorshah96 Thanks for the quick reply. Plan is to retry it in the morning, but just do like you did, near the central lock box.
      So yes, I followed someone’s advice months ago after thinking my locks were bad. I had a quite expensive key made by bmw using my serial number, and my locks now all function electronically using the drivers door. The drivers door cylinder is a bit tight turning, even after I dismantled and cleaned it. So in lieu of buying an actual rebuild kit for said drivers door (which I found out are on back order from bmw) I stumbled on that r3vlimited thread about the keyless entry. Thinking about how a keyless set up would prolong the locking systems mechanical parts is what led me to purchase the keyless kit and my half attempt at the install earlier, now chatting with you looking for help lol 👍🏻
      And my car too sits quite a bit. I do attempt to drive it a few times a week, but I have a truck as well. If I know it’s going to be in the garage a while I do have a small battery maintainer I keep on it, so I’m banking on my half done temp connections being my issue. Hoping so at least!!
      I appreciate the assistance and I’ll update you after I try again. My screen name is treystoys on r3vlimited if you’re on there.
      Thanks again man!

      So I have a fully functioning keyless locking system now! I used a power probe on tge connections just to be sure then I went ahead and installed mine up front making all the connections (permanent ones this go round lol) right near the central locking box. No more issues 👍🏻 Again thanks for having the video, I might not have given it a second look over w/o it!

      I believe that's a US website and it states the module is on the driver's side which is left in US..so this wiring presumably will be on the opposite (right) side. As our (rhd) e30s have the module on the driver's side(right side). I hope it helps. It's easy enough to locate anyway by just opening the plastic speaker cover by one screw and 3 more for the speaker
