  • Join me as I play as Rome in Millennia, a new turn-based 4X strategy game developed by C Prompt Games & published by Paradox Interactive.
    At first look, Millennia shares a lot of similarities with the Civilization series and thus would qualify for the title of a "Civ-like." However, this game is far more complex than the Civilization series, particularly its economic and military systems, and features fun and novel mechanics not seen in the genre, such as its national spirits that allow the player to radically shape their civilization in a variety of different ways or Millennia's signature feature, the ages. While you can move from one historical age to another similar to other games, there are also variant, crisis, and victory ages that can dramatically change the history of your world, offering new buildings, units, and unique mechanics.
    I discuss my reasoning and strategy as I play, thus this playthrough could serve as a tutorial or guide.
    You can purchase the game on Steam when it releases on March 26

    I started my first game today, and was overwhelmed.

      What was overwhelming exactly?

      @@PraetorianHiJynx I guess after watching the ease at which you played, that I did not take the computer opponents seriously enough. :)

      The AI can be very aggressive in this game, which results in some tough fights early on. Generally by the mid-game I've already pulled ahead of the AI, but the early-game can be quite challenging.

    Even if it took longer, I thought the absorption of those outposts were quite satisfying! 👨‍🍳👌

    Well, theoretically it should be possible to export a high value good like cooking oil which is +8 food. So, if 2 cities needed some food (say to not fall below 150% temporarily), it could be routed from city A to city B to city C. Where A has excess food, B is lacking and C is lacking.
    This is considering 2 slots but perhaps with 3, there could even be more opportunities like this.

      A city can't trade a good they got from trade.

    I am struggling for exploration ep and have more production than I can use. Would love to be able to do something with my useless copper

      I find I can't seem to have enough production in most my cities, as there's always more buildings and units that need constructing. You could turn the copper into ingots and then turn those into weapons for military xp. You could also replace the mines with quarries, then use the limestone to get art xp.

      @@PraetorianHiJynx Thanks. Mostly I was referring to the "worthless" copper building you were dissing. I have a map with lots of hill sand forest so that may be changing things.

    In what sense is Rock, Paper & Shotgun political?
    Honestly I think nearly everything IGN criticized were fair. I still think 5/10 is to low, but I haven´t played the game for myself. 7/10 seems to be more fair. At least from what I´ve seen.

      IGN didn't understand very basic mechanics. They stated that you couldn't destroy forest tiles until Age 9, which isn't true, you can do this at Age 5. Still too late IMO, but certainly not in the end-game as IGN stated. I don't understand how they played the game enough to review it but apparently never realized that forests could be removed much earlier. They also said that there was no combat prediction in the game, so there was no way to see how you would do in a battle. Of course this isn't true, having a unit selected and then hovering over an enemy unit will show you the combat prediction. This is how it works in almost every other 4X game, how did the reviewer completely miss this very basic feature? They also said that combat seemed completely random, as they didn't understand what controlled unit order and how units decided on their target. This is something that the game does not outright teach to the player, perhaps the developers assumed most players wouldn't care about these details, but it's absolutely available in the game's infopedia. Why did the reviewer complain about this but never even bothered looking in the game's glossary of mechanics? I understand complaining about the game not making this more readily available, but I'm not sure how they could have explained these very detailed mechanics without most players' eyes glossing over. I covered in it in my beginner guide and was worried that I would lose most viewers' interest lol. Point is, seems strange to whine about not understanding combat but never taking the time to actually try and learn about it in the game's infopedia. They clearly knew about the infopedia, as they show it in the video. The review comes across as incredibly inaccurate and lazy, like most reviews from IGN.

      @@PraetorianHiJynx Yeah I agree with both examples and it is weird that they overlooked that. But they had a lot more points they criticised and I think they have a point with all of them. Performance, no options when creating maps, no personality of other nations, etc.

  • @dport9563
    @dport9563 5 місяців тому

    As a pre release you cant really dump on it for performance if it comes from legitimate developer like Paradox. Balance issues with paradox are qiickly fixed .

    • @PraetorianHiJynx
      @PraetorianHiJynx  5 місяців тому +1

      Well this isn't being developed by Paradox, it's being published by them. I can only judge the game based on what I have to play, and this version of the game has serious performance issues. I'm not going to avoid telling people my experience simply because it's pre-release version. I already made clear in episode 1 that it's pre-release and thus the full version might be improved. But as far as I can tell, the performance issues still definitely exist in the 1.0 version of the game. This isn't something that is quickly fixed, as if it was then the developers would have already done so.
