It's the world's greatest heavy metal instrumental about a psychic ancient mythical sea monster...😅

This album came out in '86 and absolutely changed the game for metal, I can literally recommend EVERYTHING from this album to listen to. Battery, Disposable Heroes and Orion are all wonderful picks.

This song came out in 1986. I was fresh out of my mom's house and on my own (with roommates). Don't be afraid to stop the song and talk or rewind if needed to catch the lyrics. We're here to see your reaction, we can play the song whenever. Plus, I'm told it's helps a to not get hit with copyright strikes if you pause it at least a little. You did just fine, don't let the hater in the comments get you. Everybody starts somewhere.

Metallica always puts great thought and meaning to their songs…Master Of Puppets referring to how drugs control people’s lives in a very subtle yet devastating way…I didn’t realize that at first, but when I read the lyrics and it mentioned “chop your breakfast on a mirror”…lightbulb moment for me…✌️

If i might suggest, you may want to pay more attention to the lyrics and meaning of the song. It's not always easy to figure out in one go, but this song is fairly blunt in its meaning. You heard part of the power in just the instruments, but when you pay attention to the words as well this song is even more of a "oh sh$^"

@@drcruelty I was being serious. Your post was just right. Critical, but constructive. Encouraging, without condescension.
I was remarking about this is response to someone else's post that simply criticized the reaction and then dismissed the channel entirely. Nothing particularly helpful about that!

Since you asked, here's the band:
James Hetfield - Vocals and rhythm guitar
Kirk Hammett - Lead guitar (aka the shreddy solos)
    Lars Ulrich - drums
    Cliff Burton - bass
Cliff died in a bus accident after this album, later albums have different bassists.
As others have mentioned, once you recover from getting blown away by the playing, this song's got some good bars too.

    • @timl8302

They have a bass player issue. Robert Trujillo quit a while back. Not too sure who is the bassist now.

I’ve been a die hard Metallica fan since 1985! I still listen to them daily going to work! There is no bad song on this album! It’s long been considered the best metal album ever made. It’s so good it was the first metal album placed in the library of congress for its cultural significance!

you should listen to sanitarium, fade to black, one and battery. they are all good songs, also if you ever want to hear someone who use to be in metallica, listen to a band called megadeth.

Their songs have deep meanings, like someone said its hard to get the lyrics in the beginning, I might recommend lyric video's One of my favorite songs is one that the meaning was so unexpected ( a story from the Bible) they played it live in Moscow Russia in 1991 the name of the song is Creeping Death, nothing like seeing/hearing 1.6 million people singing along to the part "Die, Die, Die!!!

Welcome to metal! My favorite Metallica song is Am I Evil? It’s originally by Diamond head and Metallica covered it. The whole Master Of Puppets album is badass. Notice the title- Master Of Puppets, the album has many songs that describe one entity or another having power over individuals. This song you listened to is about drugs being a master over you. Disposable Heroes is about the military sending young men to die in war, Leper Messiah is about greedy televangelist preachers draining people of money for false promises, Welcome Home Sanitarium is about the mental hospital causing more harm than good. It’s a fantastic album and it came out in 1986, Metallica’s 3rd album.

Welcome to the club! This is one of the best metal albums of all time! Some other bangers are Fade to Black, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), & One.
For some other heavy favorites: Megadeth - Holy Wars, Pantera - Domination & Five Minutes Alone, Dream Theater- Under a Glass Moon (EPIC GUITAR SOLO!). For some current bands, check out Sleep Token - Chokehold & The Summoning, and Bleed From Within - The End of All We Know.

The game the song reminds you of is "DOOM". Specifically the very first level. That game used a lot of popular heavy metal riffs ( illegally ) lol. But if you're a metal fan you recognize every single one 😉

Metallica has a habit of doing just instrumental songs. From this album you should check out "Orion". It is fully instrumental no lyrics at all. It is a masterpiece and I'm quite sure you'd enjoy it. Also if you are into the guitars I would suggest checking out Guns'n'Roses and "Paradise City", the best guitar pron around with the way Slash plays that thing. You could almost say he is doing vocals, there is so much emotion in the guitars and the solos...

Their first five albums are great, black was mediocre, and the rest of their career has sucked. I started listening to them in the early 80s, but after and justice for all dropped, they didn’t have anything that was great come out again.

I think when I bought my first heavy-metal album, iron maiden in 1983 I don’t think I was paying too much to the words either because the instrumentals are just so awesome.
