Captain Atom’s and Superman’s powersets are similar in terms of physics. The difference is that Superman has more cells inside him, whereas in Atom’s case it is just the shell and raw energy within. Superman and Atom absorb nuclear/solar energy similarly, but Superman has just a much more consistently higher energy battery capacity to go around. So, especially on days when Superman is not basking on the surface of the sun casually, Atom can put up a fight….. not win, but definitely give Clark run for his money.
"I never realized how powerful Captain Atom was...." I always assumed he was more or less equivalent to Dr. Manhattan. Because DC wouldn't let Morrison use pre-existing characters for Watchmen.
I mean he’s strong but he’s never been written like this before. Basically everyone has a story out there that makes them seem like the strongest to ever exist.. this is just that kind of story for CA
So Tom King just went full Tom King all over Captain Atom. Yaaaay. For the record, Captain Atom IS powerful, but ever since he was used as the template for Dr. Manhattan, people have kept trying to turn him into discount Dr. Manhattan. Which is not what Captain Atom is about. Captain Atom was called that because his original powers were due to atomic radiation, and it turned him into a guy who was superstrong, durable, could fly, survive without air, phase through matter and fire atomic energy blasts. He wasn't a matter manipulator, he was Charlton Comic's answer to Superman, but with a few quirks such as being a military man and having to have his body coated in a metallic material to contain the radiation his body emitted when he was powered up. Later, DC changed it so that his body was coated with an alien metal that allowed him to tap into this other dimensional energy source called the Quantum realm, which made him superstrong, nigh-invulnerable, let him fly, survive without food or water, fire energy blasts, absorb energy, detect energy, and a few other tricks. He generally wasn't as strong/tough as Superman, but was close enough to make a fight of it, and had more powerful energy related abilities. The JLU version of Captain Atom was more or less a pure energy being in a containment suit. This version was made noticeably weaker than Superman, to the point that using Red Solar radiation didn't truly even the odds, as Superman had a pretty decisive victory. Then we had the whole mess with the Post Infinite Crisis takes on Captain Atom where he was the Monarch, but then he was a Dr. Manhattan knock off, but then he was his old self, and they basically couldn't agree on anything. The Nu-52 version made it even worse. This story sounds like Tom King more or less taking some of the worst takes on Nate, the idea of him being a Dr. Manhattan knock off disconnected from humanity, being some all powerful matter and energy manipulator, and then using him to air out his own various issues and do his usual deconstructive storytelling. Captain Atom isn't really supposed to be some kind of all powerful, Dr. Manhattan like entity (and people forget that Manhattan wasn't all powerful either, and only seemed godlike because he was the only superhero in his world). Captain Atom was supposed to be more akin to someone like War Machine, USAgent and other heroes who were aligned with the US government and military, and the conflict would come from his personal morality versus his orders at the time. He was strong and tough, but at least one tier below Superman strong and tough. He was more powerful and versatile than Superman when it came to energy powers, and between his other powers he was perfectly fine as someone who was both a hero and someone who could go toe-to-toe with other high powered heroes to keep them in check.

@@davidselawsky6620are you seriously coping that hard 😂 he’s a dude that can control matter. He disintegrates Superman atom by atom instantly with zero effort realistically
No, in physics, "intangible things" are not considered matter because matter is defined as anything that has mass and occupies space, and intangible things by definition lack a physical presence and cannot be measured in terms of mass or volume.
There are different kinds of intangible spiritual(gentleman ghost), dimensional(phantom girl), energy(Monica Rambeau) , vibrational(flash), hologram(shard) and mass shifting Mmh is just mass shifting and still can be affected by matter manipulation cuz his mass is still there but just spread out way more
The nerf on flash and superman in this was kinda annoying as well. But they've always had their power levels conveniently reduced when needed i guess (especially flash).
That’s why he said it was close but still not the same. Matter manipulation, according to rob, doesn’t “break” the laws of physics. If an item has 50 atoms, whatever he changes it too has to have 50 atoms… caveat is that he can pull atoms from anywhere. Reality manipulation- you can create atoms out of thin air. Superman once overpowered a beam fired from a girl that was channeling all of matter, energy, dimensions and magic in all reality from all points of time with his heat vision alone. Again my comment says what they can normally do, but even when it's stories where they are the main focus they all overtake what captain atom can do with the same spotlight.
Captain Atom can be Lucifer Morningstar level if the writers wanted him to be such. There's literally no limits to what he can or can't do since he was created to weird the most broken power ever, powered logic energy manipulation. J'onn controls literally every molecule in his body so on some level he has matter manipulation too. Also he is physically stronger than captain atom, so is superman.
@@OneofmanyASMR Except they didn't justify that at all so this is just cope
00:34 umm doctor manhattan??
Hyperbole totally never gets old
It's actually the other way around. DC wouldn't let him kill the characters they just got from Charleston comics. So he just made other versions of a bunch of them. Owl Man is the blue beetle, the question became Rorschach, and Captain Atom transmuted into Dr. Manhattan.
@@KaijuSuitagreed he IS DrM
My brethren... Doctor Manhattan is based on Captain Atom.
DC comics as always Undervalued the power captain atom has, he’s basically molecule Man and Superman in one person
His molecular manipulation isn’t anything near molecule man’s. Molecule man is basically a multiversal level matter manipulator, jm pretty sure he’s a straight up reality warper because of how good his matter manipulation is.
I love the random ones you do. This was great.
Odd, I would think that Diana being a descendant of a god that Atom would seek to get answers from her. A little odd if you ask me.
'JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED' - CAPTAIN ATOM
I always thought Dr. Manhattan was Captain Atom, just smarter. I'm glad there's a book that showcase his true limit of his powers.
Daaaamn, it reminds me Rob that how many times I was commenting on your channel loooong long time ago many years ago to do a video about Captain Atom
I'm glad people are recognising this Dope Hero
Thanks Rob
Clearly a Jenny Sparks story, not a Justice League story.
Im glad that they shin a stoplight on some of the lesser known characters. But do they always have to do by killing the other heroes.
all i learned from this is that Jenny Sparks is insufferable. oh, that and i guess its Captain Atom's turn to "kill the such and such universe".
Agreed. Really disliked her character here. Makes her feel like she can't be bothered by this. I don't get why she's doing it in the first place then
I agree with both of you.
@ThePlayer4our I feel like none of them really reacted to anyone dying, Supes had no reaction to his close friends dying?! The only reaction I saw was Batman yelling about the daughter at the end but it could be just cut around.
Sparks was always annoying but I liked her. Now she is just a hypocrite.
Yeah she's just a prick to everyone for no reason.
3:34 'Energy' cannot be created or destroyed (1st Law of Thermo) - just sayin'
She's lives to 100 years. Her replacement is Jenny Quantum before her was Jenny Fire.
Jenny Fire is like, when humanity discovered fire bro
Yes@@This_ffffire
Nice to see you doing DC comics again!
Who hasn't killed the Justice League.
Gingivitis? Pretty sure they all brush.
Shazam
Theyve never really known what to do with the dude. Sort of like Firestorm.
Who even knows this guy. He doesn't even bother to put on pants. Anybody who likes this guy better than Batman shows that they probably don't wear pants either.
Are you stupid ? You gotta be stupid
Oh give it a rest. There is a more to comic books than Batman
I like the way you make bad dialogue sound decent😊
Manhunter is basically invulnerable, wonder, woman is immortal, it takes way more force to punch through Superman and the flash runs faster than the speed of light. Also, I’ve seen Green Lantern stop giant nuke like explosions
He couldnt get the beatbon Supes either. Supes reactuon time is too fast. No way he lets Atom kill him from behind no less. Cheap shot
@@davidselawsky6620are you seriously coping that hard 😂 he’s a dude that can control matter. He disintegrates Superman atom by atom instantly with zero effort realistically
He's sounding just like dr Manhattan 😂😂
Learn that Dr. Manhattan is based off Captain Atom
Yoo, that's dope. Long time listener, first time commenter. Enjoyed this one, hope you continue when it comes out.
Doctor Manhattan could kick his butt
Can you cover Gambit's New Sun story? Maybe a series about different character's omega-level versions or something! You rock, thanks for the vids!
I'm early and ready to be made a comics expert 😂
The most powerful skill a supe can have: the understanding of not just what you are capable of, but the extent of your limits or lack of them.
So he's basically dr. Manhattan
Yea this was the dopest I’ve seen captain atom. Please keep posting
No, in physics, "intangible things" are not considered matter because matter is defined as anything that has mass and occupies space, and intangible things by definition lack a physical presence and cannot be measured in terms of mass or volume.
Phasing/quantum tunneling has mass, but does not have volume in a conventional way.
There are different kinds of intangible spiritual(gentleman ghost), dimensional(phantom girl), energy(Monica Rambeau) , vibrational(flash), hologram(shard) and mass shifting
Mmh is just mass shifting and still can be affected by matter manipulation cuz his mass is still there but just spread out way more
@@kingol4801 ok. He doesn't have Mass. Just admit they did lazy writing instead of debating facts
The nerf on flash and superman in this was kinda annoying as well. But they've always had their power levels conveniently reduced when needed i guess (especially flash).
maybe intangibility works the same as kitty pryde's powers
Your videos always bring so much positivity and good mood. Thank you for your humorous talent and bright energy!👽🧋✊
Could Scarlet Witch from MCU kills the whole Justice League from DC movies?
Why did you word that question like that.
Pretty much, she can just neutralize their powers and boom them.
Edit: I didn't realize you put MCU so I can't say
Yes. The MCU Wanda vs DCEU justice league. Yeah I would say because who inntje justice league could counter her. Maybe Batman with prep time 😂
@@Achiemeshe’s just as weak as a human generally so she can generally just get speedblitzed
She can only react at the speed of thought vs a being like flash who can react at the speed of light. Barry got this before it even starts!
You go to caputre one of the strongest beings - we don't need a plan, we can just walk in one by one and die. Good job Justice League.
"Boom you're dead"
my mind is kind of blown on this one. I'm stoked for the next one!
i HATE these kinds of comics. why does everyone have to die.
Look at the art, bro. Just phenomenal, so sharp.
DC really nerfed him so hard he is basically equal to Dr Manhattan
I am definitely here for the next issue bro!!! This was insane!!!
Captain Adam Devine
Go on...
The dialogue between atom and spark was amazing. 😱 “every superhero thinks they’re the chosen one because they can fly” 😂🔥🔥🔥
You say Captain Atom isn't a reality manipulator, but can manipulate the elements that make up reality 😄
Slightly difference but a difference nonetheless
Dr.Manhattan Laughs From 8 Dimensions Simultaneously 😂
4:19 "Nobody wants to be god anymore" is crazy lol
More like nobody wants to be good anymore
Could you imagine laying out that entire monologue just to have your neck snapped like that
Reminds me of Dr Manhattan.
You are imagining things. 😁
@@derrickmaraisdr Manhattan is based on captain atom rorschach the question
Not surprising. Dr Manhattan is based on Captain Atom, and in the New 52 they made Atom look very similar to Manhattan.
Correct for the comments in this section.
I wish he ran up on Manhattan trying this bullshit, then he would understand what a real God is.
This is actually pretty cool, they always hype up that Captain Atom is as strong as Superman but then for whatever reason he explodes😂
I think Dr. Manhattan could blink him away though
dr manhattan isnt originally traditional dc though remember that
Dr. Manhattan is based off Captain Atom
So it’s DC’s version of Dr. Manhattan, that has lost his humanity and has a whole MiracleMan arc with a sideways tinge like Jamie Braddock from the Excalibur comic, in one DC Elseworld series in a DC Black Mature Title.
Oh lord everybody takes out the entire everybody else......
Nothingmeans anything anymore
Cant wait for the next video on this series
Jenny seems like the shit talking goat. Need more stories with her
Nah thats constantine
I've always wanted a Cpt Adam villain arc, this makes me happy!
Oh no. Did someone split Captain Atom? Again?
Is it a day ending in "y"?
"I never realized how powerful captain atom was" Monarch: Am I a joke to you?
Captain Atom is sooooo much more powerful than anyone else on the Justice League. Since Day One.
Except for Batman he's always got a plan, making him the most powerful Justice League member.
He really isn't. The flash, martian manhunter and superman are so much more ridiculous in what they can normally do. Especially the flash.
@@Aaayyyeeee214... Captain Atom could turn the Earth Atmosphere into 9th Metal instantly... 💥 Flash can breath, move or so anything. The world is a Tomb.
Plus captain atom can blow up the whole universe if he wanted to. Gone. Read his 2005-06 series.
@@brianmccann666 that's captain atom when the writers let him take center stage. Go look at what the flash and superman can do when the writers give them the spotlight. The flash is so fast he's basically omnipresent and superman has ignored high level reality warping (which includes matter manipulation) and resists hax(s)(the current main superman resisted being turned into salt).
Characters like Supes or Flash or Green Lantern need mcguffians from energy sources Cap can easily create or destroy on a whim.
This is the first time I have ever caught UA-cam updating a video title live while the video was playing.
Anybody been watching Young Justice recently? Does the energy drink, REACH, within the show remind you of a drink that the kids are drinking today? Within the show, it makes you docile and was purposely made so that people would not revolt. The show is over a decade old but totally mirrors what is going on post lockdown. Its pretty eerie
You're just making a connection that's not there, irl doesn't need reach when there's the internet and media
Hey Rob, when are you going to do The Witness (Destiny 2) vs Galactus?
Vulcan 🖖 is his Marvel Counterpart
Not exactly
Vulcan is equal to Odin, Galactus and Franklin Richards and far superior to Hyperion(Superman) and Dr. Spectrum(Green Lantern), while Captain Atom got whooped by Superman, Green Lantern and Powergirl seperately.
His more likely counterparts are Captain Mar-Vell and Nova(super strength, laser beams, radius self explosion, energy absorbtion). And funny enough those two are also his equals.
@@TheMasterofDisaster48I wouldn't say Vulcan is equal to any of those people
@@TheMasterofDisaster48 Lmao No, that's a mad exaggeration, he's an omega mutant yes but he's not anywhere near those top guys you've mentioned.
“And just like that…BOOM! You’re dead.” Captain Atom

Snapping John Stewarts neck 😂 this story is garbage
@@TheSinatra Thats normal dude, without the ring john is just a dude, MM on the other hand shoulnt have died like this but he stil wouldve died to Cpt Atom regardless.
@@alejandrosantana5693 my fault i didn’t mean john stewart i was meaning martian manhunter. Breaking his neck is insane considering he’s a shapeshifter
@@TheSinatra It's kind of dumb but plausible for a matter manipulator to do, if Captain Atom prevented him from density/shape shifting.
That part the fact John jones didn’t transform or intangible is crazy
The metaphors and allegory are something else.
"It's not in the main continuity, FYI." In other words, Captain Atom is NOT the most powerful character in DC, and could NOT do that to the JLA, let alone Superman.
And Superman was never the most powerful in the DCU. He's the STRONGEST HERO, not the most powerful. There's a difference between strength and overall power. Lots of characters are "more powerful" than Superman. Hell, Zatanna and Green Lantern are more powerful than Superman. But they're not stronger.
Overall, this was just more of the sick, twisted, and played out "superhero goes crazy" crap, just using actual DC characters. Dumb.
captain atom has always been my favorite because of wat he can do. people just never give him the light cuz SUPERMAN
Man I can't with the dialogue anymore. It's so preachy and just a medium for the writer to sh*tpost.
That's exactly what I was thinking
The dialogue is very heavy handed and Jenny Sparks imo just isn't likeable enough for me to serve as the main POV for a story like this. But the way Atom executes the league is pretty brutal ngl.
@@narutogen13 me too
When Jenny was talking about the vicar and German moustache man I knew this was a modern day comic.
I did not expect to enjoy a story about Captain Atom. I certainly look forward to the next episode!
I love the classic look of Superman and Batman illustration. Dope!
this jl is soo dumb
great video
Captain Atom is a fucking beast he can bitch slap superman
No.
Didn't green lantern beat him after blowing up the universe I can't remember what issues
@johnlawful2272 thing with Cap atom is depends who writes him sometimes he causally beats guys like superman other times he struggles with lesser characters he's in same boat with Lobo in that regard, also Cap atom holds back most times he rarely ever uses his full powers
Remember when reading comics you wanted good guys to live?
Captain atom can be a beast but punching superman through his chest? no. They are making stuff up for the story. this seems like a psychotic dream that Cap Atom is having. Next darkside will show up and get one shot-ed in the next comic.
I know. I thought that was a little silly. It's like. Is this like a weaker Superman?
Atom can emit different forms of radiation. One of those form’s being red solar light. If the writers actually used his abilities at their max potential then punching holes in Superman should be easy for him. But since he isn’t a flagship character this is the closest thing.
We'll Dr Manhattan was based off of him wasn't he? That probably explains his power, no? 🤷
@@mikeharris6429red solar energy isn’t a different type of radiation. Red, yellow, and blue suns and so on all release the same type of radiation. They all just differ in terms of size and energy output. But they all release the same types of radiation.
There’s actually no scientific reason as to why Superman should be weak to red solar energy as it resealed the same type of energy as any other type of suns, though just at a lower level.
@@mikeharris6429I should keep up with Superman comics things like kryptonite or red sun radiation aren’t even a factor for Superman anymore since dc death metall
