INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES : GREAT to see Sam letting us see this suppliers' businesses and how things are actually made, and the people who make them. I hope this gives these businesses a big sales boost. More of this please !
While not in the USA (I'm an Aussie) I've had local firms produce speciality coolers for me (most recently a re-core of my 1992 GTiR Intercooler.) The quality is so high, as the fabricators take great pride in their work. So you get a great part, at an honest price and support local business. Wins all around.
That's quite an old Ford key. I've had them from 1991 (Escort), 1998 (Mondeo Mk 2) up to 2003 (Mondeo Mk 3) if I remember correctly. If you get a replacement barrel, *they come "handed"*. If you put the wrong side in, you'll find that anyone will be able to unlock your door. A Ford key of that era will lock any door, but only unlock its own. If you get them on the wrong way round, any key will unlock it, but only yours will lock it.
Yup, also on the AU Ford Falcon in Australia/New Zealand. Super common key here still because so many Falcons were sold & there are still heaps of them on the road - every shopping mall key cutting kiosk here in NZ can cut one of these, and any auto locksmith will be able to replace the barrel. I guess in the USA they probably never got these models though.
That is a ford group key from 2000 era vehicles and you may find that if you can get a key code a good automotive locksmith can cut a key or code a new cylinder using a ford one instead of the Aston martin one. Jaguar from that era will have something similar enough to do the job too.
Specifically it's a Force tibbe key. it should be possible to order an identically keyed replacement although as already stated you need to make sure to order the right one as they are handed. You may need to send a key or one of your locks to the locksmith so they can decode the lack to get the correct coding.
Hi Sam. I am so glad you mentioned the welder who worked on the oil cooler. I actually said “wow” out loud when I had seen the weld when the arc had stopped. Amazing welds.
Sam you knocked this build out of the park. Absolutely love it when you use local domestic ingenuity instead of only relying on dealer parts only. You give hope to us poor petrol heads 🙏🏽
Your key is called a TIBBE key from ford, you can make a Jaguar barrel work with this key, it will need to be dismantled and have the correct discs installed for your existing key. I would suguest taking the drivers side lock out and comparing to a Jaguar unit of a similar age car So the answer is yes you can modify an lock barrel to fit your car
Ah, possibly the worst lock Ford ever used. A lock mechanism so often replaced that in the generation of Fiestas that first used the subsequent lock type they were designed so that you could replace the lock barrel simply by opening the door and removing a single bolt. That's instead of removing the entire contents of the door while leaving the glass taped to the top of the doorframe, like the previous generation.
Wow, those welds looked pristine! Glad to hear you're taking some of the comments seriously, Bendpak has smaller lifts and quick jacks which could presumably suit your needs.
I dont know why but every episode gets watched by me with interest here... Great stuff being able to see work of other professionals who source your parts - like with this oil cooler. Like how you handle the comments regarding the lift and safety when you are working - all in all, learning a lot from you man. Keep it up - you are doing great!
this channel and Auto Auction Rebuilds are the only salvage/rebuilding channels that have ACTUALLY kept an emphasis on DIY over the years. I respect that.
Good choice of vendors for the cooler. Bell made me a stock replacement intercooler for my 1988 supercharged MR2. It was a thing of beauty. Perfect welds and flowed much better than stock.
Hey Sam I'm so glad to see you finally considering a lift. I was like you for a long time and worked off jack stand and jacks, after a few close calls I learned that even if we think it's safe it's still a risk. I'm also glad to see you doing this build being budget minded and I've actually been enjoying this series. Thanks for doing what you do and continuing to bring us some great content.

I have to say this is really turning into my favorite series on youtube right now, I love how youre actually wrenching and not just trowing money at it. Great shit!
Also Sam, have you considered a set of Quickjacks? More lift than you have and much safer than your current setup as long as you just have some level ground. Won't take up much space either 🙂
Great show guys. The drive shaft alignment trick is awesome. I was a Honda service manager for 17 years. I always required my technicians to bump test cars on the lift ( while the cars were still close to the floor) before lifting. I now have my own lift and bump test before raising any vehicle.
Loving your videos! I like the theme of your videos & the fact that you find and shout out small business that do awesome work. most wouldn’t have known. Keep up the awesome videos! 😎 you’re always helping others find quality & affordable alternatives 🤙🏼
Sam, I think I suggested this before when you were working on a car in the grass. I learned it from one of Penske mechanics from the early days. He was in the German army during WW II. He was assigned to an infantry. Anyway instead of using jack stands he cut 6x6 pressure treated lumber. He'd have a bunch and use the stacked, single whatever worked best for the situation. They always worked on whatever the terrain is. Even if it's supplementing the stands for added safety. Lumber is cheaper now.. thank you Fritz for the advice I still use today. Btw his son worked for the Hillsborough epa for years. 😁
What about QuickJacks? They seem to be best for home use and much more secure. Granted a lift would be great, but lets face it, one of your cars is already on the lift and you still need to lift a second one.
Ya, I was thinking the same, there's one that Tilts as well. I saw an 'ad' on f.u.(face)book, for one, for only $69! lol which lead me to find legit info on them. I'm sure Sam has some kinda sponsorship deal knocking his door down when he reveal his 'Lift' in an upcoming video.
Sam, good video, e.g. the bleeder replacement was a really good idea. And I tip my hat to Bell Intercoolers and Dino, that oil cooler manufacturing was spot on and true craftmanship. Great! 👍
Can't wait for the next video! I'm guessing you are getting the key for the passenger side from the original owner. It was really nice of Alex to drop by and help you with jiggling your shaft in place.

Its cool to see all this companies doing amazing after market stuff with amazing quality. Ohh those welds :). That's why we need to fight for the right to repair, so this great companies can keep existing and we can keep repairing our stuff
Ya know, with this type of installation you already have the perfect clutch alignment tool--the driveshaft itself! All you need to do is feed it through the pressure plate and spline the clutch plate on it, and ensure you have another jack stand to support the rear of the driveshaft parallel to the right angle of the flywheel, and feed the front spigot into the flywheel bearing. Yes, you will need a second pair of hands to do this, but it should work pretty well if done properly. If the driveshaft pulls out of the crank bearing easily once the pressure plate is bolted up, then it should go in easily through the torque tube.
I would have bought the correct tool, then sold it in eBay to get some of my money back. However, i would have never done a job like this in the first place, so the point is moot.
The Lock Picking Lawyer. If no one gives you the information you need, this guy is amazing with his knowledge of locks, taking them apart and picking them. If anyone one on UA-cam would know, He's your guy.
It's a Ford Tibbe key. Ford has been using this design for decades. A good locksmith can code your key to a lock barrel. Edit: I had a 1997 Ford Mondeo, with the same style key.
Clutch bleeding trick for a make do pressure bleeder. A hand held oil pump can with the pump handle, some plastic tubing attached and a bic lighter to soften the small end to fit the bleed nipple tighter and pump fluid up by hand. Clutch bled. For a 20 year old replacement part sitting on a shelf for 20 years and has shrunken seals use a clutch fluid with a seal sweller built into it. Amazon has some special fluid for this purpose of swelling clutch seals.
Really enjoying this Sam, and it's great to see you are getting help and education from other "Toobers", he is "Legit", definitely a skilled mechanic you can learn a lot from...
Just get yourself a proper set of axel stands that are not the ratchet type. The rocking will make them collapse but with old school ones that you pull up and put the locking pin in the tube are much much safer.
@@DonovanBanks good! They are not fool proof so always double check you have them level and all points are making good contact and then do the wobble/bump check. Stay safe buddy
Yep. Maybe LockpickingLawyer can recode a barrel to Sam's key. He is a brilliant lock picker so I don't see why. Even Bosnian Bill from Lock Lab could do it.
Yet another common sense solution to the outrageous prices that some car makers charge for replacement parts. I'll bet that oil cooler will work better than the factory one; at half the price.
Unfortunately, the large 1/2" gaps in the fins pack at the ends that resulted from using too short a core will have an impact on performance. How much depends on the air flow/scoop in the front. It could be down 10% or more from what it could have been. In general these types of coolers are air side limited so performance may be less than stock.
It's shameful for Aston Martin, and other exotic manufacturers, that you can purchase bespoke handmade replacements for half price of their idiot retail gouge.
Sam I love the concept of what you’re doing in this series because it further opens up the possibility of ordinary enthusiasts taking on their dream car. Well done to you buddy 👍

In few months or no time people will definitely be kicking themselves in regret for missing the opportunity to buy or invest in cryptocurrency. Can my fellow investor's say HELLO.

1btc is currently about $33,000,1btc was 18,000usd as at 2months ago now it's has surged to 33,000usd and It's definitely going to hit $35k by friday. I bought mine when it was 7k. Earlier this year. Since then I've been having my BTC traded in the forex market by a trading company.
I'm not remotely an expert and probably have no idea what I'm talking about but that prop shaft bearing seemed to slide it way too easy. Surely the outside of the race needs to grip into the casing so it doesn't spin against the case?
I'd recommend Esco Jack stands - way more sturdy then traditional ratcheting stands. Pin style and large flat tops for various frame designs. Worth the money!
If you don't have room for a twin post, consider a quick jack lift system. Still on your back, but faster for the amount of work you do. What's that trans jack you used? I like it.
As a former mechanic may I suggest you invest in a four post vehicle hoist. The cumulative saving in manhours will pay for itself in no time. No more scrabbling around the floor risking life and limb.
Great video. This is a Ford Mondeo clutch release bearing. The bleader assembly is also from the same car the key for the doors is also Ford from the 1990 as it links with the standard Ford Pats system.

How much does 1btc cost in USD and how much capital can I start with?
Crescent wrench Aston repair????
This is exactly what I expect.
Don't ever disappoint me man.
If you don't have room for a twin post, consider a quick jack lift system. Still on your back, but faster for the amount of work you do. What's that trans jack you used? I like it.
The welds on the cooler looks insane
Thank You 🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
As a former mechanic may I suggest you invest in a four post vehicle hoist. The cumulative saving in manhours will pay for itself in no time. No more scrabbling around the floor risking life and limb.
I like that you give a shout out to companies that come to your rescue. I have a classic car and will be giving the radiator guy a call.
Great video. This is a Ford Mondeo clutch release bearing. The bleader assembly is also from the same car the key for the doors is also Ford from the 1990 as it links with the standard Ford Pats system.
