Metallica, and metal for that matter, never shied away from the tougher topics like drug use, war, famine, hunger, etc. Real issues the World was facing. And they delivered it in the way that fed those who love metal. When so many artist at the time were just wanting you to party and have a good time, metal was like HEY, there are issues out here we need to face. That is why if you have a full conversation with a metal head, most of the time you are going to be surprised at how aware we were of the issues at the time and how our perspective was a very humanitarian viewpoint when everyone else just saw us as angry and violent. There were those for sure who just wanted to destroy things but in general some of the most intelligent and aware people were metal heads.

In fact if you want to hear one of the most haunting songs about child abuse, listen to In Harm's Way by Metal Church. You'll never be the same again.

As a life long metalhead I agree. As a metal guitarist you play what you play. That applies to any genre. Sometimes it fits the times.

Love it! Please do Sanitarium off the same album - an absolute anthem. Great reactions.

It was inspired by the movie One Flew over the cuckoo's nest....

Thanks for these Metallica reactions! Nice to see you enjoying and experiencing their music. They are very skillful and versatile band, having nice transitions and changes in their songs, as you already noticed. It's good to do some nice mix of studio and live shows. I could give few recommendations to go for:
    - Creeping Death, definitely live from Moscow 1991. Legendary concert from Russia, with over 1 million people in the audience. Excellent heavy metal song with nice solo. Nearly unmatched energy of the band and the show.
    - Battery, live from Seattle 1989. One of their fastest songs, example of their trash style when they were still young.
    - Fade to Black. Their first power ballad from second album. Beautiful, sad, but heavy. Guitar solo in the end is voted very high on many all time solos lists. It's best heard on studio version, as it's bit cut on live shows, but good live is for example 2018 Lincoln version.
    - The Day that Never Comes, live for example from Quebec Magnetic show. Again song, which shows their skill to make variety of styles in one song.
    - No Leaf Clover Live from S&M2. They made concerts together with symphony orhcestra. Very nice music experience, especially this songs shows how well they rock even with massive orchestra. They made same show over two decades ago, but I recommend to pick this S&M2-version, recorded few years ago.
    - Orion. Pure instrumental, which is mostly written by their early basist Cliff Burton, who had some classical training, and had a huge influence on their musical side. Unfortunately he died on tour bus accident too early, but is still concidered one of the best metal basists.
    - One. Classic reaction song in youtube. Also has good changes and transitions of different types of feelings, and tells very tragic story. Has many good live shows, for example Ireland 2019 is a good recent choice. There's also official music video with movie as background, but don't let it lose your focus on actual music if you watch it.
    - Ride the Lighthing, quite recent example of their energy fomr Canada 2023. Song from their earlier career, but good example how they are still rocking 40 years later.
And lot more. I hope you enjoy your Metallica journey!
