i'm a beginner and so are most of my friends, what i've learned is that skateboarding is like 30% skill and 70% mindset. if you're not afraid to fail, you'll learn way faster.
Imre I have the worst thing in your comment it is the afraid to fail
yeah like i know i can do it but i’m scared of falling and getting hurt :((

This is for anyone who is a beginner. Ollies are really hard to learn. Don’t quit because you don’t get it instantly. You can get it. I would recommend getting skater trainers (25$) and practice. Use the practice steps that Aaron says but also do this. Step 1 press down on the tail and lift your front foot. Step 2 lean your front foot so it’s sideways on the grip. Step 3 drag your front foot up the griptape, it will ruin your shoes. Step 4 press down with your front foot. Step 5. Add the jump. Remember, it’s not easy it takes time, persevere and enjoy. (Aaron if you see this add this on ur next Ollie Tutorial)
Mark Micek I appreciate the advice cuz I am a beginner skater but I’ve heard that they make it harder to do it regularly without the trainers so I’m not gonna use them
i hate that i can tripple heelflip on grass but cant ollie up over a street curb
riga mortis thats a whole mood

skater trainers are a waste
Guys, I learned the Pop Shuvit about 2 months ago and I got one OP tip which helped me a lot. Try to lean forward over the edge of the board. That makes you jump forward so that the board will stay under you the whole time. That also helps overcoming your fear to land with both feet

Dude deadass there is a youtube channel name "luis mora" he makes skate vids lmao
@@teckniqqque how is that funny lol? and like luis mora has literally 1.17M subs, and most likely most of those people watch Braille
Failing over and over with these "most basic tricks" should be quite demotivating and may even look like the often quoted definition-of-insanity cliché. On top of this you always see/read how other people accomplish these with such an ease within the shortest amount of time possible. Makes you really question the choice of stepping on the board at times.
But if somethings finally lands it feels ridiculously great and makes you face the next thing with even more spur! Perseverance, a positive attitude and tutorials like this (+skating with other people if/whenever possible) are immensely helpful.
Anyway - cheers from GER and huge thanks for the update (the shove it part within the pop shove it chapter in SMS#1 didn't work out for me) and, most important, thank you for making 42yo me trying something new - even if it hurts a lot and makes me look like an old rolling duck with movement disorders most of the time! ... one which is having lots of fun!

@@evakowatch5762 are you doing the scoop right? Imagine your back foot is sorta doing a loose L shape (backwards L if you ride regular). Thank you Aaron, yall really out here giving me the confidence. nowadays I've heard and kinda seen the skate community gatekeep a bit cause a lot of people are becoming "posers" and call you a poser if u can't do tricks but yall put here givin me the confidence to try to get better instead of just quitting
Something I adopted for learning tricks is to practice while moving. I use to learn tricks stationary, but had huge problems adapting them in motion cuz my balance wasn't shifted the right way, and the board sometimes moved differently too.
I recommend one or two shots at the beginning of the trick performed in the world at the start of the vid. This shows it off and makes it look cool. Show where it can be done. Tricks just don't have the same effect while stationary infront of a blank wall.
I agree with the moving thing. I struggled to ollie and frontside while moving since i learned them by being still.
If you practice your tricks stationary with a straightish back and not staring at the ground to hard, it will make it a easier transition, at least I have only landed one Ollie while moving and it was because I wasn't staring at my feet making sure my board was attached 🤣
This video was brilliant. Please continue this style. The super slowmo really helps.
Your videos are great. I'm 31 and started skateboarding as my 5 year old wanted to start. It's been the best thing ever to do during this very challenging time.
Thanks a lot and keep it up 👍
I just picked up skating too at 38 my boy is 4 and wanted to start. I hope things are going well for you! I’m one week in and basically sore all the time from both the exercising and the falling.
This is so awesome. I love all of your tutorials. You really make me believe in myself again. I am 30 and just started skating again after 14 years. Thank you so much.

I’m so glad that you said not to make fun of them. But encourage them. I’m teaching my daughter who’s 14 how to skateboard and I’ve been taking her to my dental office parking lot to learn. We’ve been going everyday after work for a couple of weeks now, and I suggested that we go to a park. But she doesn’t want to. Wow!!!! Just watched this video last night and went to the skatepark this morning. I was landing shuvits back to back to back!! I had to stop being scared to land completely on the board and just go for it. The more you do it, the more confident you’ll get on landing it! I NEED VOL 1 NOW!!!
Love the Grip Art
These tutorials are the only videos I’ve watch the last week because I got my friend to ditch scooters and ride skateboards and thanks to these videos my friend have learnt how to Ollie in a week after constant practice every they had the opportunity to at school no matter if it was outside a lesson or after school at the local park
Aight thanks, I've been struggling with this for weeks 💀💀💀
I’ve been trying to get my shuv its down for a month. I watched the first half of this video and now I got them on lock!!! So grateful for this channel!!
Yesterday I was looking up this because I can’t keep the board under me
Jump forward and scoop the board a little forward so it doesn’t just pivot and make the front trucks go behind you. I’m bad at explaining sorry.

Every time I watch an instructional video from Aaron, I'm super hyped. It makes me want to go out and beat that irrational fear of doing tricks moving.
I just stopped skating because I was just feeling mad at myself since I have been skating for over a year now and I can barely ollie higher than 2 inches and evenly, but it’s really fun to watch other people skate
I feel like ive been watching you since i was a kid and you taught me everything i know about skateboarding
Me coming back home after strugling with the shove-it and seeing this in my recommendations: 😮😲
I really admire you, I'm from Colombia and I have 24 years old, I always wanted to skate but I never have the opportunity. I follow you sice a couple of years and finally I bought my first skate the last week and your videos are so helpful but I still feel terrify. Today I landed my first trick so, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!
Nigel's video taught me how to shove it. best tip he said to pop down and out, and his toe barely touches the ground.
Thank you Aaron. My brother watches your videos and we bought him a Skateboard he really liked it. Now he is trying to learn some tricks all thanks to you because he watches your videos to learn those tricks
Me, someone who can barely Ollie: “Interesting”
This is easier
Easier than ollies
I learnd to shuvit in 3 days!!Thank you
I'm so scared just about skateboarding stereotypes and when to start learning tricks and which tricks to learn but I'm still tryin
The part about keeping the front foot close to the board was very helpful. Also, the part about adjusting the position of your front foot helped me.
For your next vid you should teach us how to drop in without falling
have faith yung padowan
Bend your knees and focus on balance. Don’t even worry about your feet.
I’ve been skating for years but I’ve never attempted tricks, always just cruising.. going to finally try something new!
You should do worst board at the zoom meeting
That’s wack
I’ve only been skating for 4 months now and your videos have helped me Ollie so quickly
Ive nearly done the ollie i just needa drag my foot up more :)) and i learnt how to do the shuvit from this video tsm😊💞
Did you do it yet
These videos are awesome I like how you said help people don’t make fun of them that’s what it’s all about and having fun
I’ve landed a shuvit exactly 2 times, and now I can’t do it. Every time I do it my front foot is able to get one the board, but my back foot goes under it. I can’t spin the board and lift my foot up for some reason. When I try I accidentally pop the board and it goes sliding out from under me. Anybody have any tips? I really need help.
the back foot for some reason just never lands on the board its very frustrating
For me I put more of like a faith thing into it like I make myself believe I can do it
Keep your shoulders straight best tip
try to get in front of the board with the back foot, not even on it but just not behind it and with more and more tries you can get that confidence
Fk same for me
I really appreciate these videos I’m learning to skate at 21, my friend showed me and Ollie and I was able to copy it without much issue so I bought myself a board and I’ve been working on consistently landing clean ollies and balancing manuals in place and cruising and trying to do it for a bit. Looking forward to learning the shuvit
I tried to shuv it this slow and it didn’t work. Anyway, can we get Troy vs Aussie? K. Thanks.
I unintentionally did a shuvit when jabbering with my friend at the skatepark. The next day, I tried so hard to land another one and I couldn't do it, so I came here. Thanks for inspiring me Aaron! I'ma work on this more next time I'm at the skatepark.
I grew up skating rough-ish ground so i always had to pop my tricks so i never properly learned shuvs and only pop-shuvs, idk if thats a bad thing
you can do no-pop shuvs on rough ground, just scoop more down and less back
Its not bad dont worry!
finally landed my shuvit on my 5th time ever being on my board, all because of your videos. thank you 🙏🏼
This was my first trick and it's super easy, it feels even easier and cleaner doing a higher pop shove it
Most people in the skate community are encouraging no matter what skill level you are. Most of us truly only care about being aware of others and their lines. Skatepark courtesy 101 and then it's all love 🙏
0:12 any one else say his line with him?also great video 👌🏼
I like the way you normalize slams and say they're really not that bad. I'm just learning and I tend to have one slam each day, and because I'm fully padded up, so far none of them hurt. It's the fear of slamming which holds me back, not the actual slams themselves.
As a teen named Aaron learning how to skate Aaron is my idol😂
Skating really is like 60% mind and courage. I used to always have mental barriers where I just couldn't get myself to place my left foot back on the board after attempting my first ollies and shove its. It's a lot better now and it's such a relieving experience finally being able to get over that barrier. Even when you're slamming your board on your feet and ankles you'll just be happy to have made mental progress. And I don't even wear shoes that cover my ankles lol
i swear i just learned this trick before this video about like 10 minutes ago 😂
Watched this for 5 mins then landed it half an hour’s worth of practice later. Aaron you’re amazing, thank you.
I feel shovits are so hard I learned to frount 180 before and the still can’t shov

U could probably shuvit more easily than ollies unlike me
Just don't give up I could finally get my Ollie's just last week! And I'm so stoked after hours and days I thought I would never but I finally got it
I started skating 3 years ago, what I’ve found is that it all clicks in suddenly, one day after learning and trying again and again you’ll be able to Ollie, or shove it or whatever trick you’re trying. And then next time it’ll come to you faster and faster until you can do it every time :)
Hey don’t give up buddy. It takes time to learn. You can get stuff like skater trainers to help you learn. And watch all the Ollie tutorials. Aaron also doesn’t mention one practice step. When you step on the tail, put your front foot in the sliding position but don’t slide. That step really helped me. Also just focus on the front of your body.
Also something that really helped me when I was learning for the first time probably late 1980s:
If you are new to ollies- let me suggest something that you will love forever. Ollie over sewer caps/manhole covers. Trust me it is an excellent “drill,” gives you a great feeling of accomplishment, and you won’t die learning it. You obviously have to get a little speed to clear them…but the beauty is that if you DO NOT clear it, you will land partially on the manhole cover, and ride away 99% of the time. This is a great way to learn speed for ollies over bigger gaps. lol the ONE TIME I actually wiped out bad on a manhole cover in more recent memory- I was cruising down the street with a friend who ran up some steps and cave-manned back down and missed…I pointed at him and laughed…then immediately went to Ollie a manhole cover and actually caught my wheel in the ONE little hole that they use to open the cover. We both laughed even harder at the obvious irony.
