In order for the RTH to be accurate during landing you have to fly 30’ above where you took off. If you do that it will land within inches of your takeoff point.
If you takeoff and hover 30feet above your landing pad, then look down with the camera for a second or two, then when returning to home look back down with the camera as the mavic is flying in it will land within 3" of where it took off from every time!
How can you get this distance? My Mavic stops dead at 500 metres from take off. I flew it in an open area with line of sight and it just stopped. Same with height, stopped dead at 100m
There's a setting in the app where it limits the distance it will fly. You just need to change that. Click the little drone-shaped button and the options will pop up.
Chris Addams Yeah thanks I found it yesterday. Im in Bahamas right now and I noticed the software made an update based on location. Not sure if that made a difference?
The Mavic Pro is an amazing machine. Even though I fly line of sight I appreciate Occusync for the strength of signal even in heavy interference areas. The max distance I get with my wifi drones is ~200 meters. The MP transmission is solid out to as far as my eyes can see (600+ meters).
I too have a Mavic Pro - just compared this test with your other range test with the parabolic antenna's and sport mode - regular mode is way more efficient - in regular mode at 30mph you went from 95%-64% and you went 15,515 feet (so 31 percent for 15,515 feet or 500 feet/percent) - in sport mode around 33mph you went from 91%-45% and you went 16,755 feet (so 46 percent for 14,875 feet or 324 feet/percent) - so your better off in regular mode and you will get 500 feet/percent - you also returned early on the regular test and if you stayed longer I am sure you would have got more distance in regular mode vs sport mode. Safer in regular mode with obstacle avoidance. Great videos - keep em coming !!!
hey man, this is prolly by far the best mavic pro range test i watched!! not only your shooting this in hawaii but the footage you got is amazing! i totally cant wait to get my mavic pro in the mail!
Try tapping further in the distance to activate the "Infinite" focus. I believe your issue you had landing was due to the pages of the magazine flipping so when it was setting home it didn't recognize that as a stable/suitable landing spot for when it returned.
One of the better distance flights I've watched. Glad you got the focus issue worked out. I have the Mavic Pro as well but it's to cold up here in Newfoundland, Canada to fly. Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed it.
Paul & Kathy Short dji have just updated the go app for users in the update notes it's says about the start up process in cold environments for dji drones
Paul & Kathy Short ya because your battery was low when that happens it won't go to exactly to the home point so it judges really not happy it when 3 miles and only a couple of foot away from you and your not happy lol some people complain about anything lol
Dustin Dunnill hey. I have a similar problem with my Mavic. The focus does that and the only way to solve that issue is by resetting camera settings just like you did. The issue still happens from time to time. Do you have any advice on how to solve it for good? What solution did you find? Thanks for your time.
You probably already know this, but you need to rise at least 20 feet in order for the precision landing to work. The new DJI go app has a checkbox under takeoff that takes care of this for you.
Alex D - It's a grand for this quad. It uses more than gps to locate rth landing point. Which is the point he's trying to make... it should have recognized the magazine as the loading point since it is contrasting the surrounding grass. it didn't... ie: it failed. Sorry for the name calling guys. I have the mavic myself awesome quad by dji, I've had it for about 3 months now. Better and quieter than the phantoms. Mavic does more or the same as the phantoms. I love my Mavic. Highly recommended.
chase well actually the landing is pretty accurate the problem is he didn't fly up to the required 10 meters up before taking off for an accurate landing.
Hi...the autofocus was struggling because there was mist/clouds around....I'm a professional still photographer...and it is a common issue...not a dji issue. I have recently acquired a dji mavic pro too
Okay so Mavic was already released. Yeah you should have probably gone with the Mavic. But I think you can still sell the Bebop because its quite new? You could get decent money and buy the Mavic Pro instead.
DDJ I mavick advertises return to home function landing within 2 m or 6'ft. The controller you are holding says landing in 2meters (6ft). You also personally made a statement that the drone was roughly 6' from the magazine. So it would appear to me that the product is working exactly as advertised
I have a new Mavic coming to replace a Yuneec. From what I've heard I need to go up 10 meters on startup to get the proper accuracy. According to your remote you were only 17 feet above where you took off. Maybe try going up 33 feet and give it another try. I'm curious.
Before I take off I wait a long time to have the most gps and then I take off and stay a while over take off location for the drone to take a picture of take off point and then I go on with my flight. Works all the time everytime for me. But I have less then 15 flights done as I work all the time.
For gps at least 2-3 minutes. There is a message that briefly show up saying the drone successfuly recorded the take off location. I use v3 app on Android. I stay away from v4 as I only read bad things about it.
In order for the auto landing feature to be more accurate, when you take off fly the drone straight up to about 40'. This will allow the drone to scan the area below much better and determine the landing spot. When you do this the drone will land within inches of the initial take off point
The mav didn't land where it was suppose to because you didn't go high enough for it to take a correct photo memory of the terrain, its in the instructions. Also, didn't you close the magazine after the take off?
Wow way above 400' - what is the suggestion by the FAA when you take off from a mountain? Are you supposed to fly down? How do you know where 400' is if you are on a 1000' mountain??? Dustin was only 20' above his takeoff point until RTH took over.
try 10,000 feet mountain. he was out over the valley at 6,000 feet. if you have ever flown into Maui....you would know...he was flying right in the middle of the OGG landing patern. Not safe at all.
This was no where near far enough out to be 6000feet AGL. I'm sorry but your completely exaggerating. For starters my launch elevation was around 4000ft. I flew at a slightly sideways angle away from the mountain so the elevation was not dropping as much. Please get your research correct before crying wolf :)
Sorry, that means 400ft AGL. Above ground level. You exceeded that and you should have flown downhill staying under 400ft AGL. This is exactly why any commercial UAV operator has to go to ground school. Sadly, you don't know what you don't know. Invest $300 in a GA Ground School. It will make you a much more professional operator. I'm not being a PITA, but I can speak from experience. It was UAV flying that drove me to get my pilots license.
I totally agree Michael. I just took ground school. I am a realtor and lots of other realtors are shooting their photos illegally. I took the ground school and it scared the heck out of me. Now I go back in the MLS and see that there are inexperienced drone operators with listing photos with their drone right in the middle of the landing approach for our International Airport. Yikes. People need to figure this out quickly. Drones have metal in them and they will be much more damaging to planes than the birds they test them against. Very constructive comment. I don't get the sense that this operator is a reckless person per se (e.g. finding an area perceived to be without homes, etc. So I think a lot of well meaning people make mistakes. I came away from my training feeling inclined to treat drones as aircraft -- not as toys with cameras attached. Drone operators are piloting aircraft -- plain and simple.
Good test. thx. I love the Mavic Pro, the easiest drone to fly. I got it last week, with a couple youtube videos I was up on the air, it handles very easy. impressive footage, I did my editing with Final Cut. EASY!!!!! all done in the same day. I went hiking; my bottle water was heavier then my Mavic Pro. I LOVE IT, great work DJI.
Probably the best DJI review I've seen. Ran into all the goofy issues with a phantom. App not working right on android, demanding updates at inappropriate times, etc. But for the price it's a hell of a cool piece of equipment.
Ummm... didn't the wind take the magazine away from its starting point, after you first took off? Of course the Mavic didn't detect the fact that you moved the landing magazine...
Range tests are cool and all but what about FAA Small Unmanned Aircraft Regulations (Part 107)? Specifically LOS, Line of Sight flight operations. You start on a mountain top but most flying is done in the clouds, is the 400 ft altitude limit not a factor in your flight plans? Just curious.
teamscreem that only applies to non hobbyists and commercial use drones I contacted the FAA for clarification. 1/2 lb to 55lb unmanned drones need to be registered for non hobbyists. LOS is recommended but not required if you have a visual observer. Same for RC aircraft hobbyists. All these people claiming your breaking laws are just pedaling drone courses for monetary gain.
I love your channel, I've bought 8 DJI drones over the years, after watching your videos. Starting with the Mini 2 & AIR 2. My latest are the Mini 4 Pro & AIR 3. I've kept them all except the Mini 2 & AIR 2, I sold them a year and half ago, to buy the Mini 3 Pro and AIR 2s. I always buy the fly more combos, & I try to buy DJI certified refurbished, from the DJI Store whenever possible, to save money. I've found that buying certified Refurbished directly from DJI or Drone Nerds is as good as buying new, you literally can't tell the difference, between new & refurbished. Same 1 year warranty as new, new batteries with zero cycles, & still eligible for the Care Refresh Plan. I just ordered the Integra goggles Motion 2 Combo, when I ordered my AIR 3 the other day, & I cannot wait, to try the Mini 4 Pro & air 3 with FPV goggles. Thanks again for all the great content.
I wouldn't complain too much about the GPS/RTH, 2m (6.6ft) is rather good. Read the following: "...The actual accuracy GPS users attain depends on factors outside the government's control, including atmospheric effects, sky blockage, and receiver quality. Real-world data from the FAA show their high-quality GPS SPS receivers attaining better than 2.168 meter horizontal accuracy, 95% of the time..."
Dustin Dunnill Well you shouldn't be at all disappointed because you took off on something that was smaller than the Mavic so it's kind of your fault. So don't be disappointed about it since a magazine isn't at all a good place to land.
The prop wash flipped the magazine over to a different page so the pattern would be different to what you tried to land back on. You flipped the page back before landing.
Brian Roberts mine usually lands in the same spot, I'd say +/- 5cm. Sometimes it's a metrer off, but man, that's damn accurate anyway. I never use any landing pads or anything, a crack in the tarmac is enough for mavic. even the patchy grass makes it accurate. usually.
Very cool, just got my mavic still learning in beginner mode, luv what I'm seeing, what suck for me is I'm in Texas and it dumped tons of rain last night, so I'm spending time watching UA-cam videos
This is a great video and thanks for doing it! I like the fact that you chatted throughout the video and fessed up to the fact that you kind of screwed up the focus. I think it was useful to show the screen all of the way as well. It's good for me because I am new to this whole thing. I did also wonder about the trajectory of your flight, given that the airport is just on the east side of the island. You do have to keep in mind your altitude as it went away 3 miles from you and stayed pretty much 20 feet above where you were standing. I look forward to seeing more of your videos and this is probably the device for me. I am a little confused how so many people have this and I don't seem to be able to get one until the end of March.
+John Peggau hey John glad you enjoyed it. This location is around 14 miles from the nearest airport. I'm hoping drones will include a ground altitude in the HUD soon so pilots are more aware of the above ground altitude (AGL). It's hard to know exactly in a situation like this. It's so popular that there is still a backorder. It took me over a month to get mine after placing the order.
maybe it may be worth resetting camera to check it's operational status 'before' making a video about a distance flight, next time? It was frustrating looking at the ground as if it was a cheap drone with a cheap camera.
As soon as you hit that cloud, I was waiting for you to say if we are getting peanuts and soda or just coffee, tea or water for in flight snacks because you have that typical pilot voice LOL
You mean magma or lava? Well, an active volcano might be a poor choice, considering all the risk unless for use as a first response emergency or something. There are other UA-cam videos of these things. Definitely need to be up wind and the like; still a huge risk though. Personally, I'd rather safety and the lives of people take priority than footage, if you know what I mean. Not saying you're implying otherwise, of course. Just my two cents.
Wait a minute ,I watched this video over three years ago and never noticed your comment Jim , what the hell became of your flabby ass Jim ? I was looking for some new content from you just last week and can't really find anything , sure hope everything is fine on your end ,I use to enjoy your content with that flabbyass attitude, hahahaaaaa , it is because of you and some others that got me into this mess with Drones and got me broke ,take care Jim ,THE DEMUNSEED .
Mr. Bill : I am with you. The younger generation has no appreciation for the classics. Tchaikovsky and Beethoven are too refined for their taste. Their taste is strictly in their mouth. Seventies rock and music of that era is so much better than the crap that passes for music these days. Rap is a lame vehicle for no talent pretenders. Any music that has an amplified base drum as the lead instrument and spoken profanity, not sung lyrics, is a crude joke. A true music aficionado appreciates and listens to all types of music as long as it is written and performed by truly talented artists.
Don, I'm with you on the 70's music. In fact, I'm just a couple years younger than John Travolta. When Saturday Night Fever came out, I was one of those guys in Canton, OH firing up the disco floor. LOL, yes, I had the girls coming to me for a dance. My son is 29 years old and not only enjoys all the classics, but he himself is a very talented portrait artist. With the exception of the Louvre in Paris, I have more paintings of Napoleon than anyone else. Of course, I have my son's versions and not Napoleon's personal painter, David's, versions. I'd have to be Donald Trump to afford those..;)
David : Not disrespect taken. I an an old timer. As a kid, in the late fifties/early sixties, I lived up the street from, and played with Barry Goudreau. In later years he was the lead guitar in the musical group "Boston". I saw the Beatles on live TV when in high school. My dad was into big band 40s music. Musical taste is developed over years of being exposed to many different music genre.
Man I also have crashing problem on LG G5 with my P3 Standard, app crashes when wireless or mobile internet is enabled before I run it, when I turn on airplane mode and start app, then turn on wireless it doesn't crash.
dude...be careful. You flew right across the OGG glide slope @ depending on where you took off, around 6,000 feet above the valley floor. Don't be the 1st guy who hit a 777.
This was no where near far enough out to be 6000feet AGL. I'm sorry but your completely exaggerating. For starters my launch elevation was around 4000ft. I flew at a slightly sideways angle away from the mountain so the elevation was not dropping as much as you may think. 777's would never fly this low or close to the mountain.
Nice guy, cool video but no clue about why crossing a published glide slope would be a problem or what airspace rules apply. 400 Feet AGL max in uncontrolled airspace (takeoff altitude doesn't count) and remain clear of clouds. I opposed licensing for drone pilots but after watching this video I'm starting to rethink my opinion.
I loved it! Thank you. It is illegal in Iran, and I am dying for having one. the price is $1000 in USA but here, since it is smuggled, it is equal to $2000! Hope I can find someone to get a license and buy one one day! But thank you for sharing this. Thanks many times!
This is an identical range and an identical speed to my trusty old phantom 3P. I have a totally standard setup without any mods! I thought the mavick would be better?
I just bought one for $500 barely used, honestly all I had to do was consistently work for a little over a week and I was able to afford it haha. Figure I can get some cash on the side for shots to help pay for it so we'll see.
Fantastic! Sorry if I missed this but, can you please document how you resolved the focus problem? I am going to be receiving my Mavic in a couple days and don't want to have the same problem. Thanks.
Justin H if the Vitus does half of what the Mavic can do it will be a steal ? The camera on the Vitus is a lot bigger but I think Walkera might change this when it's launched .
Go read FAA rules. You can't legally fly in clouds. Also because he took off from a mountain and it's over a valley you can't go by what it says for elevation. It's AGL that matters and not take off elevation. 400 foot max AGL for UAS.
If you've ever been to Hawaii you would know that there are a lot of helicopters being used. It's just not smart to do this, not to mention it's against the law. It's not worth the risk. I'm sure it's tempting, but man when the $hit hits the fan (no pun intended), it's going to ruin the hobby for the rest of us.
+Dustin Dunnill. Hi, I'm a drone beginner right now but turning into a pasion. I own the hubsan h501s and want to get the MAVIC that's why I'm looking here at your videos. But one thing that I saw is the numeric sistem is in ft. on your phone. Is there a setting you can change that?
I aquired a Mavic Pro that I fixed up, my first drone. I have been really enjoying it so far. How does it stack up compared to newer DJI offerings? Still decent or junk?
Its an good drone. Dji released a lot of updates after He maked more videos. Now it has auto focus. I have the platinum its same but has 4 min more flight time and one of the quietest dji dronea
Perfectly legal in view of his hobbyist flight under Public Law 112-95 Section 336 also restated in Title 14 CFR Chapter I Subchapter F Part 101 Subpart E - Special Rule for Model Aircraft (§§ 101.41 - 101.43). Legal, end of story. What would be frowned upon is manned aircraft flying around a mountainside in or below the clouds.
Totally illegal. You didn't read the whole story. Did you notice the part about being " operated in accordance with a community-based set of safety guidelines and within the programming of a nationwide community-based organization"? The only one I know of, and the only one the FAA has recognized is the AMA. From their safety code "The pilot of an RC model aircraft shall: (a) Maintain control during the entire flight, maintaining visual contact without enhancement other than by corrective lenses prescribed for the pilot.". If you know of another organization one which fits this legislation and doesn't have this guidance, please let me know. Sec 336 sub-paragraph (c) says that to fly under hobbyist classification, the aircraft must be " flown within visual line of sight of the person operating" the aircraft. Not only that, but you must not interfere with manned aircraft. If your drone is in a cloud, how do you know you are not doing that. And of course you cannot endanger the national air space. Again, if you are operating out of sight in a cloud, where IFR flights can operate, you are violating that one. So this flight violated at least three sections of Sec 336. I will link to Sec. 336. Please read the whole thing for yourself. I think if you study it a little closer, you will see that your "Legal, end of story" is very much in error. Many people make a mistake when they read just the part that says the FAA can't pass regs for hobbyist. You have to read on, because this document goes on to define what a hobbyist is. That is where the rules come in, and of course the AMA safety code. I am a newbie to drones, but I have operated under FAA rules for decades. If you think I am in error on this, please let me know. I am not an aviation attorney, so I could be wrong. The government doesn't make this easy to find, or easy to interpret.
So I'm new to drones and I'm curious about how elevation is figured and if you can get into trouble flying as high as you did in this video. It's my understanding that drones should stay under 400 ft elevation. You never exceeded more than 200 ft from your take-off point, however, the ground dropped away and you were actually flying much higher than 400 ft. Can the FAA fine you for exceeding 400 ft or is the 400 ft ceiling calculated from your take-off elevation?
Hi greetings from uk ,great video..quick question does it record video straight onto the phone sd card or is it recorded onto an sd card in the drone ? thanks
Haha! It's fun to go back and see how comparatively timid you were regarding range testing then. You're an all-out thrill seeker now! Nice to see how far DJI has come with ocusync and how other companies are just now starting to close the gap.
I did a 3 mile straight out run with mine yesterday in the uk apparently the max distance is 4 miles for the mavic not sure i believe it conditions were perfect for my run
It is crazy how fast the drone industry is progressing.. One thing, they should change that return to home alarm...maybe beep every 10 seconds instead of constantly.
This was a great starter video for me. 6 miles is far enough for me to fly lol.. i’ve been flying a parrot bebop two for a while, but I have recently bought a DJI Mavic pro. Is there anything I should keep in mind with this drone?
On the Mavic landing accuracy using the magazine, i noticed the magazine pages were flapping around during take off and hover which could have made the take off and landing pictures different causing it not to lock onto the magazine for landing.
Hi, great film. Just one question... during the away flight the app was showing 17ft of altitude but during the return it was showing 195ft. It looks that the drone updated the altitude when RTH was activated. Dont you thing it is a bit weird? In my opinion it should keep the same relative height
You can set the rth hight. Since it comes back in a straight line autonomously, it's good to set it to go higher than obstacles around you where you'll be flying.
Just coming back to this video to see how far DJI drones have advanced in battery life and range. It’s incredible
@@EverythingTitanic yeah…
Watching the drone footage with the camera facing down brought back some memories of me playing MW2, “ AC130 ABOVE “ 😂
In order for the RTH to be accurate during landing you have to fly 30’ above where you took off. If you do that it will land within inches of your takeoff point.
Does this work for the Mavic Mini? And do you hover 30' above and then set the home point?
Pine State Overland. If the Mini is as accurate as the other DJI drones it will land in RTH witin inches of the place where you started.
Dustin trade in the LG for an Apple and you see the difference
If you takeoff and hover 30feet above your landing pad, then look down with the camera for a second or two, then when returning to home look back down with the camera as the mavic is flying in it will land within 3" of where it took off from every time!
How can you get this distance? My Mavic stops dead at 500 metres from take off. I flew it in an open area with line of sight and it just stopped. Same with height, stopped dead at 100m

Chris Addams Yeah thanks I found it yesterday. Im in Bahamas right now and I noticed the software made an update based on location. Not sure if that made a difference?
Probably already worked this out, but to do precision landing you need to raise up to 10m or something before going forward.
The Mavic Pro is an amazing machine. Even though I fly line of sight I appreciate Occusync for the strength of signal even in heavy interference areas. The max distance I get with my wifi drones is ~200 meters. The MP transmission is solid out to as far as my eyes can see (600+ meters).
could not agree more
Do you need a special license to not have to fly line of sight?
still trying to decide which kidney to sell to get a mavic! 😆
T Dingman none of them !! all you have to do is work a little and voila !!
ARMOR PIERCER all I do is work! haha, kids(two in college and two in high school) take every cent I make and then some. 😊
RD Simmers or two! haha
T Dingman I sold both
VLOD & HELENA would love to find treasure! 😃
Goals in Life:
1) Buy a Mavic and teach my son how to fly it.
2) Have a son....
Jerry Fitz wx
Did you have a son yet?
Do you need more time for son ?
Jerry Fitz 😂😂 I have 4 boys so I guess that means I can buy 4 drones. Lol.
Teach your son to love and fly DJI products and he will never have enough money to buy drugs later on in life :)

GPS can be off by up to 30 feet at times so that will impact anything using it.
Try tapping further in the distance to activate the "Infinite" focus. I believe your issue you had landing was due to the pages of the magazine flipping so when it was setting home it didn't recognize that as a stable/suitable landing spot for when it returned.
I bought a Mavic Pro and it is great. RTH feature works perfectly with a flat square plywood landing platform. Lands with pinpoint accuracy.
One of the better distance flights I've watched. Glad you got the focus issue worked out. I have the Mavic Pro as well but it's to cold up here in Newfoundland, Canada to fly. Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed it.
Thanks Paul. Glad it was useful for you. Hope you get some good weather to fly in soon :)
Didn't it say it lands within 5m of where it took off from?
Paul & Kathy Short dji have just updated the go app for users in the update notes it's says about the start up process in cold environments for dji drones

You disappointed ? And you have 3 miles flight ?
Fidelito in South Florida the guy is a moron, he's worried about the God damn magazine home point but it was off 4 feet away from him.
Alex D Wow that's not kool, calling someone a moron for fixing a magazine? ever heard of OCD? I am pretty sure he has it. why the name calling?
Alex D - It's a grand for this quad. It uses more than gps to locate rth landing point. Which is the point he's trying to make... it should have recognized the magazine as the loading point since it is contrasting the surrounding grass.
it didn't... ie: it failed.
For a grand.. that's disappointing.

Hi...the autofocus was struggling because there was mist/clouds around....I'm a professional still photographer...and it is a common issue...not a dji issue. I have recently acquired a dji mavic pro too
I feel like I wasted my money on the bebop 2 and skycontroller black. This looks so much better
Sensei Dekkers you did...
I didn't expect this to come out. Didn't even know it existed..
Sensei Dekkers when did you buy the bebop?
Arttu Siukonen November 2016
Okay so Mavic was already released. Yeah you should have probably gone with the Mavic. But I think you can still sell the Bebop because its quite new? You could get decent money and buy the Mavic Pro instead.
DDJ I mavick advertises return to home function landing within 2 m or 6'ft. The controller you are holding says landing in 2meters (6ft). You also personally made a statement that the drone was roughly 6' from the magazine. So it would appear to me that the product is working exactly as advertised
wow i didnt know The mavic had this kinda range and height. I just bought a yuneec breeze selfi drone and the mavic is like God compared to it.
I have a new Mavic coming to replace a Yuneec. From what I've heard I need to go up 10 meters on startup to get the proper accuracy. According to your remote you were only 17 feet above where you took off. Maybe try going up 33 feet and give it another try. I'm curious.
Your right. DJI has improved on screen notifications for this function since this flight 👍
Mine came back within 3cm of take off with correct heading after a 2km flight in a poor contrast scenario (snow/ice)
+Daniel Lelievre mine does good like that occasionally but 9 out of 10 landings are not so great.
Before I take off I wait a long time to have the most gps and then I take off and stay a while over take off location for the drone to take a picture of take off point and then I go on with my flight. Works all the time everytime for me. But I have less then 15 flights done as I work all the time.
+Daniel Lelievre How long would you say you wait at each step? May need to work that in to my flight flow :)
For gps at least 2-3 minutes. There is a message that briefly show up saying the drone successfuly recorded the take off location. I use v3 app on Android. I stay away from v4 as I only read bad things about it.
Daniel Lelievre V3 not supported anymore after February.
In order for the auto landing feature to be more accurate, when you take off fly the drone straight up to about 40'. This will allow the drone to scan the area below much better and determine the landing spot. When you do this the drone will land within inches of the initial take off point

+ Dustin Dunnill. Just admit it. The womens fashion magazine was yours. Great video!
+russ lol..OK maybe I thumbed through it once or twice.
lol
what's the name of the background music?
Ohhh I'm getting one distance of this thing is insane
The mav didn't land where it was suppose to because you didn't go high enough for it to take a correct photo memory of the terrain, its in the instructions. Also, didn't you close the magazine after the take off?
this video made my choice today. I just ordered mine. thanks for the great video
Was there any moisture on the drone from flying through the clouds?
A little on the plastic which dried quickly
Dustin Dunnill and anything on the camera? Wanting to try fly through clouds too, footage looks gorgeous!
Dustin, your video is in my top five. Nice job pilot!
What's crazy is that your Mavic Mini topped this! Great videos as always.

Looks like the Mavic is a better drone than the Karma but the Karma has a much better camera?
Thanks for doing that test. I haven't had the nerve to do the same yet.
Agree with u about the camera and focusing.. I have mavic and it has a problem with resolution. Not sure why..
I ordered the platinum and it will be here tomorrow afternoon!!!😍😍😍
Ughh you're so lucky to have that
What’s the difference with the platinum than the regular pro
Just got mavic 2 pro :)
@Brad Robinson That’s amazing, I’m getting my Mavic Pro Platinum after September. Because of COVID-19, my parents refused to buy it for me
do you get nervous about the drone being a flyaway? Is there even anything we can do about it if it happens?
Good test.
+RauL TuLan Right on Raul. It's a great compact craft for sure 😀
Probably the best DJI review I've seen. Ran into all the goofy issues with a phantom. App not working right on android, demanding updates at inappropriate times, etc. But for the price it's a hell of a cool piece of equipment.
+John Doe Thanks JD 🤙☺️
That flying above the clouds is crazy! Love it.
Ummm... didn't the wind take the magazine away from its starting point, after you first took off?
Read the following:
"...The actual accuracy GPS users attain depends on factors outside the government's control, including atmospheric effects, sky blockage, and receiver quality. Real-world data from the FAA show their high-quality GPS SPS receivers attaining better than 2.168 meter horizontal accuracy, 95% of the time..."
It did well. I was just expecting better accuracy since it has the "precision landing" feature which I may have not used correctly here.
I never use any landing pads or anything, a crack in the tarmac is enough for mavic. even the patchy grass makes it accurate. usually.
PortugalCarp The Mavic isn't using gps, alone. Also visual sensors. That is the disappointment to what he was referring.
If I'm not mistaken the Mavic needs to be at 10 or 12 feet above the take off spot for the drone to take a photo for precision landing.
Very cool, just got my mavic still learning in beginner mode, luv what I'm seeing, what suck for me is I'm in Texas and it dumped tons of rain last night, so I'm spending time watching UA-cam videos
I remember when you did the distance test with your old CX-20. Wasn't that about 3 miles as well?
+Whiffles Yes, 3 miles after heavy battery and FPV, control booster mods :). Would be interesting to see if the Mavic could hold a larger battery.
Seems doubtful. I think it's rather impressive it can go that far on such a small battery.
Meh...🍭
As soon as you hit that cloud, I was waiting for you to say if we are getting peanuts and soda or just coffee, tea or water for in flight snacks because you have that typical pilot voice LOL
Your skies are considerably bluer then the mainland, do you get much Geoengineering in Hawaii?
You've got an excellent speaking voice! Great tutorial... Jim (DEMUNSEED). Hey, when do we get to see that VOLCANO!!?
You mean magma or lava? Well, an active volcano might be a poor choice, considering all the risk unless for use as a first response emergency or something. There are other UA-cam videos of these things. Definitely need to be up wind and the like; still a huge risk though. Personally, I'd rather safety and the lives of people take priority than footage, if you know what I mean. Not saying you're implying otherwise, of course. Just my two cents.
Wait a minute ,I watched this video over three years ago and never noticed your comment Jim , what the hell became of your flabby ass Jim ? I was looking for some new content from you just last week and can't really find anything , sure hope everything is fine on your end ,I use to enjoy your content with that flabbyass attitude, hahahaaaaa , it is because of you and some others that got me into this mess with Drones and got me broke ,take care Jim ,THE DEMUNSEED .
hey Dustin ! what's the name of the background music you used ?
Dude, the music has got to go ;p
I like Tchaikovsky, but you can't please everyone
Well, I am humbled by a few folks who are obviously cultured and intelligent. Chatisement accepted. No disrespect was meant!
Why do you hv to flip & turn the aircraft so many times while it is in your hands ???
Mann if that's blurred for that cam that's awesome cause it looks nice to me
P.H.D. RC
.
Man I also have crashing problem on LG G5 with my P3 Standard, app crashes when wireless or mobile internet is enabled before I run it, when I turn on airplane mode and start app, then turn on wireless it doesn't crash.
+NigiVlogs thanks.
dude...be careful.
You're launch elevation was illegal, genius. You seriously need to learn wtf you're doing before you hurt people.
Mine lands on the spot. As long as you keep it above the landing spot for 10m vertical take off. I am not sure why yours was so off.
Your right. I was not going high enough. Since this video it's perfect going up higher first 👍
i like the background music. keep up the good work
+TwinTurbo Hybrid Thank you
Dustin Dunnill background music name please ? :)
Dustin Dunnill on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate the mavic please answer as soon as possible
Some of the music was from "The 1812 Overture," by Tchaikovsky.
Can you reset the camera while in flight, or is that like a hard reset you have to do?
+Gadget Inspector Good question. It's the software camera reset within DJI go app but I haven't tried in flight. Only while on and disarmed
I loved it! Thank you. It is illegal in Iran, and I am dying for having one. the price is $1000 in USA but here, since it is smuggled, it is equal to $2000!
Hope I can find someone to get a license and buy one one day!
But thank you for sharing this. Thanks many times!
damn man that sucks you guys can not have them in Iran. did you ever get one?
The US army fly drones over Iran all the the time and the governments are worried about civilians.
This is an identical range and an identical speed to my trusty old phantom 3P. I have a totally standard setup without any mods! I thought the mavick would be better?
nice video 😍
Wow, that is a great drone. It is small and compact and shoots great video. Plus the flight distance is incredible.
Oh man I'm 17 and watching this video..I want one so bad!! Ugh but they're so expensive!
I'm 14 , and i want they really really really bad than you :P
Get a job! And use your hard earned money to enjoy life
im 12 and i want one really bad. i have a spark
Get a C-Fly Obtain...it's not expensive, and i promise your friends would LOVE watching you fly it!
I just bought one for $500 barely used, honestly all I had to do was consistently work for a little over a week and I was able to afford it haha. Figure I can get some cash on the side for shots to help pay for it so we'll see.
Isn't Haleakala a National State Park? Also flying over 400FT above the ground.. Did you get permission?
I love my drone but as a private pilot if we are to share airspace with amateur hobbyists then please read the FAA/CAA rules and stick to them
mdaydj
chase, he needs to maintain 'line of sight' with the craft.
He lost visuals with the drone. That's a clear breach.
IP Freelee i dont know if youre ironic or serious but its fine what he is doing
mdaydj chill my god its a fuck small drone
did you have the precision landing turned on? I didnt see the camera pan down on takeoff to get a precise takeoff location.
Nice video Dustin i like your videos and i subscribe
+Boznian_25 Thank you 😁👍
Fantastic! Sorry if I missed this but, can you please document how you resolved the focus problem? I am going to be receiving my Mavic in a couple days and don't want to have the same problem. Thanks.
Can't wait to see how the $600 Walkera Vitus stacks up to the Mavic!
Justin H if the Vitus does half of what the Mavic can do it will be a steal ? The camera on the Vitus is a lot bigger but I think Walkera might change this when it's launched .
:)
Yuneek is dumb can't do anything like dji. I have many examples.
Nice video. Did you have to turn off any of the Mavic’s sensors to fly it in the clouds?
That was very bad flying over a cloud deck like that. You are risking a collision with full scale aircraft.
randybull01 planes dont fly that low
Go read FAA rules. You can't legally fly in clouds. Also because he took off from a mountain and it's over a valley you can't go by what it says for elevation. It's AGL that matters and not take off elevation. 400 foot max AGL for UAS.
Yeah your right just look at all those 'Full size aircraft' that were flying around in his vicinity.
Pet dogs kill !! go use your energy to ban them.
+ZeD Hi yes , you can choose metric or imperial
3:02 is what you came for
So can you see this on the screen the whole time or not cause I thought the fpv part only goes a few hundred meters
Another thing is that DJI is bias toward apple sooooooooooo yah...... but anyway... I don't mind bc I am a apple person but yah.............
Do you even know what a women's touch is like?
Totally illegal. You didn't read the whole story. Did you notice the part about being " operated in accordance with a community-based set of safety guidelines and within the programming of a nationwide community-based organization"? The only one I know of, and the only one the FAA has recognized is the AMA. From their safety code "The pilot of an RC model aircraft shall:
(a) Maintain control during the entire flight, maintaining visual contact without enhancement other than by corrective lenses prescribed for the pilot.".
Shut up. You don't have a clue on what your talking about.
Can the FAA fine you for exceeding 400 ft or is the 400 ft ceiling calculated from your take-off elevation?
what if it lost the signal.Does it returns to home automaticly?
Do u turn your LED'S OFF DURING THE DAY?
Hi greetings from uk ,great video..quick question does it record video straight onto the phone sd card or is it recorded onto an sd card in the drone ? thanks
you buy these drones or get sponsorship?
It shows you at a constant 17feet up. Does it stay at that because thats your home spot?
link for sun shield?
Why had problems with autofocus? The camera could not focus the image, and the video was blurry.
Dustin, how come if it's advertised as going 4.2 miles...? It lost signal at 3?
It is crazy how fast the drone industry is progressing..
One thing, they should change that return to home alarm...maybe beep every 10 seconds instead of constantly.
This was a great starter video for me. 6 miles is far enough for me to fly lol.. i’ve been flying a parrot bebop two for a while, but I have recently bought a DJI Mavic pro. Is there anything I should keep in mind with this drone?
Calibrate correctly and there's not much that you can do to crash these ones 👍
a mavic is not a tomahawk cruise missile. Did you even calibrate the compass before you took off?
On the Mavic landing accuracy using the magazine, i noticed the magazine pages were flapping around during take off and hover which could have made the take off and landing pictures different causing it not to lock onto the magazine for landing.
I can’t believe how far these drones can fly! How is this possible? What kind of radio tech are they using?
Hi, great film. Just one question... during the away flight the app was showing 17ft of altitude but during the return it was showing 195ft. It looks that the drone updated the altitude when RTH was activated. Dont you thing it is a bit weird? In my opinion it should keep the same relative height
You can set the rth hight. Since it comes back in a straight line autonomously, it's good to set it to go higher than obstacles around you where you'll be flying.
Great range test, how would you compare mavic pro to mi 4k drone I'm just trying to decide which is best value. Thanks
Get the Mi if size and advanced optical tracking functions aren't a deal breaker for you. Otherwise Mavic is fantastic.
there is no manual focusing option? you could use it and focus to the max distance?
