Not arriving 2 hours early sounds like terrible advice. Unless you're at a tiny regional airport, security & check-in lines can get long and can take up to an hour or more to get through. And some international flights start the boarding process 45 minutes to 1 hour before the scheduled departure time. And if you arrive only an hour before flight, well... good luck getting to your gate on time.

@@jackierinker2582 Miami International Airport is notoriously bad. Check-in can be unto an hour although that has improved. "Security" with TSA took me 2 hours one time. They are also disorganized & send people to the wrong check in lines at times. I know people who fly extra hours & pay more just to avoid MIA. You should be fine, just be aware & arrive early. Better to wait at the gate than miss the flight. Earlier may be better than the busier hours🌝

I like boarding last and letting them check my bag. I'm short, and when I was a size two I could cram all my clothes into a small carry on. I hate managing and stowing it overhead, which is not easy for my bad shoulders. When the overheads are full, they check my carry-on/luggage, and I don't even have to pay the checked bag fee. Because my bag is carry-on size, they don't put it at the baggage claim, but they have it waiting right beside the exit when I disembark. I've never had to wait. Another advantage to this is if I have to switch to another plane, I don't have to wrangle my heavy carry-on size baggage and run through the airport with it to the next flight. It is moved to the other plane for me with all the other checked baggage, which I got for free since they ran out of overhead space. Usually checked bags cost $50 each.

Never board last. You risk running out of overhead compartment space and may end up having your luggage checked in by the airline. You travel light so you have only a carry-on; you don’t want to wait at the carousel for your “carry-on” luggage.
Also, yes, you can fold the clothes in “travel friendly style” but don’t forget that folding nicely and neatly does not make the luggage lighter. You need to consider the weight as well. Majority of the airline has weight limit for carry-on.

BAD ADVICE!! ALWAYS arrive 2-3 hours before the ORIGINAL departure time of your flight!! Even if the airport is considered to be small there is always the possibility they will have moments of being extremely busy when getting thru TSA. If a flight is delayed before you get to the airport, STILL GO TO THE AIRPORT AS IF IT'S NOT DELAYED. A delayed time can change at any time. EVERY AIRLINE has a checked-bag cut-off time. Find this out in advance.

I just did a round trip between Thailand and Cambodia. I arrived to checking point 2 hours before: I barely had time to buy a bottle of water after security check (no free water) despite not having to wait at all at the check-in, passport control and bag/body scan. Both countries the boarding closed (supposedly) 45 mins before take-off: it is now a standard for passengers having to sit ground bound, rather than the flight being delayed because of waiting for a late passenger. There was quite a lengthy walk the gate in Thai airport but not Cambodia, which made me wonder how come I still didn't have any more spare time - it is so rare there is anything I want from duty free shops.
I usually want a window seat, so I want to board first: then I don't have to squeeze past other passengers nor they keep squeezing past me. If I have an isle seat, I try to board last. I only worry about cabin luggage if it is a long flight, otherwise everything I need (and a bit more) fits under the seat.

The issue of Thailand usually is the long queues for check in AND immigration clearance especially during holiday season. The long walk to boarding gate doesn't help. For Cambodia (Phnom penh) it's the long queue and inefficiency during check in mostly. Once you pass check in it should be fine since immigration and boarding gate is close by. If you didn't have to wait at all and still don't have time to buy a drink then I really suspect you walk at a pace slower than snail.

I had to fly across the Country from West to East Coast last minute due to an emergency. As a NP (Nurse Practitioner) I am already OCD about bacteria and Viruses so imagine being kicked into high gear with having 30 minutes to get packed and to airport to catch the only flight to where I needed to go….. Oy VEY!🤦🏼‍♀️…..
I flew 1st and barely made the flight. I got on and the entire front of the plane was ALL Pilots and Co-Pilots except for me. OhhhhhhKaaayyyy?🤷🏼‍♀️ Something I need to know Peeps? And to top it off the Captain of that Flight was a very good friend of mine so she knew I was coming and took her time getting everyone boarded for me (My Father was dying) which I will be eternally grateful to her for❤so when I saw all her colleagues I apologized profusely and everyone was so kind…but…a little TOO quiet…it was weird……so, as they saw me pull out my carry on and then saw me pull out my “travel” bag which contained….everything but bleach LOL……WELL…..as soon as they ALL saw what I was about to do and I started to ask permission as a couple of the things I use are a bit “pungent” but in a CLEAN smell way however I NEVER would do that if someone said no….
They all BURST OUT LAUGHING and from the seat in front of each of them, there is the pocket and all of them pulled out this little “CLEANING KIT” for travelling and started to wiped EVERYTHING that was even an inch within their grasp, down from top to bottom!!! 😂😂 THAT made me laugh so hard and trust me, I NEEDED that laugh!!!
When a couple of them saw that I had Cavi Wipes, they knew I must be a Nurse or a Kleptomaniac that was just in hospital, and asked if they could have one LOL! Not much beats a Cavi Wipe! So of course I shared.
Then one of the Captains, of which there were MANY, started to explain to me about how the air is MUCH cleaner than people think due to how it is forced in and goes through here and there etc etc (WAY OVER MY HEAD to say the least!!!) but allegedly the plane AIR is far cleaner that people think. Like I said he DID explain it and if I were a P. Eng. I would have been able to repeat it and share it! It did make sense at the time though so that helped me feel a little bit better as it was a couple years ago and we are ALL tired of hearing about Mask Mandates to say the least!!!
I have not really thought about it since then, until now, but I am definitely going to try to remember what he told me and call my Little Bro as he IS an Engineer so if I can remember ever some of what he said, my little B will know what he was talking about!
Regardless, it was made VERY VERY clear to me by PILOTS, some who had almost 30 years flying commercial, that THEY do not sit without CLEANING their “area” before flight check. THAT is sad. Planes really ARE DISGUSTINGLY GROSS!!!!

2:02 do not I repeat do not ever board last! Do you know what happens when you board last? you get no overhead compartment because some other person has decided they don't wanna check their luggage and gonna bring it on board and use the overhead luggage bins of someone else, then your flight attendant will say "that's OK we can put it under the plane for you." the one thing a light traveler never wants to hear so now your inconvenience and we'll have to wait for your luggage they come out of the carousel rather than have it with you like everyone else and be able to just exit the airport. Trust me do not ever board last.

Ok, heres some actual tips. 1. The people in the airport have very minimal communication with the people inside the plane. When they anounce "no more cary on bags in the overhead". It's not actually full. it's just almost full. I dont like to check my bag. So if they give me a tag for it, and tell me to turn it over to the guy at the end if the gangway, i just rip the tag off in the gangway and bring my bag on anyhow, i always find room for it.
    2. The people at the gate are less money hungry than the ticket agents. If the outside ticket agents want more money for an earlier flight, get the cheaper one and then go to the gate of the flight you want and talk with those guys, if there's room, they'll usually switch you for free.
    3. Its amazing how much you can minimize lugage expenses by putting stuff on your person. I try to limit myself to the caryon and the personal item and have zero lugage expence. You can wear 2 pairs of pants, 2 shirts even double up on underwear. After security you can stick tons of stuff in pockets. Wear a jacker (more pockets!) Now, if you dont want to actually wear all this stuff on your long flight, bring along some cheap plastic bags (the kind you get at Wal-Mart) that can be scrunched up and take up zero room. Then go to the lavatory take, off your extra clothing, put it in one or more plastic bags. You can always squeeze these into the corners of the overhead bin.
    4. Speaking of which scruntchy type bagage is always easier to fit inside the baggage sizer than stiff baggage.
You know.....i should make these videos!

    @KevinS819 Місяць тому +21

    1. pilots aren't afraid of turbulence because they know the planes are built to withstand multiple times the severity of turbulence of what everyday flyers will feel. not because of "updraft"
    2. "updraft" is not even the right name. what you are referring to is called a microburst. microbursts are also not the most dangerous during the updraft. It is during the downdraft phase that is the most dangerous. there is only 3 useless things to a pilot, the gas left at the airport, the altitude above you, and the runway behind you. altitude = options/time to a pilot.
    3. an airplane lossing all engines during takeoffs and landings will probably not be able to fly for more than a couple of minutes. 20 minutes only applies to planes at cruising altitude which would probably be higher then 30k feet.

I would like to share my experience I have been a medical escort for the past almost 7 to 8 years and taking a lot of flights both domestic and international. From my experience I can tell you that arriving at a busy airport in India for a domestic flight 3 hours and for international flights 4 hours this is not a bad idea you can be relaxed and you do not get worked up and tense. Of course, once you get the boarding pass and check in and security and past the passport control, you have ample time with you to sit back relax go to the food court go to the shopping areas duty free and have a walk. When the boarding time comes its quite relaxing for me at least to board in the end because you don’t have to stand in the queue and then you know jostle at the aircraft gate. Ye, if you have too much of carry on luggage with you to the cabin it can be a problem because the overhead bins they tend to get filled up very fast and but in my experience if you are carrying moderate amount of carry on luggage, generally the air hostesses and stewards they help you with the space in the overhead bins also it might be a few seats in front of you or behind you and which translates to little bit of delay when deboarding but that is only 5 or 10 minutes extra and that has been okay with me yeah.

    - all airlines overbook. I witnessed multiple times that the last ppl didn’t make it although they had a boarding pass. One time happened to myself.

The carryon bag goes into overhead locker , my back pack goes under my legs , camera case on my legs .

I had enough kit for 7 weeks of travel , no checked bags to be paid for .
Carryon was well over 10 kgs , BP about 8 kgs .
    Arrival times :-)
If you do not have a pre booked seat , get to check in sometime before it opens , shorter lines and you get a choice of seat , if polite :-)
Once checked , all the other stuff takes time too .
    Get through and relax :-)
Even arriving more than 2 hours ahead might not be enough .
Got to one airport , bags scanned easily before entering .
To literally join the end of the check in line .
2 hours later , had check in , in sight . @ scheduled time of departure .

Also better than keeping it in your backpack because in the event of an evacuation you are not allowed to take any luggage with you.

Bad advice. Groups normally start from the back of the plane, then progress forward (excluding business / first of course! Those guys are in the first group anyways!). People in the early groups will often put their carryon bags in the overhead bins nearer the front rather than hoping there's still space around their own seat, so when later groups do board the bins around their seats are already full, and they end up having their bags stored in bins behind them.

A carry on case is maximum weight 7kg or 15lb. My case empty weighs 1.5kg or 3lb but most weight 2kg or 4lb. I travel with an iPad and 3 months of essential medicines and medical records, and that fills my carry-on case. No room for clothes. A check-in case is essential for me. International flights to Australia are expensive so I stay for 3 months with domestic flights between hot northern cities to cold southern cities. I cannot carry winter dressing down and pyjamas, warm outdoor wear, plus smart visiting clothes. Airlines have reduced baggage to an inadequate level. Domestic flights have less baggage than international allowances, that prevent passengers from fling in to the South, and flying out from the north.

Flying etiquette has drastically changed. being “too” polite and nice will end you up most especially missing your connecting flights or schedule for the day in your destination. I experienced that packing clothes for 10 days on a 14 days trip is more than enough. Even if you do not have the change to wash clothes. Why that?
    1. I only pack clothes I really know that I will wear.
    2. I expect that I have the possibility to wash clothes (socks and underwear can be washed in any sink).
    3. Often We buy new cloth on our trip, so I will still have space for them or even better ...

    1. You should have a carry-on luggage or suitcase with your most precious belongings that you better don't give out of your hands especially not for checking-in.
    2. You are in the aircraft and can start relaxing there.
    3. Your carry-on baggage is safe in the overhead compartment already

Packing in vacuumized bags is nice to go, but what do you do on return? Borrow the vaccum from the hotel?? Forget it! Don’t do that.

I put It on the bed lay my clothes in it and then I roll it and squeeze out the air while I’m rolling it and I get a pretty good seal not a vacuum seal but it still works pretty good. That’s the only way I travel. I don’t just put my clothes in suitcase, because if my luggage get wet, my things will be protected, and people have bugs. they crawl out of their luggage and crawl into yours, all kind of reason🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💯‼️

There are tons of vacuum bags that don't require a vacuum. You just roll the air out and it's like a one way valve. It won't come back in till you open the ziplock. It's really nifty. I used it recently. So much more space!

Every time i check a bag, something ends up lost, stolen, or broken. Its ridiculous almost every single time. I started using those little TSA approved locks locking by checked luggage and have had no issues since then.

Don’t board last? Most airlines board passengers via groups & you board when you’re group is called so you don’t really have much choice in the matter.

I don't usually have a carryon so as long as I have a assigned seat I am fine to board last. I prefer it because I hate being around people.

Such a good boy, you certainly have a choice. No one says anything if you board last or during last call.

    Prices at duty free stores:
If you ever come to Thailand, FORGET THE DUTY FREE !
All shops are owned by King Power and everything you can buy outside is more expensive in the duty free shops!

Bangkok took me 2 hrs from entering the bld, check bags, security and get to the gate. Not a minute to spare.
