How Henry Akins Escaped My Fully Locked And Belly Down Rear Naked Choke

  • This was a crazy drilling session for me, I'll be honest, I've never trained in all of my years of Jiu-Jitsu - how to escape a Rear Naked Choke with it 100% sunk in! And I've never drilled with someone who has really tried to escape when I had one all of the way sunk in ( - It is just not a skill we ever trained... It felt so weird to train like this - but it was awesome!! It took me another 2 or 3 rounds to understand what Henry Akins was doing and finally be able to submit him from the Rear Naked Choke. It's incredible how he escapes and how easy he gets to turn, I've never really even thought about doing this - it is great to be still learning 21 years into my Jiu-Jitsu Journey - Henry is a really great teacher... This is a new drill that I will be adding to my training.

    I found Henry when I was already a black belt. I quickly realized I knew very, very little about the true essence of jiu jitsu. It had been a long time since I had someone escape my rear naked choke. Henry did it with no hands. He's helped me improve drastically even though I've been training far less and have gotten much older, slower, and weaker. If you get a chance to train with him and pass it up, you are making a bit mistake, IMO.

      Henry distills things. His idea is that it needs to be as simple as possible so that it has the highest degree of practicality. What’s really cool is you can take all the concepts he teaches and apply it to “modern” (read: competition) jiu jitsu. Makes all that stuff tighter and more effective too.

    I actually think it’s like super important and I think that was really good stuff both of you guys I love you and I think also the Bernardo is such a good guy he’s such a humble just a wonderful person
    There was just a couple things that I took from it when I actually do this joke a lot of times I’m pulling so hard up on the head and then I go with the opposite hand because they can’t actually do that and if they put their arm out straight they can’t turn because their back bent. Then the other thing was it’s cool that they do that straighten out their arm and then they go belly down and then they go all the way to the back through a hip heist! But one thing you need to remember to is if they are getting out like that always transfer let them turn Pedro always told me if they wanna roll to the back OK make sure your mount them! And the other thing was is they were talking about being in Crossbody and when they trying to push them over to their back it’s really hard but not if you actually transfer that leg up underneath that on the street then you use your leg and their body to push them over it’s not very hard and that’s a lot of times when I work in an arm bar from that position or something. Then another thing too is when they turn you should pull up on the head so that road require them to turn but you can actually put your leg underneath her body and then you would still continue to hold the back and you’ll be on the back still! Put amazing you need to get out of this is when you’re in a bad situation this is a great way to get out of Rear naked back choke! Absolutely good stuff and treasures for sure

    awesome stuff. here's a question from a newish student: when you say you're transferring your weight from your foot to your head, its essentially like the mechanics of doing a bridge? am i on the right track?

      Yup, push with your legs and drive your head back, you can generate immense force

    Would this still work with a locked in body triangle?

    • @tokinabo
      @tokinabo 2 роки тому +1

      that will be a tough one! so little time to clear the body triangle and the choke after that. only one way to find out..

    For this escape is it always one side escape. choking arm is the right one so you have to go absolutely turn on that side and everything who goes with it?
    The choking arm lead the leg you escape for the first step of the technique?

    Question it looked as if he did not have full hooks in. The choke looked tight, but if he has full hooks in and you completely flatten out I would think he just continues to follow you spinning? Any one have some more insight on this thank you.

    When someone is showing an escape to one of the worst positions, best submissions, and the person applying the submission is a world champion that is trying to submit him, you should stop and learn this. Then start watching what that person is doing other places.
