Actually , it's true. Imagine you going to a distant country with different dish, like way different. You have to eat(your local dish) something before getting used to the new one or he/she could get health issues
As a veteran traveler I can confirm these tips are spot-on. Overpacking is all too easy to do, and it can ruin a trip. I’ll add one tip for beach/cruise vacations: if you’re going to spend your days by the pool or on a beach put on your beachwear first thing, and save “real” clothes for dinner. Since you’ll only have worn them a few hours, you can wear them the next day as beach/pool coverups. You can pretty much cut your clothing needs in half this way. Also, for the price of a checked suitcase you can pay the hotel to do a load of laundry.
The airlines tickets that are included with Viking cruises have one checked bag included. Laundry on the river cruises is not included unless you are in an expensive suite. Costs were quite expensive. So carry on only or taking a checked bag really depends on what you are doing. I am going on a luxury Iceland cruise next summer followed by a bus tour of Ireland. I'm seriously trying to decide how to have a month's worth of clothing with minimal laundry service and only a small bag.
My husband and I just did carryon only for an Alaskan cruise. Was so nice when on the way home our flight was delayed until the next day. We had all our stuff with us and immediately left the airport for a hotel.
Travel professional here (in fact a travel agent for over 25 years) & this was a great video (apart from putting meds into zip lock bags. As prescription meds must ALWAYS be kept in their original packet/box & you must carry your prescription with you..sorry.!) but ONE THING was missing..... Do NOT, under any circumstances use flash, expensive designer luggage! (LV is fine if your going by private jet!) This is just advertising yourself to thieves, like wearing jewellery, real or fake. Choose a good mid size hard shell case that is sturdy & strong. Wear an obviously plastic watch (my travel watch is rubber & cost £8) & leave ALL jewellery at home. Finally I have a valuable saying.... If you can't aford to loose it. DON'T take it with you!! Happy travels all & fare ye well on swift wings x (olde English saying for good luck on your travels)
@@susie9893 Very wise & thank you! I recently had a customer who had left a precious cardigan (her late mum had knitted it) in a hotel in Tenerife & she was absolutely distraught, but TUI (who I had booked her with) could do nothing & she never got it back. Never take anything that you can not afford to loose. Happy travels x
@@VictoriaHarrison-qe3qw yeah, mostly I would say don't take anything of sentimental value. But if the only time you're gonna is that thing is on a trip then I say definitely take it - gift or whatever it is should be used as intended, not kept in a shrine (so to speak)
When we were in Rome, my husband was surrounded by a bunch of kids trying to pick pocket him. So I second not bringing a lot of cash! Rome is lovely, you just need to be cautious
I use a collapsible silicone water bottle. I love it. I avoid using single use plastics so put all my charging cords in one of my old eyeglass cases. I don’t carry a wallet. If I need a physical credit card, it slips into the back of my RFID phone case. I can slip some cash in there too. My phone is on a lanyard that goes around my neck and under my shirt. We almost always travel carry on only but as someone who moved often and has a kid living abroad, I learned not judge those with giant suitcases. Those people may be moving their entire household in those suitcases (and that’s pretty damn good). I don’t need eSIMs either. We have the TMobile plan with international data included. No more paying extra when we travel. I use laundry sheets to wash my clothing while traveling. I plan and pack mix and match outfits. I don’t wear jewelry. I wear a silicone wedding band (I’m a weightlifter). The good stuff stays home. If I’m staying somewhere more than week, I will buy toiletries there.
Carry on causes it's own set of problems and airlines are cracking down. It is hard NOT to jidge those whose carry on cases really are too big and we spend extra time sitting at the gate waiting while people find spaces for their luggage and the attendants are playing Jenga. Sometimes it causes delays in the take off line up and we all could have used that time to go collect checked bags.
@@janetfalconer2341it is protection so that your credit and debit card info cannot be gathered by someone near you with a scanner. Most travel wallets and passport wallets now have that feature
Big yes to small pouches or ziplocs!! I am always curious about why (or how) those chunky toiletry bags from Amazon that everyone seems to hawk are remotely easy to pack. Smaller ones are far easier to tuck in corners, etc. I used to be a chronic overpacker, but I’ve come around! That said, committing to 2 pairs of shoes is still a big challenge for me! 😝
On one trip a fellow traveller had some good quality black laced walking shoes that looked like dress shoes. She had 3 or 4 different coloured shoelaces that she used to change them up for evening wear
Maybe consider making your third pair some dressy foldable flats. I actually did a 7 week trip to Canada last Christmas carryon only (with several domestic flights) by wearing my snowshoes and carrying 1 pair foldable flats as my second pair of shoes. Worked like a dream. However, I concede the challenge of limiting to 3 pairs on a multi climate trip 😱
If travelling overseas DONT decant your meds into zip lock bags ,customs might hold you up while getting pills tested, keep them in original pharmacy packet with your name and the name of your medication on the packet
Also, we travel extensively throughout Europe and the rest of the world during rainy seasons as well. A small collapsible umbrella is very handy, and it doesn’t take much room.
Her comments are absolutely right, for the first time in my adult life, my spouse and I traveled for two weeks overseas with each just a 21in international carry on size bag No water bottles, no ‘what-ifs’, no multiples of shoes, bare basics of toiletries, no books or magazines, It was life-changing! So easy to get around, so easy to pack up each morning, and much less stress than managing a lot of ‘stuff’ I did make a mistake bringing a tote bag as my ‘personal item’ that was too bulky, next time I will whittle that down to a crossbody purse Can’t wait to travel again with these new rules, makes preparing harder but makes the actual trip easier!
Yep, that's how you've gotta do it sometimes! Trial and error until you figure out what works best for you. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I'm glad you liked it!
I lived and worked overseas for over 40 years as an Engineer. My wife and I never packed any shampoos, soaps lotions etc. When we reached our destination we would just go to the local drug or grocery store to buy whatever we needed. Many times we would find some of the same brands we were familiar with and other time is was fun just trying out new products. That's all part of the travel experience.
This only works if you're not catching more flights within the trip. I almost never not do that these days when I travel (considering how much cheaper domestic flights have become vs rail)
When I travel for business I always pack a nice evening outfit, nothing too much, but I've been invited to events and the outfit (usually just a nice dress) was really useful to have! 😊
Yes, it's great for a nice dinner out, too. There's definitely ways to bring nice evening outfits without bringing anything too fancy. Thanks for sharing!
Haven’t needed to check a bag for 24 years. Carry-on is the way to go if we don’t want to lug around the kitchen sink. All these tips are spot on. You clearly know your travel. Thx. 👏
Informative content. Note not all phones are esim compatible, even those mid range phones just released. What I do is find a local provider and go to the outlet nearest my hotel on day 1 to get a plan and simcard. In EU it's only about 15-20 euros for a plan that will give me a phone number and enough data for a 3 week trip.
I’m going to offer some advice for hot, sunny areas. Don’t pack a lot of black or dark clothing if you’re traveling to hot and sunny locations. As someone born and raised in Florida, you don’t want to be roaming around a theme park in June/July/August wearing black. Choose lighter colors.
You can get very comfortable khaki pants and light or bright colored shirts that are comfortable and hold up well in the heat. I love black but I don't wear it outside in Florida summer.
@@tiffprendergast7yes exactly, it' is disgusting. It's red Hot and she said that we should wear black, basically dress down instead of up.. she's one crazy lady,I see these people and they do stand out more cos I will say look same clothes again and it's a joke,if the 3 of us notice then everyone else will and we don't take extra than 10 kg carry on and then a hand bag or my dad will take a man's Cross body bag. We have clean on each day for up to 11 nights holidays.
Simple solution, don't travel to hot climates in summer. A friend and I vowed not to do this again and have kept to it for a couple of decades now. So not necessary
Some people need to figure these things out themselves :) Thanks for watching! Please remember to like this video and subscribe to the channel so UA-cam will recommend this video to other travelers like you.
Every travel influencer talks about carry-on only. Have you noticed that each one of these influencers are a “small”. That’s easy to pack in a carry-on bag. If you are a large or bigger, then there is no way you can fit the same number of clothes that is being packed as shown.
I’m 5’8” and weigh over 200 lbs. I’ve recently lost weight, but I’ve been traveling carry-on only since 2019 - twice to Europe, 2 cruises. All trips 7-10 days. Last summer I was at my highest weight (250) and spent 10 days in Europe. I’ve gotten rid of all my large luggage, and love not having to wait for or worry about checked bags. And yes, I brought back souvenirs on both trips to Europe. It takes planning, but it’s definitely doable.
My husband is 6'4" and well over 200#. He travels in a carry on only. I get frequent feedback from plus sized people that they can't do it. Of course you can. You just have to have more of a capsule wardrobe. It's making excuses. Of course you might have to do it slightly differently, but it's still possible.
I am going to respectfully give an alternative opinion. I don’t travel often and don’t go out a lot a home so my yearly holiday is my time to shine! 😀I enjoy dressing up for nice dinners and shows and don’t want to wear the same thing every day or dull monochrome outfits. I also recommend bringing small bills of cash for tips. ATM’s charge hefty fees for cash withdrawals and many credit cards charge an exchange fee for purchases made in a different currency. (Some travel cards do not)
I agree. On vacation , I want to have options and a choice , about what to wear. You never know what might happen or how the weather will change. Carry on wouldn't work for me unless it's a trip over the weekend.
I don't know if it's a regular option over seas, but I get around the ATM fees by getting cash at stores. Just get a bottle of water or a sandwich from a grocery store, and you can usually get the cashback option. It's how I got most of my cash when I lived in Vegas and the only ATM I didn't draw fees at was halfway across the city.
I have another tip to add. If you are going to be hiking, wear your hiking shoes on the plane. Since these shoes are usually very bulky, this saves space in your suitcase and carry on.
Great video. I'm already doing most of them, but I do fail on some of the what-ifs. Remember that you can buy things at your destination if the King and Queen ask you to dinner. Do keep meds in Rx bottles, though; otherwise you're asking for trouble. And packing cubes are a lifesaver. You really can stuff more inside them. I like the old style eBags ones best.
It depends on the vacation. I will check a bag if there are certain items I want to bring for longer trips or if I'm going to be shopping and want to bring back things. Carry on is very limiting. They are good for shorter trips but not longer trips like a long cruise. I agree with everything else.
I find the trend to only carryon helps build air rage. People bring two big items, bins over fill, their back packs swing and hit you because people have no idea where they are in space, they take ages to get settled, need to jump up and grab their bags so they can stand and wait longer to deplane. The cabin is cluttered and seat pockets and feet space all cluttered. I’m the opposite. I’d rather be largely unencumbered and relatively clutter free. So what if I have to wait a bit at the luggage carousel for my checked bag. I’ll grab a coffee, use airport wifi to send some texts, browse the duty free, read.
Fully agree, last year 16 days in Europe, 12 of those days on a cruise ship- while carry on was do-able, it was extremely restrictive plus, while yes, there are pharmacies around the world, sometimes access to them is impossible- better to be prepared and have the what if vs the oh shits- great video though!!
Americans are obsessed with it - They have all had to do it because the airlines there charge for hold luggage. The rest of the worlds airlines include it in the fare, apart from budget ones. I would hate going carry-on only, restrictive.
@@sarahfilbey275What’s restrictive is arriving in Amsterdam and discovering that your ginormous suitcase will not fit in the small spiral staircase up to your room. Or finding that the tiny hotel elevator in Paris barely holds you and your suitcase. Restrictive is having to pay a taxi to get to the station then pay a baggage handler to get everything inside to the train.
@@missmayflower Got back from Europe a few months ago and had no trouble with my luggage. I made sure my hotels had elevators and did my research. I think it’s great that people can do carry on only. But it’s not for me
I save up my ready to throw out clothes for trips, leaves maximum space for new treasures. Also I often put wheeled empty duffel inside my 4 wheel suitcase.
Nice! I'm glad that worked for you. I've shipped things home before that I really wanted to buy while I was traveling and didn't have room for in the luggage brought with me.
The what if…. All you need for this category is a nice looking raincoat that could double as a nice looking outer layer. And a first aid kit. And there you’re covered
useful video to have bookmarked just to make sure nothing was missed or if space/luggage is an issue. Personally, I went to the Mauna Kea summit so I packed my second luggage bag full of winter gear and used my first one to pack ultra light clothing and essentials for 2 people. Zero additional fees
I’m an extra outfit just in case person. Every time I don’t pack the extra outfit I will need it. If I pack it, it’s insurance against a dinner disaster.
I enjoyed your video. You were clear and straight to the point. A lot of people ramble. This video was very helpful for my upcoming trip with only a personal item. Along with my young adult kids.
I use the zip lock bags for everything. The problem I have is that I can't tell anything apart when reaching for things under my seat or in the dark. I just bought puffy stickers to put on the bags so i can distinguish them by touch. I can't wait to see how that works.
I’ll never again travel without a few Folger’s coffee singles (like tea bags but with coffee in them). I once went six days without coffee when I was visiting an elderly relative in Ireland. She only had tea in her house and while I do drink tea, there’s nothing like a cup of coffee in the morning! ☕️
I bring all toiletries in solid or stick forms. Everything in a underseat backpack and a sling bag. All clothings in merino wool that regulate your body temp and quick dry once wash with paper detergent sheets in the sink. 2 pairs of shoes ( sneakers that I wear and a pair of walking sandals). Then my electronic stuff and a small first aid/medical pouch. Everything small either in pouches or tiny travel size. For 1 week I bring only 3 sets of t shirts with one long sleeve, two shorts and one long pants all in colors that work with each others and works well for the weather I m going to. And one packable water resistant jacket.
This is great. I have felt I have neglected outfitting myself properly because I haven't gotten a proper water bottle. (I travel cross country monthly last 2 years). I always take 2 empty disposable water bottles, and I feel like I'm not stocked like a pro, but it works so well, so light and they crush down easily to save space when empty (automatically when descending, in fact).
I'm glad you liked it! It depends on the trip you're taking. I've found most of my trips, that works just fine for me. The only time I might pack differently is if I'm doing a lot of hiking and need to carry a lot of water with me.
I agree except for the the meds and luggage. My trips are long, 2-3 months. I use a med luggage with a duffle carry-on. A full med always hits the 45lb mark. This was me during winter travel with knits and three coats and three foot wear. Definitely don’t need the travel mug. Skin care, just bring your fav routine. Travel iron is a must.
A longer trip like that would be harder to do with just a carry-on. You could always do laundry several times! Just depends on the type of trip you want to take and how easy it is for you to transport your luggage. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I appreciate your input.
Thanks for your video. I appreciate it. I'm longtime experienced traveller (from luxury trips to backpack tours) with carry-on and personal item only. For me it was and it's the perfect way for seeing the world with only light weight. And I will do it also on a 9 day Alaska cruise in October 2024. How ? - I was just rembering cold days in Europe (before we moved to French-Polynesia) - what did I wear: Three different outfits for each day a week - staying inside casual (breakfast, lunch), being outside for sports, dinner time. Nope, it was simply all about different/several combinations/matches of clothes. So, why should I change it for an Alaska cruise - so do it with carry-on. I will wear bulkier stuff such as puffer jacket/woolen cardigan when travelling to cruise port. So, I've done already a "test-packing" - I'm a kind of "over-planning person" 😂. And all fits in carry-on / personal item. Result: 15,5 lbs carry-on / 5 lbs personal item - so no problem with weight restrictions on my international flight from French-Polynesia to US. Greetings from Moorea (sister island of Tahiti) in French-Polynesia 🌴 🏖 😎 🇵🇫 🇫🇷 🇪🇺
We only bring a personal under the seat bag. Pack light and buy what we need at the dollar store. We always make sure to stay at a place that has washer n dryer. Another tip I take the cover off a neck pillow and stuff my undies in them. Also I wear a couple of shirts, capris and camis or other undergarments. If it’s cooler I wear a hoodie over my shirt and carry a jacket across my arm. We save over $125 doing this. I’ve found we don’t need half the stuff we used to take.
The neck pillow tip is clever, thanks for sharing! I feel I learn something new on every trip about what I do and don't need to take. Please don't forget to like this video and subscribe to the channel so UA-cam will share this video with other travelers like you and me!
I like the tips that she is sharing. I would add that every traveler is different. I have allergies to a variety of things, so using generic shampoo and conditioner is not safe for me. I decide what to prioritize and if taking a checked bag is what needed then that is what I will do. Also do your research of where you are traveling to, beware of what products are available at your location.
It's best for ANYONE to use only products your body is accustomed to. It's even possible to suddenly have a reaction to a product you've used in the past. You don't have to be a person with sensitive skin to have a reaction. The easiest way to ruin a vacation is to use hotel products, or to go buy something at your destination that you've never used before and react to it. You could end up seeing nothing of your vacation spot but the inside of your hotel. Never take products you bought "for the travel size" unless you at least test it for a week at home (don't wait for the week before you leave either!). For anyone not heeding this advice, oatmeal in an old sock in a warm bath is the best and easiest way to soothe and calm a reaction. The same goes for medicated products you've never used in foreign countries! I get that products take up space. I make my own so don't use all the store bought chemical cocktails to begin with. But sadly, most people do. But do yourself a favor and at least stick with the ones your body is used to dealing with. Vacation in a foreign land is not the best venue for experimenting with new products (especially face products!). A painful rash is always a drag, but at least when at home you can see your family doctor and get medical advice in your native language. Let's play it safe so we all have fun! Safe travels, everyone!
Great tips. I'm going to start applying these tips for next time I travel. I totally overpacked on my last vacation and used half of my clothes 😅 live and learn.
I always travel with a hydroflask full of Ice through TSA. I add water after TSA. Our last flight had lots of turbulence and we got no drink service. It saved my life.
You’re so welcome! I’m glad you found it helpful. Please don’t forget to like and subscribe to see more videos like this. And have a fabulous time on your trip!
I tried this recently for liquid foundation, and it gets all over the screw on part of lens case. Not sure about this hack. Going to try one more trip to see if I change my mind.
Helpful tips, but I can’t go with recs for toiletries. Being a POC, you can’t just use stuff at airbnbs or hotels that are not formulated for my hair or skin.
I'm not a POC, but I do have annoying cosmetics allergies and sensitivities. I usually make sure I have enough of the basics to cover the trip, but have found that with the exception of sunscreen, I use less of each item than I think. So instead of bringing 100ml of something, I'll bring 30ml or even 15ml of something.
I generally do not use the toiletries provided at the hotels or resorts, unless I've tried them before on a previous trip. But sometimes they change their products. That said, I'll still use the hand soap and lotions, and bring the bath soap, shampoo and conditioner home to try. If I don't like them I give them to someone who can use them. I have sensitive skin and break out on harsher ingredients, sometimes found in some complimentary toiletries; so I bring my own body wash, shampoo and conditioner compatible to my skin and hair. One BIG tip: if you are going on a week or two vacation, use your traveling items at home for the time you will be vacationing. This will tell you exactly how much product to bring. Second tip: if you have left over shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc, use them up at home if you will not be traveling soon, so they don't use their effectiveness. Most have a time frame to use the product once opened. Before your next trip, just refill with your current toiletries.
Thanks for sharing! Carryon only doesn't work for me when im away for over 2 weeks! I prefer a worry free vacation where i don't have to worry about washing clothes out. I also prefer bringjng my own toiletries bc that's my preference. However, I do need to do better with not over packing
Sure! It really depends on the type of travel you're doing and if you're able to carry around a larger suitcase or plan on staying in one place. Worry-free travels are best :)
I am an experienced traveler. I bring a Babybliss travel hair dryer and flat iron. They are light and small. They also convert to foreign wattage. I would not want to depend on whatever they may have at AirBNBs or even on cruise ships.
When you find something that works great for you, sometimes it's worth bringing! I like the Babybliss brand, too. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I'm glad you found it helpful! Sometimes you have to learn about the what-ifs by trial and error. I've found what works best for me after traveling and living so many different places over the years.
A regular bottle would probably work better for a cruise! You don't have to keep packing and unpacking it as you go from destination to destination. Or worry about making room for gifts and souvenirs as you travel :)
Thank you so much for subscribing :) I actually made a video for this where I share tips on how to distract yourself and overcome anxiety on flights. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/i1tHRvTN8ZM/v-deo.html
You shared great tips. I ALWAYS travel carry on. We traveled for 2 weeks going to Vegas and then Hawaii in December with 2 totally different weather climates with just carryons. I have used a lot of the tips you shared and they really work. I also learned a few new tips from this video. Thanks for sharing!
That's great! I'm so glad you found it helpful. And thanks for letting me know that you tried out my tips and they worked for you, too. I love hearing that! I hope you had a fabulous time on your trip to Vegas and Hawaii.
You are spot on. When I travel, I only take a carry-on and as little as possible. I too have AT&T and that 10 dollars a day added up to close to 500 dollars for one month. For my trip coming up, I will check out the E Sim.
Yes it caps at a $100 BUT if you were between 2 billing cycles during the 28 days then it should have been $200 because the cap depends when the billing cycle opens and closes. I don’t see why they would have charged you more than that, clarification indeed was needed from AT&T because it doesn’t sound right. Also if you have other people on your plan that also traveled with you and they were using data then they pay as well.
I also try to find accommodation with laundry, but I find going to a laundromat is the ultimate live like a local experience. Maybe a bit too local sometimes. 😂
Yes, doing laundry is an excellent way to save space in your luggage! I sometimes also bring laundry strips to wash some clothes in the sink or bath, if I can. I like these: amazon.rockporch.com/prdlink/olmy26Pk3l
I buy pretty scarves as souveniers. So not only do I not need to pack it for the trip there but I'm also wearing something local that fits the local taste and makes me stand out less.
I’ve been taking zip lock bags and then I can’t find what I’m looking for. Going try the big bulky organizer for makeup and meds. At least they’ll be together.
Try and see what works best for you! Maybe you can find a way to save space in other ways. I've also found it helpful to use a few different smaller organizers so I can shove them in different sections of my luggage or carry-on backpack.
Also carry prescriptions for medicines and specs. On my first trip to London l left my specs in a pew in St Paul's Cathedral. A replacement pair was much cheaper because l didn't need testing.
I haven't had any problems with mine, but I understand some people have. Cutting back on some other items or the "what-ifs" can help make room for those items you really need, like prescription bottles. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Another idea for your phone is to go to a local sim counter at the arrival airport and have the new country’s sim put into your mobile(cellphone) the only downside is having to line up. It may take a while, but it’s cheap and uses the local coverage which may be better than data from your home country. I’ve found them in Thailand, USA and even Nepal. Also, take only one or two plug converters for the country you’re visiting, and buy a small cheap Local extension plug board in a convenience store like 7.11, so you can charge your laptop and other items at once, as many lodgings have just one power outlet in the room. Alternatively, buy a two-plug converter in advance. Plus, scale your clothing needs down for a hot country, into a personal item / daypack and use your carryon case for souvenirs on your return trip. What even IS checkin ?! 😊
Great recommendations for the travel converters! Thanks for sharing :) For the sim cards, I love the Holafly eSIM - bit.ly/3Uj3VZW It's very affordable and allows me to connect to a local network almost anywhere I go. Most of their plans also have unlimited data for messaging and browsing. I've found it to be easier and better even than grabbing a local sim card in each destination.
Good tips but some countries in Africa and Asia want new dollar bills-usually 50’s and 100’s. ATM’s don’t always work or are empty. I never travel with anything of value either! 😊
I buy a bottle of water in the airport and I reuse it my entire trip. My kids kind of make fun of me but it works for me! (At home I always use a reusable bottle). ALSO if you're in Vegas and you buy a cold Starbucks drink, KEEP the cup and use it later to make a to-go cocktail in the room before you head out to walk on the Strip!
I have a trip coming up to visit my dad and stepmom down in Florida. It’ll be in November. And I vow to do carry-on only this time. I always overpack and even though I get everything into technically a carry-on the flights I have to take usually are on small planes and they don’t have room for the carry-on on wheels. So I got a backpack carry-on that’s a little bit smaller, and I’m gonna make it work. I am blind and I use a guide dog so I need to have my hands-free. And packing for her does take up some space. But my goal is to make it work this next trip. I don’t want to have to go to baggage claim, it’s just one more place that I need help finding.
For those of us that actually hike on travel we do bring appropriate gear. But those are our regular clothes lol. Cash if fine but please if you are traveling Internationally have an ATM card that works overseas with a decent amount of money in the account. In some countries cash is still how things work. Japan for example. If you want a quick bite to eat no cards. Many countries haven't updated taxies to take cards and Uber isn’t everywhere. Having access to money is very important.
Ha-ha! I just bought a 32 oz travel bottle 😂. But you’re right- it’s way too bulky! Spot on on carry-on, just take one with wheels, cuz the big backpack types are uncomfortable and way too heavy (from experience). I loved the tip about small ziplock bags. Kudos!
Exactly! I don't want to be weighed down with my luggage. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Please like this video and subscribe to the channel so UA-cam will recommend this video to other travelers like you :)
You need a bunch of one and five dollar bills for tipping upon arrival. I certainly dont tip with a $20 unless their service was worth that much, but it's rare.
Great tips, thank you! A question, tho. I'm in Canada. $15 a day to travel in the States with my SIM phone card... If I don't use my phone SIM, how will I get updates from airlines or a security alert from my house camera (that tells me if i get a package at the front door)?
Great question! Using a different SIM card, like an eSIM, won't keep you from getting those updates and notifications. It just allows you to connect to a local network where you are traveling, so the apps you already have on your phone will work as they normally do. My favorite is the Holafly eSIM: bit.ly/3Uj3VZW
Totally agree with the water bottle. I can understand the desire to be environmentally friendly, but finding water fountains can sometimes be tricky and once you are out big cities, sometimes whether or not the tap water is safe to drink can be questionable. Which means you end up having to open plastic bottles anyways to refill it. There's also something to be said for grabbing an ice cold water from a convenience store after a hot day of exploring. I buy a plastic bottle (or use the free one that is sometimes in my hotel room) but hold onto the bottle so that refilling it is still an option if it's available. If I am going on a trip where I know I will have a car for the entire trip, I will consider taking a suitcase. Otherwise, carry-on only is so freeing.
How would you travel with only carry-on, if the total allowable carry-on weight is 8kg (17.6#), and your a photographer? Many airlines outside the US, now have that restriction restriction 😢
I shoot Olympus, so my gear is smaller and lighter, but still struggle to keep my camera gear within weight limit. Forget having just a carry-on, especially for the flights with highly restrictive weight limits.
We’re going on a transatlantic cruise next year…from Miami to England. Leaving WARM in Miami to COLD and RAINY in February in England. I’m bamboozled about what to take b/c I know I need rain gear and a heavy coat for the U.K. Any suggestions? I’m taking one pair of waterproof shoes.
That sounds so exciting! Trips through different climates and weather can seem tricky. I've found the trick is in how you layer your clothing items. Here's a blog I wrote recently on how best to pack for fall and weather that changes from hot to cold: theabundanttraveler.com/fall-packing-list-how-to-pack/ I hope you have a fabulous time on your trip!
My husband and I bought slings from Amazon to carry our Thermos water bottles. We travel internationally and have never had a problem. Also, I strongly disagree with the suggestion to wear black. Black is my absolute worst color.
Sometimes that's needed in really hot climates. I've been able to get by without mine most of the time and found it wasn't worth packing a bulkier bottle for me. It's all about finding what works best for you, though! Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)
Regarding not bringing toiletries. I never touch the liquid soap dispensers at hotels. Usually they have allergenic preservatives in Thailand. Get a small bottle at 7 insteas, and READ the ingredients list!
The only thing I disagree with you on is the water bottle. I cannot stand warm water and love my water to be cold. My travel mug does such a better job at keeping my water cold so I will drink it. So that is one thing I will continue to take with me on my travels.
If you are worried about thieves I understand the water bottle one but as someone who forgot my waterbottle and reused one from the airport for 8weeks I do wish I had brought my “good” bottle. Was there any substantial difference? No. But what is the point of finding a good waterbottle you like if you aren’t going to take it when you travel? I’m not talking the huge 30-40oz Stanley’s, just a solid 16-24oz bottle depending on your preference.
I Prefer to bring my water bottle bc it keeps my beverages nice and cold especially if sightseeing and it's extremely hot. Reusing plastic water bottles are gross in my opinion and I prefer not to use them
A smaller reusable bottle is much better to take than a large 40oz. As for the plastic ones from the airport, I typically switch those out every few days or so and recycle the old ones if I can. It isn't considered safe to reuse them long-term.
I have long hair and most of the hair dryers on location very under powered. I would love to leave it at home, but don't think it would work out for me. Do you find they work?
We Love Target!! We truly miss Target in Canada! We regularly go to Target, in the U.S. Hope they can regain their strength in the market. Go Target Go!! ❤

I’m so guilty of the “what if’s.” I’ll be fine packing for a bit and then I panic right before leaving. 😂
I think we’re all guilty of the ‘what if’s’. 🤣. Thanks for watching the video.
Except when you are going on a cruise! They have very limited stock on board.
As a veteran traveler let me say this - travel the way you want
Agreed. Everybody has a different style of travel.
well that's the worse advice i ever heard
Actually , it's true. Imagine you going to a distant country with different dish, like way different. You have to eat(your local dish) something before getting used to the new one or he/she could get health issues
@@phunk8607 😆👍
Yes, that goes without saying. But isn’t it exciting hearing others’ travel stories?
As a veteran traveler I can confirm these tips are spot-on. Overpacking is all too easy to do, and it can ruin a trip. I’ll add one tip for beach/cruise vacations: if you’re going to spend your days by the pool or on a beach put on your beachwear first thing, and save “real” clothes for dinner. Since you’ll only have worn them a few hours, you can wear them the next day as beach/pool coverups. You can pretty much cut your clothing needs in half this way. Also, for the price of a checked suitcase you can pay the hotel to do a load of laundry.
Thanks so much for the compliment and thanks for sharing your tips.
I can't get your carry on list.
@@TheAbundantTravelerI can't get your carry on list.
Absolutely agree with "fake" jewelry -- from a distance, a thief can" distinguish real from memorex. Keep it simple.
Very true about luggage appearance. I recently bought a new carry-on and got it for 50 bucks at Walmart!
Absolutely, on that motto!
And I do wear minimal jewellery when I travel, but just cheap market stuff (a few pairs of earrings only)
@@susie9893 Very wise & thank you!
This is a great story for future travelers. Thanks for sharing and make sure to subscribe to the channel.
The collapsible water bottle is such a good idea!
Great tips!!!
All great tips. Thanks for sharing.
Amazon has little bags that are not disposable! Look for those. Sturdy and reusable
Great video! One thing I do is make sure the little “card holder” is RFID
That’s an excellent tip. Thanks for sharing.
What is RFID?
@@janetfalconer2341it is protection so that your credit and debit card info cannot be gathered by someone near you with a scanner. Most travel wallets and passport wallets now have that feature
Rfid means Radio-frequency identification. You need a RFID blocking wallet to protect any nearby reader from scanning your cards
I just came back from Paris this week. I didn't pack a lot in my bag, but it was great cause it gave me so much room for my shopping.
Oh yes, shopping in Paris. 🥳😀Hope you had a great time.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and yes, packing just two pair of shoes is hard. 🤣Thanks for watching the video.
On one trip a fellow traveller had some good quality black laced walking shoes that looked like dress shoes. She had 3 or 4 different coloured shoelaces that she used to change them up for evening wear
@@katv1195that’s cool
But, not for prescriptions or supplements. Original bottles only.
That’s an interesting tip, and thank you for sharing. I’ve never had that experience or problem.
I also carry a copy of my prescriptions in case they get lost .
I would say this regardless of where you go. It helps to have if you need to get more at your destination for any reason
Noted. Never had an issue with my prescriptions on international flight.
My sister is planning a trip to Singapore, and found they arevery strict about rx meds being in original containers.
Also, we travel extensively throughout Europe and the rest of the world during rainy seasons as well. A small collapsible umbrella is very handy, and it doesn’t take much room.
Small and collapsible is definitely the way to go. Sometimes I'm able to borrow an umbrella from the hotel I'm staying at, which is nice.
Her comments are absolutely right, for the first time in my adult life, my spouse and I traveled for two weeks overseas with each just a 21in international carry on size bag
No water bottles, no ‘what-ifs’, no multiples of shoes, bare basics of toiletries, no books or magazines,
It was life-changing! So easy to get around, so easy to pack up each morning, and much less stress than managing a lot of ‘stuff’
I did make a mistake bringing a tote bag as my ‘personal item’ that was too bulky, next time I will whittle that down to a crossbody purse
Can’t wait to travel again with these new rules, makes preparing harder but makes the actual trip easier!
LOVE the DON'T pack stuff, every trip I come home and realize I could have gone with less, I am working my way down everytime :)
That's a great method for packing less! I have a few items I do that with, as well. Thank you for sharing
This only works if you're not catching more flights within the trip. I almost never not do that these days when I travel (considering how much cheaper domestic flights have become vs rail)
I love when you say, "Are you kidding me?!". I know you mean business and you're saying it with love.
Ha. It’s the southern girl in me 🤩
When I travel for business I always pack a nice evening outfit, nothing too much, but I've been invited to events and the outfit (usually just a nice dress) was really useful to have!
Thx. 👏
Thanks so much for your comment and for watching the video.
Agreed with us. It’s a great option to get a local SIM
Covers up the dirt
So not necessary
best sensible advice!!!!!!!! too bad trying tell this to friends and family members on trips... upstream battle.
Some people need to figure these things out themselves :)

Every travel influencer talks about carry-on only. Have you noticed that each one of these influencers are a “small”. That’s easy to pack in a carry-on bag. If you are a large or bigger, then there is no way you can fit the same number of clothes that is being packed as shown.
I like your comment. I’m 5 foot 11 and wear a size 10 shoe. I do go carry-on, but it’s not always easy. Thanks for watching the video.
Exactly my big girl clothes..do take up more room..lol
I agree 1000000%!!!
Please😄 don't wear monochrom cinderella outfit in Italy or austria even the hiking clothes are collorfull.😊
UBU
I don't know if it's a regular option over seas, but I get around the ATM fees by getting cash at stores. Just get a bottle of water or a sandwich from a grocery store, and you can usually get the cashback option. It's how I got most of my cash when I lived in Vegas and the only ATM I didn't draw fees at was halfway across the city.
@@AJStarhikerthat doesn't really work in Europe. Most of the places had a no cash back policy.
I have another tip to add. If you are going to be hiking, wear your hiking shoes on the plane. Since these shoes are usually very bulky, this saves space in your suitcase and carry on.
That’s a great tip. Thanks for sharing and watching the video.
Except they might be difficult to remove going through TSA, or not comfortable or too hot wearing for a few hours on the plane.
@@sassysandie2865 You can take them off on the plan. I did that as I needed good waterproof walking boots in the UK
Sometimes, getting to my next gate on layover is quite a hike in and of itself.
I do it all the time!!

Traveling is a blessing and very special and I do love my fancy clothing. And I also make sure to have plenty room in my laggage for souvenirs.
YES!!!!!
I love my fancy clothes and usually will bring one nice thing on a trip. Everything else stays at home. Thanks for sharing your comments.
I agree! It depends on the trip I’m taking. There are some things I’ve learned I just don’t need anymore. Thanks for watching and for your feedback!
Agree
Fully agree, last year 16 days in Europe, 12 of those days on a cruise ship- while carry on was do-able, it was extremely restrictive plus, while yes, there are pharmacies around the world, sometimes access to them is impossible- better to be prepared and have the what if vs the oh shits- great video though!!
I couldn’t think of anything worse than doing carry on for an overseas trip. I love my shopping! And posting items back home can be very costly
We all love shopping :-) thanks for watching the video.
@@missmayflower Got back from Europe a few months ago and had no trouble with my luggage. I made sure my hotels had elevators and did my research. I think it’s great that people can do carry on only. But it’s not for me

useful video to have bookmarked just to make sure nothing was missed or if space/luggage is an issue. Personally, I went to the Mauna Kea summit so I packed my second luggage bag full of winter gear and used my first one to pack ultra light clothing and essentials for 2 people. Zero additional fees

I use the zip lock bags for everything. The problem I have is that I can't tell anything apart when reaching for things under my seat or in the dark. I just bought puffy stickers to put on the bags so i can distinguish them by touch. I can't wait to see how that works.
Puffy stickers sound like a great idea for this!
The 2.5-Gal. Zip lock bags work great as vacuum packing cubes!

I’ll never again travel without a few Folger’s coffee singles (like tea bags but with coffee in them). I once went six days without coffee when I was visiting an elderly relative in Ireland. Security specialists would disagree with using any hotel safe. They are not secure because hotel staff have access in most cases.
Great tips. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for watching the video.
Amazing! Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your own tips and experiences. :)
Thanks! I sent this to my wife - a notorious over-packer.
You're welcome! I hope you both find it helpful :)

This is a great point and helpful for other travelers with allergies or medications they need to take. Thanks for watching!

TSA is Transportation Safety Agency. It is the screening you go through in the Airport.
U can’t take water thru security

Contact lens cases work awesome for cremes and lotions
That’s a great idea. Thanks for sharing and for watching the video.
I tried this recently for liquid foundation, and it gets all over the screw on part of lens case. Not sure about this hack. Going to try one more trip to see if I change my mind.
Also contact lens case for a small pair of earrings or necklace.
I agree. Been using screw cap set for creme & lotion or other things. Wrks well
Must be 3 oz
A POC here and that's the absolute TRUTH! 🌹
I completely understand. I don’t like overly scented items. Thanks for watching the video and for your comments.
FACTS
Great advice!!! I do have trouble with the WHAT IF part.
I'm glad you found it helpful! Sometimes you have to learn about the what-ifs by trial and error. I've found what works best for me after traveling and living so many different places over the years.
A regular water bottle is great for cruises. You can get water in the cafeteria and take it back to your stateroom for when you need a drink
I just go to Starbucks
A regular bottle would probably work better for a cruise! You don't have to keep packing and unpacking it as you go from destination to destination. Or worry about making room for gifts and souvenirs as you travel :)
I try traveling with carry on only and the result is not good. I take a check in luggage and a carry on.
Do you have a downloadable list for carry on? Thanks!
I’m travelling alone to Greece 🇬🇷 (i’ve always travelled with family/friends) great video 🏴💚🏴🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
I just subscribed to your Chanel, my question to you is how do you do to be able to fly and not be anxious the whole flight?????
So appreciate your feedback. Have a great trip.
Don't see how AT&T charge could add up to $500. That $10/day plan caps at $100.
@@jcat1977 well it didn't for me. I was gone for 28 days . It should have been 280. Anyway, E sim is the way to go
Yes it caps at a $100 BUT if you were between 2 billing cycles during the 28 days then it should have been $200 because the cap depends when the billing cycle opens and closes. I don’t see why they would have charged you more than that, clarification indeed was needed from AT&T because it doesn’t sound right. Also if you have other people on your plan that also traveled with you and they were using data then they pay as well.
We pack for 7 days. Basic pants colors, mix tops, one nice top etc. We find a laundromat on day we chill where ever we are at.
What a wonderful idea! I love buying items like that. It's a great way to keep those memories with you every time you wear it.
That’s a great tip. Thanks for sharing.
When did they put pews in St Paul's?
I’m flying in September. All prescriptions and supplements will be in original containers. Don’t want any hassles at security.
Thanks for sharing :)
For the sim cards, I love the Holafly eSIM - bit.ly/3Uj3VZW
It's very affordable and allows me to connect to a local network almost anywhere I go.
That’s a great tip about new dollar bills in certain countries. Thanks for sharing.
I have T-Mobile and pay zero for data, text are free as well. We turn our ringer off and avoid any calls except emergencies at .25 a minute.
Wow, that's a great travel plan!
Those are great travel hacks. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so guilty of what-if packing!
We've all been there! Hopefully each time you travel, you'll get better at recognizing what isn't necessary for you :)
Yes i enjoyed this video, Thank you.
You got this! I hope you found some of the tips helpful in packing for your trip. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
You KILL Me with your "Are you kidding me???".....what a crackup!
😂 I think it's my catchphrase at this point
Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
Tipping in US dollars overseas can cause a burden on the recipient.
@@carolepeck3829 While in London, I would use my left-over coins to tip the hotel maid since I can't use them at home anyway.
Love those little zip lock bags!
They're the best!
Add big inside pockets to your coats.
Here's a blog I wrote recently on how best to pack for fall and weather that changes from hot to cold: theabundanttraveler.com/fall-packing-list-how-to-pack/
I hope you have a fabulous time on your trip!
My husband and I bought slings from Amazon to carry our Thermos water bottles. We travel internationally and have never had a problem.
Also, I strongly disagree with the suggestion to wear black. Black is my absolute worst color.
thanks for sharing
My pleasure! Thank you for watching and commenting :)
I loved your video ❤😊 I needed it
❤
I'm going to pack my insulated water bottle with a casestrap, in hot climates the plastic water bottles get hot really fast.
Sometimes that's needed in really hot climates. I've been able to get by without mine most of the time and found it wasn't worth packing a bulkier bottle for me. It's all about finding what works best for you, though! Thanks so much for watching and commenting :)
As soon as you travel with kids, carry on, is out the window 😂
I loved this video. Absolutely helpful.
Regarding not bringing toiletries. I never touch the liquid soap dispensers at hotels. Usually they have allergenic preservatives in Thailand. Get a small bottle at 7 insteas, and READ the ingredients list!
Thanks for sharing this tip.
I love target too. Thanks for watching the video.
Jeenie Weenie gave a tip of putting cling film sheet on top of bottles or jars before screwing on the top to prevent spills.
This is a great tip, thanks for sharing! I've tried this before, and it does help.
Thanks 4 the video
You're welcome! Thank you for watching :) I hope you got some good tips for your next adventure
