Bro came out of nowhere and cooked the finest meal I've had in years. Amazing video and very insightful.
RIGHT?? 😂😂
20:35 "So, nice clean building shapes some look good, some look a little sus" 😭😭
very easily a favorite channel, no fluff or random yapping, straight to the point about technicals in a chill manner, kudos
Thank you that's exactly what I was going for I really appreciate you saying that
I have to respect a fellow robot-girl enjoyer
Battle Angel Alita hits some of us different
How has he been hiding this amazing work all this time
....ninja skills?
Decided to give the video a try on a whim and HOLY COW. I had always struggled with the shape of arms, and you just casually dropped that 1/3 tip like it was nothing. I had never heard that before, and I think that was exactly what I needed!
I actually have a whole video basically on just that it's the one called limb shaping with shortstacks. If you do get a chance to look it over I'd be interested to hear what you think
Total respect for the joke at 20:33
Total respect for watching all the way through.
your style is so clean and everything is so vibrant , and the process is literally step-by-step, thank you, this has helped me a tremendous amount, I'm looking forward to more videos for sure!
Im stoked you like it, and i'm grateful its useful to you, i appreciate you sharing that it's really nice of you
Wow, I love the way you stylize the anatomy! Especially simplifying the ribcage into an oval instead of a box, that tip was really helpful! 😊
Excellent, I'm really glad it's given you some value
Just stumbled upon your channel and I'm instantly a fan. Your style is clean and beautiful, and judging by the little slideshow of your work at the beginning of the video, I do believe I've found one kindred spirit of a cultured gentleman. I eagerly await all you choose to share.
thank you, also *sips tea* yes, cultured indeeeed
Bruh, how is all of this free?? Also, that lineart confidence, like wow 😆
Ha ha, it's all brush smoothing baby.
Your videos gave me the motivation to get back into the art for my game. Im off to draw more monster girls
That is awesome to hear, that sounds really cool if you do want to share that we have a discord and I'd personally love to see it!
Fantastic pointers. Big thanks for all the hard work you put in your lectures.
Thank you very much for saying so I really appreciate it
Well, I found a gem.
L that's heartening to hear, thanks
Awesome video. I love the way you break things down. Your teaching experience really shows. I don't even draw and I still watched most of it since it's so engaging.
One thing I'd like to see would be a little gallery at the end or maybe even at the end of stages, showing the before and after side by side , like sketch plus finished ink, or before and after shading and post processing.
thats a good idea, like a process summary of the steps. thanks for the good idea
Such a high quality video, I learned a lot from this; thank you so much for sharing!!
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Wow i love your sound , it make me can watch your video 2-3 time for learning your art and thank for many tip, i understand concept to color but i'm so confused about tool, thank you so much
thankyou, and yeah a lot of people have asked about tools, i only really use the default brushes so i go over what base ones i use here ua-cam.com/video/kgpi9l22ZsA/v-deo.html but i am planning to make a more in depth "digital art techniques" video in future so i hope that is something you'd be interested in
@@LinesSensei thanks a lot ❤❤
I love how you explain your process. Your art style is so cute 🥰
thats really nice of you to say, thank you
really love your stuff! I'll be sure to check your other tutorials too
thanks, i hope theyre helpful
oh my, you sir are a living legend. No youtuber has ever managed to teach me how to draw people. Yet you succeeded in doing so
That's a really nice of you to say, it's always cool to know you've been a positive influence on someone's artistic journey
Bro I started about two months ago on procreate trying to get lineart down along with the construction of the head and body really difficult
I see you and you are a beast your line art is sooo crisp and precise it really is amazing
P.s. says you are a teacher do you offer classes 😮
@@TheRobertR its awesome to hear you're starting out learning something new, and i hear ya the head and body can be really tricky to approach, I'm working on a couple videos on head and body construction right now, mainly targeting accessibility for newer illustrators so if you decide to stick around to see them I'd love it if you'd let me know what you think about how the content works for you.
as far as teaching, i have been, but presently I'm not, my plan is to start up some live small group tutoring through patreon, but that's a ways off. but any questions you have about anything in the videos feel free to reach out
@@LinesSensei You let me know when your patreon is up and I GOT YOU! My main question I have been trying to solve is understanding angles of the head and body and how to draw them in perspective. Perspective is easy to understand but hard to put into practice... Well atleast for me
thats great job on explaing every step i gonaa try this process , catch the sub
thank you that's really nice of you to do and say, if you do end up with work product you want to share I'd love to see it
i don't usually subscribe to artists on YT (or anyone for that matter haha), but definitely dropping a sub! The way you showed and walked through your work process just feels so much more genuine, and easier to understand than a lot of other YT artists' videos tend to be, so I will totally be back when I'm feeling stuck if you keep posting!
Also, not the "sus" comment at about 20:30 😭😂
wow I really appreciate that, I'm aiming for one a week, so it'll be a bit to get going but hopefully i'll keep it coming
Thank you so much for talking through your process, going straight for another 🎉
That's great to hear, thank you for saying so
I had no trouble with the sketch and lineart phases. BUT the mixing layers, effects and weird overlay things got me a little lost.
Would be GREAT to have a tutorial series about Clip Art Studio in itself.
Amazing first video and already subscribed.
Trying to go through all the videos! So good! Trying figure the dark shadow process and end part but sneak peek at the other video explaining it! Thank you ! I got a lot of homework to do!
Awesome! Thank you!
Finally an artist that work the layes as i do, nice tutorial dude and amazing artwork, suscribed.
thanks i really appreciate it
This video is fantastic, can't wait for more!!
Thanks, I'm sorry the schedule is gunna be a little slow till I've got my production groove down
super impressed with how thorough ur first tutorial is. Can't wait to see what other awesome videos you'll post on ur channel 👏👏
Thanks man that means a lot coming from a fancy artist like yourself
I love it ! Your art looks so much like Xaxaxa's art style ! He's one of my favorite artists out there. I am so glad UA-cam recommended your chanel ! I Enjoyed all about your videos from your tone of voice to your art and the way you teach !
Can't wait to see more !
That's a really lovely thing to say, I absolutely adore his work and I've just finished season four of wakfu!
I love how the beginning was so easy to follow, but then toward the end it started sounding like calculous.
Yeah you're not wrong, it did get a bit dense towards the end there that pacing is something I've been working on in the videos that follow
Finally a tutorial that i can understand! thank you so much for your work!
Thank you for watching it I'm glad you enjoyed it
Wonderful video!
awww thank you
awesome tut brother thanks ❤
thanks i'm glad you like it
This is fantastic, thank you! So many useful tips in such a short time... Time to very slowly go through all your videos and absorb everything useful for me bit by bit! I've watched two so far and they were both extremely helpful and well-presented. There's many excellent art videos on UA-cam, but I think yours might just end up being my favorites... A huge thank you!
Holy shit, Lines is starting a yt channel. So looking forward to your work. I love seeing your indepth feedback on the discord and i hope i can one day submit my own drawings for critique.
Personally id say you have a wonderful voice for commentary and i really appreciate guides that show the whole workflow/process instead of listing things to do.
I wish you good luck and fun on your new endeavour. Looking forward to see more :D
wow that's great of you to say, i really appreciate that.
as far as submitting your drawings, I'm on like a bunch of art discords so if you do submit some work odds are I'll see it and I'll do my best to say something helpful
This is super cool, I love the way you explain things
thanks I'm glad its helpful, and i appreciate you taking the time to say something nice to an internet rando, you have a great day
most informative art video I've seen
wow, high praise. I'll do my best to earn it, thank you !
Wow nice video now i know what i need to work on keep posting amazing videos like this💯💯💯👍👍👍
I'm really glad you're getting some value from it, it's great to hear it's something that's been useful to people
This has to be the best art process type of video I've seen, thank you for sharing this. :)
Now time to go draw 😎
thankyou, and if you do want to share that work we've got a discord now so there's other artist there you can put it past ( I also want to see it)
@@LinesSensei hell yeah, I’ll hop in. thank again ❤
That was really good I was able to follow along can’t wait to see more
thanks for saying so, thats great to hear.
I've had some feedback that this one was still a touch rushed so the next one will hopefully be at a less intense pace
Really great work Lines! I love your style, and that post-processing passes are like magic!
Comment for algorithm
reply for you, I really appreciate it, thank you
Smooth voice!
i swear it's all the mic, in real life i sound like a buss top derro I'm pretty sure
The among-us joke is making me going to watch the among-us parody video song after this.
Anyway~ Such amazing artwork as always~
This part just goes above my head though, cell shading has never been something that i have managed to be able to do with all my years drawing and painting, i just cannot fathom how to do it. I am trying to wrap my head around basic shading and shaping, but my mind over complicates simple styling, (doesn't help most of my shading is about 25 to 35 layers of shading per colored layer at the maximum and 10 to 15 layers are the minimum)
I am going to keep trying to figure it out and watch more of your videos to try and figure out why basic shading seems so wrong to my eyes on my own artwork.
so for me the way i approach cel shading, is i give primary importance to dropped and cast shadows, they're the most important elements of shading, after that i do large areas of shading based on the broad surface planes.
I am gonna give this Flats layer thing a try, having all the colors on one layer sounds so much easier to navigate than layers and layers and layers, on top of layers and layers, and god knows how many folders.
Came here from Mikeys discord, so nice to see you got your youtube started! Good luck!
Oh hey thank you! You know, you should join our discord as well if you've not already!
@@LinesSensei oh I didn't realize you had one, I will!
I think your video got me out of my artblock
wow, that's great to hear. thankyou for sharing that, its very cool of you
It would be amazing to see a real time video of you working. You could just stream to youtube, or use restream to stream simultaneously to twitch and youtube.
That's something I'd love to do in future. Presently I record my time lapses in pieces over a day or two just because I have other commitments that break up my day
One day when this starts earning enough that I can afford to give it primary focus that's one of the first things I want to do
I love how you narrate! Good job!
Thanks, people have been really nice about how I sound. I'm surprised
Was hitting abit of a Dead end in my Artworks these little tutorials your doin help IMMENSEILY as well as Trimming the Fat off of some Processes while Enhancing some others. I eager await more vids, you have a Subscriber and when Im not drowining in Medical Bills a Patron.
I'd love to see how you break down faces or hands from reference!
I'm glad you're interested, I have those videos already planned. Since those elements are a fundamental building block of character illustrations i guarantee they're going to be some of the first ones I do.
I love how in some pieces that got show in beginning the 'steps' that are shown was like
1. Line are
2. Color
3. Blessing from the Almighty Art God 😊
I promise I won't be telling anyone to draw the rest of any owls
It’s done! I replicate it to the best of my abilities! Your way of coloring is very cool although it takes less layers for flats, shade and glow which is very handy. It saves you time from tackling and shading each individual color by layer which takes lots of time! That was fun and now to learn more in the next video, thanks for the motivation sensei 😊
It's already been said, but it bears repeating: This is awesome! Even if this was all you ever posted, it's amazing. That said, I can't wait to see what else you get up to! Looking forward to learning from you, Sensei. XD
Thank you I really appreciate that and I hope the videos I have done and the ones I'm planning to do will be just as useful!
You just earned yourself a subscriber, definitely gonna check the rest of your tutorials.
Here before 50 total subscribers, this is definitely about to blow up huh?
That would be lovely.
@@LinesSensei welp 7k in 3 weeks that must be insane great job this video def deserved it!
By the way if anyone is annoyed by selection border moving like little ants in csp you can go to VIEW - Selection border and it wont show those lines but it will still be selected just no more moving border ants hope it helps :') oh and you can make it a shortcut too if you want
That's a really good tip! Thank you
Really loving your videos a lot. I really like how calming and relaxing it is while also being so engaging. The way you break down the process and explain everything you're doing is really nice and I'm really looking forward to future content. I usually draw as a hobby in my journals and on Krita and I feel really inspired by your content and you offered some really great direction that I might use to improve.
oh that's great to hear, thank you.
if you do have some work and want to share it we've got a discord now so there's a bunch of other artists to share it with if that's something you want to do, i know i'd like to see it
@@LinesSensei That sounds awesome! I'll definitely join and check it out! Thanks for letting me know!
I liked and subscribed before watching the video
I like to think myself of a rebel.
(love your art)
I appreciate your rebellious nature thank you!
Awesome video! so far you're becoming my fav Art UA-camr. Keep up the Amazing work! btw what brush do you use for drawing?
wow that's really nice of you to say, especially with how stacked UA-cam is with amazing artists.
as for my brush:
my main workhorse is just the default hard round brush with pressure controlling opacity, with smoothing off for sketching,
then with the same brush I put smoothing all the way up for inking,
and then turn the smoothing off again to for adding thickness to the lineart where the figure would be darkest.
for shading, again mostly the hard round brush, but i also use a free brush from the CSP store that's one of the million "SAi2 watercolour brush" clones, basically with light pressure it's a blender, and it doesn't drop paint UNTILL the pressure is past like 50% then it paints. so its like a 2 in 1 painter and blender depending how much pressure you use.
i also use the big soft airbrush for postprocessing effects like gentle glows if the effect doesn't need any precision with the gradients it drops
@@LinesSensei Thanks for the brush Info! and Also thanks again for the Awesome video really helps a lot! I just started drawing about a month now and your video really helped me with drawing bodies.
This video is clear and straight forward about the processes involved and is honestly the first time the process for rendering has clicked for me. Great work.
If I had any critiques, think it would be helpful if at the end you compared the individual steps one after the other in sequence. I'm thinking it would be mostly helpful to really grasp what you're doing during "post-processing" compared to what it was before. That may just be me though.
that's great feedback and you're not the only one to say it, so that's looking like something I'll really have to implement. Thank you that's really helpful
This guy made it 100% as pr0n artist I can tell 😆
It shows, still solid lessons and better skills
Could you offer a short explanation on how you adjusted the overall color/temperature of the illustration towards the end? I would appreciate it
I'll do one better, I made a whole video on my post processing steps that outlines a bunch of different things you can do to give the image that bit of Polish with colour and so forth towards the end so give it a look, if you get the time. I'd be interested to hear what you think
This is a great video! I can't wait for you to do some deep dives on certain techniques though, like linking layers to help shade the flats with a magic wand etc.
yeah it's super useful, and from watching a lot of speedpaints it looks like it isnt something as many people take advantage of as they possibly could
Love the video but could you go more into detail about how you did the shading on the flat color. If at all on procreate if you can but if you can’t that is alright
i don't have procreate myself but when i do content on shading I'll always make sure it's applicable to as many pieces of drawing software as possible
@@LinesSensei okay that sounds great
HELL YEAAAAAAAAAAH LEEEEEEEEEETSGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
yes, lets!
Hope you get to the subject of choosing colors and how to plan them out. I try to go for a hierarchy of saturation/ value depending on what I want to stand out like I saw in some books, but I'd really like know the thought process of an expert like you.
That is absolutely something I plan to get to once I got the fundamentals of figuring done will then start on some of the more specialist skills like this exact one, so stay tuned!
Years ago I binge watched TONS (and I do mean tons) of art tutorials while never drawing anything myself, I ended up losing interest and my drawing pen broke and my drawing tablet was in my home country so I just quit, it's been like 3 years and I finally got my stuff back yesterday so I'll mostly stick to these tutorials and see how things go
Could you make a video on how to use layers, tools, and brushes? Like a detailed video for beginners.
Yep, tools specific stuff is on the horizon. Stay tuned!
Your first 5 lines already look better than all my drawings...
Ho boy, i just started trying to learn digital, this video gave me soooo much to work with!
One thing im really struggling with is that my art style includes tons of dotwork, maybe i need to fiddle with resolution, but my dots really don't work as well compared with traditional art, they fail to do key textures ive used for years.
If you mean stippling or pointillism, back when I was at university I had to do that for an assignment so I made three custom digital brushes one that would make a consistent line of dots, one that had a consistent size and 0 stroke width so I wouldn't get little marks whenever I would draw dots I would just get the dots that wouldn't continue or smear up down left or right , and another that would essentially spray dots for me to add tone with. it did have the challenge that the tone generating dots brush would sometimes go over the doctor already which wouldn't happen if I was doing it manually but overall it did still save me a lot of time and some tendonitis.
NOOOO, THIS GUY ONLY HAS 3 VIDS!?!?!
I'm working on it, promise
Jo. I just found your channel. Love your art- and video style! 😆
I've just one small recommendation: Would it be possible to show as the howl screen so we would see not only the main window but also the popup windows from CSP? 🤔😄
Edit: Well, I just watched your next video, and you already did it, so never mind. 🤣😂
Getting bri'ish Bob Ross vibes. That's a compliment.
I mean, I'm Australian, but I definitely quite like the Bob Ross comparison, that feels great.
I really want to follow you on other socials but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Could you please give me a link or something. Great work!
i have an insta and a tiktok but they're just the reels that are already here and they're just to funnel back to YT, the only other thing i have is my gallery on newgrounds under the name lineslines
We need a tutorial about placement of highlights.
That's a really good idea I'll definitely add that one to the list
I checked through the comments, but I might have missed it, may I ask how the layers were set up for the shading process, I tried to follow along but it is a little bit difficult since the recording software does not show the contextual menus, so my Layer setup does not work the same. Any help would be highly appreciated. Love the videos as well, very informative and helpful :)
hey just found your channel, i like your content its to the point and actionable, are you willing to do mentoring and critiques as well as Q and A in the future? would love to get some help with my art and have alot of questions that need answering!
yes, I"m already active in a bunch of art discords in the critique space, and i'm working on getting a discord up and running that will be a space for people (myself included of course) to help each other progress and improve
Amazing video!!!
Do you have an online course or something? I love your drawing style and I would be interested in learning from someone like you.
so not YET, my plan is essentially to broadly cover everything from the basics of figures, lighting, shading etc. all the way through to tool specific stuff like post processing.
after that i think i would like to make a more condensed course to put up on like udemy or lynda or something, but for now I'll work on scaffolding each step here so it will be a course-like overall structure to the videos
Are your art tools on clip studio assest? I cant seem to get it like yours 😭😭 its beautiful
www.newgrounds.com/dump/download/c8687eae2e82ff7be839379138cad2aa
so I only have one brush that's an actual custom brush which is the one I've linked.
And even then it's just a mashup of two of the default brushes, the default hard round brush and the default blender. I just made a custom brush because pressing 2 letters on the keyboard to switch between the two was too much work for me
but I didn't use it in this video, for the rest of the brushes it's pretty much just the one brush which is the default hard edged round brush with pressure controlling opacity. I do switch the smoothing between the first step of thinking and then the second step where I add the line waiting , And for some of the effects later I use a big soft brush , but that's only very rarely and only for effects
Hello! At 15:42 you talk about making a copy of the flat layers on Brightness layer mode to make the shading look darker on darker areas. My question is if you know which layer mode would be the equivalent to those in Photoshop? Thank you for the tutorials
That is an excellent question, from memory I think that lend mode is called luminosity or brightness.
I also cover this a bit more clearly in my post-processing video (it's the one of the dark-skinned elf in the red bikini in the thumbnail)
Yeah I've a question. Could you shrare your "Sketcher" and "Lineart" brushes?
subscribed! Is this your only account or are you on other platforms?
I have an insta, a tick tock but I just post the same shorts there to funnel people back here for the full videos so this is essentially it.
Боже это прекрасно просто вау
thankyou that's nice of you to say
ok i must say i like your way of teaching BUT im stupid an new to the arts so when you said what you did while it happend in the speeddrawing i cant really follow on some points, like when u link your flats to do thing x y, or use your flats as an selection for your shading basically all the parts where you link something to something in the layer aspekt my brain just fries. maybe u can later do an indept part on the layer options and post processing for people that are a little slower in that part thx. or maybe you have already a video about that and its named something else and can say which one to watch ?
Some buildings are very sus.
make a playlist
That's a really good idea, I should really get on that
Any plans on making a Clip Studio Paint tutorial? I'm thinking of swapping from Krita nabbing the pro version of it B)
so i do plan to make some tool specific guides, but in the interim I'm going to do my best to make sure the info in my tutes is applicable to all the proper drawing softwares
@@LinesSensei DANG do you have any recommendations for tutorials then? Ive been on Krita just doing lineart and manually coloring it in cuz I have no idea how to set up my layers corrrectly for filling and such + I have no idea how to render or what brushes to use B)
I don't have any specific tutorials, though Naoki Saito has a full process tutorial which my process is loosely based off of. I had the link saved before his channel got wiped but I think he's reuploaded it since, sorry I don't have a link for it
But wouldn't robots lack the red/blood subsurface scattering?
they absolutely would yes, but I like how it looks. maybe they airbrush the robots to make them look more human when they're making the skin 🤷
@@LinesSensei fair enough airbrush would be a legit valid option 😌
You Australian by any chance mate? amazing tute btw
thank you and yes I am, incurably so they tell me
what size canvas and dpi do you have it set to?
A4 300 DPI
What program are you using
Clip studio paint
I think I've seen your art somewhere else... but going by another name, perhaps?
My previous name would just be lines but without sensei on the end.

Hello lines sensei not to long ago I subscribed to your channel and I’m very interested and eager to learn your ways. And how you tackle each section, I’m tagging along or should I say drawing along drawing your character! Don’t worry I no longer use social media platforms to post my mid level drawings I quit because no one was interested in it. I won’t use your art in any way shape or form or post it without crediting you without permission! I’m going to replicate what you do and learn how professional artists do it. This will give me an idea and inspiration to draw more often! I lost 14 years without drawing and my skills plummeted so much. Again thank you for uploading this video and I will watch all of your videos for motivation!
