    Nice solution I’m gonna give it a try. My trailer is a 2022 and very little use one side is pretty tight. The other side is very difficult to close and I’m a strong guy. 😳😅💪🏼🤣🤣🤣

    In had that issue, just opened the door and gently but firmly pushed the handles in, and they bent just a little. Now super easy to close

      Yes it's a security torx. I found a set at Home Depot.

      You can just use a square bit as well

      A Robertson (square) bit works just fine. its like a 12 point socket or box wrench. Theres just twice as many corners you can get into...

    It seems like cam locks are hard to close like that so that the keeps the door securely shut and keep them sealed around the edge. Moving the hinge out would eliminate the force the cam latch is applying to the door. Does it still seal up around the edge and does it seem easier to break into?

      It hasn’t affected the seal. Upon further inspection (shown in my Spartan Trailer long term review video). An easier adjustment would be to bend the lower bracket. I found this by accident when a rock pushed in the bar when the door was open on the ground.

      @@ThriftyGarageahhh, that’s what I was thinking of doing. And then I saw this video. I thought I would try the spacers but maybe I’ll try that first lol

    I was hoping you were going to say what you were "fixing" on those bar locks.
    I see what you did, but am not exactly sure why you did it.
    It just puts more outward torque on the lock bar?
    I originally watched hoping you were making the bar locks harder to break in.

    I just bought a Spartan Trailer, and it is very poorly made. I removed the cheap wood panels to install insulation, only to discover 1/4" to 1/8" gap all at the bottom of the trailer. That means water, critters getting easy access to the inside. I mention it to the dealer and they took care of it. The very next day, I decided to epoxy the floor. Did not come out as good as I wanted, but I can make it work. I decided to take a break and sat on the fender, only to discover it started buckling. I have owned two previous trailers were I would stand on the fender and it would hold me. I am fixing to tell them I don't want this trailer anymore and to refund my money. I am having to many issues already, and I have not even put it on a job site yet.

      This is my first trailer so I don't have a good comparison. But, yes, there are several things that I dislike and it hasn't weathered as well as I would like. I plan to do a review video now that I have used it. Showing what had broken and failed and my repairs and solutions for them.

      Upon further use you can also pry the tabs to loosen up the tightness.

    seems like it would have been easier to shim the one padlock mount area versus the two hinge mount areas

    • @ThriftyGarage
      @ThriftyGarage  3 роки тому

      In an updated trailer review video I discovered a better way. These lock mounts are very flexible and easy to move. The repair can be achieved an easier way without shims.

      @@ThriftyGarage true, and on second thought, shimming the lock pad area would require access underneath the interior of the door, which would be to much work. I have an Anvil branded trailer, it looks EXACTLY like yours. I picked mine up at the factory where they mass produce these things in GA. Same lousy construction...self tapping bolts where there should be lag bolts, ran in at an angle....just terrible how they build these things. I made the same mistake, bought 3/8 x 1 inch lag bolts when the hinge is actually cut for 5/16. i didnt shim my hinge, im just trying to improve on the crappy assembly be replacing the crooked self tappers they used at the factory
