Fun Fact: The reason "Nimrod" is synonymous with "idiot" is because of Bugs Bunny. In old Loony Tunes Cartoons, Bugs Bunny sarcastically compared Elmer Fudd to Nimrod, who was a legendary hunter referenced in the Bible. However, not enough people understood the reference, and just assumed Nimrod was just another word for idiot, since Elmer Fudd was such an incompetent hunter.
The lesson to be learned from this is that Bugs Bunny > The Bible.

The sentinels in the days of future past x men movie was pretty damn powerful in the future timeline, they were basically mini Nimrods running around. They were hella scary for robots to be honest.

Technically a version of Nimrod was in X-men: Days of the Future Past. Those sentinels had the same powers as Nimrod.
Massively weaker tho. All they could do was adapt, make hand blades and shoot fusion blasts.

@@IamNeloAngelo Wrong. They could heal themselves, absorb mutant powers and sync those powers with each other. One sentinel absorbed a power and could apply it and so could the other sentinels without having absorbed that power themselves.
@TimmyTurnerArmwrestling they didn't show having any type of self-repair capabilities. There was one that lost its arm....it didn't "heal".
Also even though they share data doesn't mean they could just transfer power between each other either as that was not shown.

Nimrod is actually in the Bible (Old Testament) and he was no joke. He was a king, an amazing hunter and started gathering great power.
The best part? The meaning of "nimrod" that most people know is from Bugs Bunny making fun of Elmer Fudd. He called Elmer Fudd "a real Nimrod" (Nimrod in the Bible was a great and mighty hunter). So the common meaning of "nimrod" is literally because Bugs Bunny made a Biblical reference in a joke that just flew over peoples' heads.

Theoretically speaking tho, there were two sides, one for Mutant Registration one not. When the side that was for registration, didn't get registration, they said, "ah well, time for Order 66"
That's exactly some laws work. They don't necessarily need to make sense or be ethical, enough supreme judges just need to vote them, or a parliament and the president need to agree on making them constitutional etc. If they leave undefined areas in the law you can bet all your savings they'll be abused in the most ridiculous way possible. It happens in real life all the time.
Nimrod will always be one of my favorite characters. Took on the Hellfire Club, X-Men at the same time and almost won. Knocked out the Juggernaut in seconds. He became sucky when he fused with Master Mold and Bastion. I think the problem was he was *too* powerful, and the writers were going to start having trouble figuring out ways to stop him, because you could never beat him the same way twice (he was sort of like Doomsday...each time he was defeated, he came back with the ability to counter whatever defeated him).

The best way to describe Nimrod as kid reading the comics was "stressful." There was a sense of dread for who every ran into a Nimrod Sentinel. When he shows up, you know they got a big problem on their hands. This is how you do an overpowered villain.
Nimrod terrified me as a kid just because in the old X-men cartoon when he first appeared Rachael yelled "Oh my god, it's Nimrod" in such a terrified way that it shook me lol. The voice acting on that show was so great.

I remember Nimrod, he reminded me a lot of how A.M.A.Z.O. was re-imagined in Justice League Unlimited (which came years later, of course), and also Ultron obviously (who did the 'always reform' thing as well).

It's funny you bring up The Fury and how similar Nimrod is to it.
The story goes that the only reason Nimrod exists/was created for the comics was because Alan Moore, in typical Alan Moore fashion, wouldn't let anyone else play with his toys. Back in The Trial of Magneto, we had Sir James Jaspers involved -- The Fury was supposed to emerge during the trial and set Jaspers up as a big bad for Claremont's ongoing X-Men book. Alan Moore threw a fit, leading to the story being neutered (Fenris was the enemy instead) and Claremont and Co going back to the drawing board, which lead to Nimrod being created.
Sorry, mistake there -- Jaspers was going to be established as a human villain in The Trial, but the Fury, along with Mad Jim, were going to appear at some point later, maybe the Mutant Massacre, somebody's comment reminded me of it.

The sentinals in the DOFP movie were pretty much Nimrod class. They were fully adaptive to any mutant, not needing 50-100 to do much.

I imagine the sentinels analyzed Hulk's powers and realized his strength was augmented by his anger and hit him with some type of gas, sleep agent, or any other thing that would curb anger. Once the hulk was no longer angry or could get angry... they would would just kill him. That's the screwed up thing about the hulk. He's so powerful that his weakness has to be something stupid. Like Martian Manhunter is weak to fire. If the Hulk can't get angry... He's done. Let's tickle him to death. Laughing gas or something that screws with his emotions. I know that idea hurts hulk fan boys feelings cause they don't want anything to be able to stop the hulk. But That's how the sentry was always able to just make the hulk docile in the past... He would just simply make him not angry, but that couldn't be done to world breaker hulk. The hulk was just too angry, and angry with purpose and reason other than just angry for something trivial like "wanting to be left alone". Plus the sentry wanted to cut loose on someone anyway. But yes... The joker could probably release his toxic laughing gas on the hulk and leave him blissfully dead with a smile on his face. Sorry fan boys. Lol
It's funny and ironic, that in the past, the hulk probably never wants to be the hulk. When he would turn into the hulk he would always want to be "left alone". Because being left alone would allow his anger to subside and allow him to return back to being banner. But not leaving him alone kept him raging and getting stronger. He just wanted to be left alone, turn back to banner, and go be with Betty.
People thought they killed the Hulk before but he typically gets better. Even in recent times they killed the Hulk before Civil War 2, killed him while he was Banner with his powers suppressed... he just came back stronger his current running comic is literally called "The Immortal Hulk"
They'd be better off sedating him and keeping him that way than trying to kill him.
Eluminary Xarrais exactly. The second most powerful ability of the hulk is his healing factor. I looked up some of his feats and some of them far surpass Wolverine levels of regen...

Please he's the living Embodiment of plot armour if he needs to do something Hill suddenly gain the ability to do so although considering that he's a robot I'm surprised he hasn't run hypothetical scenarios in his brain or whatever and prepared for possible occurrences get a counter to as many things as you can before you encounter them kind of thing as he has sentience to a degree he should be able to think for himself and prepare and if that was the case then he would be even harder to kill

On a more on point not, Nimrod is basically Marvel's version of Amazo. Both were down well in the X-men Animated series and Justice League/Unlimited respectively.
A.M.A.Z.O was also done surprisingly well for its first live action appearance, in the Arrowverse crossover *Elseworlds* ... it was also the first live action appearance of John Dee/Doctor Destiny, before he showed up again in the *Sandman*

Could Nimrod actually beat (comic book) Ultron though? If Ultron could take over the phalanx, I imagine he would have no trouble taking over Nimrod. Also Thor has enough power to stagger a celestial. Thor has the power, the hammer just allows him to channel and focus it. Also Thor could just use the hammer to thrust Nimrod into another dimension.
Last thing... I understand what you're doing but you tend to compare Comic versions to MCU versions. That's not exactly fair. If Thor, hulk, Ultron, etc.. are toned down in the MCU, chances are Nimrod, the sentry, the one above all, etc... Would be toned down if introduced into the MCU as well.

Hey Rob, I wanna ask you a favor. Can you explore the character known as "Korvac". I have heard about him before but I couldn't find info about him anywhere. I also heard he's universal level, is that true?
Michael Korvac is a computer technician in the alternate universe Earth-691. When the Sol System and its colonies are conquered by the alien Brotherhood of Badoon in the year 3007 AD, Korvac becomes a collaborator and traitor to the human race. Caught asleep at a machine while working, the Badoon punish Korvac by grafting his upper body to a machine, effectively making him a cyborg.

The future sentinels in Days of Future Past film are composite characters, combination of the regularly Sentinels from the comics (made much faster and agile in the movie) with Nimrod's adaptive ability.

Oh I miss those comics. Chris Claremont and John Romita Jr. did such awesome work with the Nimrod story line. The fight with Nimrod and The Hellfire Club gave it to him.

Good Grief! I actually remember buying & reading this at the time. I thought it was a convoluted mess then & still do. Basically an unstoppable McGuffin that would take someone yielding the Power Cosmic to defeat.

Ok Rob, before I even watch this video. Long time fan, rare commenter. I am so glad you chose to do a video on Nimrod. I remember reading the comics and using that as inspiration to bring him into the (TSR) Marvel Superheroes ttrpg campaign i was running with my friends. I brought in Thanos later on but Nimrod does not play around and he easily wiped the floor in their first encounter. ( no good story allows for a one-and-done fight.)
There's a Marvel Legends Nimrod action figure set that comes with Psylocke and Fantomex I think. It's on my list of things to get, but current budget priorities aren't allowing that to happen. Thing is... It's not getting any cheaper, lol 🤦🏾♂️
Also... I'm tryna get lucky and get Nimrod in _Contest of Champions._ Well... Nimrod, Archangel, Apocalypse and Stryfe.
*Edit:* I ended up pulling a 3ˢ Stryfe which easily became my favorite character. Then pulled a 4ˢ Nimrod and a duplicate about a week later. Nimrod easily jumps to my number one.

I'm a marvel unlimited guy so I'm always a few months behind but this issue was on it last week and WOW! That's why I love Hickman and I'm a X-Men fan til I die. I'm worried that the phalanx part will never be a part of it but I'm hopeful he nails it before he moves on.

7:12 - how did frames like this one (of Kitty falling backwards) get in the comic? I'm guessing its something like, they were rushing to get the comic done ..and so used a 'stocky' male body and put her head on it. Both the frames (at the bottom) show it.

Ooooooh boy, oh man oh man! I remember this guy from the 90s X men cartoon (well... I think it aired in the 80s originally but over here in Eastern Europe we only got it towards the end of the 90s and early 00s.) and I was absolutely terrified by him! I loved those episodes where Nimrod was sent from the future to hunt down the X men terminator style!
