    In episode #6, We don't care too much about realism but just want some good ol' highway interchange spaghetti bolognese. We convert the big 3-way Interstate interchange into a 4-way one with a web of off and on ramps, allowing easy access to Downtown Crescent and it's surrounding inner-city suburbs , industrial areas and districts. We finish it up with a small neighbourhood. Hope you enjoy!

    The American Dream follows the city of Crescent, a big, sprawling, segregated and troubled city located along the Atlantic shore of the state of Georgia, USA - south of Savannah, GA, and north of Jacksonville, FL. The series depicts a city desperate for inner-city revitalization, crime reduction, urban investments & infrastructure upgrades. Loss of industry, manufacturing jobs and the subsequent white flight, as well as a race riot, took a heavy toll on much of the urban core of Crescent.
    The Crescent City Council will be the main catalyst for change, and consists of all those of you willing to take part in the coming votes and thereby help shape the city and it's prospects.

    I know my continuous desire to combine two 1-lane ramps into one 1-lane ramp is very dangerous, but eh, there's so many ways to die in Crescent ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      Infrastructurist I feel you've misunderstood the American highway system, you cannot just use simple math to decide the number of lanes, 1+1 is not just 2, it is 1+1=3+way to many HOV lanes+ a reuined historical neighbourhood downtown.
      This is the correct fomula.

      Otavio Da Cruz Siviero,
      Have you seen old inner city suburbs in America? This kind thing only exists in the United States. This series is a depiction on how suburban sprawl has damaged American cities that with along with deindustrialization of these cities has only made matters worse with even more run down neighborhoods and empty block where houses once stood.

    I think the Miyagi Motors buildings would be a great "old school" declining heavy industry for this town. In my area, locomotive repair and construction was the reason for the town. It used to employ 15000 ppl, but only 1300 now.

    Don’t know how much this applies, as I live in the Twin Cities, which for the most part don’t have much decay. However, in between Minneapolis and St. Paul, along Summit and Marshal avanues there’s really nice late 1800s and modern renovated victorians. I’d expect most large cities to have these types of neighborhoods, old, large houses close to downtown.

    • @awildfilingcabinet6239
      @awildfilingcabinet6239 6 років тому

      That would be nice. Although the U of M would be a little new and big for the style. One of the smaller older colleges like St. Kates or Macalester would fit Crescent better. I really want to see someone make a midwestern city. I haven’t seen anyone make one and it would be quite unique as most cities have a large port. We just have our rivers.

    I thought this was a reupload when I saw the notification- I'm glad it's not. The new interchange spaghetti looks great. I can't get my head around all the ramps when I try to do it myself. One suggestion- add a few more ruined buildings or some foundations in the empty suburbs. It shows there was stuff there, and the stages of the decay.

    Dear Crescent City Council,
    My name is Ronald J. Fogerty, president of the Crescent Railroad Historical Society (CRHS). We have been located in the old trackside warehouse on the west side of town for five years, and are seeking to relocate to a new location close to the (future) railyard in eastside.
    Reason why: we are currently at near-full capacity of our current sidings, as our rolling stock and equipment collection is growing. We desperately need a new location to help our collection grow, which includes a steam locomotive that was based here in Crescent back in the 1950's.
    We would love to further educate future generations of our city's citizens on the rich railroad history, that helped the growth of our beloved city throughout the last 100 years, and proudly display that steam locomotive, Kendrick and Crescent RR #458, as our centerpiece of the new museum, as it was built in 1908, and desperately needs a heavy cosmetic restoration, with help from funding by citizens.

    I was checking Google earth around Atlanta. I have never looked around Georgia much. It is so weird how all the small municipalities/cities/town/etc have circular boundaries, but the larger ones break out of it, like Griffin and Hampton. North and South Carolina have the same thing. Aside from that unique feature, it is so sprawly. Well, most states are like that. It's so weird when compared to Canada.

    and a couple things I want to say about american highways is that
    1 there would usually be one or two extra lanes on the highway for ramps exiting the highway as well for going in to a highway. Those extra lanes would usually last for only one or 2 miles I think.
    2 there would also usually be 4 lanes (not including HOV lanes)
    3 from the area i live in there is a lot of HOV lanes (HOV lanes only allow 2 or more people in the vehicle and can be blocked form entering the lane)
    This is just what i know from my time living in america

    New here, new to cities. Are the mods you are using (the roads and the line mods, most importantly) actually funtional, or mostly aesthetic? Like, where you put lines on to roads that were blank, did they institute new lane rules for the AI, or were they gonna go where they go regardless?

    • @phillyzfynest7
      @phillyzfynest7 6 років тому

      This is larger than Kendrick, I think the city will have to sprawl more before he plans the public transit system, not all American cities have horrible public transit. MARTA in Atlanta has a pretty good transit system. As well as cities in the NE like Philly (where I am from, SEPTA), the state of New Jersey (New Jersey Transit), NYC (NYCMTA), Boston (MBTA), Baltimore (MTA Maryland) and DC (WMATA) are damn good transit systems. Not including the METRA system of Chicago (CTA, Pace and the METRA commuter rail system, which all transit is under the METRA umbrella). It's the medium sized American cities that have a public transit problem, I.E. buses only, with horrible frequencies.

    I have all the mods and pretty good at using them but I just am not good at designing interchanges quite like this yet. I can do basic cloverleaf, T, and trumpet but for some reason the more improvised spaghetti look I just haven't mastered. Do you have any videos where you go over your thought process and how you approach these?
    Also, our cities are dying because we keep allowing the government to steal our money and give it to corporate interests. End taxation, end urban decay. Poor people would get to keep a lot more of their money, and services would be privatized so we'd only have to pay for what we actually need and use. We didn't always have taxes in the US, yet we still had roads, rail roads, schools, and etc. Let's try that system minus the (slavery and racism) again, eh?

    Hello Infrasturist, I really love your work and I’m always looking forward to next episode. But there are two things that in my opinion could be better. I don’t understand why you are putting road wear marks in parking lot since they are not as heavily used as roads and simply it’s unsightful and unnatural. And two, I think that your tree foliage looks unnatural as well so try to place them more wisely.

    • @Infrastructurist
      @Infrastructurist  6 років тому +5

      Glad you like it! thanks for the feedback. As for parking lots, many of them are not purpose built parking lots but rather makeshift parking lots occupying what was once the concrete base of a commercial or residential building before urban decay really hit the city during the 1960's and onwards. I usually add less wear to the parking lot roads network as they represent purpose built parking, often accompanying an office park or a public building etc. Could you specify what you mean for the tree foliage? I have tried picking trees that are features in this region, and am inspired by Atlanta's tree density :-)

      For example the trees you planted around the pond in previous episode. You always picked one kind of tree and placed them equally all around the pond.

      Look at the interchanges of Atlanta, LA, Kansas City, San Diego, Chicago, the Twin Cities or Detroit for examples.

      Dennel Wright Mhm he definitely based that interchange on Atlanta’s Spaghetti Junction.
