Oh this was good. More than anything I can't wait to see the cast's reaction when it reaches them- I just can't see a world where they don't appreciate this as much as we all do.
Guys! This is unreal...! Tears came to my eyes while I was continously smiling. I just can't believe that this performance with so much talent, humor and intelligence does actually exists. AMAZING! ✨
Truly one of the most fun and memorable "easter eggs" found in any game, I was delighted when Mordin began singing, and I've gone back over it a number of times just to make sure I got all of the lyrics. THANK YOU so much for putting the lyrics on-screen for the performance! Bravo, my friends. Bra-vo.
I think I can speak for everyone in this comment section when I say, emphatically, please play Mass Effect. It's something everyone should experience at least once.
I can't believe somebody wrote the whole parody, that's amazing. And Y'all are amazing for performing it! Everyone did a great job, as always. You people don't miss, I swear.
Since I first played Mass Effect 2 (and being a bit of a musical theatre performer myself) I have ALWAYS wanted a complete version of this, and you went above and beyond! Congratulations to all involved, but especially your talented vocalist, for rapidly firing out phrases lesser beings might have found.. problematic. Had to be you. Someone else might have gotten it wrong! .. Now, where did I put those seashells?
I haven't played mass effect, but after listening to this song, I might. Edit: I'm currently in the middle of the second one and I'm having a blast. I've recently done Mordin's loyalty mission and it was really interesting how they deal with the ethics of what he did. Edit 2: I've just now finished Mass Effect 3 and I liked almost all of it, even though the ending felt a little bit weird. This game series might be one of the best.
ME3's ending is highly controversial. Basically nobody likes the star child and the original endings apparently only differed in respect to the colour of the beam. After vocal protest from fans, the devs released an update that expanded the endings to make the consequences of the choices clearer. It's still not great (I'm sure the devs could have come up with a better ending if EA had given them the time), but personally I refuse to let the last 5-10 minutes ruin my experience of this amazing game trilogy!
Year late but here's why: So part of the reason ME3's ending feels off, is because there was a different ending planned, and it got hard leaked, so they had to come up with an entirely new one. And I think this was weeks from launch or something? Basically, the ending was something about looking into Dark Matter (Hence Tali's Recruitment + Loyalty missions referencing Dark Matter shit), and having the choice of sacrificing bunch of people or hoping for the best or something?
I can't give this performance enough praise for how fantastic it was, I always wondered and hoped I'd get to see someone do a full version (although I'm not *too* familiar with Gilbert and Sullivan). Mordin was incredible throughout our entire time with him and I felt it was a big mistake Bioware never cashed in on it. The tempo was phenomenal, I didn't expect I'd ever find someone that could do his voice proper justice and the lyrics are excellent. Bravo to everyone that took part.
The thing that delights me most about this functional easter egg from the game is that, per canon, *nobody in Mass Effect learns other languages normally*. It’s all translators that work really well, albeit imperfectly on rare occasion. Which means one of two things: 1. Somehow Gilbert and Sullivan translate *perfectly*, down to the syllables, into a language developed by a completely separate evolutionary tree. 2. Mordin went out of his way as an already short-lived species to learn English so well that he can sing a G&S homage/parody perfectly off-the-cuff like this.
This video filled me with unparalleled amounts of joy. Life has been hard as of late and that gave me the biggest excitement and smile I've had in a long time. Major thanks to everyone involved. You're all so talented. Mass Effect was life changing for me and this song to honor it is one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed.
Words fail me. This was brilliantly written, brilliantly performed, and even brilliantly filmed. Holy, and I say this with awe, crap. ADDED: I’ve now watched this five times in the last hour. It’s just as wondrous each time. ADDED2: I stopped keeping count at 20 times. I usually play this at least once a day now.
I have been rewatching this for days. The lyrics are so magnificently written! Can't even begin to choose which parts are my favorite. I almost cried at "It had to be done rightly and so I'm the one it had to be." Thank you for this cover created with love!!

This is LITERALLY what I've been looking all over for. The lyrics plus the tangents. 👍👍
I have wanted a full Scientist Salarian song for literal years. This is great!
The idea of Mordin singing this in his youth made me so unreasonably happy. Thank you all!!!!
Every time I play ME2 I have Mordin sing this multiple times just because it makes me smile so much. And now to have the full version? I'm gonna need a grinectomy. Thank you very much.
“If knowledge is a library, then I’m its King Librarian” is a great line.
I love the Torfan line.
Pretty sure Mordin would know to sing "its", not "it's".
@@Anvilshock You'd be correct. I, however, apparently forgot the difference.
@@shadowldrago Looks like you also forgot that you could fix such mistake, and how refusing or ignoring to do so nevertheless still reflects accordingly on you.
@@Anvilshock It's a minor grammatical error, dude. Relax.
I was amazed at the _initial_ tempo, considering the amount of "unique" words to internalize. But the last minute was insane!!! Bravissimo to all, including the lyricist. (And thanks greatly for the subtitles...).
"Ah, ology suffix. Not difficult!"
Percussionists everywhere breathed a sigh of relief you didn’t ask anyone to play the original mallet part
This video is my 8-month-old's favorite thing in the world right now. He lights up when he hears the opening notes and starts grinning madly when the vocals start.
"My soil science would suffice to make Tuchanka arable" now that's a bar 😂😂👏 he delivers it masterfully
This song is just fantastic! The story of how it came to be is almost unbelievable, but the internet can be a wonderful place sometimes 😊
just the hold on araaaaaaaaabbbblllleeeeeeee chefs kiss
“My work’s more highly cited than a Krogan on Presidium” I’m sure that Krogan has been cited a _lot_ …by C-Sec!
He sings while playing on a switch
@@LoneWolf_432 he holds the line on arable, while playing on a steamdeck, his very own scene.
that's a power move.

This is about 10 years late...but I couldn't be happier it's finally here.
The person who originated Jared Kleinmann in Dear Evan Hansen singing about a Mass Effect character as a parody of Modern Major General. I love when my fandoms overlap ❤
We do not deserve this G&S parody at all. Fantastic work from everyone on this, incredible arranging Charlie! Will was incredible as always. Thank you so much for your incredible arrangements and for renewing people's love of video game music - LONG LIVE VIDEO GAME MUSIC!
I absolutely love the rhyme-finding bits. Great in the original, but perfectly updated to fit his personality and the new lyrics of the song.
I am so glad I live on an earth where the people who love this as much as I do actually get together and make such an amazing masterpiece.
Thank you. This feels... Right.
Never before have I needed something so desperately and never known until I received it.
I’m glad you were impatient, because this is amazing. Will’s breath control is out of this world. The band looks and sounds outstanding. I really hope you post more behind the scenes footage like you have been on Instagram.
"My actuary tables say I'll live just half a century"
If only we'd been so blessed.
What? Will Roland AND Mass Effect? What an excellent day.
Theres something just FUCKING AMAZING that Mass Effect this amazing little trilogy still has a fanbase making incredible content for it decades.
His Ego is so dense, it causes the Mass Effect Phenomenon.
This is amazing!
But also, congrats on your latest Tony Award! 🎉🎉
Thank you!!
This was incredible! Cheers to the animator who came up with all the whiteboard artwork! 😂
😁😁😁
@@JavaDoodles Next time try to actually match the beat. The animation is about one beat every twelve-ish fast.
"In matters combat tactical and physics theoretical, I am the very model of a modern Major General" - Freeman's Mind
I am incredibly impressed that all the vocalists pronounced everything so perfectly
I'm replaying Mass Effect 2 and mentioned this to my friend. Tonight, as I was working on the very mission to retrieve Mordin, I get a text from him linking this video. That's video game magic right there.
Incredibly well put together, this was such a treat to experience. Thank you!!!
Oh this was good.
More than anything I can't wait to see the cast's reaction when it reaches them- I just can't see a world where they don't appreciate this as much as we all do.
“I’ll toxify my enemies with nary an apology” the salarians included a line about the genophage in a cover of a human song 💀💀💀
Tunes of Gilbert & Sullivan shall ring throughout the ages... in one form or the other.
Bra-vo.
This is such a specific cross between Pirates of Penzance and Mass Effect that I’m so glad I know and understand
I am unable to give this the amount of likes/loves that it deserves. Well done. This needs to be in his eulogy.
I've never even played any of the Mass Effect games, and I think I've listened to this three dozen times. Well done!
Oh, play them.
I think I can speak for everyone in this comment section when I say, emphatically, please play Mass Effect. It's something everyone should experience at least once.
MAN I just wanna give this three-to-five thumbs up... I always loved that skit in ME2, seeing it expanded into a full-length song is just *marvelous!*
Soooo Nerdy and Soooo cool ... LOVE IT!!!!
Right in the feels. You can feel the love of the character and lore. 10/10, will listen to on repeat.
Thank you for making the worst possible day of my life end on a happy note! This made me smile more than you can believe!
The grin the singer had throughout made this all the better.
Matched the one the listeners get--after we pick up our jaws from the floor, of course.
I damn near cried watching this. That's how happy it made me. Bless you guys.
I adore the small interjections that suggest he's literally making up the lyrics as he goes.
Full length Mass Effect opera suit confirmed.
This Will Roland guy is phenomenal!
This is just...a triumph. My goodness. My GOODNESS.
I'm so glad there was enough Interest to make a full version of this 😆😆
This deserves the highest musical awards!
Year late but here's why:
So part of the reason ME3's ending feels off, is because there was a different ending planned, and it got hard leaked, so they had to come up with an entirely new one. And I think this was weeks from launch or something? Basically, the ending was something about looking into Dark Matter (Hence Tali's Recruitment + Loyalty missions referencing Dark Matter shit), and having the choice of sacrificing bunch of people or hoping for the best or something?
This made my Sunday! Thank you for honoring our dear scientist Salarian!
I've wanted a full Scientist Salarian song since I first played the game 10 years ago. Thanks for this.
The diction on all the singers is stunning.
The thing that delights me most about this functional easter egg from the game is that, per canon, *nobody in Mass Effect learns other languages normally*.
It’s all translators that work really well, albeit imperfectly on rare occasion.
Which means one of two things:
Well, he IS the very model of a scientist Salarian.
That was.. Absolutely incredible!!! Amazing job!!!
Reminder to self. Make next DnD character an homage to Mordin
Will Roland is exceptionally talented. I saw him in 2019 in Be More Chill. Absolute monster when it comes to breath control. 👏🏽
I think I've watched this 9 or 10 times already. Good lord, you all killed it
Words fail me.
