microjig gripper

I had a terrible table saw accident almost 3 years ago that resulted in losing part of one finger and mangling another. One of the first things I did upon return from the hospital was getting a Grippppr. I love it. It's made it so much safer to do rip cuts, especially if you get a second (Milescraft also sells a version for about $35) so you can "walk" your push blocks so that you don't extend over the blade too far.
Can't imagine doing cuts now without it.
Love the gripper. Bought as soon as got my table saw due to Steve Ramsey showing the benefits.
I have several MICROJIG products and I have to say they produce great products. Never disappointed.
Thanks for the info Matt! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Seen a lot of ppl use that and never knew what it was called, exactly, so thanks for the vid and the link!
I do miss Steve Ramsey's channel when he was sponsored by Gripper, quick UA-cam search and you will find hom
They look really good
Got one of these from Maker Central. Feel more comfortable and confident using the table saw with it. It's brilliant.
I just got my first table saw. Although it cost a lot of money, it’s a step forward. 🎉. I think I will invest in this tool soon after my saw arrives. Maybe my birthday gift then.
You can move the middle block to prevent sawing your gripper....I saw you already did 😂👍
I upgraded mine with the GRR ripper gravity heel kit, a usefull addition for extra force and stability.. you wont regret the extra investment!
Yes that does look good
I have one and it is very nice.
Well done Matt, I bought two some years ago, not cheap but far cheaper than your fingers. Cheers Geoff
We all have seen those great intros by Steve Ramsey from Woodworking for Mere Mortals, haven't we?
Hi Matt. Thanks for the video. Seems to take a little time to set up every time but much quicker than trying to find one of your fingers on the workshop floor and to have to drive to A and E to get it sewn back on again. I am going to get one.
Yes worth the little extra time
That's a fantastic tool to have, Matt! Congrats!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
And merry Christmas!
I've never been a fan of removing the blade guard from a table saw....it's too dangerous.....usually you can find another safer way of doing the cut. My problem with the Gripper is that the handle is on the top, meaning that you still have to reach over the spinning blade to pass the work through....one slip and your wrist could drop down on that blade, and that has the potential to be a fatal wound!
Couldn't agree more, would you take your seat belt off in a car just because you can do things that the belt restricts you? If you want to make rip cuts safe any person with correct training would never remove the guard, get 2 push sticks of the correct length to ensure your hand is at least 300mm away from the blade, and ensure that the fence does not go past gullet of the blade at bench level when ripping solid timber.
I have one, and a seemingly identical at half the price knockoff - I struggle to enjoy the premium that some safety aids cost, especially given they need expensive consumable replacement parts. A shop-made backstop helps ensure I reach for them everytime though.
The gripper will be a welcome safety tool in your shop
Yes should get lots of use
I've had mine for a number of years and I really like it. Hopefully, others will see the merit in this great safety device.
Hi Matt , another great tool for your workshop, I hope yoj and your famil have a great Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.
Interesting and useful. Thank you. Could it also be used on a router table?
Yes definitely could
Yes.
I certainly use my (Chinese copy) when re-sawing on the bandsaw.
It seems like it’s inevitable. Every UA-cam woodworker tries out the microjig. Everyone is impressed. Some do suggest that have made better alternatives for very niche situations. I certainly agree the push stick is a bit of a shame. Better than hands but a push block or similar is better. 😊
Now when you were waving the Gripper around, it seemed as if it was showing the signs of a bit of an accident! Be honest, did you forget to adjust the pushblock out of the way of the blade?! 😄
i noticed this too! oops
Yes I did
had one of these for a long time, its a bit niche as its really for small bits and only comes into its own when doing multiple cuts of the same dims, fiddling about to adjust for a one off is irksome AND removing the blade guard (for a one off) is a no no as far as Im concerned, I'm always reluctant to as memories of my uncle who cut his finger off on a table saw…….
I've been thinking of getting a couple of these for the past 3 years but the price of these is ridiculous to say the least 😒
Thanks for showing can I ask you by putting a comment on your videos how dose it help you if at all. Sorry I am not able to help any other way at the min in time
Now that they can see you promoting the Grrrripper, your sponsor might send you a second one, so as you can continuously feed longer pieces. 😜
I don’t like taking the blade guard off and use home made L shaped wooden push sticks. Keeps your hand well away from the blade.
£73 your having a laugh you can make one for less than £10 if that much, so many vids on youtube on how to make this glorified push stick its ok using this type of thing when given free
It is a lot of money for what looks like 4 or 5 pieces of moulded plastic that if you had the know-how and a 3D printer you could produce yourself. I appreciate there are design costs to be recouped and there’s a limited sales market, but if you compare it to Lego or a plastic kids toy, its a lot of money for very little product
