I've had a prebuilt for almost 2 years because I was terrified of messing something up building a pc, but after watching your videos I realized it's pretty easy to work with computers as long as you're not reckless about it. I'm very much looking forward to the time when I finally replace my pc, because I'm going to do it right and build it this time.

@@Piyesgi Most IO shields will have tiny clips that hold it on the case. Since there are so many, it is really hard to get them all bent in without damaging them. I have been able to take out an IO shield so I could move the motherboard to a new case, however it is extremely difficult. I probably bent a few clips, however I was able to get it in the new case.

I'm glad you still do videos like these. It makes transitioning into the building world for new comers a lot easier. Part of what made your channel a go-to for me when I first started was that you not only talked about what to do but also ran over all the parts and detailed component stuff I didn't know at the time. Like I would have had no idea what a GPU or a heat sink was when I started and it made how-to videos difficult to follow.
So yeah, I'm still glad and grateful you keep doing videos like this. And on the flip side, even if most of your audience already knows how to do this or what these parts are, you always include helpful tips that even season builders could get use from in the future!

Thanks Jay! I found this a little later in my disassembly but it's still very helpful. I got into PC super late and ended up going with a very high end prebuilt with a 3090 and 5950x. So as you can imagine, this tear down has been terribly scary as a first experience. I realize I had an underspec CPU cooler so I got a 360 aio, but due to the case and circumstances, I've essentially had to take EVERYTHING apart. It's still lying on the table at home, half dissassembled as I wait on the replacement cpu mount and backplate cyberpower never sent to me with the rest of the OEM parts, but I'm using the time in the interim to continue researching. Also, I wanted to give you a massive shout-out, I never would have made the jump from console to PC without the confidence I've gained watching your videos for the last few years. Thanks again Jay! It took quite a while given the unfavorable situation, but I was able to get my aio on, and keep all of the old fans in the chassis along with the new ones for the 360 rad! It's beautiful and runs oh so cool now! I ended up having to COMPLETELY take everything apart. The experience was taxing but so worthwhile. I feel much more confident with the intricacies of the hardware and making changes myself now. I honestly feel like the build looks a great deal better than how it shipped. I even invested the time into Signal RGB to sync all my peripherals and internal RGB. It's a beautiful beast that oughta be around for many years to come now, thanks for the reply, I hope you enjoy the mods you'll be making as well!

Four things not covered in this wonderful guide that I feel needed to be reiterated--and most people overlook:
    1) It is just as important to GROUND yourself when disassembling a computer as it is when building one! Shorting compents leads to troubleshooting headaches or a trip to Geek Squad you could have avoided.
    2) Sometimes capacitors, chokes, and chipsets can maintain a fair amount of charge and/or heat even hours after unplugging the PC. After you unplug the power cable from the wall & power supply, press the power button once (or twice if you have OCD) to release some potential energy built up. But even after beware touching some bare components on the motherboard as heat on bare skin is not the best of feelings. Also due note that modems (if you're old enough to remember them) and network cards still plugged in can carry charge through the PCB. It's not always "dangerous" but it can sure 'put a spark in your day' if you're not expecting it!
    3) Don't assume your "durable", "rugged" or "military grade" components can withstand any and everything you throw at it. They have some durability, yes, but they are not unbreakable! They are also no more immune to static or kinetic energies than the guide book says. You're components aern't made of glass either, some care should be taken when handling but bubble wrapping your hands is not required.
    4) READ THE MANUAL! and then read it again! Also, ask questions or google before assuming!

    1. Find a sledge hammer.

    3. Swing sledge hammer at problem.
    4. Repeat 3 until satisfied with result.

I think this was a wonderful video, Jay.
As somehow who considers myself rather tech savy and has built my last three PCs myself, I think any kind of informative video, no matter the knowledge level of the target audience, is valuable contribution. It's not just about content for those of us who subscribes, it's also about finding new viewers, and above all help those that do not know this stuff and who stumble across these videos by information searching.

My first new computer was an OEM computer from HP my folks bought at Walmart. I practically destroyed the computer trying to figure out how to remove parts in order to find out what parts I needed in order to upgrade them. I didn't have access to the internet at the time, and if I did, it wouldn't have been much use as it was pre-UA-cam and tech forums/webistes weren't as robust or common as they are now.
I learned a lot from that computer.

The opposite of "build" normally is "demolish". Quite often though, the word "build" is used (quite inappropriately I might say) instead of the correct "assemble". So in this case, the word you are looking for is: "disassemble". In any case there is no such term as "un-build"; that sounds like something from 1984, where language is already almost dead XD

Cannot explain how much this video helped me, I know absolutely nothing about building (or in this case un-building) PC's. I bought a pre-built 1-2 years ago and it has some pretty nice specs, but the case is awful, makes it hard to upgrade anything within the pc itself. I recently bought an H7 Flow from NZXT to move my parts into but needed help with taking everything apart, took me 2 minutes to find this video, and now I know what I need. Now the scary part, actually doing it 😟
