- One of the most common questions we get at Moore Foot and Ankle Specialists is "What is a bunion? And what causes them?"
The medical description for a bunion is "hallux valgus" or "big toe leaning towards the second toe". It is primarily a genetic deformity but can be acquired from poor foot function or excessive pronation. They are rarely caused by trauma but tearing the inside ligament of the big toe joint can cause bunions too.
Treatment is usually corrective bunion surgery but more conservative options such as custom molded orthotics and shoe modifications are also helpful.

QUESTION. I am a 25 year old guy and my ankles get swollen all the times and when you press it, it creates a pit and there's no major pain unless I get tired frequently at work when standing or even sitting. I feel there's less oxygen going to my brain and I get dizzy and sleepy most of the times. This impacts my life a lot. Please help

Great video by the way. I always thought bunions were callouses on the big toe. Never realized it was a structurally caused outward pointing big toe.
My feet are shoved in my work boots all day and there's this pain and bump outside my left pinky toe and I was scared that this is what it would be and now I'm certain 😩😩😩!!!!
Can this be what’s going on with the side of my foot by my small toe ? Because it looks like a knot on the side of my foot and the skin over it is hard and it hurts !
Sounds like a callous. That can be removed with some otc products and a good pedicure.
@@KianaG1280 thank you so much it’s gotten a lot worse and I went to the doctor and they just keep shaving it down and it keeps coming back again and it’s not going away .
