THIS EPISODE
After a perfect parkup in our campervan Harry we spend a day drifting and cruising. An interesting visit to a German Battery at Caqueret where an historic location is covered in modern art - what do you think - we actually liked it in this instance. We then have several failed parkup targets and Harry had a few narrow misses as we navigate French back lanes. We finally find another great coastal parkup where we simply soak up the day

The red and white marker is a GR (Grande Randonnée) sign. It's France's national trail system. It's stretch for over 60000km in the country and links to the equivalent systems in Belgium and Spain. There many different such systems in France, this one is for hiking trails.
Wow I need to look into that more - thanks for explaining and watching
Some lovely scenery around Cherbourg. That lighthouse was very impressive. Don’t blame you for not climbing up all those steps 😂
We just didn’t have the energy so it was a travelling day - we saw a couple of lighthouses that were similar in design I have to say they looked pretty impressive
Thanks for watching
Playing catch up after a few days away. Another good one that we enjoyed with our afternoon coffee. This trip has been really enjoyable for us to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it - don’t worry never enough time lol
Sometimes park ups don’t work out, despite all the efforts we make to get there. 😊 The art on the battery wasn’t my cup of tea, but we all see things differently ☺️ Some of those roads were tight! Lovely video, Em 💜
Thanks for watching - the end park up was just great and a few rejections on the way lol
What another cool episode!!, especially the narrow roads are always fun to drive👌
Yes we seem to attract narrow roads 😂
Thanks for watching
Just wanted to say 'thank you' for another enjoyable vlog. We always enjoy you two. You seem to have been pretty lucky with the weather during your trip. Looking forward to the next one !
Thanks for watching - in general the weather was great and when it’s sunny these places ‘pop’ with colour
I think Chris would have climbed the steps if the light house. I was breathing in when you took poor Harry down that narrow lane to the beach 🏖️ Phew 🇫🇷🚐❤️🍾 xxx
Thanks for watching - we both felt a little jaded so 300 or so steps would of finished us off lol - yes it was one of the narrowest bee had been down and thankfully we didn’t meet anyone
Hi, the red and white markers are for a hiking trail 😊
An thank you makes sense wondered what they were
Thanks for watching
Yes. We get parkup paranoia too!!!!! And panicking going down a narrow road and hoping you can turn around at the end to get out again!!!!
Worth it in the end though!
Thanks for sharing
Ju
😁
Thanks for watching - as you say normally the best spots
Really not sure. The art's very good but... As for that track. That was definitely what we call "a Getaway Geese" road. Jane I'd have been with you on that one. Always taking sharp intakes of breath on narrow roads 🤔😁🐕🚙
lol I guess the concrete bunkers weren’t there before 1940 so you could argue they are spoiling the landscape - interesting view
Yes we seem to attract narrow roads lol
Thanks for watching
I have a thing about lighthouses. So it was very nice to see this one. Wow 3rd tallest! Don’t blame you not doing it. Quite like some graffiti if it’s done well. Did look rather narrow. At least there was no decision about which side of the road to drive on to be made🤣. It can be stressful parking in a place where you know you have to get back out. It can spoil your time there. Road to Cherbourg was lovely. Thanks for sharing ❤️😊👍
Thanks for watching - the lighthouse had that sleek look and we saw a similar one in the next episode
It was the narrowest we had been down - fortunately never met anyone
Thanks for watching
The red & white markers, as others have said, are long distance hiking trails in Europe. Known as Gran Recorrido in Spain and the Canaries, we have a long distance route, the GR131 that crosses all of the main Canary Islands so that you can hop from island to island as you follow the route.
Wow so it’s an international hike marker - very interesting - thanks for watching and commenting
Great video and fantastic drone footage.
Thank you for watching
If you get the chance. To go Cherbourg again, by the cruise terminal there is a decommissioned French nuclear submarine you can look at in the maritime museum
Oh wow would love that thanks I am sure at some stage we will be that way again - thanks for watching
Thank you both loved the vlog around that area really nice . Those roads were narrow you are a Braver man than me . Just wondering do you have an over arch water tank and how do you sanitise it before you travel. Well done both and good luck 👍👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
Yes that one location just got narrower I must admit
We have two 40 litre underslung tanks one fresh and one grey we just happen to fill it from inside the drivers door
Well I do love a lighthouse so that was great to see. I couldn't live without the fridge and freezer in my little camper, but with Coeliac Disease it's not so easy to just go to a shop and get stuff. I didn't have bread for 4 days on this trip because I was somewhere that only had one food shop, and gluten free stuff wasn't on the shelves. Beautiful views with the drone, the sea was a gorgeous colour. Those roads were tight, I'd have been frantic even in my little campervan! I bet you both had right clenched buttocks 😂
Yes I can imagine in remote spots that’s a challenge - with Jane’s allergies she also takes various things you just can’t get in the road
I think Jane was more stressed that mean on that occasion which is unusual lol 😂
It is a mighty tall lighthouse visible from a long way off shore when your sailing. I have been using my onboard tank throughout my Scandinavia trip and I also have a 5L plastic collapsible water container which I place on the inside fold up flap.
Definitely a significant landscape marker - we saw another in next week’s video
Yep we have just bought a smaller 5l one which worked well on the last trip
Thanks for watching hope you are well on your trip
Hiya, another interesting vlog!nTa!
wondering if you’d considered going over to Guernsey & Jersey with your van - from France? Seems you were close! & Any reason you didn’t go into Cherbourg?
Thanks for watching … no reason really other than running out of time and we were starting to flip with energy so just needed a place to chill out in the van
Guernsey is probably your small and not sure of wild camping opportunities / not sure about Jersey ad never been there - do many places to see once you get out there
Thanks for watching
You are going the other way when you go out LOL.
In Scotland I don' trust P4Night.
We often have a game of cards pr other competitive pastime of an evening. Cannot come home until I win LOL
Yep park4night is not an isolated app you then need to do research so agree
If we stayed out till we won we would never get home 😂
Sorry what do you mean the ‘other way’ when we go out lol 😂
@@getawaygeese Well you went in one direction and out the opposite direction. Might be the same road but you are going the other way. 🤣🤣
Ah yes I see that’s my life lol 😂
Mixed opinions about the artwork, Tricia likes it, I don't. I prefer to leave these things as is, as a respectful reminder for those who died.
Thanks for watching - it challenged us but I appreciated the art in the landscape whilst the history I guess was still there as you could argue the bunkers weren’t there before 1940 - interesting debate
Stu needs to get oh, F**kit and just relax, but then what would he have to rant about on the life of Stu.
lol yes my nemesis is truly relaxing
Thanks for watching
@@getawaygeese Always will, thanks for taking the time to come to New Zealand, would have love to meet you both.
@kiwihib loved NZ you never know lottery win and we’re back 😂
@@getawaygeese A lottery win I will on your Island to see Stranraer win the bottom division in Scotland.
Have stopped in that very spot twice ( the camping across the road was full!) and walked to the lighthouse. Fantastic views from the top, if not much room...
Barfleur is a lovely little town to stay for a few days. Camping Montana ( no, don't know why it's called that) a kilometer from town, and there is a free Aire field a few hundred metres from edge of town.
