  • The Chevy Avalanche came equipped with the 4L60E automatic transmission. Unfortunately, this transmission has a number of problems, as it ages. However, with some TLC, this transmission can be restored to its former glory.

    My chevy usually slips around 30-39 mph sometimes the engine revs to hard at around 60 and above idk if its the torque converter or the transmission also if i let go of the gas the rpms just drop right away and its like im driving a standard when i step on it it seems as low rpms dont do much untill i reach a certain rpm then it feels like it engages( the transmission is automatic)

    I have a 2007 avalanche. At 65mph I’m at 2200 RPMs. Is this normal?

    My transmission to my avalanche 07 avalanche 4 wheel drive keeps throwing all the fluid what could it be

      Is the fluid leaking out of the transmission vent?

    I lost gear 3&4 in my 07Avalanch, so I had transmission rebuilt. Truck drove fine for 2 months then lost 4th again and then it wouldn't come out of 1st. Transmission shop say they can find anything wrong with the transmission. had engine check and its good..... What could it be?

      It's really hard to say without driving the vehicle, looking at scan data, checking oil pressures, etc.
      There are a number of things that can cause no 4th gear. And same goes for stuck in 1st gear.
      This will probably sound crazy, but something as seemingly irrelevant as the engine temp, can cause no 4th gear. But, I understand you had the engine checked out, and all is good there. Could be a sticking 3-4 shift valve, an issue with the 2-4 Servo, AFL Valve, etc.
      Stuck in 1st gear can be caused by a sticking shift valve, the PCM not receiving a signal from the VSS (speedo), etc.
      Once again, it's hard to say...

    Amigo a mi avalanche no agarra para adelante y tampoco agarra la tercera. Solo la segunda y la primera y la reversa..que podría ser espero me responda amigo

    Hello, I need help diagnosing or fixing this issue with my truck. It stalls above second gear and the speedometer flickers a lot, could be going between 30-80 km/h. Its a 2006 Chevy Avalanche. The check engine light is on with error code P0449. I've taken it to a dozen mechanics and none of them have been able to find/solve this issue. I had the transmission replaced in 2018 and didnt experience this issue before. one of the mechanics i talked to said the transmission had shattered teeth, making it stall in higher gears. i didnt have any money to fix it and it sat for a year, not driving. i took it out for a drive and it was driving fine for about 500km on a highway before the issue resurfaced. i figure if the teeth were shattered it would be a constant issue?
    Basically when the truck tries to shift into 3rd gear or above there is an 80% chance it will stall, the engine RPM will skyrocket but the vehicle will slow/stop until returning to second or first gear.
    I would really appreciate any help i can get, thanks!

      I agree...I, too, would think it would be a constant issue (teeth).
      What you are describing sounds like a failing 3-4 Clutch.

      After a lot of digging I also came to the same conclusion. The transmission was a refurbished one and i assume had the same issue before it was refurbished. from what i was able to find its due to the seal going into the 3-4 clutch pack expanding and shrinking from heat from transmission fluid and then that fluid leaking into the clutch pack wearing it down and causing it to slip. When it was refurbished I think they just replaced the clutch pack and not the seal that damaged them. This would explain to me why it worked very briefly and why the mechanic shop could not find the issue with my truck.
      I'm definitely going to follow your main channel since i plan on doing some work on it in the near future to get it fully functional and advice would be fantastic!

      That is one of the ways the 3-4 Clutch can fail (shrinking piston seal). I've seen it before (someone replacing the burnt up clutches, without replacing the piston seals...or anything else).

      @@4l60E-Official i plan on getting it fixed in the next couple months, I will leave an update on how it goes. hopefully this is the issue, since finding out it isnt might be a nightmare to figure out the real problem. never hurts to reinforce the transmission though!
