Exactly!!! Like advocating freedom of speech to express yourself there in that video with an oppressive symbol is allowed, agreeable, and understandable, but not for this instance discussed in this video? You can hide behind an old flag and the support that you know you'd get from other like-minded alongside you, but what Colin Kaepernick did was brave because it was new and highly relevant. And though being widely supported wasn't guaranteed, he didn't let this stop him from expressing his truths and using this as a platform to create space for a new discussion. "Democracy is hypocrisy (Malcolm X)." Still true to this day. The difference between this video from the one about the confederate flag is that the students advocating for it don't have a strong connection or belief in it, but the kneeling to Kaepernick had meant so much more to him, making it that much more powerful. ua-cam.com/video/qNfAFfu6VD0/v-deo.html (quick 1 minute video if you don't understand the quote)

@Fjj veterans fought for our right to be able to protest against america, it's not disrespecting them at all. if people aren't allowed to speak their mind fully, even if it is critical of the u.s, why have a free country? veterans fought for us to speak our minds and doing that is not disrespectful
@Fjj "your people"? Don't say that it sounds derogatory and belittling and you know it. Be respectful and say African American or just American because you'll don't call yourself European American. Also, American patriotism started slavery in the first place... what do you want us to say, "thank you." America has a lot to work on especially with racial issues.
Fjj the south is apart of america and american culture. Also slavery was all over America and American Territories starting with the 13 colonies when America was still under British rule.
@Fjj I dont know why you keep arguing that this form of protest disrespects the military and its veterans. Kaepernick got a lot of support from military personnel not because they agreed with his messages necessarily, but because they respect his right to protest. In fact, as others have pointed out, the kneeling element was a suggestion by a veteran, since taking a knee is something that is done in the military. You've also tried to separate history for some reason as if slavery, segregation, and the overall bigotry experienced by black Americans is somehow the fault of the south. America is one country with one history - you don't see Germany not taking responsibility for nazis or trying to argue that that was just Hitler and not Germany itself. You're allowed to love the US and be patriotic, but people who recognize an issue within a country and try to bring attention to it and change it are just as patriotic and you should not fault them for their actions. The constitution may have been written over 300 years ago, but its only been in the last 50 years that black people have seen some sort of equality in America. And even then, it hasn't been great. So just because he's protesting and people are agreeing with it does not make them ungrateful or unAmerican or automatically mean that they don't recognize the sacrifices of the military

Secondly, Nate Boyer a former teammate of Kaepernick’s, who was also decorated Army Green Beret before joining the NFL made the suggestion to Kaepernick to kneel. He explained that when he lost a soldier during his deployments, him and other soldiers would kneel to honor his sacrifice. So when Kaepernick kneeled, it was a sign of respect to those who poured blood sweat and tears for this country while also defending his personal beliefs
Pocket gools, a little info on the topic is that he was originally sitting, and then a veteran came up and explained that sitting was disrespecting the soldiers, and that they kneel if a soldier dies, so they kneel to respect them, that’s what Colin did, he didn’t disrespect veterans/soldiers in any way, he chose to listen to the vet to respect the soldiers.

If they're being mistreated, why are you more concerned about the way they choose to bring awareness to it? If this happened in my country, I would never, ever, stand there and say "how dare you disrespect my country by bringing up its flaws!". THE FLAWS ARE THERE. It's better to recognise them and collectively work to fix them, rather than completely dismissing it. I'd ten times out of ten "disrespect" my country if my country was mistreating their population. No matter what. I care more about people being treated fairly and equally than some random colour on a piece of cloth or a national anthem. To care more about a flag and national anthem than the fair treatment of citizens just really shows someone's true colours.
There is a strong sense of patriotism amongst many Americans, despite real issues that affect many people. It’s interesting to hear this pointed out by someone European. I agree with you.
It's because it's not really about the flag or the respect of America. It's about these people not liking the protest being brought to their faces when they watch football. If these guys really cared about "respecting America" they wouldn't be flying confederate flags since that goes against the current state of America and it's a traitorous flag.
"If he doesn't like it here then he can just leave" my god the ignorance of some people never seizes to amaze me. And the kid right behind him sitting there nodding his head agreeing with him😭😭
they only did it because they realized racism wasn't profitable anymore. don't buy into the NFL's bs. what Kapernick did was morally just, and an act of good faith. what the NFL did was the opposite. they did it to win goody-goody points from POC and the Black community in America.
“If you don’t like it , leave” why is this a valid argument that people use ??? We need to recognize that America has flaws . We need to fix those flaws and better ourselves. We’re allowed to have opinions that oppose some of America’s ideals . That’s protected under our first amendment right.
It is a terrible argument, there's nothing wrong with trying to make things better. He has the right to kneel, the NHL has the right to fire him for being disrespectful although I there would need to be warnings issued. The Black Lives Matter debate is a whole different issue...
"If he doesn't like America he can just leave." 1. It's not easy to leave the USA and get legal citizenship somewhere else 2. That's essentially saying "If you don't agree with racism, you should just leave."
Where is racism in this? Black people have this skewed perception that if no one agrees with them, you're automatically racist. Use your brain for once, there are 52 cards in the deck, stop using the race one.

He said "The Confederate Flag Debate has 36,000 views". Well, it's at 3.3 million views now and still growing. They should do some sort of "where are they now" with some of these kids now and see how they feel about the issues now that they've gotten a little bit older. This is filmed in '16 from my understanding so now in 2021 I'm curious what's their view point on the same topics.

As a European, I find it incredibly odd how patriotic Americans can be. And it's clearly shown in the beginning of this video, where the main arguments against Kaepernick are "well although he is trying to raise awareness of the treatment of PoC in the US, he shouldn't disrespect our nation," which I don't think would happen as much in Europe. The fair treatment of people should never be silenced because it may "disrespect" the nation.
I just find it so American to use that as an argument. That you shouldn't stand up for the mistreatment of a social group because it disrespects the flag or whatever.
American patriotism is corny af
It's because it's not really about the flag or the respect of America. It's about these people not liking the protest being brought to their faces when they watch football. "If he doesn't like America he can just leave."
1. It's not easy to leave the USA and get legal citizenship somewhere else
2. That's essentially saying "If you don't agree with racism, you should just leave."
Where is racism in this? Black people have this skewed perception that if no one agrees with them, you're automatically racist.
Use your brain for once, there are 52 cards in the deck, stop using the race one.
"if you dont like what kapernick is saying, stop watching football"
@@anthonyc2072 That's not what I'm saying. Kaepernick was kneeling because he's protesting racism in America, ie he doesn't want to stand for a country he doesn't agree with. I wasn't saying the kid was racist because I didn't agree with him dumb ass bitch.
@@RJ-he2ns
Yet you still can't show where you got your racism from.
Nowhere does it indicate that the kid is racist for what he said. He's just as entitled to his opinion as Kap is.
@@anthonyc2072 Did you even read my comment? I never said he was racist. In fact, I said he wasn't racist.
I have a lot of respect for Mr Mohammed! You are genuinely doing a great service to these kids by hosting a conversation with these kids. They are learning more then the topic here. I was ruling on the fb comment! I've been involved in fb convos where adults weren't able to have a real discussion on this very topic. These kids are learning that sensitive topics can be talked about without destroy relationships. We don't have to agree to be friends!
I SEE CHRISTOPHER BUT HE NOT SAYING NOTHING. He must’ve ate to much greens at the cookout.
Eian2K 😂😂
ikr if they do another one i hope he’s up for speaking some more. he makes great points backed up with facts
I feel like he's shy about speaking up this time. He didn't have the same passion that he had before. The teacher seems to like to make a joke our of him, but you could already tell from the confederate flag video that his classmates don't respect him. I feel like he probably got bullied at school when the cameras were of and didn't want to draw attention to himself.
@@sumchick345 righttt it makes me sad when the kids laugh cause one hes the most educated
TwisterCuber bless ur beautiful soul ✨🧚🏾♀️
The exact same guys who said “the confederate flag may offend people but they just have to deal with it” are also saying “kneeling may offend people so you should not protest that way”.Very hypocritical.
Nobody said he can’t do it they said he can do it but it’s disrespectful, same can be said about confederate flag.
Alpha Scorpii Rewatch the video, one of them literally said “you shouldn’t protest the national anthem”
Lilcrust shouldn’t is a key word. Like how they said you shouldn’t wave a confederate flag. Shouldn’t doesn’t mean you can’t. They said you are allowed to within the 1A but it’s a shitty thing to do, like what these beta males like Chris said in the confederate flag debate
Alpha Scorpii how is protesting the national anthem a shitty thing to do?Also you sound like the only beta male here, don’t disrespect the man Chris
Alpha Scorpii Also no,shouldn’t “should not” literally means you can’t do it under any circumstances.
not me pausing the video to argue with the racists as if i’m actually there
Thought I was the only one
Same bruh😂😂
In my head im having a reaction video😂
You guys just call anyone a racist now
"rAsIsTs"
He said "The Confederate Flag Debate has 36,000 views". Well, it's at 3.3 million views now and still growing. They should do some sort of "where are they now" with some of these kids now and see how they feel about the issues now that they've gotten a little bit older. This is filmed in '16 from my understanding so now in 2021 I'm curious what's their view point on the same topics.
Half these kids have literally zero idea what they’re talking about
Not so. Kids are intelligent. I hear you though. As a youth, I didn't know a lot about outside of my small world. What I like is the civility. Try this debate with adults and see how civil that is. It's good to hear fresh perspective and provoke constructive thought and dialog. These will be our leaders soon. Kuddos to the teacher for actually teaching 🙌
@@lilahumphrlm990 Great answer.
@@lilahumphrlm990 Yes - exactly. I remember, although bring somewhat woke, being always in my head and not conscious enough of the bigger picture. These kids and their minds still are yet to be molded.
@@MikeGrahamDSM I think of a time when how to fix my hair for school was the dilemma; meanwhile, teens my age were being tortured, electrocuted and killed in Africa due to the apartheid. I was so clueless. When I found out about it on my adulthood, I wept. I thought, my gosh, where was I in my life that I didn't know about this? Teachers didn't have the bravery to discuss those real issues. Honestly, a lot of my teachers were prejudiced. I'm Latina, I dated a black kid in school. The principal called me and him into his office individually to tell us to stop dating and forbade us to go to prom together. We were seniors. Class of 86. Again, kudos to the teach!
Yep... and they are just kids though. But what they're saying it just straight up sad
The kid says “money talks more than his protest” clearly has never seen pictures from the civil rights movement, the freedom riders sitting at the lunch counter, & rosa parks sitting at the front of the bus. I guess they were making it all about themselves & they should of just donated money to the civil rights movement instead of protesting peacefully & taking a stand for what they felt was & is right. Read a book kid!
And Kaepernick has put up more than a million dollars of his own money to support social causes
That was many years ago and America has since changed, A LOT. Money controls just about everything these days, if you don't agree with that you are ignorant.
@kk.o How are they supposed to do that when WHITE people down grade them and deny them jobs, also leaving them with low-income neighborhoods.
@@rold000 you're literally missing the whole point of that original comment
@@Dev-zd3rx How? The comment was about how the kid said that "money talks more than his protest" and I told them that that worked a long time ago, but now money is how you sway peoples choices and get what you want to happen. I think you should read everything before commenting maybe lmao
"iF hE DOEsn'T lIKe it hE cAN juST LEave" At that precise moment, I laughed in unison with the kid in the back.
Dude Christopher is such an icon. It's been 5 years, I wonder what amazing things he's up to now
