impressive review. but taking what you said, my personal choice would be the Can AM. I want MY money's worth. I don't go through extreme suspension trails wide open or huge jumps so your nods to polaris for that I'm sure is correct, but I won't ever find the limit on anything this radical. can am gives you a tricked out machine. those add ons would cost you 2 grand atleast for the polaris. I work hard for my money, and I want all the goodies from the factory. great fit and finish, plus just as fast as the XP makes the Maverick the right machine for me. thx

Very good review and episode here guys.
I sometimes have a hard time with the "VS." series and heres why. I don't truly believe there is a "standard" to what would be built for these vehicles. If there was, everything would look the same, have the same suspension travel, same Hp rating for engine class and run the same set of stock shoes around the rims. You guys would be testing on how well each company brings together those elements and gets their designs as close to a "standard" as they can, and its also why we have manufacturers pushing the limits of their designs to outperform the competition.
With that being said, after listening intently to your reviews on each, and looking at the way these units are built, I always seem to come to the same conclusion "its all about personal application"
If to choose between the two, the one things that stands out the most is the difference in the height of the roll cages are and how much more nimble one is over the other. Where I ride, tight and narrow woods trails, the Maverick has way more of an advantage over the XP. The difference in suspension would be a compromise if i can maneuver the rig through the woods without having to back up 100 times on a run. If I where to ride the majority of the trails where i could cruse at a higher speed is called for and more open areas to run, Id take the XP all day long.
All in all, Im broke and can't even imagination dropping a 22K price tag on these machines here in Canada. Ill stay fixing my old, high mileage grizzly 660 until the motor seizes. Thanks again for the episode.

I compared both again just 2 mos. ago. Sand Hollow and Kanab. I have to say I almost fell out of my chair laughing when you said the X3 was less ergonomic and because of the seats would bring greater fatigue than the XP 1000. In the Polaris the outside of my knees were banging on the panels, my upright position was more fatiguing, even with more stops over a 6 hr. period of riding Hog Canyon 1,2 and 4, and Upper Barracks. At Sand Hollow I took the X3 through the paces on the flat dirt trails by Hurricane fault, S-turns, Razzle Dazzle slick rock, more S turns then down Sand Mountain to the lake and parallel to hwy 7 in the Whoops. Except for jumping and getting big air, or crawling ridiculous rock crawling grades, the X3 is a clear winner by my trials, and is far more comfortable.

Nice review Dirt Trax..I didn't hear anything about the Can-Am 4 x 4 system.. Has it been improved and is it now on par with polaris? What about the heat generated and displaced by the Can-Am engine and CVT due to location? Has that been abated or minimalized from earlier models?? Without a doubt those are the 2 largest complaints I hear why people choose or swap to the Polaris here in so. missouri and north arkansas. Lets hear the DT analysis on those 2 areas...

I also kinda agree on the money for value deal. These things should already have speakers in them and tons of accessories. I do like that about the Can Am. Or if anything like hey there is a allowance of what you can pick type package for the accessories that you want. For these prices they should already have winches and radios built-in. Both sweet machines tho especially those duals on the Can Am 🤘

Yea take the rzr everytime. Oh wait you cant because they have a stop ride/sale on them for recalls. Ive owned both a 2013 xrs maverick and a 2015 xp 1000. The Polaris lacks a lot of refinement and quality. They have poor customer service, usually parts are on backorder. Machine shows wear very quickly, squeaks, creaks, bushings and bearings wearing out fast. The maverick just isn't the jumper and lacks that one step of sportiness that the rzr has. But it holds together and ages a lot better, doesn't have all the noises like creaking, pops, squeaks, etc that the rzr is gonna have. Put it this way, I sold my maverick because I wanted to try something else. I sold the rzr because I was afraid I was gonna start having problems with it.

I'm on the fence between the xp1000 and the Maverick XDS1000 at my local dealership. I can get a brand New non turbo Xp1000 for $15,799 before taxes or I can get a 2016 Maverick XDS turbo 1000 showroom condition with 152 miles out the door for a little under $15,000 after taxes. I don't plan to be bashing it and tearing it all to Hell through mud, hills, and jumps but if I'm by myself and decide to let loose a little bit I want something dependable that's not going to be going through belts every other day... which would be my best bet?

All repairs have been done by the "professionals" at the dealership and the POS keeps on breaking. First and last Polaris model I ever by. If you're wondering where I have it right now it is in my garage broken because I'm not going to spend another $1,500+ more on it for it just to break again. I mean it is really bad. kind of like a 3 wheel wonder until you spin your tires first before it actually engages... by this time your probably stuck even more. can am have a beautiful machine but need to leave the visco and introduce something else.

I tried a Maverick Turbo and a RZR 900s. Even if they are not in the same category I would still choose the RZR... That seating position is just terrible! The power was awesome with the sound of the turbo and everything but I just couldn't live with it. The other thing is turbo reliability, I like to take care of maintenance and repairs myself. Putting a turbo in the mix is just scary. I don't need more stuff to break.

Hmm, You mention that the Can am maverick was the only competition for this Rzr XP, ...Doesn't Yamaha have a 1000 model that would fit this category?

Everyone thinks fastest is the best. In all actuality, well in most opinions it's dependable, longevity and a strong sense of companies history with good operating machines. Yeah, I own a Razor XP, but I honestly haven't had any major complaints other than the few recalls that didn't cost me anything since Polaris stood behind their machines. Can Am from what I've experienced and seen is alot of overheating and top end mechanical breakdown. It's common sense. You constantly push your machine to the limits it's going to fail in time.

Where on that RZR does it say XP 1000 Turbo? You guys need to understand that the XP 1000 and then the XPT or two different cars. The XP 1000 has 110 horsepower and is 999cc. The xpt which is the XP turbo is 925 CC and has 168 horsepower. Major difference. Not to mention suspension and clutching and a few other things.
