Ian Anderson on lead vocals and flute is the only member of the band that is not a classically trained musician However he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate (Doctor of Letters) from Abertay University in July 2011 . He is self taught on the flute. In fact he only started playing the flute a few months before recording their first album. He is a multi-instrumentalist who also plays harmonica, keyboard, bass guitar, bouzouki, balalaika, saxophone and a variety of whistles. With studio , compilation and extended play albums the group has 55 albums. From 1968 to 2023. Ian was still touring in 2024.at the age of 77.
Especially for the first time listener, the video pulls them out of the musical experience. Not always the case, for example, _Zombie_ by The Cranberries is enhanced - probably in part because the singer is part of the video.
While Tull is famous for the flute they have done some really great tracks that do not use the flute. This song is about the different way that a homeless person is perceived - 1 by society in general is not favourable, another more personal view is kinder, and the different musical styles indicate these views. The video is a new addition, I believe it was created by a fan and has been officially adopted - I don't get it, and think it detracts from the message of the song.
I can see that that you r popular, back in the day from oz, there was a band that had two great guitarists, from the early 80's, can you try The Church Disappear
Hi Jone. I like your vids. I just want to say, on this one, I hate the video that accompanies the song It has nothing to do with the song and to me is a distraction from really absorbing the music. For first listens, I would do just that and listen. Not watch someones artsy fartsy interpretation of the music...
Jethro Tull earlier tracks have better balance -Later on it became Ian Anderson back up band for him to perform in front of. Way to much FLUTE after "Thick as a Brick " . LOVE their earlier albums
Visually very nice video. Contentwise, not so much. Adds nothing to me, just confuses. Allways nice when you react to JT! My favourite band for like 40 years . JT and Rush, and Genesis, and Pink Floyd, and...
This song (album) introduced me to prog-rock, it was a mind-blowing experience. BTW, I didn't like this music video at all! It was kind of misleading, I would say.

Never get finished with this song. I've seen/heard them four times through the years. My favourite band.

If you want to talk "Prog," you have to put Tull near the top of the genre.
