I bought a super cheap repo Aston Martin V8 Vantage with a manual transmission from an auto auction, and on the way home I stopped at Tavarish's workshop to get his take on whether I just got the best deal in the world or a huge mess on my hands!

Freddie is a great UA-cam, he knows his Aston's. I have always loved the classy lines of Aston Martin. Tavarish usually makes questionable decisions but he picks some great cars and like you work on the cars himself👍
I feel like we are watching how one of those "car horder" guys began. Like that guy that has 5 acres of cars that he says none are for sale because they just need a couple of things but they are all just sitting there like a junk yard.

I worked for premier automotive group (Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Aston Martin) when it was owned by Ford. All of these brands except Volvo were a hodgepodge of Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Aston Martin parts. The whole concept of Premiere automotive group was cool but Jaguar was such a mess that Ford had to sell all of the brands to dig them out of losses from Jaguar.
It does not surprise me that you describe Tavarish as "generous," and "a man of his word," because it is obvious he has not forgotten where he came from, and what it took to get to where he is today.
Taking into consideration Aston Martin was once owned by Ford as was Volvo as well as Jaguar, I just wonder if Erik Di Somma was aware of that, hence the reason that there are a lot of common parts… some people should take a step back and think a little before criticising others, which is so easy to do.
More than that, they were the brands in Ford's Premiere Automotive Group. PAG was all about playing the mix and match to save money.

The dash cluster ect maybe volvo but the chassis, suspension and drive train were Aston designs . You know the bits that matter . Plus the Jag engine is very very strong .
I never said there won’t be sharing of parts. I replace FOMOCO parts also that are shared between all. Sam said it has an engine from a Jaguar and a cluster from a Volvo. Which were the statements with which I disagreed. I’ve had both and worked in both and I can tell you although the two cars resemble each other in outward appearance. the Aston is a far departure from the Jaguar. That’s all. Still love the channel and follow all the DIY guys. I take calls all the time from struggling techs (typically Ferrari F1 era) as my numbers are on multiple forums trying to help out when needed. The technology in many of these cars is obsolete and the curriculum is no longer being taught at the dealerships so knowledge will be the power that keeps these cars on the road. That’s why I’m passionate about them.

Take out the air suspension, aftermarket exhaust, and interior color mods and you have an awesome car!!!!!! It is a keeper!

Sam, those are forged Vossen LC-104 wheels. They're around $6,000 for a brand new set.

I drive a 2004 Volvo and the DIM is very similar, but in your last video, when you were cranking the Aston and had the door open, that key in door open chime is IDENTICAL to my Volvo.
Yes, that early Vantage key fob is Volvo. If you peel off the aston embossed leather there's a Volvo logo under. By 2009 (I think) they switched to the glass ECU key
The V8 can be sourced back to the Contour/Mondeo SVT/ST 24/200 😁
Good for 205BHP in its V6 guise for the 200/SVT.
And to be even more nerdy, the original V6 was also used in the Noble M12, and the 3ltr version seen in the Mondeo ST220 ended up taking over.
Just shows how a humble V6 in a euro sales repmobile went on to power some mighty fine cars!
I had a modeo 6 and it was better than my (80's) 528, any volvo it was a fast, comfortable rocketship, the best car for overtaking lorries on main rd I've ever had, I put 30,000 miles on it before I bothered changing the oil. Tyres tho, it liked tyres....
@@jamesblonde2271 yeah, I've had the 1.8 zetec and the turbo diesel MK2 models, and my ex had an ST200 hatch, which we put the limited edition leather recaros in.
They're comfy cars and so easy to get on with, though terrible for rust on the floor and arches!
I really wished I bought the st200 estate when I had the chance a few years back, but went with the Focus ST170 Estate instead (To my American friends, imagine the focus SVT but in wagon form 😁). Both ultra rare now as rust has killed them off and few were built.

I was just reading the comments here. why are people so concerned about whether or not he gets a lift, Sam has many optyions I am sure. I don't know to many people that take the risks he takes on these cars I myself could not do what he does hats off to him and if he wants a lift he will get one when he feels it is the right choice at the right time
Hi lads, I'm glad you took your mates car for a run to see a real world look at one driving & I have to say I'm pretty dissapointed at the sound of the throttle response of such an expensive car. My comparison is of my old 1978 mildly worked FORD Cortina with a 250 X flow ironhead (yes it's a girls car but it gave many a man a very big scare being a sleeper) in it could literately lift it's left front wheel off the ground in an instant reaction to full throttle if you stomped it's throttle but all computer controlled cars even the mega expensive ones like this it seems still sound like Fluffy Pillows with their throttle response ( off the planet emission control) & I know what causes this too ( no throttle pump). Although after half an hour of your foot being on the floor and your car wakes up and actually gets moving it sounds quite good. Anyway it was good to see a high end car in the real world being driven to confirm OLD SCHOOL is still the BEST. Interesting vid by the way.

Get the rear in the air, check if the gear shift is actually changing gears by rotation of both wheels.
I couldn't hear any movement when depressing clutch, start with fluid, simple first

That ride in Freddy's Aston!!! Wow!! I don't care if it's not the quickest nor fastest exotic. Living in Los Angeles, if I had one, It would be my weekend toy for drives to Santa Barbara, to cars & coffee meets and to Thursday Night Thunder at Irwindale.

Btw just stumbled upon your Channel today. I enjoy it. I like the fact that you go through the mechanical details and speak to the DIY aspects. It'll be interesting to see what the F250 reveals. It would be cool to see many of the codes disappear once you deal w/ the fuse panels/relays.

Love the intro. I started buying Jags and Land Rovers because of the Ford mechanicals in the 2000s. I did S-type R, then XJR and then XKR. My wife had two LR3s. We now have a Range Rover Sport with the Ford Diesel engine which they in turn sourced from Peugeot. And I did it because I knew they’d all be easier to run as a result. For example. I source Ford service parts for my wife’s Range Rover here in Aussie. So good on you for calling out that “expert”. I am sure there is some boring channel out there for our resident asshole to follow and enjoy.

Just because a wheel is 1-piece does not mean it is cast. Forged mono-block wheels are a thing, I have a set of CCW. Custom forged wheels are not cheap by any means.
I like this channel because Sam has fun while doing his own thing. Then you have Goonzquad that are pretty awesome and have some very nice epic builds as well as vtuned. All these guys have great personalities and they’re a breath of fresh air.

Do a partial restore to factory. Get rid of those wheels and the air suspension.

New Trans/toss the air shocks/black anodize the Rams then you have a keeper.... And that interior could be made less gaudy with some simple cover ups and repairs. There is something magical about those Aston's. It's a Bond Car you can own. Great episode.
