- Mario games are all about running to the right. At first glance the right button seems to be required to beat any 2D Mario game. But is it though? Is it really necessary to press right to beat New Super Mario Bros U or is there a way to make it through the game without ever running into the direction the game wants us to go? In this video we will try to beat New Super Mario Bros. U without the option to go to the right, and we will find out what the minimum amount of right presses needed to beat New Super Mario Bros U.

He said at the beginning that he counts right presses on the world map and in pipes as meta presses. You knew that from the very start of this video. It doesn't matter if you don't agree with his definition of meta presses, he listed his definition for the purposes of this video, ensuring people knew not to expect a no meta right press run.
He also said that it was possible to beat NSMB U without any *gameplay presses* . With his definition of gameplay presses, this is objectively true. If you want to argue about the definition, sure, but it's a waste of time because I'm not going to get into a pointless discussion with someone who plays FNaF and Roblox and I don't think anyone else will, either.
Sorry, it's just annoying when people say a bunch of retarded crap and act like it's true.

I prefer videos like this one when you don't tell us which are the hardest levels but just go through all of them, taking longer for the tricky ones. It, therefore, creates tension until the very end, rather than having a finite list of things to avoid after which we know we're done.

its actually very simple! first you need to build a machine that pushes buttons for you, program it to push buttons at the perfect timing, and then watch the machine do the work (or just use tas and do the exact same thing but with less building XD)

It takes a special combination of curiosity, insanity, and dedication to actually figure out a way to beat an entire game while ommitting an entire directional input as much as possible.
The fact that it only took 13 forced game presses is crazy to think about.

I think it’s possible to get to 5-1 with only 4 meta presses, that brings the meta count to 13.
Can you beat the game by only hitting the right button 13.5 times per each 2 levels that don’t include an even number. If they do include an even number, you can only beat the levels by killing every koopa that is dancing
