- You asked for it so we did it - We put two of the baddest Side by Side's to the test today.
Behold the new 2016 Polaris RZR XP Turbo at 144 HP and the 2016 Yamaha YXZ 1000 R, outfitted with an MPI turbo kit pushing 155 HP.
Both of the machines are incredible in their own ways.

Volkz VLOGS Yamaha seems to be doing extremely well with their reliable cvt transmission design.

Cool video man, Both are pretty wild machines, unbelievable power ! the Yami sounded awesome with the manual shift, the RZR was sweet too.
I always love the sound of the triple, from the nytro to the Yxz this motor is an animal. The turbo prostar engine sounds amazing as well!

Bunch of people here dont understand that he is hittin the rev limiter cos of wheel slip, if he shifts sooner the rpms will drop too low. If you pay attention u can see him shifting back to a lower gear cos he shifted up too early and went below the power band. Bashing the driver as being bad, while not knowing shit about driving

I've noticed in several videos that the YXZ wants to porpoise when it jumps. The RZR looks much smoother when jumping.
the yxz just sounds so sick in a good way and seems to be alot harder to keep under control and i couldnt believe the rzr hung so close to it it seemed like they were in a different league but the rzr seemed to be much easier to stay under control-in the air and turns for the average rider-but im no expert i just have a little old Predator 500 lol

Guy in the YXZ is waiting way too long to shift. (IMO) From my experience, bouncing off the rev limiter is wasting time. YXZ does sound wicked! THANK YOU FOR A GREAT VIDEO!!!! Finally someone compares apples to apples!

Manual transmission is where it's at!! That's why I bought a 2015 Joyner Trooper! Before the Yamaha came out. Joyner Trooper debuted in 2006 first side-by-side to have trailing arms,!! first side by side to have a manual transmission!!

I just have a 2014 800S now but as soon as it's paid off I will be upgrading. As cool as that Yamaha looks, I can't see it being better than a RZR for most people. How is the actual off-road ability? Like trails and mud? I don't think shifting is cool either on a SxS. How do you hold your beer? lol.

Lol, chapter11...keep telling yourself that slick. Honda and yammi are the biggest pos's on the market...well, next to Arctic-kymco-cat. Honda has always been hugely underpowered and ridden like a tractor. Yamaha...why do you think they released theri new sxs with a sequential (bike) tranny ? Because it's superior to the cvt ? Hardly. It's a nice gimmick, but those of you with early (c)raptor experience know that yammi cannot build a properly spaced gearset the first time around. People will also notice that the yxz runs out of gear up top also. When/if they release a taller top gear set, you'll br roasting clutches. And last but not least...the sand fleas & goofballs who road ride will no doubt think the sequential/manual clutch setup is great, but most people who trail ride will opt for a cvt.
+ROTAXD ya. I had a xp1000 an when the rzr 800s. came out. Don't get me wrong they were nice when they were running. the problem is I was constantly fixing it every ride it was always something cv joints a-arm bushings like every other weekend were getting loose bearings hubs. we're cracking I was just tired of it I spend $20 k. for junk . an I'm not betting it like most do I am very mechanically inclined I'm a diesel mechanic by trade and take very good care of my stuff. but I bought a Viking. I love it all my buddies made fun of me for getting this thing until we went riding one day when I was hauling one of them back.Couse the 900xp shot a rod right through the case. they were singing a different tune then ..

larrymond the Yami triple will be in the 18 cats and keep the belt drive.base hp na will be 130hp and turbo over 215hp.so hang on...things are gonna heat up....I love my yxz but keep your eyes on the cat.....it's coming.
No way I am running the Yamaha on trails, shifting all day, going fast with one hand on the wheel. I love shifting my sports cars on the road but too much going on in the trail to constantly up and down shift. I do like Yamaha products and have owned a few. Glad to see them in the UTV business finally.

The Polaris is a 900 and the Yamaha is a 1000. The fact it kept up this well, is very impressive.

+cleang35 If you compare the turbo Polaris RZR with the non-turbo YXZ, the RZR is faster. However, this comparison is the YXZ with the MPI turbo, so it puts out a bit more HP than the Polaris.

Was the traction really that bad or was the clutch slipping? Does the stock YXZ clutch hold up to a 155hp turbo kit?
traction was really that bad. high revs+turbo+slick grass=wheel spin
Can't speak for its clutch but I do know yamahas are notorious for burning clutches in big power high rpm machines because they use smaller diameter clutches and friction plates that do not disapate the heat as well as larger ones. ive shattered a few in my fz1 because of this but luckily clutches are cheep and quick to replace for most yamahas

Throttle control..don't have to just hold it to the floor, you have to feel what traction is there and use it.

People bitching about him bouncing it off the limiter, have never driven a YXZ before. If you had, you'd know it makes most of its power above 8k so you've got to rev it out. With all that added boost...he has to shift quickly in order to keep up which isn't always easy to do.

The Polaris is a factory tune, where as the Yami is aftermarket......who says you cant tweak the Razor to compete??????.....I love the manual shift though its hard to shift with a beer in your hand!!!! :-)

Yamaha will not void warranty for the MPI turbo kit. So it is a Yamaha supported setup.

Well in my opinion I would take the Polaris over the Yamaha only because the Polaris comes stock with the turbo and the Yamaha does not. I will admit, that Yamaha sounds pretty damn good!

+Brian Davidson Bone stock RZR with a turbo. Bone stock YXZ with a turbo kit that Yamaha endorses and will warranty if installed at a dealership. The price of a RZR turbo is the same as a YXZ with the additional cost of the turbo. I'm just waiting to see how the Yamaha holds up. We ALL know of the Polaris downfalls!! (yep, I own a RZR, so I do know what I'm saying).

an engine doesnt make any power bouncing off the chip and hanging rpm. youd want to shift earlier and let the engine torque itself through its power curve. there isnt a power curve on rev limiter. if the engine (in general) makes max torque @ 5800rpm, there is absolutely no point or reason to spin it past 6000rpm. a lot of races are lost because of not hitting shift points. anyway, awesome video!!

So is the Yamaha dynoed? If so, that is rear wheel power then? Or are they guessing at the Yamaha's power? The polaris is 144 at the crank, something like 114 at the wheels. Not a fair test.
The kit is supposed to be 155 hp.
+Duner D Yamaha with turbo is 155HP at the crank, not sure what it is at the wheel. Look at MPI's website and they give the numbers for the turbo kit. The kit is sound and emissions compliant. The turbo is warrantied by Yamaha I believe...I know it is for the snowmobiles anyway. This is a fair test.
