I think your comparison is pretty spot on, on how mang inasal is to Filipinos as Nandos is to the Irish and the UK.. that bit about how he got most of his descriptions of palabok wrong is hilarious..

I'm Irish and will be in the Philippines next month for my second visit in 2 years
I tried most of the local dishes, but I'm far from a foodie, the peach mango pie and pineapple juice from Jolibee was best lol.
I did try Sisig in Angeles city, it tasted much like white pudding from Ireland. Very masarap 😊

The reason they dont mix is because the Halo Halo presentation is NON TRADITIONAL. Halo Halo ingridients are suppose to be in the bottom of the cup and burried under shaved ice. So the Rule dont apply to non traditional halo halo.

Filipinos use the spoon to both cut and scoop as most of our food is braised and tender. Palabok sauce is usually a combination of pork, shrimp and anato oil that is stewed down and thickened like a gravy. It tastes best with a squeeze of calamansi (small lime) and a dash of fish sauce.

Jollibee food Corp. Already bought the franchise company Mang Inasal as well as Chowking and Red Ribbon bakeshop I think even Greenwich pizza.
Sizzling Sisig has different types of varieties right now but the original is pork back then it is meant to be eaten with beer not as a meal, now you can find chicken, seafood sisig version and even vegan sisig version like tofu, mushroom, banana blossom or young unripe jack fruit as alternative to meat version of Sisig.

We don’t really use knives for eating. Only spoon and fork. We can slice almost anything using spoon and fork and u missed out on the calamansi to the Palabok coz that’s a must and chicken oil poured into the rice plus the soy sauce, calamansi and chili dip for the grilled chicken or chicken Inasal.

I am happy 😊 that you are in The Philippines 🇵🇭. Further, the food is good 👍
Gulaman has a seaweed called agar agar. Popular in China 🇨🇳, South Korea 🇰🇷, Taiwan 🇹🇼 and Japan 🇯🇵. Different names based on the languages of these nations.
Suggested locations: Quezon City, Baguio City (the Nashville of PI), Masbate (the only Southeast Asian location for a rodeo) and Cebu Island 🏝.
One activity to do anywhere in the Philippines 🇵🇭: karaoke 🎤. It is training for Morissette Amon, Arnel Pineda and other Filipino singers. They start when they are boys 👦 and girls 👧.

    1. "Pecho" is chicken breast.
    2. Halu-halo originated from Japanese immigrants who lived in Manila in the 1920s. They served kakigori (Japanese shaved ice dessert with sweet beans) at first, then this dessert evolved over the years into the halu-halo that we know now.
    3. The fruit that you thought was pineapple is jackfruit.
    4. Mang Inasal's halu-halo is better than Jollibee's.

You know what they say, you can't really give an authentic comment on another country's culture until you stay and immerse. Most of the time your voice gives the clue....rapid, fast and has an attitude of "let's get this over with" even to the point of "similarizing" our food to yours just to take hold of how it taste without considering really the real intent.
