My gosh Charlie, I love this so much. This song means so much to me personally and has taken such a special place in my life. Hearing you arrange it in this has infused it with a whole new meaning and emotion - thanks for this! Killer arrangement 🤘
Your cover on this also rocks, but oh yeah, they killed this.
Can't wait to see your music coming up in video games down the road!
Honestly the only thing this amazing arrangement is missing is you on that cow bell
Your cover has met a worthy opponent.
Your cover got me through so much and this reawakened that joy I once had. Gonna blast this all the time as well as yours
Right?? Feels like a whole new level for video game's music covers.
If I walked by a black church jammin this exact song out, I'd go from agnostic atheist to devout disciple overnight.
Fr. Moses Berry (who sadly reposed recently) was a black Orthodox priest and had this cool style, it's Easter btw. Christ is risen! ☦️
lol.
I'm not gonna lie to y'all. This might be the single best 8-Bit Big Band cover since y'all started. Holy moly.
This is tied with the Snake Eater cover
I have to second you on that.
Ditto! I shared it with my chamber choir and they loved it!
It's fantastic, the church choir soul version is very uplifting
It's up there, in my opinion here is my top 4 list
1:Snake Eater
I prefer their version to the original by a long shot
2: Pollyanna
It has so much energy, you feel so happy after listening to this.
3: Still alive
Very different from the original but they are both fantastic
4:lonely rolling star
The original is very minimalistic, theirs is much larger but they both work super well.
I remember calling my local game store every. Day. Leading up to Earthbound's release. It was the summer before starting I think 4th grade. When they finally said they had it, my mom took me up there and the guy said "oh YOU'RE the Earthbound kid." But like in a super nice way. This just took me right back to that moment, almost 30 years ago.
Hopefully you still have that copy
Thank you for the amazing opportunity!
Yo everybody give some love to the incredible animator of this video!!
Great fucking work dude!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 What an honor, and with such an awesome arrangement! 💪🏻💗
Awesome work!
Thank you for making us look good!
Thank you, 3 Mother games well represented.
It's impossible to express just how much I like this
Omg hey bestie
@@braidonsaelens5174 fancy seeing you here lol
I cannot overstate my satisfaction
Heyy
@@Hue5366 that's an understatement lol
They say that you can hear whether someone is smiling in a vocal recording. That's never been more true than with Alan H. Green in this video.
As a primarily Gospel musician who loves video game music, this arrangement really spoke volumes to me 😭🔥 big up you Charlie and the rest of the band!
Man i got huge worship vibes from this arrangement. Could've transitioned seamlessly to a praise break at the end
for real - the Kirk Franklin Brighter Day horn line was SUCH a nice touch. I'd love a gospel videogame album.... might have to make one myself
@@JonnyTobinMusic right!! Such a great implementation
@@JonnyTobinMusic maaaaaan, that would be hype to put together!! And yeah the Brighter Day quote had me jumping!
Bruh I thought Alan was BeBe for a hot minute, had to double take. Big PK Ups!! 😊
Every time I hear Pollyanna, I cry because the message is so soft and genuine.
This time, I cried for a different reason: This one wasn't just a message of hope as acceptance. This version was a celebration of every person that kept the original message in heart. Of every persona that grew up with the Mother Series and every person who still believes in miracles.
This was beautiful. In every way and meaning of the word. Going on Loop!
❤❤
Bro same. I’m a pretty emotional guy anyway but something about the combination of my experiences with the series, who I played it alongside in the past, and my tendency to view the past with rose-colored glasses, it all coalesces in my heart and moves me to tears. Maybe because I’ve hurt people and been given a second chance. I woke up this morning and needed to hear it
This. And seeing a large, strong guy like him, who looks a lot like me, being so open and expressive and singing a song like this, makes me feel like I'm not a freak.
This video made me cry and I'm so happy to feel so seen. It's been such a hard year, but this gives me so much hope. Thanks to the people who created this amazing work of art.
Yeah I agree. I'm 16 and since I was 8, I've played and loved the Mother franchise... This remix spoke volumes to me too
Wait until they do the "Eight Melodies" take one....That one, as well as doing an arranged version of "10,000 Miles" by Mary Chapin Carpenter....I don't know how I would feel having them cover one of the few obscure pieces of songs now many in the new generation even know it exists and such.
For anyone who found their way to this amazing rendition without knowing what Earthbound or Mother is or what it means to call somebody Pollyanna, Pollyanna is a reference to a nearly century old book (also a movie in the 60s) about being hopelessly optimistic, and there are crucial characters in the games who happen to be named Ana and Paula respectfully who both refuse to let the party's spirits drop.
Of course, Paula always dies within 5 seconds of being revived...
@@MeleeGamer That seems to be a canon event for healer characters.
This is so good that I would literally categorize it as life changing. I am not being hyperbolic. This is. SO. GOOD.
Yup this is my daily now
I agree so so so much. I can’t listen to it without crying. I also think it is life changing. It’s something about the lyrics and the soulfulness of the voices that resounds with so much hope and joy for life. I honestly think this cover of this song is my favorite piece of music ever. It exemplifies the power of videogames and music to change and touch a life, to make you feel something, to feel loved by sounds. Wow, wow…
Absolutely no shame in admitting this made me cry just a little bit. This series and song is so near and dear to my heart, and this cover was just... wow. Beyond words.
absolutely no shame, I cried too!
@@micheller3251 Thats gonna be a tear inducing jam for me too
Yup, no shame bc I'm crying now.
Hey buddy,
No crying until the end.
and seeing your comment made me cry a little harder.
Of all the things I expected Pollyanna to be, a church jazz fusion was the least likely to be on my radar, yet this is wildly one of if not your best work Charlie. The amount of small details here and there in the animation alone, not to mention the fact the actual song itself is full of more effort than I could’ve ever imagined. Makes me wish Iwata himself could be here to hear it…
💯 my sentiments exactly. This tune in this style is unexpected as The Consouls doing Mute City as smooth jazz but every bit as satisfying!
Aw, you made me a little sad.
Iwata may not be with us, but Shigesato Itoi (creator of Mother/Earthbound) is, and I hope he's seen this and appreciates it as much as we do.
Alan H. Green simply radiates joy in this performance. So awesome to see him sing alongside so many talented backup vocalists too. Thanks for sharing!
He's amazing!
This was one of the best songs I've ever heard
It's a thing of beauty ❤
The characters singing along is the cutest part.
This is like the triumphant credits theme to a long-lost, animated feature. It's joyous and life-affirming.
I been going through a lot, i lost a very dear friend. She pased away from cancer, i stayed with her until the last moment. I lost my smile, my drive to do art and my love for music. Its been half a year and i still miss her so much but i remember all the memories and laughs we shared and im just happy to have been a part of that. This song made me go back to my bass and start jammin again... like we used to do together. I will never forget you my dear friend. 🐀 Thanks to the people who made such a beautiful song and...thanks to everyone that still believes in a better tomorrow 💜
Took me back to church with this one. I'd never imagine this song could work so well in an R&B/Gospel style but my eyes have been opened to new possibilities in VGM covers. Outstanding work. Can't wait for the album to finally drop. This track is getting a lot of plays for sure.
A little over a month ago, I was listening to another version of this song and mentioned to my hubby, this song needs a legit Gospel style version.
And now, just days after mentioning it, here it is. How is this even possible? Because miracles.
Amazing job, 8-Bit Big Band and Alan H Green and the angelic BG vocalists!
Aaaaaaand, let me mop up this puddle of tears on the floor 😭❤💙💛💚
Giygas works in mysterious ways! Thanks for listening :)
'Cause I still believe in miracles
Just when I thought I couldn't love Pollyanna more, this version comes in.
I was happy listening to The Consouls' cover and never thought of this style for the tune but it is so good!
That vocal run on "when the bluebirds fly away," has still got me weak in the knees. This arrangement was well worth the wait!
OMG, this is soooo good! Never knew Pollyana could sound this soulful! Everything is so FELT! I absolutely love this and InsaneTheRain's version. Thank you so much for this!
Black brother singing Pollyanna?! This is the greatest thing I’ve ever heard😢! Thank you so much! 💚
Just seein a black person in this community warms my soul
@@giggymuun Hit me in my emotions fr. Dude's positive vibe is immaculate 🙏🏿
As an Ethiopian teen who loves Earthbound, I can confirm that it warmed my heart as well!
😍😍😍
@@giggymuunI'm here i love mother me and my siblings roleplay as the characters
Holy hell. I got one bar -- ONE BAR -- into the vocals, and I already had to fight back tears. What lyrics, and Alan is just phenomenal. Can not wait for this one to hit streamning.
My little secret is that, whenever I feel overwhelmed by how dark, hard or sad life can be sometimes, I listen to this song to cheer me up, and it always works. Thank you!
It's such a good fit. The song was already it's own kind of gospel, about believing, especially believing in the ones you love, even if they, and perhaps especially if, they don't believe in themselves. And sometimes you need to a good word, one telling you that in spite of all your flaws and failures, that you can still do anything. It's not hopeless optimism, it's patience and understanding.
I love the quirky original song, I already loved Insaneintherainmusic's jazz/funk cover, and this took it to new heights. I'm such a big fan of it and the message. I'm actually a very cynical person, but a large part of me still hopes, even if just to hope, that everything will turn out of for the best, just like Pollyanna.
It's such a strange thing too, and hard to relate with others about- the original song is part of a weird but awesome soundtrack, the game it's from was a surreal trip, and the sequels were dark and funny in equal measure at both extremes. How can you explain to someone who's never heard it before how meaningful the song is in just a sentence or two? It's right up there with obscure anime endings with prose lyrics that even in English require deciphering.
The perfect way i can describe this song is literally "hearing happiness"
皆さんの素晴らしい演奏、歌声にたいへんに、感動しました。
あれわしごいですかね?🥲💕
This song was already RELENTLESSLY positive, and Alan's singing sends it to the next level!
The sheer amount of FUNK on this track. Truly, THIS is PK Fire. 🔥🔥🔥
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE! INSTANTLY ADDED TO EVERY PLAYLIST!
Amazing job y'all!!!
The past few weeks have been a bit rough for me and my family, with a couple of close friends going into pretty dark fatalistic places, with an aunt who died yesterday due to losing the battle against cancer, and the shadow of death hanging over one of my grandmas who has been growing worse and worse in health over the last couple of months, but despite that, so many things continue giving me strength to move forward and believe that the "sun will shine again next day", God being one of such reasons. And this song always reinforces said belief, that despite all the darkness in the world, there is still something shiny and bright that is worth believing in.
This particular remix of Pollyanna just made me feel even more hopeful and warm amidst all this turbulent times I have been going thru. Being done in such a jazzy-choir like style also adds such an air of solidarity, as if I am having so many people behind me giving me support.
Thank you so much for this much needed tune, and God bless you all, both The 8-Bit Big Band and everyone else reading this.
So moved to hear the music could provide a little comfort in a dark time.. really appreciate the kind words and thank you so much for listening!!
This needs to go viral like now
Alan H. Green's voice is the sugary syrup that perfectly compliments this orchestral stack of delicious blueberry pancakes. Had to share this with some of my dear friends who love this song. I can't help but feel you arranged this with a similar love for the folks who treasure this melody.
This fourth album is kinda goin crazy rn tbh. These three songs have already MADE the album, super pumped to see what else could possibly be next!!
You can feel the soul in every note. Alan Green f'ing destroys in this arrangement. The band has never sound so well unified. The 8-Bit Big Band never fails to impress. One of favorite on the channel now. Thank you.
💯 For me, 8BBB, The Consouls and J-Music Ensemble never miss
Man, I started tearing up when the Mother 3 crew showed up. I really like Earthbound, but Mother 3 holds a very special place in my heart!
Im glad you liked it! This is for all of those who believe
What an uplifting beam of sunshine for a very weary world.
This better win another Grammy for you guys!
This style or r&b/gospel works so incredibly well with this song! Another banger
Agree, wouldn't have thought of this style as it is so different from The Consouls' cover but both arrangements are very good!
IT'S 2:53 FOR ME!!! It's just SO uplifting... I've waited since you released the teaser for this on Instagram... This sounds incredible... Also there is so much ACTING in his performance... Absolutely fanTASTIC 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🎶🎶💕💕💕🎶🎶🎶🎶
Such a fun and different take on this song! Beautiful arrangement, vocals, and instrumentals 😊 Bravo!
Call this pk flash cuz I can't stop crying
This brings me back to when I was a kid, and my mom would put on Luther Vandross when she was working in the kitchen. 🥰 What an absolutely joyful arrangement. It's nostalgic in all the right ways, just like the Mother series.
I *KNEW* there was a reason this felt so familiar!
You should listen to Charlies arrangement of Never too Much! it features the same vocalist and a lot of the same players.
Absolutely, felt that Luther and Kirk Franklin in this one
@@Cooperink ooohh that's the perfect blend to describe this style!!
You should see Alan H Green's rendition of Never Too Much. If you loved him here, then you'd certainly love his Vandross! 👍🏿✨️
Wow, what was originally a pop song, turned into an R&B song, something I would hear in a 1990s adult contemporary song that you can't help but listen to the full thing time and time again, even if decades pass by, it'll come back for you to listen to the arranged or original version one more time.
This makes me want to cry ever time I hear it. The singer has an amazing voice too
No crying until the end.
Oh, shit. I didn't expect to start crying. This just hit so beautifully I couldn't help it. Thank you guys so much for this.
2:12 The fact that yall worked Kirk Franklin's "Brighter Day" brass break into this song is incredible. 2 incredibly uplifting songs united.
I got chills from the first sung note. Incredible work. Thank you all for it.
I don't even need to watch the full thing to know this is gonna be an outstanding performance.
Been waiting for this to drop ever since I heard it many months ago at your Boston show. Sadly forget the young man who sang it live that night, but my memory of him was so much joy. Made me a fan of the song immediately. This version is also wonderful, but I'll never forget hearing it first with the energy of a live audience.
That would have been the great Shane Danyeko :)
"The way the human spirit should be... I really love this so much."
Just a blissfully positive song. Perfect anti-anxiety medicine
That was an amazing cover, and the animations that accompanied it were great, too! Always a treat to see my boy Teddy gettin' some acknowledgement!
Thank you!
I was cheering when I saw my boy Duster, as well! Love the inclusion of all of the characters!
I'm starting to come around to the idea that there is no such thing as an unlikable song, only an unliked arrangement. This is so good.
I think it is also due to the skill of the arranger. The Consouls also have 350 (and counting) VGM jazz covers, every one of which is amazing. Like 8BBB, they just keep coming out with banger after banger. Bandai Namco even commissioned them to do a cover for them!
@@cooldebt yeah the consouls are definitely pretty underrated i'm always surprised they have so little subscribers
this implies that you did not like the song before tho
@@kayden2119 The original always felt... weird. Like, super-sweet bubblegum.
A gospel rendition feels more bold and mature, more self-serious while still respecting the idea of faith in hope. It works better this way, just my opinion.
Why am I tearing up? 😭
This has to be one of the sweetest, most positive songs ever written, and this rendition of it is great.
I can't overstate how big and dumb of a smile this got out of me. Gospel and Mother 3 music blend together to weirdly nostalgic mix that reminds me so strongly of some of the best parts of my childhood. Thanks for the absolute banger arrangement!
I love how much happiness Alan exudes in this. You can just tell he's having the time of his life!
Every single time i listen to this song i've cried, ITS SO AMAZING ALAN H. GREEN MORE LIKE ALAN H. GOAT, BECAUSE THE WAY HE'S HITTING THOSE NOTES IS INSANE
This is a CERTIFIED HOOD CLASSIC arrangement!! I loved the quote to Kirk Franklin's Brighter Day in the horns, I was bopping along to it!! Amazing vocals as well!!

I like it when memes actually make sense for their context.

Hell, this song may even be enough to make him reform into a good guy.
Been listening once a day at least since I discovered it, cry like a baby literally every time. I've been a musician and music lover for 30 years and this is the single most beautiful piece I've ever heard.
Took my sadness away. Crazy how music can change the way you feel. Think I already played this 5 times.
This. Is. So. Good.
I'm an electrician with my own company. When I'm on a job site working alone, this is in my playlist. Thank you for making this beautiful collaborative work for us to listen to!! I feel so hopeful, motivated and mentally resfreshed whenever this track comes on.
This song literally helped me change my outlook on life. I always knew the mother story, but never played the games myself and this never heard the original song. This was wholly new to me and the way it cut through my depression and spoke to a brighter future brought me to tears.
I listen to the song once every few days at least if not daily to keep my spirits up through troubled times. I've listened to a lot of music that have moved me but this arrangement moved me in a way that is unparalleled to any piece of music I've ever heard before.
Thank you all for this. Thank you so much.
Completely with you. It's been a rough week and this is helping me get back on the ball when I'm so close to the finish line.

Pollyanna is my 10-month-old son's favorite lullaby, no joke. And yes, he fell asleep just now watching your rendition of it with me. (THANK YOU.)
I'm not crying, you're crying. Love all 8-Bit Big Band has done, but this is far and away the best thing you've all ever done. I'm pretty sure I'd be a happy puddle of tears if I got to watch this performed in front of me.
It’s just so…wholesome. From the way the visuals bring together the casts of each game, to the sheer joy exuding from the lead and backup vocalists, this video is just AMAZING!
Seeing Alan Green's eyes shine and sparkle in the shots just add to his beautiful voice. Shows his honest passion and love for the art. LOVE this arrangement.
Yeah this made me cry a bit lol
Chills! Leaning into a gospel style is inspired for this song about belief, and picks up on a lot from the instrumental break of the original. One of my favourite pieces of feel-good video game music of all time, and this arrangement does not disappoint!
I can say for a fact this will forever be my favorite song. when people ask me what my favorite song is, ill show them this. I'm truly infatuated with every aspect of this, from the jazz rendition to the amazing vocals this song is legit a 10/10.
such powerful messaging too, it reminds me that being nice and positive is a beautiful thing, and can be shared with others almost effortlessly. specifically lines like " I believe a dream can still come true, why shouldn't i believe the same in you?" brings me close to tears.
and "you can call me pollyanna, say I'm crazy as a loon, I believe in silver linings and that's why I believe in you " is truly crushing ( with positive emotions). It's like a person who has learned to forgive themself is speaking to someone with a lot of internalized problems, and telling them that they'll support them no matter what. It’s a powerful message for a lot of people today.
This song is like the antithesis of nihilism, the exact opposite of when people say "well the world is cruel, so i can be too"
Fantastic work from everyone who worked on this video, visuals audio, everything.
I think I've listened to this at least once a day for the past week
The lyrics "Well, I still believe in miracles / I swear I've seen a few!" with Alan's earnest performance is what stirs the fizziest mix of emotions in me.
Learn to see everyday occurrences as miracles in the face of existential improbability and it's much easier to relish the little things in life.
I love Pollyanna so much already. It's a positivity boost for me because it tells me that no matter what, someone believes in me and it's ok to do so. And this, this cover, oh my god it amplifies those feelings 10 fold. It's just... i can't describe how this makes me feel. This is beautiful. I love this so deeply.
Been eagerly awaiting this ever since the Instagram snippet. Incredible
been a MOTHER superfan my whole life and like. got. DAMN this was rapturous thank you so much
Transcendent. Words fail to capture how beautiful this performance is!
The vocals are so great. And the harmonic stuff is awesome - I've been listening to "Just the Two of Us" a lot lately and this arrangement scratches the same itch. And it's a nostalgic song from my childhood? Can't be topped. I love it.
KILLER ARRANGEMENT, CHARLIE! Alan H. Green and the rest of the vocalists brought so much life and love to this song, my god. Love the little piano solo and the small references in the animation too. Fuzzy pickles!
wasn't expecting to go to church on a friday but here i am.
Finally, a version of this song that doesn't make me roll my eyes. Mr. Green is incredible, what a voice!
The Consouls' cover is pretty good - they've done Snowbound, Summers Theme and Pollyanna (plus 332 other banger covers from other games)
Yeah a lot of them just end up sounding corny, but this is fantastic. So much soul!
I keep coming back to this one. My favorite thing to, though, do is to scroll through the comments and look for appreciation from an international audience.
It makes me feel even better when I see the occasional Japanese person showing their love for this cover, or when I see someone celebrating everyone's performance in Spanish. If you don't mind me waxing sentimental, it just... it really brings home how truly universal music can be.
This beautifully authentic R&B-style cover of the iconic EarthBound song is truly a tribute to behold! The instrumentals and vocals immediately reminded me of various 90's video game ending themes such as "Dreams Dreams" from the NiGHTS series! Very well done, everyone!
I'm glad someone else said it! I've been thinking about the Christmas Acapella Gospel version of the NIGHTS theme every time I hear this. If 8-Bit ever thought to do so, a cover of that song would amazing 🙏🏿✨️
This song is for everyone who needed a boost. Believe in love. Believe in your best self. Believe in the best for tomorrow.. I believe in you too. And I love you! You're so awesome.
I love the chorus part
When I was younger I swear that I heard a pollyanna cover that sounded very similar to this. It must've been a dream because I've been searching for it for years and have never been able to find anything. So thank you to everyone involved in making this cause it's literally a dream come true
had genuine tears in my eyes when i listened to this
I'm super late to this album by now but if anyone sees this I want you to know. I screamed like a maniac when you interpolated that Kirk Franklin line the first time. My god on today

In the many songs that Earthbound has while Pollyanna is not in top, this rendition gave me the chills and instantly became my favorite. Also props on the video editing, it's great as always.
If you like Earthbound music, you might also like to check out The Consouls' jazz covers (they've covered lots of other VGM also and all 350 tunes are bangers!)
Been listening to this on loop since yesterday. For the first time in long time I have felt genuinely happy. Like my depression has dulled and my schizophrenia has been quite. You have no idea how much this cover means to me right now.

This cover fills me with PK LOVE 💕
First of all, wow! This was just such a treat to hear. Some mighty fine musicians!
2:53 about choked me up. While this is a series I have personally very little exposure in, seeing Mother 3 represented with the lyrics of hope is very clearly a lovely sentiment. I know how much Mother 3 has impacted many players and I believe it could touch a brand new era of gamers, if it ever were to be properly localized by Nintendo. I believe one day this will come to fruition, it’s all we can do is believe!
Thanks for sharing such an incredible and inspiring song.
In all 3 of the games this song reappears and serves as a sort of leitmotif, it’s really common in the second game, mother 2/earthbound
The themes that this song presents, I have never seen more fully realized and brought to life than in this cover. I associate this song with the second game the most as I’m sure many others do, and hearing this just reminds of how large and emotional the story was in that game. If anyone can play any of the mother games, especially the 2 and 3rd, I really would recommend to try them
for me it was 3:14. Idk the idea that a dream can still come true after everything that's happened is just so beautiful and inspiring. At face value the phrase seems childish but that's just how we should live life, with the stubborn optimism of a little kid.
I hope the original composer sees this
The Mother series has always meant a lot to me, and to hear one of my most cherished songs from my childhood being played with so much joy and love almost brought me to tears! :') Great arrangement as always and amazing performance by all the singers!
The MOTHER community is the single greatest fan base in all of media. I truly, sincerely believe that. The passion they have for the games and the things they've been able to create to express that passion is unlike anything else I've seen before. And yet somehow, in some way, out of all the legendary projects and events that have taken place in the MOTHER community over the years, this manages to stand out as one of the greatest labors of love I have ever seen in my entire life. Absolutely incredible. Words fail to fully express just how perfect this was. Amazing, sensational job to everyone involved in bringing this to life.
