For college in short, no you do not need to go to college. However, the reason many places are dropping the 4 year degree requirement is because of the pilot shortage. Once were out of the shortage i think we will start to see that requirement come back. I also dont think the major airlines will ever drop having a bachelors degree. Do you need it now? no. Will you need it in 15 years? maybe
I highly doubt the regional airlines will ever bring back the four year degree requirement. I also theorize that most major airlines will be dropping that undergraduate degree requirement as well in the not too distant future. It just isn't necessary to have a degree just to be the pilot of an aircraft as your skills come from your experience flying aircraft not some degree that probably has nothing to do with aviation.
Yeah dude, that's not including actually taking check rides and tests and all that. I can go to a community college and get the same education as you but that's not the same as commercial flight training through ATP.
In a future video, would you mind covering the topic of motion sickness? Have you ever had instances of motion sickness when flying or flown with someone who has? I’ve always struggled with this and while I have my PPL and got use to the sensations of flying, from time to time it creeps up on me.
Hey Garrett thanks for this video and I appreciate your answering my questions.I hope the Hawaii trip will be awesome looking forward to your video from there.Have fun!
cheers captain! i got my university offer 7 days ago and i’m proud to say that i’m finally on a path to becoming an airline pilot. bring it on 2020! one step at a time and i’ll eventually reach my destination 🇦🇺 🔥
hulyoTV hi I want to become a pilot in Aus to. I have no idea what to do lol. Can you please tell me stuff, like what ATAR you need to get, if you should go to flight school or go to uni and get an aviation degrees. Thanks
Bailey Madigan hey mate there are so many ways to become a pilot here. you could even start with a flight school now to study hard and get your wings. from there, you’d be able to start building your hours. i decided to go with the uni of south australia because of the opportunities they offer and the graduate satisfaction. look up the program syllabus that’s up on the UniSA website for aviation. it’ll say what ATAR you need, as well as the different pathways of getting into the uni. i’m sure if you’re passionate enough, you should be able smash it 😉
Troll Acc hey awesome! UNSW was my first choice because it’s ranked as the top uni in the country to study aviation. followed by UniSA which is the uni that gave me an offer. it’s best to have a back up uni in case your first choice doesn’t give you an offer. i’d suggest submitting an application to at least 2-3 unis. when you decide to study aviation, be ready to move in to a different state (if you’re taking the uni pathway to becoming a pilot) because unis offering both the bachelor of aviation and flight training are spread out across the country in different states. for reference, i submitted applications to UNSW, UniSA and Swinburne University of Technology. they are the unis that offer both- the bachelor of aviation and flight training. unlike in other unis where you’d need to have prior flying knowledge and no flight training involved. keep in mind also, prior to commencing flight training, you’ll go through interviews, health checks and aptitude test to ensure you’re in good health and right motivation to commence aviation study. qantas has a graduate program and since you’re taking the uni pathway, you should receive support from the industry such as pilots visiting your uni. i’m from WA and i’m moving to SA in 3 weeks to begin my study. if you do end up moving, i’d also suggest researching ‘youth allowance’ which would help finance your living away from home situation. it’d be sick if you end up in the same uni and we become mates. not sure about life after uni but i’ve decided to document my aviation journey on my insta so if you need reference, there ya go! pilots are in demand in australia so if you do well in uni, you surely got this bro! go ✈️ 🤘
Troll Acc my insta is julesmalalis and no worries my dude! also yeah, first choice is always the best. moving interstate is a big thing and flights can get expensive. i’ve worked it out and found out that i can only afford to come home once, or twice, a year if i save up well. good luck on your final year of high school bro. inbox away of you have other questions ✌️
ATP is good for doing it quick with an airline focus but they're a little bit restrictive in the airports they let instructors and students fly into so there's some stuff you won't learn about GA flying.
I have a discovery flight this Friday! I’ve also already applied to some colleges that have pathways to Major airlines. (I know it’s their regional affiliates)
Lamur Cribb I am in North Carolina. I have applied to Embry Riddle and Auburn. I feel that if I am going to college then I need to go somewhere with a strong aviation program to get a degree and all of my pilot requirements!
Nice one! Enjoy on your upcoming vacation and have fun in Hawaii 🤙 time to get some vitamin sea🌊🏖️ looking forward on your vlogs. Have a safe flight as always. 😊
I’m currently in the military I have 10 months left. ATP doesn’t take my GI bill so I’d be going to a community college that has a two year flight program. Does it really matter where you get your license from? And does military experience help you in the long run with getting hired on at the airlines ?
If you are seeking motivation always, plz stay with nature and animals, they can motivate you so much than anybody. You are master each and every platform. Time management is not hard it's, very easy.
Eric not really but depends on the airline like I went to an Air New Zealand open day and they said that what they really want is leadership, Communication and Self assessment.
Thanks Garret!! Out here in Arizona we have a lot of good weather and the opportunity for a lot of flying. We have a community college that is working with UND and you can get all your ratings and licenses in 18 months and transfer to UND or work as a CFI and get your 1250 hours.
Hey Garrett I’ve forgotten to ask you a question... actually I’d love to become a pilot I am on my PPL license right now but I got a problem : I am nearsighted. Allen Metz Bro yes you will, I personally know 3 instructors that did. Go to any of the regionals that flow into American or United and they’ll scoop you right up once you hit the company’s PIC turbine minimums. Quit shooting peoples dreams down because the didnt waste 4 years and $50K..

Question: do you have to pay for parking at the airport? Or does the company you fly for give you a parking pass or write it off or how does that work?
Hello from Colombia, I'm a commercial pilot with both licence from US(faa) and Colombia, I studied in Miami but I'm not US resident, do you thing there's a job opportunity in my case, where in US what airlines should I try? Or what do you recommend me to do, I'm 23 years old.... You're the best..

Abdou Malik But isn’t med school going to cost a small fortune as well? I’m an airline pilot and my wife is a doctor and she came out of school with 4 times the amount of debt that I had. Take a look man, it might be more affordable than you think.
William Bryan you’re right. I left dental school for aviation and never looked back :) cost me less than 1/4 of what I would have paid for dental school for all my ratings and in the long run, the pay is relatively similar.
Since you asked, I'd like to see more Aviation videos. As far as Pilot type of videos explaining and giving details. Not really interested in the blogs and vacations. Other than that I'd #Flywithgarret lol
Joshua Hammock I understand that lol. We have similar builds yet the regular shirts don’t form fit. My guess is their tailored, which is probably what I’ll end up doing.
