When you add ice cubes to your beverage they begin melting fast and can often water down your drink. Using an ICE SPHERE provides the same cooling effect but with less of it coming into contact with the liquid. That means the ice-ball will melt slower while keeping your beverage nice and frosty.
We figured out a simple way to get edible ice balls using tennis balls and balloons. This means you don’t need to buy expensive molds. In fact, you can make these right now with stuff you probably already have laying around your house.
PSA if you do this rinse out the balloon because they have talcom powder inside of the to prevent sticking but isn't edible
Harsh Parmar whash it before doing ice
BlueWizard ya I just said that😂😂
Harsh Parmar sorry i didnt see it XD.
Harsh Parmar yeah and talcum powder can cause cancer 😬 he should have said to rinse it out in the video
I was wondering what that stuff is, why would they put that powder in stuff they know children are* putting it* in/on their mouths
Scientifically speaking they should cool the drink slower compared to cubes, for the very same reason they melt slower, the smaller surface area. But I don't think that needs to be a reason to make them, they still look pretty cool!
The Hobbyt science and functionality vs looks.
Ball shape is perfect for some vine and acohol. Becuz it chill the drink not to cold
Water solutions usually have great energy capacities anyway so chilling the liquid faster might not be what you want. And for longer duration you really can't pick a better shape than the sphere.
I wonder if you could somehow make smaller ice balls and give them a rough outer texture... I want to know if you could explode coke with them like you can with mentos... =p
Ice in vine? Wtf
Mic drop
remember that ballooms have talc(baby powder ingredient) inside. turn the balloon inside out and rinse the balloon. BUT if you're a clean frick, buy the expensive mold for safety
A "clean frick"? There's a difference between a person who has to sanitize his entire kitchen and someone not wanting to get cancer.
Freak
Intellektual BlackMan uhhh chill, i have no any other terms that time. im not a perfect person and i make mistakes.
this is alot of trouble for a very small payout.
So don't do it. Nobody's forcing you.
Serai3
umm...yeah I know...that's why I said it's pointless.
Just a Joker yeah I agree..
Serai3 that's not true
Well, all true spheres are pointless.
how many things do these diy channels have "hanging around" lol
All the things
An average home has a lot more usable things in it than you realize. That's the whole point of these videos.
HouseholdHacker : Food safe?
How much bullshit do you got just boxed away in your garage, attic, or even closet?
Part of the novelty of ice balls, aside from the slower melt, is the aesthetic. I prefer using the molds + the cooler method for perfectly clear, spherical ice.
True the ice will melt a lot slower, but using smaller pieces of ice will cool the drink much faster due to the increased surface area of the ice in contact with the water.
What about the talc powder on the inside of most balloons? That powder is unhealthy when ingested.
Then go buy some organic balloons that are food safe, geez don't be a complainer.
LoLo Frank Not so much complaining as trying to inform about a potential safety concern.
LoLo Frank Geez, don't be a complainer about "complainer."
Moon geez don't be a complainer about a "complainer" about a "complainer" about a "complainer"
THEN RINSE IT OFF LMAO
A man playing with balls
Nothin' wrong here
lol
Nothing new there.
Jerrie the claun
lol yup
Jack Frost's balls
Don't you love it when the drink tastes like rubber
qwertyoscar 🤦♂️ you don’t keep it in the balloon
Oooh yes i do
That is exactly what I was thinking. "Rubber" and "balls" go together 😆!
Amilcar Cuevas yeah but rubber leach into water
*D E L I C I O U S*
That's alot of work for some damn ice balls...
I just got my sphere and giant cube trays from ebay, for £ 2.
Me: *has a bunch of hw to do*
Also me: idk man this seems important
A round ice cube will cool the drink longer, but slower.
If your goal is to maintain an ice cold beverage, there will be (minor simplification) no difference, since the ice will melt as long as the liquid is warmer than it, and then be limited by the rate an absorption of heat into the drink. That is, ice cube and ice spheres will water down your drink just as much to maintain the same temperature. The real difference is that ice spheres are worse at cooling down your drink.
Wait... what?
Ice spheres are worse at cooling down your drink, that's why they take longer to melt.
You can buy a pack of 4 molds for $2 here in Aus. And they do work perfectly. I've had mine for quite a while, haven't had any problems. And much less hassle.
That's awesome. I'll definitely have to try this
you can use those in a punch bowl or cooler 😉great ideas. I never thought of this, thx
I'm going to try these methods using MIO to flavor them . That way, my drink won't get watered down and if I use a different flavor ice ball than my drink, it'll spice things up a bit ! This might even make a fun alternative to snow cones !
What if you use that method in the plastic mold?
Summboddi he did
@@DuoVersal I think he's talking about using balloons.
@@fartballs9 he did
Wicecly
Using the balloons in the store bought mold, they meant. FFS!
Loved making these, I had loads of fun throwing these at people and animals, instead of traditional water bombs! Very effective!!!
Hey HH, epic hack, I love it! Thanks. And Happy 4th July from the UK (your festive Skittles reminded me!)
I told my mom I was watching a guy making ice balls and she thought he was making ice nuts 😂🤣
tree Stump is your mom a squirrel?
tree Stump j
Cooldestroyer 14gamer shutup 😑🙄
tree Stump OMG XD
tree Stump shes a pervert then
0:12 9th Grade Optimization finally comes handy
Boil the water and allow to cool then fill your balloons with the water. It makes the ice clear.
Make ice cubes out of soda, then your soda wont taste of water when they melt
didn't know freezers could reach -50C
Genius idea! I tried it and it worked! It also worked with tea and juice!
ooh
Ummm about that
Works with any iced drink! Freeze water so your water won't be watered down!
I'm joking. I know regular ice is made with water. I'm not stupid.
0:18 This isn't true, it cools your drink slower, but for longer (so it melts slower). Ice cubes cool your drink faster, but shorter (so it melts quicker).
I'm just chillin, makin ice balls errday
I use the small canning jars. Fill 1/3 to 1/2 with water, put on lid, freeze. When ready to use, you can slowly warm the glass in a bowl of warm water to release the ice, or, just pour you beverage on top. It will chill the drink, and melt slowly.
I've always wanted to make ice more complicated. I think round ice spears will really help my crippling anxiety.

A Wonderful Video!!! You explained everything Very Well! One general question. If The ice ball is So much better for drinks and stuff, why aren't these molds more readily available to public? Thanks.
These are good hacks
Your channel has awesome working hacks unlike others
"Take them outside and pack a light layer of snow around them for some ADDITIONAL fun during a snowball fight."
With this same idea try using melted chocolate instead of water.
These are so pretty!
Hi I watch your channel all the time. It helps me learn something new
Finally a new vid
yeah but can you make clear ice ball with your method? with the ice ball mold you can and it looks really cool.
Definitely want to try these
this is simply awesome , love you work n videos , i want to know if this works with rubber balls too ??
Great tip, thanks!
Note: There's no need to tie off the balloon, which can get messy. Just use one of those metal paper clamps, the kind with the little wire wings you use to open them.
That could work but when the ice expands it might pop off. By that point it may not matter though.
I don't think so. Those clamps are hella tight. Besides, rubber expands, too, right?
this is not food safe
jack black yes VERY unsafe , even if you wash it well! I'm shocked that HH posted this- what next , popping popcorn in an car exhaust pipe?
jack black why is this unsafe? Sorry I'm not a scientist
Balloons are not using food safe material
And flavored condoms are? lol
Actually yes
4:07 "or whatever you plan on doimg doing with it" (lenny face)
lets spot the errors and gaps in logic!
1-less surface area also means smaller cooling effect.
2-spheres have the highest volume to surface area ratio of all shapes so it actually waters your drink down more.
3-cubes are probably one of the best things to cool your drink down (second only to tetrahedra/tetrahedrons) so why change it.
4-powder in balloons is not food safe.
5-nothing about tennis balls is food safe.
6-the "expensive" sphere molds work just perfectly. there's a long time window when you can remove it and there is no need for monitoring.
7-wear a mask while cutting tennis balls to not inhale the powder
please dont misjudge this as hate/cyber bullying, it's just constructive critisism.
Goes great with an amazing Bourbon like pappy
Nice video! Very informative:)
You see spherical ice for drinks, I see hardcore snowball fights
That's why we love HouseHold Hacker
wow this is actually a good hack
I know i will never make these but i just like watching these types of videos that i dont plan to even do.
Realy help full and easy trick🤘😄
You can also make a pouch out of cling wrap filled with water. Put it in the freezer and wait until ready.
Nice
Love your videos
you can also boil the water you use to fill the balloon to make your ice ball clearer and little less foggy inside :)
love this😱😍
Well the rate at which the cool the drink is proportional to the rate at which they melt so, even though they may melt slower, they also take longer to cool the drink
Can we take a moment to appreciate the immense thought that went into this title
How much festive skittles did you buy? this video was in June
You can also put dog treats for the summer The dog will have a fun time and get a nice treat at the end
Clear ice would look awesome.
its amazing looks like Cristal
The reason that the plastic mould breaks is because you are using regular tap water, tap water has a small amount of gasses in it and other impurities, so when you freeze it they expand more than the mould allows and breaks them. Use distilled water and this will not happen. They will also be very clear.
Super.........😁
I think that the egg shaped ice would be perfect for Easter drinks
Can you put pop mixed in with water in the ballon?
How to make ice balls: (give credit if experimented)
1. Get a water balloon
2. Fill it up with water (how big you want it)
3. Tie it (obv)
4. Freeze it
5. The balloon with pop out, you have an ice ball
do some summer life hacks
Boil the water before freezing it so they come out crystal clear 👍
cool video...thanks
Snowball fights prep 😂😂😂
Better way keep your drink in freezer for some time
That will do the same but with less work
🤗🤗🤗
very nice trick, but what about a clear ice ball, do you have a trick for that as well?
YAY! Next can you make a stick
Love you ❤️!
I think I did something wrong... I got a hexagon again 😕
Awesome!
If it has a small surface area, then won't it cool your beverages slower too?
Its so cool
"Literally"
I bought a spherical ice mold in the shape of the Death Star from Star Wars on amazon, it worked great
Does the balloon impart any rubbery taste to the ice sphere?
the fur on a tennis ball insulates. faster results maybe a raquet ball? Or squash ball?
also use filtered water for a more transparent finish
Now the food coloring is a GREAT idea
Clear ice would look awesome
I spent a long time trying to pull that off using boiled water and even distilled water. It's extremely difficult to get it perfect... maybe in a future video we will try it again.
alright the ball and balloon was awesome. I used to use dollar store balloons to make ice balls. now I'm going to use tennis balls thank you
Dude, that is genius! The wheels in my head are spinning 🤸
i have an idea for an experiment
you should melt chocolate into the pump that you got and put some in a baloon inside the tennis mold that you got
put some candy in it and freeze it
tasty :3
What about dumping a few bottles of chocolate syrup in?
yeah that should do the trick too
but you got my idea
I like it even though I have no watched it I am still gone to like it
This works great with
I feel like over the time and patience it takes to make this, you could probably just buy the ice with molds. Plus they aren't that expensive either and gives you a better result and easier to make.
We got a better result with our method. It's cheaper too...
Good to Know! Thanks for actually responding xD Didn't expect that!
Im soooo sleepy
*new video by Household Hacker*
SLEEP CAN WAIT
ps:11:51 is the time in my country
icy perfection get it i see perfection
try this with boil and cool down water they will by more clear when is frezz
I missed you, infinitely
2:57 Make a video on how to hurry up and wait
"Now you have a perfectly cool 1/3 of a beer!"
-Adam Savage.
during winter I get a ball on and let it out on the snow outside, then the next day it is frozen and its round and kinda smooth
Cool!
Crushed ice or die but on a serious note the more surface area makes your drink cooler than less surface area
this guy: the tennis ball is really strong
my dog: *hah noob*
