His body determined the best way to confront the Hulk was to not confront the Hulk at all and Darwin gained teleportation powers and promptly teleported himself out of the Hulk's path of destruction
That's a great point, I'm X-Men First Class they killed him with an energy like bomb but he won't just adapt, he would use it back. I guess they wanted to kill of the one black guy on the team.
@@bswtsp21 besides even if I do manage to bring him in you'll have to add in the other X-Men and marvel already has a clean cut line up with their movies.
Lol Not quite....perhaps. Remember Rob put freakin Sabertooth in this series. As if there isn't plenty characters within the mcu that couldn't thrash Sabertooth.
I'm Confused you’re right AND you’re wrong. If you’re talking about old school Sabretooth you have to add immense stealth and cunning to his skill/power set in which case he becomes nearly unbeatable.
Rhett M Darwin is able to adapt to and resist Omega level attacks in the comics. It’s only the movie version that can’t adapt to a localized NUKE literally shoved down his throat.
Darwin can't beat Hulk cuz his body doesn't work that way. His mutant ability is survival, not to be stronger than his foe. When he did go against the hulk he developed the ability to absorb radiation instead of super strength or something. At some point, Darwin's body realized it couldn't survive the hulk so it developed teleportation to get away instead.
He was fighting World Breaker Hulk. Easiest way to survive is to not be on the world. Doesn't mean that he couldn't win if his powers where offensive though. He could just adapt the ability to absorb gamma radiation or the Sentry's pheromones to turn Hulk back into Bruce Banner. It's just more work than moving him and his powers are defensive. But Darwin can beat the Hulk.
@@CornBreadtm1 well, if the situation called for it, like the two of them were stuck in a space that can not be moved out of and the only way to leave would be to have one of them be beaten, then I suppose yes.
@@CornBreadtm1 he DID adapt radiation absorption, but his body quit absorbing radiation to just teleport him away from the danger. Again, Darwin's ability is not to win, it's to not die. Thus the only time he would beat the Hulk is if that was the only way to survive.
I think that is a good reference to develop te character. Darwin was scared shitless facing the Hulk, so his adaption was a flight response adaption, they should develop the character and work in his state of mind affecting how his body adapts, like if he's angry and against a wall it could be an offensive adaption, so if not freaked out by Hulk maybe adapt in another direction.
Can you think of a way to beat the hulk without using magic, teleportation, or reality warping? he has a healing factor and basically limitless strength and resilience, so the more he gets beaten down the stronger he gets, as far as I know he can't be beaten with any physical force.
@@kurtlindner that's not really true at all. Darwin himself was very much down to fight, his body just realized getting out of there was the smarter play. It had already tried strength and Gamma energy absorption. Hulk even comments that it wasn't the first time Gamma drain had been tried on him and there was a reason villains stopped using it. He puts out too much energy these days.
@@Nyghtking -pull Hulk back down to Earth in the writing. He, like many characters, has simply grown out of control (I mean, a long time ago, and still is), and his powerset needs to be re-addressed.
Aren't Darwin's powers mostly/purely defensive? I mean, I doubt the Avengers could kill him, but I don't see him punching out Thor or the Hulk anytime soon either.
Yea that's a problem. Like Rob says he could evolve to stomp the Hulk. Darwin tried this during World War Hulk. His body said NOPE, evolved one-way teleportation, and warped him out of there.
@@NeoConker626 if he was put in a sitation where he had no option but to fight the hulk he might have evolved to fight him but at best he would be able to stall him indefinitely, he wouldn't actually be able to beat the hulk as no physical force can actually beat the hulk.
Sort of. Because his powers can go either way depending on how his evolution goes. Against World War Hulk, he initially gained the ability to absorb Gamma radiation, it just didn't work and he also gained strength, but again that didn't work. So finally his body teleported away. You can never know how Darwin's powers will react until they do. Sort of like how his counter to Hela's death touch was to also become a death god.
@@Nyghtking I mean...literally evolved to teleport. So the situation would have to be super contrived, like in a dimension that blocks teleportation or flight. Even then he may develop super speed.
@@LupineShadowOmega exactly yes. It's super situational and even he cant really predict higher tier stuff. Basics sure. He can reliably guess that putting his head underwater will get him gills or jumping out of a plane may get him wings.
Love how his adaptation's solution to the Hulk was to bail out... You gotta do a heirachy series ranking all the Earth based characters from the weakest to strongest.
Isn't Cyclops' power always active also? That's why he needs the special glass to either neutralize the beam that's always coming out of his eyes or fine tune the strength of the beam?
I really hated that they killed Darwin off in the Xmen movie! Like he adapts to everything in order to survive and a kinetic power ball killed him... BullllllllllllSheeeeeeeeeeyyyyyt
In reference to hulk and Darwin. Seems like the best option would be to mimic "blob like" powers or to become intangible. Then you don't have to address the limitless hulk strength.
Actually, as I'm almost certain someone else has probably already pointed out, Darwin did face the Hulk once, and his power adapted to keep him alive.... by Teleporting him the frack away from the Incredible Hulk!! ^_^: comicnewbies.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/darwin-vs-the-hulk.jpg
What happens if you just lock Darwin inside a room? If his body needs to be under threat in order to adapt, if hes never under threat itll never activate. So if you just lock him in a room without threatening his life, why would he adapt to that situation? I dont think it would. I mean, perhaps if he bangs on the door and tries to break it down, sensing his distress and perhaps some self inflicted damage he might activate his ability to get the strenght to take down the door or walls of the room, but I dont know.
His abilities are somewhat influenced by his emotions, so as you stated his body will eventual react to his distress and trigger some ability where he could leave the room. Also his life doesn't have to be in any danger per se for his abilities to activate as he was able to see in the dark with no immediate threat around him.
His powers wouldn't kick in unless he is in danger i guess like if he was dying of starvation or thirst he would be able to escape or just adapt to jo longer need food or water
The only problem you have is that Darwin power really just keeps him alive, it doesn't mean he's just gonna overpower them. The reason I say that is because he was placed against the hulk and didn't gain more strength to beat him but his power teleported him away.
I love Darwin's power. Always one of my favourites. Though I remember his power not exactly evolving as a counter to the problem. Like fighting the Hulk, I think I remember a story where to protect himself from the attack his body teleported him away to a random location because it was easier than countering the actual attack.
7:45 I can't help but point out the overall reason he couldn't work -whatever adaptation he took on as an answer would be useless or perfect. Fighting Hulk for example, why get strong as a defensive measure, turn unto rubber, or non-corporeal; or if he's in space why is breathing the solution, what about a hibernation state that preserves his resources -now that sounds like an evolutionary adaption. So either he's the answer to all your problems (thank you, Darwin ex Machina), or he turns into a cloud and everyone else is screwed.
I don't feel like Scott Summers' power should be considered "active". His eyes emit energy, and the only way to stop it is to keep his eyes closed or wear special glasses, etc. But the point is, him opening his eyes isn't him activating his power, it's him deactivating the thing that is preventing his power from being utilized. For practical purposes, his power is being used as an activated power, as he doesn't walk around as a living beam of destruction, but his power seems incredibly "passive" to me, since his power just sort of does its thing outside of external intervention. I'd say maybe I have the wrong idea here, but the things you did list as passive such as healing factors also have external intervention tools, such as Carbonadium. Scott Summers' energy beams can run out when the energy source he draws from runs out, just like healing factors can eventually run out. TL;DR I think Scott Summer powers are passive, not active. I'd love some input on this to help me clarify things.
It's active cuz he can control the nature of the beams. He can make them concussive or make them penetrative. Also, there have been cases of when he COULD control if the beams came out or not even if he wasn't closing his eyes or wearing a visor/glasses.
@@bswtsp21 Yeah, I knew about the dimension thing, but I guess I passed out on him having any control over the nature of the beams and such. And I guess it depends on the context of him learning to turn the beams on and off even without closing his eyes or wearing special eye gear, but that does make it appear more active. So is the thing with his power that it seems passive because in reality he just always has it activated because he never learned how to turn it off, and in those specific moments he learns how to turn it off, or what?
Jay Kay more like, the door is always unlocked cuz he unlocked it then broke the key off inside the keyhole so it can’t be locked without replacing the lock itself.
Jay Kay also think of it like it’s supposed to be, a genetic mutation that is active. He’s always had it in his genes, hence him being a mutant as opposed to a mutate like Spider-Man. He activated the genes through trauma.
Hey Rob happy 2019!! Have followed your contents for about two years and still love it Could you do a top ten marvel runs you've read (so far) again keep up the good work and Happy 19 :)
Bringing him back would be an easy retcon in the Fox films, just have him reform or explain that he reformed... not that anyone needs to worry about that now that they are handing the X-Men to Disney.
Great inlet Rob. I think he'd be astonishing in the movies if any for the mystique of his candor ;the mutant power that. Like a cool ass recap/cameo of Darwin birdwatching and suddenly retorting X-ray vision as a driven baseball wisps by a ren. "Gizzards??", "Mrs Taggortt what'th'~you said you used to eating such a thing in back in Scotland";"
Rob, While watching x-men on TV I was wondering... Is Sebastien Shaw (black king) an (above) omega level mutant? How does his energy absorption/manipulation compare among others? What are the limits of his absorption? And is there a difference, in terms of power, between his portrayal in the MCU and comics?
Thank you, for not just explaining events; but, also explains why writers write certain parts of stories. I am working on my own graphic novel (have been for 5 years simply bc that's not my one & only job. I have two jobs, as it it is)... But, you're actually helping to teach me WHY to write certain portions of my story. Make them mean something @ have an inner, if not DEEPER, meaning behind each event. Not to just write events, for the sake of them happening. Heroes will die, and I had reasons both in the events of the story AND worrying reasonings themselves. But, that's it. You've helped me to realize different ways of writing, and I've been completing short creative writings and short stories since middle school...or even grade school. Thank you, again, Mr. Rob!
there's just one problem with the Hulk in the planet Hulk storyline Hulk comes back to Earth and faces off with the X-Men and Darwin is there and his body teleport him out of the situation because it knows that the only way to survive is to run
That was its final solution against what was at that time one of the strongest versions of the Hulk that has ever been. His first adaption was Gamma energy absorption.
Hulk in the MCU is weak AF compared to the comics. In the MCU his powers would just turn Darwin into Black Widow and make Hulk turn back into Bruce and win.
Can you do a Beta Ray Bill video? He's mah fave and there has been some set shots of avengers 4 w/ Beta Ray Bill in the background... so... he's relevant atm? Please? Purtty please?
Would Darwin be able to adapt like in secret wars when the multiverses collided. Could he defeat the creature that fought against mad him jaspers like when that universe was destroyed
Hey rob, love the videos. If it isn't too much to ask can you make a video talking about Mister Sinister? Bonus points for using background footage from the animated X-Men series
@Lujack Shaw I see what you mean buuuuuut he also can gain powers, his strength can increase, he can teleport, he can become intangible, all situational however.
If the hammer just pins him down and not actively crush him, I don't think it will kick in. But if someone attempts to execute hime while he is pinned down, I suppose there is a variety of options. Teleportation, intangibility, invulnerability, etc.
@@legendarycreator8519 Darwin cannot change the environment. Only himself. So I don't think Darwin's ability lets him convince the external force called the God Tempest that he is worthy. Unless Darwin's ability changes his own body, brain, and personality to give himself a worthy mindset and persona.
He could always carry objects to set off his defensive mechanisms example: capsule of poison and he eats it so he could basically turn on poison immunity at any time. Etc.
You make some awesome videos. It brings me back to 6th grade, and secret wars. Can you do some what if reviews. I remember 1 where the watchers and celestials foughts. There some big watchers. Or what if ultimate nullifier
I would disagree with your classification of Cyclops' power as being active. True he does activate it using his shades or removing his glasses, but the power itself is always active, ie passive. He can just use outside means to suppress it but its still always on even with his eyes closed. He has no control over wether his eyes project those beams or not.
kindaaa new to this channel and the whole comic scene but do you have a seperate video on leech? he seemed really interesting when you brought him up and id love to learn more.
In the Worldbreaker hulk comic books when hulk fought the x men Darwin adapted to absorb his gamma rays but he became overwhelmed and couldn’t absorb all of it
He could NOT adapt to fighting the hulk. His body thought the hulk was too strong so he developed teleportation to immediately get him away from the hulk. It has it’s limits.
His body tries at least three different things first. And then teleport was its final solution (against World War Hulk), but even then we've also had him become a god of Death to counter Hela trying to death touch him. So, limits...I don't know about that...
@@LupineShadowOmega think your argument refutes its self. When presented a death god, his body manifested a way to survive in the situation. Be one too. When confronted with WB hulk...his body tried multiple times to evoke a survival mechanism in the situation before evolving a survival mechanism to leave it. Death god, stand and fight, WB hulk, run far far far away
@@AddamMiller One it wasn't World Beaker Hulk, it was World War Hulk. Two, he stood and faught against Hulk, much longer than he ever stood against Hela. Third, against the Hulk he pointed out that said teleportation was probably the best answer, because the Hulk wasn't even out to hurt him personally. Meanwhile Hela tries to kill him. The answers are always going to be different when it comes to his powers, we've seen that enough because he's never even taken a fall the same way twice. One time his entire skeletal system became rubbery, another he's become lighter than air. So, its obvious that it isn't about his limits, its about it being reflexive and him not being able to guide where it goes. That's why he couldn't control himself after he became a Death god, he doesn't get a say in how things go.
Yeah, he was in X-Men: First Class. He was too powerful for the FOX-Men, and they probably figured that out after they shot scenes with him. So the director probably contrived a way to kill him off by substantially nerfing his powers.
MVG His power is to literally adapt to ANYTHING! So why the hell couldn’t he adapt to Sebastian Shaw’s blast???! Yet he’s the first character, first cliché BLACK character to die!
A lot of people have brought up Darwin’s fight with the hulk and I think that’s great because it does show one specific aspect to Darwin’s powers. When he was conscious and choosing to stay and fight his body adapted that gamma absorption power, when he was knocked out by the hulk his body adapted teleportation. So in actuality Darwin is immortal because it doesn’t matter if he’s awake or asleep, he won’t age and any damage he does take will be handled unconsciously by his body. If the hulk could teleport or follow him then I’m sure his body would have come up with a way to travel through time or move to another dimension. Simply put, because Darwin is able to evolve in any way and in the marvel universe there are a limitless number of mutational abilities. There is no power Darwin could not have. Truly beyond omega level. It’s insane
I think originally it was omega/beyond omega level characters (was originally just mutants until he started doing non mutant characters). Basically the same but maybe with a few changes
@@pr0gam3r42 ive thought about the snap before and think its interesting because id say it would come down to if being erased counts as dying because if he isnt actually dying than I dont see why his body would react but if it did count than Id say he body would adapt to travel to another universe where he wouldnt be erased
It’s actually a really intelligent name considering his powers. Charles Darwin was the man who came up with the evolution theory and since Darwin’s power is adapting its very fitting
Someone already said it but I thought it too. If Darwin adapts to things so well how come in X-Men First Class he made himself a black guy in the 1960s lmao
He was born black both in comics and the movie though he might be mixed I dont know if they ever showed his father. His powers aren't intellegent. Think of it this way the power responds to the simulus of a bullet by turning him bullet proof. But it doesnt know the reason for the bullet.
I think Marvel can use the First Class move to bring Darwin in to the MCU with the other mutants. 1. Darwin falls into a stone stasis coma , simultaneously protecting against and feeding off of shaw’s energy. 2. With Darwin’s body dependent on energy it reaches out to the energy used when Tony snaps the infinity stones. 3. Upon connecting to the energy, Darwin’s body is recreated in the MCU and activating the mutant gene in the nearby residents.
Do Chaos King, Oblivion, Silver Surfer or Galactus video too because, in my opinion, they are also too powerful for the MCU. Or just a video about how you imagine that they will introduce cosmic entities to the MCU. (Sorry for my bad english)
In World War Hulk, Darwin came into conflict with the Hulk. The "adaptation" that occurred, was his body teleported him hundreds of miles away from the Hulk. In fact, at 6:58, rob even shows the panel where he's hit and teleported away.
But Rob, Darwin isn’t too powerful for the MCU. How can that be when X-men: First Class killed him off within minutes of his introduction? You know, other than terrible writing.
Correction: Cyclops ocular blasts are not active, he can't turn it off. It's always on. If his eyes are open so are the portals, the portals are still there when they are closed.
re: Hulk vs Darwin @ 6:49 you show those panels from, if I remember correctly, "World War Hulk vs Xmen" or something like that and it shows us what happens if he went up against the Hulk. His body could NOT adapt fast enough to withstand the Hulk's increasing strength. So his best defense was to remove himself from the equation
The one thing you don't mention is that while he adapts he doesn't control how he adapts whatsoever. Like if he went underwater he may grow gills or he may just not need to breathe, theres no way of knowing how he'll adapt. That's his one "weakness" if you could call it that.
Whoa! Why did you mention all that about the Hulk fighting Darwin and overlook the truth of what happens... Darwin doesn't get stronger and go on a war path of his own when they fight, Darwin ability to adapt teleports him out of the fight completely, because that's what his adaption ability decides is best when faced against the Hulk unlimited strength. 😑 This video was a let down, Darwin, should be in the MCU, he's not to powerful. As mentioned yourself, it's mostly defensive and worked well during its limited time in the x-men movie. *sigh* why does this series even exist, how about talking about who would be great to bring into the MCU instead... I miss the old days of this channel
agreed. i enjoyed this serie in the beginning because it teaches alot about overpowered characters, but nowadays he says it wouldnt work because this comic character compared to this mcu character, which is a extremely stupid reasoning to say they wouldnt work. if there was no hulk in the mcu and you looked at the hulk comics you would think nah that dude too op. same with thor dr.strange thanos, but by nerfinf them they make em work, and thats what rob is missing to include. i think his other series where he talked about omega level and beyond was better because atleast there he didnt compare comic strength to the mcu.
@@NTTofMistery That's my main grief too. If you're comparing MCU to nonMCU variants, there's a significant difference there. Thor in the comics could travel throughtime, MCU Thor is just a strong/resistant alien.
I love this video and the power of adaptability. In a story I'm writing my main character is fighting someone with total adaptability on the same level as Darwin, Doomsday and the Fury. The only way to kill Darwin (and characters like him) is to continually hit them with new attacks fast enough that they can't adapt to them until they're overwhelmed OR one-shot them with tremendous force. I don't know if Darwin would survive Thor's God Blast, or one punch from World Breaker Hulk, or if a reality warper like Franklin Richards decided to turn him into a butterfly. It's a really interesting topic though and I'm glad you did the video.
Hey Rob im subscribed and i was thinking of something new you could do for your content: Hypothetical superhero/villains. Various mixings and matches of what if scenarios for characters and power combos, come up with yourself or by fans, excluding anything (w/ a potentially pre-determined list of exclusions) that would create a "just send in _____" to solve any conceivable issue, or anything that would literally allow for "clean slate" writing; i.e. no reality warping/manipulation (especially not on a cosmic scale, but DOES NOT necessarily exclude powers that if on a high enough scale AMOUNT to reality warping), power cosmic, 1000x SSS of the sentry, cosmic entities, infinity gauntlet etc. A comics experts of your like could come up with a more in depth and well-reasoned list for yourself and fans to follow. One way you could receive submissions from fans, is you could take them through tweets with a specific hashtag dterined by you for this content and fans could both submit with the hashtag or comb through the hashtag and fav/rt ones they like they most, and any you find interesting or have a lot of rt's you can do. (Maybe even do hypothetical stories for these characters? Ask artistic fans to create artworks of favorite hypotheticals? & even submit hypothetical hypothetical characters/power combos of characters to comic book artists/writers? ) Here's some of my favorites: #1) Wolverine with 1, 2, 3, all 4 or any combo of the following, in order from fav to least: -regular SSS -carnage symbiote -venom symbiote -proto adamantium skeleton #2) Sabretooth DNA manipulated to make clones, results in sabretooth version of x-23 #3) the above w/ SSS, or a symbiote (hypothetical SSS &/or symbiote series?) my personal favorite possibility: #4)Wolverine + sabretooth DNA combined into a clone with the combo of their strengths & abilities (female of-course, & double the healing factor, the ferocity of sabretooth, and agility/athleticism of the female counterpart, with the foot claws), given the regular SSS, which is said to push the physical capabilities of the person to their limit, so imagine someone with the strength of wolverine (sabretooth + wolverine, but shes a woman= strength of wolverine?) pushed to its limit, physical durability of her flesh pushed to its limit, and her healing factor pushed to its limit (SSS improves healing of person by x amount of times ive heard? how much more effective then would the healing factor of someone with the combined healing factor of wolverine and sabretooth be?). This person would hopefully as i imagine them, have the claws of wolverine, except 4, and 1/3 the length, 2 claws in the foot instead of 1, and can detach her claws at will and grow new ones almost instantly, but even more animalistic nature than sabretooth (running on all fours, standing on toes, etc) hightened senses, increased further by the SSS, every capability of wolverine and sabretooth (except strength) doubled and pushed to its limit by SSS. This person would theoretically take the admantium like a champ. It would not come close to killing them at all, and with such a powerful healing factor, they could handle adamantium poisoning indefinitely. W/ such a physically healthy body symbiotes would love her. But this character, as I fantasize, takes on the carnage symbiote, but is able to control it, and is the dominant one in the relationship, unlike the usual(?) other way around, and the symbiote even becomes loyal to the character and considers her their master, and submit to their will completely, but doesn't lose any of the benefits of being a 2 man conscious team. Plus after a long period of bonding with the symbiote, she even gains spidermans spider sense, on top of her already super enhanced animal instincts (but no web shooters or anything). I call this characters comic story: " WEAPON X: reloaded; prototype perfected" superhero/villain alias (chosen by herself due to personal history): weapon X. or feral, or fang, feral claw, or something like that, that pays homage to her origins. Hypothetical backstory: The x-men themselves, decide to restart the weapon x program, for the defense of earth in the future agaisnt un-forseeable threats, and commission the help the of their smartest, richest, and most powerful friends and organizations from around the world, to create the perfect weapons, to succeed the avengers in the future when the clones mature, and train them from birth to adulthood specifically for this purpose for the first 20 years of their life, and manage to succeed in creating only (1-17?) clones out their attempted (30-120?), with her being one of them, knowing that many would likely fail due to the instability and incompatibility of powers, so in order to have a higher chance of success, they needed to splice genes and powers that would ideally work synergystically and compliment each other, rather than stacking powers, due to the increased likelihood of failure as the number of powers, and the incompatibility of whatever powers are combined, increases. Hence, wolverine + sabretooth, and the foreseeable possibility to handle the SSS and adamantium. #5) susan storm with 1-all rings of power: #6) Johnny storm with the pheonix force (hypothetical pheonix force power amplification series?) #7) Captain america dies and gives Our favorite hammer wielding friend his shield (proto version), allowing him to wield this & mjolnir. #8) Nidavalier dwarves get hold of vibranium, study it, and craft uru-vibranium allows, to create weapons that can accomplish things that are only possible with vibranium exploitation (kinetic energy absorption and rechannelling etc) #9) magneto gets a hold of mjolnir and caps shield, or instead of the shield, any 2 asgardian weapons and controls them magnetically as his own weapons (without ever actually holding them, just to look cool) #10) Bucky Barnes (WITH SSS, W/ robotic arm) becomes the new hulk, and they have a new hulk sized arm for him, or one that changes to match his size. So an exponentially powerful hulk, but with only one arm, and a metal replacement, ideally vibranium or adamantium. #11) sabretooth has a kid with kitty pryde, & it has both their powers. or has his DNA combined with susan storms, and a clone is created with both their powers. (sabretooth, male or female, with ability to go through walls/solid objects, or turn invisible.) so yeah this could be a fun thing to do on your channel. Maybe if fans really like it you can use fan submitted artwork in the video to talk about them. Maybe you can ask fans to submit artwork for ones you plan to do.
Just for clarification, isn't Darwin's powers more about surviving? Like you said, he'd mostly just be impossible to kill b/c his body would adapt to whatever is trying to kill him. That wouldn't necessarily mean he could beat his attacker right?
Not sure if it's been said elsewhere, but... There's one flaw with your idea regarding Darwin versus the Incredible Hulk. So each time his body takes damage it decides the best action to take, based on recent damage, not just the hit that it had just had. As such, when he did face up against someone who was exceedingly powerful, rather than adopting two the offense of power in the form of face tanking and staying there, his body adopted the power to teleport and send him elsewhere.
Could you maybe do a quick briefing on the war of realms that's coming up next year? It seems like a multi-faceted storyline, with multiple events happening at once coming to a culminating point on earth.
Actually there are limits to his abdication. As in one of the comic panels you show when something is too extreme for his body to adapt and overcome it his body comes to the conclusion that the best way to survive is to move from elsewhere is his body will teleport him away from the perceived Danger
@@aidanwagner118 even energy can be altered beyond recognition hence the reason why on occasion his body will decide that the best defense is not to be there. Dude can you pleaseeee do a video on the recent spiderverse movie? Perhaps power scaling or if the story actually follows along the comic guidelines! Much love.
Better term would be that his body does what it needs to to make sure he survives, not necessarily overcome the obstacle, just survive, that’s why he blipped away when he tried to fight worldbreaker hulk
What you are saying makes sense. Edi Gathegi played Darwin in X-Men: First Class. He died in the first half of the film. Why wasn't he able to adapt to adapt to his attacker?
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't Cyclops' ability be a passive power? It's always on regardless of whether he wants it on or not. I know he can close his eyes, but it's not something he "activates" like Iceman's abilities.
I'm pretty sure someone mentioned this already but whatever. During World War Hulk Darwin did encounter the Hulk. Initially his body tried to syphon the power from the Hulk. In response to actually getting hit his body chose the path of least resistance and teleported him away.
I know this guy is cool and all, but I just want to point out that when asked about the Hulk, he said the best defense was “To be some where else”. Don’t remember what comic it was though. I know this is kind of random, but a cool moment none the less

Wasnt there a comic were he fought the hulk and the only way to adapt to fight him was to teleport away?

Not to mention, his ability is proactive nor on purpose, it's reactive and automatic.
So the way he solves problems is by forcing himself into a situation in which his body MUST change in order to manage the problem present.
Cant belive you didnt talk about him teleporting away from world breaker Hulk .....
It was the most logical thing to do, you can't beat him so don't be where he is
I think that is a good reference to develop te character.

In reference to hulk and Darwin. Seems like the best option would be to mimic "blob like" powers or to become intangible. Then you don't have to address the limitless hulk strength.
I really like this response. Either that, or change state into something gaseous perhaps although I don’t recall him doing this before
Like the comic said, the best adaptation to the hulk is to be somewhere else
Ultimate absorption. Just absorb all of hulks gamma radiation that turns hulk to banner, like silver surfer did
He adapted in the comics by getting the fuck outta there.
3:33 Cyclops' power is passive.
he just has an uncontrollable ray of energy constantly shooting out from his eyes.
IIRC there was some brain damage or trauma or something that caused him to lose control, but at birth he could control them.
Darwin already appeared in X-Men: First Class. It was, ultimately, a very weak and forgettable portrayal of the character.
Hi Rob, can you do a video on Shang-Chi and how you think he can fit in within the MCU? Thanks.
Also his life doesn't have to be in any danger per se for his abilities to activate as he was able to see in the dark with no immediate threat around him.
pablo popo Is your question asking if he would die, or if he’d just be powerless forever?
How does one “unalive” Darwin

7:45 I can't help but point out the overall reason he couldn't work -whatever adaptation he took on as an answer would be useless or perfect. Fighting Hulk for example, why get strong as a defensive measure, turn unto rubber, or non-corporeal; or if he's in space why is breathing the solution, what about a hibernation state that preserves his resources -now that sounds like an evolutionary adaption.
So either he's the answer to all your problems (thank you, Darwin ex Machina), or he turns into a cloud and everyone else is screwed.
Darwin admitted himself, the only way to counter Hulk, was to stay out of his way
I don't feel like Scott Summers' power should be considered "active".
Also, if I'm not mistaken his laser things come from a dimension of infinite energy?
@@bswtsp21
Yeah, I knew about the dimension thing, but I guess I passed out on him having any control over the nature of the beams and such.
Can he adapt to having his bank account wiped out and stocks liquidated? Lol

Rob,
While watching x-men on TV I was wondering...
Keep'm coming Rob. I actually wished for a channel like this my lifetime. Thanks man.

@Lujack Shaw I see what you mean buuuuuut he also can gain powers, his strength can increase, he can teleport, he can become intangible, all situational however.
@Lujack Shaw he can. It all depends on the situation.
I would disagree with your classification of Cyclops' power as being active. True he does activate it using his shades or removing his glasses, but the power itself is always active, ie passive. He can just use outside means to suppress it but its still always on even with his eyes closed. He has no control over wether his eyes project those beams or not.

Good choice
In the Worldbreaker hulk comic books when hulk fought the x men Darwin adapted to absorb his gamma rays but he became overwhelmed and couldn’t absorb all of it
He could NOT adapt to fighting the hulk. His body thought the hulk was too strong so he developed teleportation to immediately get him away from the hulk. It has it’s limits.
It's not a limit 😂😂😂😂 it's part of his abilities, ooop I can't fight the Hulk best get the fuck outta there 😂
his body decided that was the best course for survival but what is darwin had no choice to kill hulk to survive...
Every time i glance over the thumbnail all I see is an old, bald sombra
Was he in the X-Men movie? The guy that could adapt to anything, yet died anyway?
Yeah dude
John Smith it was a cheap death and we all know it.
John Smith it's obvious why he died and it's just become comical at this point.
It’s insane
Didn’t he already do this video? Is this a re-upload or a redo?
I think originally it was omega/beyond omega level characters (was originally just mutants until he started doing non mutant characters). Basically the same but maybe with a few changes
He does the same stuff too much any more for me.
He talked about Darwin before, but not in the MCU.
I believe it was about his origin & history.
I like that darwin power when facing the hulk just teleported him away long distance knowing darwin couldn't take on the hulk

I wonder could he adapt to the snap
@@pr0gam3r42 ive thought about the snap before and think its interesting because id say it would come down to if being erased counts as dying because if he isnt actually dying than I dont see why his body would react but if it did count than Id say he body would adapt to travel to another universe where he wouldnt be erased
I like that his alias is just darwin, for a guy that's practically invincible you don't expect a regular name

Charles Darwin was the man who came up with the evolution theory and since Darwin’s power is adapting its very fitting

Happy New Year, ComicsExplained! Well wishes to you and all!
Someone already said it but I thought it too. If Darwin adapts to things so well how come in X-Men First Class he made himself a black guy in the 1960s lmao
In the comics he get lighter in cities...His powers are like, "Black powerrrr.... it's a cop! Abort! Turn white!"
would it matter since they couldn't kill him anyways.
Too powerful for the MCU but expendable in the eyes of Fox Studios
You should do a video on red goblin or the time wolverine became the dark Phoenix (Or anything with Constantine and or sandman)
It's amazing how many words you can spit out in 10 minutes, while giving almost NO real information...it's almost like a superpower.
Do Chaos King, Oblivion, Silver Surfer or Galactus video too because, in my opinion, they are also too powerful for the MCU. Or just a video about how you imagine that they will introduce cosmic entities to the MCU. (Sorry for my bad english)
Rob your videos are awesome
In World War Hulk, Darwin came into conflict with the Hulk. The "adaptation" that occurred, was his body teleported him hundreds of miles away from the Hulk. In fact, at 6:58, rob even shows the panel where he's hit and teleported away.
But Rob, Darwin isn’t too powerful for the MCU. How can that be when X-men: First Class killed him off within minutes of his introduction?
You know, other than terrible writing.
That was completely terrible writing, no other factor.
Correction: Cyclops ocular blasts are not active, he can't turn it off. It's always on. If his eyes are open so are the portals, the portals are still there when they are closed.
MOY-RAH not MORE-AH. Her name is still not pronounced the way you keep pronouncing it...
re: Hulk vs Darwin @ 6:49 you show those panels from, if I remember correctly, "World War Hulk vs Xmen" or something like that and it shows us what happens if he went up against the Hulk. His body could NOT adapt fast enough to withstand the Hulk's increasing strength. So his best defense was to remove himself from the equation
Wasn't he in that X Men Movie????
Yes but he got killed on the xmen first class movie by kevin bacon's character sebastion shaw
That's not mcu
Remy Melanie agreed
agreed. i enjoyed this serie in the beginning because it teaches alot about overpowered characters, but nowadays he says it wouldnt work because this comic character compared to this mcu character, which is a extremely stupid reasoning to say they wouldnt work. if there was no hulk in the mcu and you looked at the hulk comics you would think nah that dude too op. same with thor dr.strange thanos, but by nerfinf them they make em work, and thats what rob is missing to include.
i think his other series where he talked about omega level and beyond was better because atleast there he didnt compare comic strength to the mcu.
Adapting in a fight against the Hulk; Otherwise known as 'nope-ing the fuck outta there' lmao
@@NTTofMistery That's my main grief too. If you're comparing MCU to nonMCU variants, there's a significant difference there. Thor in the comics could travel throughtime, MCU Thor is just a strong/resistant alien.
You finally mentioned Fitzroy!!!
3:30 Darwin looks just like The Mask played by Jim Carry... I love his earlier work like Ace Ventura
& even submit hypothetical hypothetical characters/power combos of characters to comic book artists/writers? )
Here's some of my favorites:
#1) Wolverine with 1, 2, 3, all 4 or any combo of the following, in order from fav to least:
-regular SSS
-carnage symbiote
-venom symbiote
-proto adamantium skeleton
#2) Sabretooth DNA manipulated to make clones, results in sabretooth version of x-23
#3) the above w/ SSS, or a symbiote (hypothetical SSS &/or symbiote series?)
my personal favorite possibility: #4)Wolverine + sabretooth DNA combined into a clone with the combo of their strengths & abilities (female of-course, & double the healing factor, the ferocity of sabretooth, and agility/athleticism of the female counterpart, with the foot claws), given the regular SSS, which is said to push the physical capabilities of the person to their limit, so imagine someone with the strength of wolverine (sabretooth + wolverine, but shes a woman= strength of wolverine?) pushed to its limit, physical durability of her flesh pushed to its limit, and her healing factor pushed to its limit (SSS improves healing of person by x amount of times ive heard? how much more effective then would the healing factor of someone with the combined healing factor of wolverine and sabretooth be?).
#5) susan storm with 1-all rings of power:
#6) Johnny storm with the pheonix force (hypothetical pheonix force power amplification series?)
#7) Captain america dies and gives Our favorite hammer wielding friend his shield (proto version), allowing him to wield this & mjolnir.
#8) Nidavalier dwarves get hold of vibranium, study it, and craft uru-vibranium allows, to create weapons that can accomplish things that are only possible with vibranium exploitation (kinetic energy absorption and rechannelling etc)
#9) magneto gets a hold of mjolnir and caps shield, or instead of the shield, any 2 asgardian weapons and controls them magnetically as his own weapons (without ever actually holding them, just to look cool)
#10) Bucky Barnes (WITH SSS, W/ robotic arm) becomes the new hulk, and they have a new hulk sized arm for him, or one that changes to match his size. So an exponentially powerful hulk, but with only one arm, and a metal replacement, ideally vibranium or adamantium.
#11) sabretooth has a kid with kitty pryde, & it has both their powers. or has his DNA combined with susan storms, and a clone is created with both their powers. (sabretooth, male or female, with ability to go through walls/solid objects, or turn invisible.)
so yeah this could be a fun thing to do on your channel.
Lol, Darwin with the power of Lamarck🤣
Eliander Valderen if his body is destroyed he’ll just adapt to live as energy and he could evolve matter manipulation or reality warping powers
@@aidanwagner118 even energy can be altered beyond recognition hence the reason why on occasion his body will decide that the best defense is not to be there. When dealing with Krakatoa and deadly Genesis turn into living energy and being absorbed into his team-mate was the best survival strategy and that's why his body did so
Dude can you pleaseeee do a video on the recent spiderverse movie? Perhaps power scaling or if the story actually follows along the comic guidelines! Much love.
"Talking.. Like.. Shatner.." Lmao i love Deadpool
Favorite comic characters from DC: Mongul and Martian Manhunter; from marvel: The In-Betweener and Franklin Richards. I love you videos and would like to see any of these characters that have not been covered yet on your chanel!! (The In-Betweener may be a good start to another category: the most powerful losers)
