Regarding the farm machinery line 26:40 - Mordin mentions once using farm machinery in a fight in the base game of 2. In the Shadow Broker DLC, you can find an incident report with another special forces specialist you met in Mass Effect 1. Among calling each other cloacas, we learn when their team was spotted, Mordin killed a krogan with a pitchfork, while sustaining injuries to his face and horn.
Mordin didn't create the genophage, which happened in the 800s, but he refined it for krogan adaptation.
Note that Mordin's voice actor switched between 2 and 3.
Mordin states he prefers the patter songs.
Don't forget the Elcor performance of Macbeth. The Elcor speech patterns is based on the party member from Knights of the Old Republic I & II, HK-47. While he was more expressive than the typical Elcor, he did prefix all his statements with various things, such as "Statement," "Declaration," "Mockery" or "Veiled Threat."
Thanks for introducing me to The 8-Bit Band.

also the NOT DIFFICULT is a reference to Mordin's voice line that can play whenever he kills an enemy in ME2

Rotamers refer to a chemical property where the same atoms can assemble into the same molecule in two different ways, effectively mirror images of each other. There's Dextro (right-handed assembly, Turians and Quarians) and Levo (left-handed assembly, every other race in mass effect).
Will Roland also pays one last homage to the game with that little throat clearing cough at the end, repeating what Mordin Solus does in Mass Effect 2 after the long awkward silence following his singing.

This was great reaction/analysis to a great song. The recommendation finally pointed me to a interesting new channel to watch.

    Just one word: HILARIOUS.
Me and Hjördis enjoyed it very much. Well, I did, she slept through it all.🐈‍⬛🐈

Mass Effect was known to me only by name. The 8-Bit Big Band is entirely new to me. But my parents fell in love with each other over their mutual love of Gilbert and Sullivan (at least, according to my mother). So this makes me very happy.

Curious - he uses his fingers as if he had a 3 finger hand... as Salarians do.

Game music can be amazing, and this was made from a little skit from ME2...
Also, I recommend you listen to game OSTs, too, because they can be amazing.

Great reaction and analysis! I had a brief period when I was kind of obsessed with Pirates of Penzance, and I've played ME 1 long ago, so I loved this song when it came out. Thanks for all the music and game insights you've provided on it!

wow, this video is such a gift and a delight!! i never played mass effect though i knew anything about it from what i sort of gathered from the ether when the games were coming out, but i learned about charlie rosen (& thus also the 8 bit big band) through will roland, actually, because will was the lead in the off & on broadway productions of musical "be more chill" in '18/'19, which charlie rosen did orchestrations for, & they have further overlap in the nyc live performance / music spaces here haha, so i made sure to pounce on this video when it was released, even without knowing much about the context. i looked some things up & other mass effect fans helped provide some more info, but getting both your knowledge & enthusiasm about not only the material from the games, but also gilbert & sullivan / modern major general and orchestras as well was just fantastic. and this format of giving plenty of info beforehand, then the initial reaction, and another reaction with as many pauses and info as you want to give is truly ideal in my opinion, it's how i'd want to talk about things too so it really works for me seeing it like this, and your getting to get in depth and really appreciate everything going on, including how this was shot & put together, just a joy, and so is having this video out here resonating in enjoyment and appreciation for this project.
what insights i can offer too are that i believe the "levo dextro rotamers" refers to rotational isomers (rotamers) where their chirality is determined via i think perhaps an optics method where light passed through them will be shown to rotate clockwise (dextro) or counterclockwise (levo). the lyrics are really incredible even without context of game knowledge or scientific knowledge haha and have to shout out how charlie not only of course credits the author (and let's hear it for lyrics sourced from a pretty old pretty long fanfic) but includes new lyrics by that original author for this performance!
meanwhile, since i experienced this song at all because of him and thus also this video: will roland is ridiculously talented and in any of the many standalone character song / cabaret performances like this of his that you can find he gives not just the beautiful technical skill you get here but the extra effort of really conveying a distinct character in the performance as he does here as well (someone pointed out the detail that he keeps his hands in a "three finger" position to match mordin all throughout lol). i wasn't already familiar with the game, but multiple mass effect fans in the comments of the original video say they checked to see if he was the official voice actor in the game (his speaking voice isn't super far off from this, but he's definitely altering his voice throughout to do this, for yet another layer of impressiveness). he is also SO good with that lung capacity and breath control that many other professional peers are wowed about it lol, one example being you might look up how the acoustic edition music video of "loser geek whatever" extra showcases how long he holds the ending notes of this quite long solo & act one closer, which, in fact, when this was being performed in "be more chill" off/on broadway, any other performers who substituted for this part would sing a slightly edited version cutting down that ending some, because only will (who the song was actually specifically written for to perform) could actually do it!
he's also evidently a mass effect fan himself, as he expresses in that video's premiere's chat playback, and charlie in the comments says that the detail of playing mass effect on the steam deck was will's idea; he not only brought it himself but had in fact made sure to reach the point in the game where the player first meets mordin (no word on whether he was legitimately playing further while filming this haha but it's sure at least plausible). and in another comment charlie confirms that there were very few outtakes in making this because will and everyone were truly just that good and really bringing it.
again just had a great time for this full video and it's so excellent to be getting such energy and information in this reaction. thank you for sharing!

also, for interest, there's another 8 bit big band that will roland's also sung in, in a more familar style for the band (sax solo!) here: ua-cam.com/video/uQu_EGFB1EQ/v-deo.html

I thought the Elcor used pheromones to convey emotions not microexpressions? *Goes to check. * ' Among themselves, scent, extremely slight body movements, and subvocalized infrasound' so we're both right.
And yeah this song is perfectly done.

I has just occurred to me following the discussion about patter singing that the musical Hamilton is an evolution of the style into rap.
Once again I appreciate the gaming discussion because I don't game.
The enjoyment is engaging as the smile and glee show in your reaction!

This video brought me so much joy!!! I've played a bit of ME 1, and knowing this is a thing that Mordin does is awesome (I don't care about spoilers, I may eventually get there one day...). I may have sung along with you while you sang the first verse of Modern Major General. One of my favourite patter songs is Franklin Shephard Inc from Merrily We Roll Along. Another is one I pull out at karaoke every so often: I've Been Everywhere by Hank Snow. The verses are all patter. Anyway! Thanks for another awesome video! See you in the next one!

In the comments on the original video he replied to a comment saying that he started playing mass effect 2 on his way to the recording so he'd be at the point where you meet Mordin in the game 😂
