The Luigi's Mansion series follows the nintendo trilogy formula perfectly.
Getting a Gamecube with a copy of Luigi's Mansion for my birthday shortly after launch in 2001 will always be one of my fondest memories. I've never wanted a console so much, and even as a kid I had some awareness of how odd it was to not have a Mario game on a console first and to have something like this instead. Wouldn't trade that experience for anything.

The European version of the Hidden Mansion, besides being a hard mode it was also a mirror mode if my memory serves me right. It's been years since I played the original one on the GameCube.

I only played the 3ds version and even when they took away most of the boos health, it still the most tedious part of the game

When I first played LM, I literally thought bowser died or something and his body was being used for the final boss.
What if King Boo is actually Bowser's ghost? I atleast always thought he was. Would explain why he hates Mario so much.
Doesn't make sense considering Mario couldn't hurt Boos in the 2D games and it's officially confirmed that the Luigi's Mansion King Boo is not the same as the one from the main series and Spin Off games.

King Boo didn't even appeared in any form in SM64. There's a difference between King Boo and Big Boo.
I feel like there's 2 King Boo's the one King Boo the "real" one is the one Luigi captures. And the one in all the Mario spinoffs is a regular Big Boo promoted to King status due to "original" King Boo's absence

I know we have gotten some backstory of the true King Boo, but I want to have a game that gives some SERIOUS explinations of his character.
Also, if Luigi's Mansion 3 DOES do that, don't tell me. I am doing my best to avoid spoilers until I finish the game for myself.
My headcanon was always the "spin-off" King Boo is the one and only King Boo while the "Luigi's Mansion" King Boo is how Luigi sees him due to his extreme fear of ghosts.
Or Big Boos are pretty much like teensies from Rayman 2 and can't agree on who's the leader (or steal the crown to each other), not knowig there's an actual king because he keeps being defeated by Luigi :P

Yeah to each his own. I respect that people enjoyed the second one, but I personally couldn't get into it and it's one of the few games I've actually sold shortly after getting it. Just felt wrong in so many ways compared to the original, which is still one of my all time favorite games.

It's just an alternate costume which are always marked with parenthesis (King Boo (Luigi's Mansion)), confirming being the same character.
In answer to why the remake wasn’t on the Switch, it has to do with the development of the series. Luigi’s Mansion GCN was originally developed with 3D capabilities, since the GameCube was gonna have a 3D peripheral for it, but was scrapped because it would have cost MORE to develop than the console itself. Years later, when the 3DS was being developed, Luigi’s Mansion was used to test the 3D capabilities of the system, which actually led to Dark Moon’s development. This is also why Luigi’s Mansion has 3D capabilities on the 3DS when it came out during an era when 3DS games weren’t utilizing the 3D feature of the system.

Luigi’s Mansion is one of my favorite games off all time. I remember when I first played the game when I was a kid, I got so scared of the first ghost that appears in the first cutscene, that I ran to my mom’s room and cried. Lol, good times, man. Good times.

Hidden mansion on the 3ds and the game does have some areas where it looks better but personally for me I think the lighting shift was a bit of a downgrade alongside the slight color shifts. Though I do understand because of different hardware it isn’t as powerful maybe? But overall still a fantastic game on both versions
I played both GameCube and 3DS versions, the 3DS version took me 2 days to complete cause I had the game memorized

Honestly, your perspective and the clips you've shown on the Luigi's Mansion 3DS port, and the fact that I beat the original game in less than 4 hours today, really makes me want to try out the 3DS version. That and I still have to buy Luigi's Mansion 3. RIP my wallet!

The Hidden Mansion in the west version sucked.... a lot. But the Hidden Mansion in the Pal Version was much better.
The remake's Hidden Mansion is nearly identical to the Pal version, but remake's wasn't mirrored.

Maybe I'll give the 3DS version another go, but with the flashlight controls, since the classic controls suck on that system! Seriously, it not being on the Switch is definitely the most valid criticism towards the game in my opinion, as it would have been even better than what it ended up as!

I was legit terrified in the Luigi’s mansion stage in Mario power tennis, apparently I screamed at the top of my 3 year old lungs whenever ghosts appeared and my parents had to return the game (but I bought it again later)

I disagree with Luigi's Mansion 3DS looking better.
Like yes, Luigi's Model is proportioned better and King Boo has his updated design from future titles.
But the Ghost transparency took a hit and more notably, the textures and lighting took a hit. Especially the lighting, which played a large part in the biggest thing that makes Luigi's Mansion 1 stand out in the series, (the atmosphere.)
Plus the controls are a lot worse and the game runs worse (especially if you're not on a New 3DS,) though those aren't related to the visuals.

Personally, I've always loved the graphics from the old LM rather than the 3DS port. I liked how the dated graphics made everything in the mansion look wonky. The furniture, the decorations, the rooms...To me, that helped build the spooky atmosphere because no matter where you looked, something was always off. Which is exactly what I would expect to see in a mansion created by an evil king ghost. It's a mansion where nothing is normal and everything gives of a bad aura, like a nightmare.
The 3ds port is more polished, which to me, takes away that wonky feeling to the mansion. Every piece of furniture looks normal. Now it just feels like you're just exploring a regular old house. Nothing spooky here.

Luigi's Mansion and Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn are the only late life 3DS titles that I fully agree should have been Switch games, especially with their emphasis on multi-player. WarioWare and Persona Q2 were totally fine as 3DS games though.

I always hated how they were unable to replicate the designs of the ghosts in this game in the newer ones.
edit: i bring this up every now and then in luigis mansion videos but how did king boo get mario if he was imprisoned?
......Oh gosh, that is confusing! I guess they were hiding in that room on purpose? Weird as that sounds. One could assume maybe Mario or Professor E. Gadd found a way to trap them down there earlier, but then if that was true, the game wouldn't have happened! ...Yeah, I'm at a loss for this one.
As for the standard ghosts though, the ones in this game are revealed to have been created by one of the Portrait Ghosts, Vincent Van Gore. The ones in Dark Moon are naturally found in Evershade Valley (and thus are intended to be completely different).

Just FYI, the King Boo in Mario Sunshine isn't King Boo. In the Japanese the King Boo we know from Luigi's Mansion is called "Kingu Teresa" - litterally "King Boo". While the King Boo in Sunshine is called "Bosu Teresa" lit, Boss Boo, one of the names for Big Boo.

Apparently the king boo from sunshine isn't the real one. Apparently all enemies in the game were made from bowser Jr's paintbrush, so bowser jr technically created that king boo.

The reason why King boo looks different in Mario kart or the sports games is because Nintendo explained the gems he uses changes his appearance. For example when he wears that red or purple gem his eyes and tongue change.

This game is a masterpiece! Also, I understand that the 3DS couldn't do much compared to the GameCube, but I'm very disapointed with the fact that Boos don't have any transparency in Luigi's Mansion 3. They looked so good in the original! (I have only seen King Boo so far so it could be just him but it is disapointing nonetheless)

If it helps assuage your childhood, it took me a good five or so years before I finished the original Luigi's mansion because the Game Over screen, the first time I got it, scared me as a kid.
