  • Mowing Our Worst (Overgrown) Lawn in Mowssouri - Steep Hills, Lots of Trimming, and Tall Grass! This is one of our regular lawns that we maintain here in Mowssouri. We've had a lot of rain like the majority of everyone else in the Midwest, so the grass got TALL on us. It's hard enough to knock out when we keep up with it on a normal schedule. Add a little rain into the mix and the grass is thick, tall, and just a challenge to mow. But we gotta do what we've gotta do. Time to tackle one of our worst lawns that we maintain here in Mowssouri. And like I said, it's an overgrown lawn. So, this should be a lot of fun. Kick back, relax, and watch us clean this place up. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for tuning in from St Charles! Very nice area up your way. I used to run a 48” Huster Trimstar walk behind on these hills. Mowed the hills with it until I picked up the Z3X. The Z3 can mow just a little bit more than the walk behind did, surprisingly. There’s just no easy way with this one lol. I’ll run the Ventrac on it next time and show you how much it can get compared to the Z3X. Stay tuned...

Cameron -- thank you for the wonderful content. That sloped property is an excellent place to compare the overall time to cut with your zero-turn mower + manual string trimming versus the Ventrac with Tough Cut & 8 wheels + manual string trimming just along the fence. Your many years of experience on this property supports you optimizing each method... and providing that comparison for your viewers, and each mower vendor. Thanks again!

Thanks for watching! I wish the video could really capture just how steep those hills are that I mow. One wrong move on the zero turn and it would end up in the ditch. The trimming is really tough down in the ditch. Hard enough to just hang on the hill to trim it. I’ll definitely have to get the Ventrac on there in the future. Although it’s a tough job for the Ventrac as well because it’s a tight spot to mow. You have to hit it from all sorts of angles even on the Ventrac or you’ll end up in the ditch. And it would take a heavy duty truck with a winch to get that sucker pulled out of there lol. Thanks for taking the time to watch and really enjoying the technical aspect of this job. It’s really a tough job any way you look at it. Especially when the grass is a little tall! Stay tuned for the next time I cut this one...

All I have is the 95” finish deck, but you’ll see it in the next video 😳. It’s still tricky and challenging to mow it with the Ventrac because of the angles. If I ever was to slip and get it in the ditch then I would be done for the day lol. It’s a deep ditch that just drops off. A winch would be the only thing that would pull it out. Stay tuned though for the next time I mow it. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. 👍😎💯

There’s no way to get a mower by the fence now because on the only end you have access to get something in there is a 1 foot ditch that you can’t cross. I have taken the push mower through there, but it’s honestly faster to trim it. Very rough terrain to go over. I typically mow this one every 7 to 10 days, but we’ve had so much rain it’s been over two weeks. If it’s a little wet, it’s even harder holding your grip on the hills. Appreciate you watching! @@TheLawnCareLifeinMowssouri Gotta love those situations where you can _almost_ do something more efficiently, but then there's something seemingly minor in the way.... Like a customer friend re-built a fence last year ( well, her fella did, but he's a friend too ) and I kept saying to both of them, if you could make at least one of the two gates at least 4 feet, that would make mowing the back much faster, and I could use one mower instead of two 🙏 Wouldn't you know it he made both gates, like 40 inches 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤣🤣 Or maybe even a little bigger, but something like JUST small enough that I can't even back her in there 😑 And now I still have to use the 30 in the back, and my 48 is so much better on this steep hill they have than the 30...even my belt drive takes hills better. I did recently pick up an old 48 hydro that I'm trying to figure out a belt problem for....maybe somehow that one will fit if I finagle it, but the point was to just drive it in and out of the gate without any tricks 😵‍💫😂 I should have raised their price more than 5 bucks this year 🤣 but that was just for fuel and inflation. I honestly think I'm going to offer to rebuild one of the gates...or maybe I should start trimming the hill, but it's always healthier for grass to cut it with a blade rather than string.... 🤷‍♂️
Anyway, do you have a trimmer rack on the Ferris? Those come in handy, especially on these big jobs with lots of funky trimming....when you're solo....

Bro you need to buy a DR push trimmer to mow those ditches. There are many other brands out now using the same system as well. It uses large replaceable strings that pivot to help when mowing next to fences. It will make trimming so much easier on the back! It’ll also help with employee retainment. Work smarter not harder is what my pops always taught me.

I’m all about working smarter not harder. This is one tricky lawn. Back in the day we had 3 guys trim these entire hillsides. A push mower won’t hold these hills, they just slide down into the ditch lol. I try to carry the lightest yet most powerful trimmer to knock out these slopes. It’s such a tricky one to mow because of the rough terrain and steep slope. Video doesn’t do it justice, but it’s hard to stay upright while trimming most of that hill down at the bottom. Appreciate you taking the time to watch. And I appreciate the tips. Stay tuned for the next time I mow this one. I’m gonna switch it up some for you guys, but it’s still not gonna be easy.

@@TheLawnCareLifeinMowssouri the push trimmers have large wheels on the back and float on a ball on the front under the trimmer head. My mom and dad had a steeper ditch in the front of their property than that and I mowed it with no problem. It was close to a forty degree slope. Seriously, you may want to give it a go. They are relatively inexpensive.

I’m up for trying anything out to see if it works better. It’s tough enough just staying upright on these hills lol. And then you have to awkwardly straddle the ditch in places in order to get it all trimmed. I thought about trying out one of those hover mowers, but never took the time to buy one. I don’t know anyone that has one...

Lol if you saw the ground you would change your mind. It’s like a mine field lol. Holes everywhere and mounds of dirt. Never know what you would hit. It’s not even enough to put a mower on it. Can’t tell from the video though.

Spraying would be a good option. I don’t enjoy trimming along chain link fences.
