    Imagine trying to pull that rear door cover with your nails with smoke and your body on fire and heat, where every second is life or death. How this is allowed by regulators worldwide, is beyond words.

      I think because kids would play with the handle - this is main reason. but honestly in stress its almost impossible to reach it, I would just use front door instead

      @@iManiac7 wtf is that for a reason though... I mean this is a solved problem for decades already. Is it reasonable to ask your grandma to crawl to the front to escape?? Or a 5 year old??? This is bad design. Simple as that.

    Goes to show how much Tesla values the safety of its customers. Can't believe NHTSA approved this door design.

    • @ibsn87
      @ibsn87 Рік тому +1

      I agree the design can be improved - and has. The onus is on the regulators for approving it… but considering all of Teslas cars are considered safest in class, I don’t agree with your statement about them not valuing safety. More specially why has BMW, Toyota and Mercedes been making cars for 100 years and a 13 year old company produces its first cars that are substantially safer then all of the legacy automakers…. And you argue that Tesla doesn’t value safety? Interesting

    • @robertmcgregor9

      Was NHTSA paid off? "Here's $100,000 in hundred-dollar bills. Approve this design!" I would love to be in government where I could order a review of this approval.

    Thanks for the informative video. But, let's be clear, this pull cable is, in no sense of the word, an "emergency" release. Any emergency item must be clearly visible, easily accessible, and must operate without extraordinary effort. This cable is for technical or maintenance purposes if the normal electric switch has failed or power is not available to the car and the door must be opened. Of course, this assumes you can get in the car through an already open door or window. That small access door is impossible to open without some type of small tool, screwdriver, nail file, whatever. But knowing it's there and what is required to use it is better than not knowing about it.

    After seeing this, I actually attached some strong bright pink colored parachute cord to the wire loop and pushed it through the plastic tab. Now if an emergency happens anyone in the back seat can just throw out the seat pocket matting, grab the cord and pull without having to faff around with the plastic tab.

    So, how does someone from the outside open the back doors to help get someone out of a the car in an accident? Even with the back window down, it’s going to take someone who can get their arms and then their hand into this small area just to open the door. Not an easy and quick option when in some incidents every second counts.

    I am not sure, if the rear windows are of a laminate construction, like the front windows are, but it is clear that any one should fully understand their vehicle before use. No excuse for modern vehicles, it's not like the old days.

    Some writers say that owners should read their Owners Manuals.
    I don't know of anyone apart from myself who reads an owners manual in its entirety, but then, I'm only in my 70's. Maybe you know someone.
    I drove a VW for a couple of months which had an Owners Manual of about 256 pages in book form, so you could keep it in the glovebox. Tesla's, I'm presuming will be an online only Owners Manual, or accessible on the car's touch screen; yippee to sitting there to reading 160 pages of the Tesla 3; at least with a book, one can put tape flag sticker on the pages that you want to access quickly without reading through the contents list at the front of the book, or through the Index list at the back of the book, and you don't have to start your PC or your touch screen.

    I think the designers at Tesla must be chaps and or chapesses who are volunteer egg hiders for kiddie Easter Egg Hunts. They've made the mechanical release lever on the front doors the same colour as the trim so you never notice them. If they were chrome plated, they'd be just too easy to find because for at least 60 years, handles have been chrome plated. Without thinking, the brain knows that chrome = door handle.
    Now the rear door mechanical release is impossible to find, and when it is found, too difficult; the rear door mechanical release is the designers magnum opus, their great work, so to speak. I saw another example of stupidity in design just last night, and that was, that when the driver gets into the car and touches the brake pedal, the driver's door closes automatically. How have I managed without this feature over the last 55 years of driving?

    So this is quite the opposite of cars unlocking themselves in cases of emergency. I even saw a Mercedes with seagull wings that blew off the hinges after a crash to facilitate rescue. How the hell do I rescue someone from the outside on a MY that has caught on fire? "Wait here kiddos, just gonna smash the windows, lean in and figure out this houdini escape mechanism in smoke and heat". I was days from ordering a MY when I stumbled upon this video. Insane!

    • @5893MrWilson
      @5893MrWilson Рік тому

      From the outside you just pull the door handle. The door handle mechanically operates the door latch. Honestly this is way overblown. 99% of the time, if a crash is bad enough to cause a battery fire, the door is likely deformed and jammed shut. Keep a window break tool in any car
