Tai Lung is relatable on a humane level because he perfected himself just to make Shifu proud, and he feels like his right to become the Dragon Warrior has been stripped away from him. Shen was always viewed negatively by his parents, who loved him unconditionally, and he found solace in the destructive capability of gunpowder. And he manipulatively mirrored it to Po, who wanted to know the truth about his own past. But Po, after gaining inner peace, managed to move forward from the tragedy unlike Shen. Tai Lung was one of the very few to master the 1000 scrolls of Kung Fu next to Oogway himself and is shown that Tai actually mastered chi but in a dark way,to learn chi he mostly learned it from Oogway, it had to be taught by someone who already knew how to control it aka Pandas, the Pandas after Shens invasion became lazy, and lost the secrets of their martial arts, Tai knew the Pandas that the world knew were gone by the time he learned how to control chi so when he sees the Dragon Warrior is none other than a Panda it legit looks like a joke “He’s the Dragon Warrior?! Him??? He’s a Panda, YOUR A PANDA. What are you gonna do big guy sit on me??”
Idk if this is factual but I remember once reading that Shen's backstory was that he was always viewed as being sick and weak due to him being albino That would only make his story even more tragic as he didnt just grow evil and obsessed with the power of fireworks, but his dark path originated from his insecurity that couldn't even be filled, as he said himself, with all of China
Tai Lung represented an obstacle to Po’s journey into becoming the dragon warrior. A physical opponent, Po had to learn to overcome his weaknesses to become a Kung Fu Panda. Shen represented an obstacle to Po’s journey into becoming the dragon warrior. A mental opponent, Po had to overcome and accept his past to become a greater Kung Fu Panda. Kai represented an obstacle to Po’s journey into becoming the dragon warrior. A spiritual opponent, Po had to learn who he was and what he was meant to be in order to overcome his opponent and become the true Kung Fu Panda.
I don't think Kai would have had Shens chi, sense unlike other characters, it didn't seem like he would have the chi Kai would be looking for unlike other kung fu masters he caught and turned into his jombies
I actually like the sky motif and nightly battles that they use for Kung Fu Panda villains. For Tai Lung's, the skies were gray, dark, and stormy. Po defeats Tai Lung under the light of the sun. For Shen's, the clouds were crimson and dark as a setting sun. Po defeats Shen at sunrise For Kai's, the sky was gloomy, cold, snd jaded. Po defeats Kai in the brightness of the spirit realm upon mastering Chi
It's a big shame they left Kai's descend into darkness unexplained cause if his reasoning was to protect his brother but once this said brother betrayed him, he would realize no one loved him but himself, leading into his quest to acquire power and use it to protect himself was his actual backstory, he would be in par with both Tai Lung and Shen in the complexity department
What I find similar about these three is that in their own opinions their family figures (Shifu, Shen's Parents and Oogway) betrayed them and they just wanted to make them happy, but their thirst for more power corupted them and they underestimated their enemies resulting in their defeats.
Tai Lungs story also kinda explains why Shi Fu was so against Po becoming the dragon warrior. Not only his students were basically told "None of you are worthy of the thing you trained for all this time.", but this random, fat and unskilled Panda now was taking away the place he wanted his son to take.
I love Tai Lung and Shen cause they get this small moment where you get to see their mask fall and get a quick glimpse of seeing their pain, their lost due to them being rejected by their family and sadness until they quickly come back to being monsters again
He’s comical without it undermining the threat he carries as a villain and I like it. When you’re a genuine threat and a force of nature, you can afford to crack some jokes
it’s crazy how shen & kai are actually both against pandas cause shen knew that a warrior of black & white was going to defeat him & decided to hunt down pandas, plus for Kai he even wanted to steal chi from pandas & decided to turn into the dark side which is a crazy theory though
well Oogway's quote about destiny is basically rooted from Greek tragedies (e.g. "Oedipos Tyrannos", Danaë mentioned in "Antigone", Zeus's potential unseater in "Prometheus Desmotes") also headcanon Shen's research was probably originally alchemical in nature (i.e. *eternal life* if going by his way of thinking + how you defined 神), mirroring RL Taoist origins of the invention of gunpowder (火藥 lit. "fire medicine") green as an "evil" color is mostly a *Shakespearean invention (Othello & Merchant of Venice)* ; in China green (either 青 or 綠 depending on context) is a color associated with life & vitality, similar to neighboring cultures as well as the West in general also for the Chinese, high quality jade was *preferably light green to almost white* , not vegetable-esque green as most Westerners think
I was always curious about the snow leopards, like what happened years ago that would force them to abandon one child-Tai lung, given how he apparently had a sibling which I’m assuming they were the older one and they were able to grow up and have a child that also had natural talent for Kung fu
I like to think that each of Po’s villains helped him with a certain strength, Ti Lung being physical strength, Shen being his emotional & mental strength and Kai being his spiritual strength! And I think Oogway could have easily beat Kai, but he did say “it was never my destiny to stop you, I have set another on that path.”
In regards to Kai and the green color of taking Chi; "the more you take the less you have," quoting Oogway. When you take someone's Chi it corrupts the Chi and compresses it. When all you want it the stuff, you lose the value of what they stuff is. Hence why Kai couldn't take Po's Chi, because it was given and the none corrupted Chi. "...it's too much, too much..."
I’m stoked to see a video on this trilogy. Absolutely love Kung Fu Panda and definitely a set of movies you can watch over and over. I have to agree with previous comments that Tai Lung is the one you can relate with the most, but as for best villains I have to go with Kai because he’s not just relatable with that hurt of feeling “betrayed” and what length some will go through when they’ve been betrayed, but also one that was so close with the strongest kung fu master we seen with Oogway so we knew he was going to be beyond a threat leading to an amazing story. Truly such a a amazing trilogy which you had perfectly represented.
Shen will always have a place as the best KFP villain. KFP2 was one of the best movies I remember as a little kid lol. So much emotion and Shen is fucking badass
@@Nabnab_TheTwistedOne That's not his backstory, because he and Oogway used to be war generals that conquered everything. It alludes that even Oogway committed atrocities in life.
Out of the three villains Shen is the most evil and selfish villains in Kung Fu Panda; he killed Po's parents, destroyed his his home, and causes pain to everyone around him. (Himself included)
In my opinion... Tai Lung did became the dragon warrior just not with the master's approval... His style was what I assume the warrior to be... He was in control until the last fight
This isn’t a prediction, per se, but I’d love if the next movie follows the redemption of Tai Lung. It’d be fire if an army of Snow Leopards invaded Po’s city, and it forces him to reflect on how he handled Tai Lung, outright killing him before understanding him first. One trip to the spirit realm, and Tai is still struggling with his history, with Shifu betraying him. Po attempts to reconcile with him throughout the film to mixed results. His arc can continue past this point, but for the movie it’d be really satisfying if he helped Po to ward off the people that abandoned him long before Shifu ever did. Even better if the one organizing the invasion was Tai’s mother, who unwillingly left him at the Master’s Temple after deciding she didn’t want a life of war for her son.
It’s odd to me that Oogway left the possibility of leaving the Spirit Realm on the table. Also odd is us learning the nature of what the Wu-Shi Finger Hold actually does. All in the third film, possibly a direct preceding to the fourth film coming up. It’s also never sat right with me that Tai Lung is so sympathetic compared to the other genocidal/ psychopathic villains that came after him. He deserves that redemption arc.
No but Tai Lung's face lightening once Shifu tells him he was always proud and that he's sorry that he lied to him throughout all those years ago. It's so goddamn good
It was weird that Chi would corrupt Kai; dude was already a legendary warrior and leader of armies so its not like he was corrupted by power; he already had it in spades.
I just realized that the story of Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2 and the story of Fire Lord Sozen from Avatar: The Last Airbender are eerily similar. Both Sozen and Shen wanted an empire to rule over they wanted people to fear them and they wanted power so they did whatever it took to realize their efforts. they both discovered that someone who would try to stand in their way for Sozen It would be the next avatar for Shen, a warrior so they both committed genocide to ensure that would not happen. Sozen knew the next Avatar would be an Air Nomad so he set off to end them all while Shen knew the warrior would be a panda and did the same to the pandas. Fortunately the mother of the warrior panda sent him away so that he could grow up peacefully while the Avatar hid in Ice to avoid capture by the Fire Nation. They were both discovered by people for the panda it was his soon to be Adoptive Goose Father Mr. Ping for the Avatar two Water Tribe teens Sokka and Katara. Both the Avatar and Panda defeated their Tyrannical opponents and restored balance to the world.
sir, that's a crazy and mind-blowing parallel theory!!! i'm rewatching ATLA, and just watched KFP2 on TV...and the way you connected the similar plot structure is just amazing🤯👏🏻

To be honest, Tai Lung is my favorite villain out of the core three villains from Kung Fu Panda. Like how the Incredible Hulk would be my favorite out of the six core Avengers.
Tai Lung's story is Shifu's failure, and even Ooogway. You can't push someone from childhood in only one direction and then be surprised when the push stops. He should have been taught balance and discipline and why his power should be used to protect others and not just himself.
Lord Shen is my all time fave ever villain of any animated film … he was so good and I loved him, I mean for a bird who is so loved, a peacock to be a villain … ICONIC
Wow! How did more than half and hour fly by like that! I’m not even a huge KFP fan but this was such an insightful and well summarised video of all the villains. I love the deep dive and the analysis of the depth of the antagonist in the story. Subscribed and I can’t wait to see the video after KFP 4 comes out!
Another reason why I like lord Shen, more than the other two villains is because he’s more connected to Po and he did more damage to Po then the other two did
Kung Fu Panda 4 spoilers I like how even Tai Lung accepted that Po was more worthy than he ever was to be the chosen as the Dragon Warrior 🐉 . Even bowing before him alongside his other enemies as a gesture of respect. Just shows that he wasn’t PURE EVIL deep down.
Kai was never a "good guy" or a war hero. They both were conquerors, Oogway was the one who had a change of heart in which is why Kai felt betrayed since Oogway didn't follow him with his path to conquest. Oogway most likely realized there was another way to make an impact in the world without violence in which translates to Kung fu well since Kung Fu is about Self-defense and usually is very defensive and reacting with your opponent's attacks.
Tai Lung:The Most Baddas😎Kung-fu Panda Villain Lord Shen:The Most Popular and Iconic Kung-fu Panda Villain Kai the Collector:The Most Powerful Kung-fu Panda Villain
never been a fan of shen. pun intended. but after this I see the deeper meaning behind him and I appreciate him more. Kai has been my favorite of the 3 for a while but there's something sad about Tai lungs ending. I wanted him to have a happy ending after the first movie. for him to be trained alongside the true dragon warrior and realize his mistakes.
Oogway did not purposely erase Kai's memories. In fact, Oogway wrote them down so that they would not be lost! Oogway was beloved because of how long he had lived and the good he had done. Could Oogway have persuaded Kai to use his newfound power in a better way than literally destroying innocent lives?
Hey Isaac, have you heard the new about Phineas and Ferb returning for two whole brand new seasons? Are you excited for it to? What do you expect to see in the new seasons?
I would honestly love to see Tai Lung coming back from the spirit world to get revenge. And if that didn't happen maybe having a relative of his come to show his worth because of his or her family name.
No he doesn't. He wasn't justified in attempted murder on Shifu's life and didn't hesitate to attempt and kill Po despite him trying to reason with him.
He doesnt, he try to murder everyone just bc he wasnt choose to be the dragon warrior, also he never showed anything good as a person ,so why he deserves a redemotion arc?
In April 2023, during CinemaCon, it was announced that Mike Mitchell will direct the film, with Stephanie Ma Stine as a co-director and Rebecca Huntley as a producer, while Jack Black revealed the story, which follows Po trying to find a new Dragon Warrior while facing a new villain, the Chameleon.
my ranking for the villains is: 1. Tai Lung 2. Kai 3. Lord Shen I know some ppl are gonna argue that lord shen is better than kai better i just like kai better, i understand that ppl are gonna say that he had the closest connection to the protagonist but this is my opinion and i just like kai better because he was just more intriguing to me and he had the best score, he was also way more stronger which mad him a bigger threat so yeah i just like him better.
allowing Tai Lung to return as a Villain, but perhaps a bit more spiritual, since he is already dead, it could be interesting. seeing as Ta Lung was incredibly powerful AND skilled, by then also being a Spirit Warrior, he could give Po the greatest and perhaps even last challenge of his life.
Its crazy how if someone just told Tai Lung "Yo you aren't a dragon warrior but you bassicaly are the second most knowledged Kung-Fu fighter IN HISTORY and thats badass!" That whole thing would have been avoided.
Wait, so the biggest villain of all is the goat lady. She knew he was listening in and knew that all the other pandas would be killed. That means she is the one who let him listen in, so the prophecy comes true!!!!

That would only make his story even more tragic as he didnt just grow evil and obsessed with the power of fireworks, but his dark path originated from his insecurity that couldn't even be filled, as he said himself, with all of China
In my opinion it would have been awesome! To see kai unleash tai lung and shen as his jombies in the final battle to show how far po has grown!
I don't think Kai would have had Shens chi, sense unlike other characters, it didn't seem like he would have the chi Kai would be looking for unlike other kung fu masters he caught and turned into his jombies
@@jayflare7580 he turned the furious 5 how wouldn't he?
The Prison Breakout scene with Tai Lung will always be my favourite from these movies
Po defeats Shen at sunrise
For Kai's, the sky was gloomy, cold, snd jaded.
What’s crazy about tai lung is that he was trapped in an immovable state for decades yet proceeds to clap everyone he came across until he met po
Tai Lung was the unstoppable force until Po became the immovable object.
I love Tai Lung and Shen cause they get this small moment where you get to see their mask fall and get a quick glimpse of seeing their pain, their lost due to them being rejected by their family and sadness until they quickly come back to being monsters again
I like Kai the most because he is probably the strongest out of any of the villains but yet he’s so comical
My absolute favorite animated film series... I've been a martial artist myself for 32 years... and the stories speak volumes to me!
well Oogway's quote about destiny is basically rooted from Greek tragedies (e.g. "Oedipos Tyrannos", Danaë mentioned in "Antigone", Zeus's potential unseater in "Prometheus Desmotes")
also headcanon Shen's research was probably originally alchemical in nature (i.e. *eternal life* if going by his way of thinking + how you defined 神), mirroring RL Taoist origins of the invention of gunpowder (火藥 lit. "fire medicine")
green as an "evil" color is mostly a *Shakespearean invention (Othello & Merchant of Venice)* ; in China green (either 青 or 綠 depending on context) is a color associated with life & vitality, similar to neighboring cultures as well as the West in general
also for the Chinese, high quality jade was *preferably light green to almost white* , not vegetable-esque green as most Westerners think
I was always curious about the snow leopards, like what happened years ago that would force them to abandon one child-Tai lung, given how he apparently had a sibling which I’m assuming they were the older one and they were able to grow up and have a child that also had natural talent for Kung fu
Lord Shen attacked them because they were Balck and white
Just a theory
Tai Lung: Amazing Character.
Lord Shen: Extremely Evil.
Kai: Literally Kratos.
Honestly, Tai Lung should get his own movie. Where he was born, why he was abandoned, how he was trainend, how he fall and went to prison.
Tai Lung and Lord Shen were the Kung Fu Panda Trilogy's greatest villains they have tragic backstories
Shen could also be considered a warrior of black and white, so ironically, he was defeated by himself, like in the movie
Tai Lung = Best Fighter 💪
Lord Shen = Best Villain 😈
Kai = Best Theme 🎶
True
Shen will always have a place as the best KFP villain. KFP2 was one of the best movies I remember as a little kid lol. So much emotion and Shen is fucking badass
@@AloIan_Vulpix true but Tai Lung is a nice villain too
@Cartoonist Louis to be fair Kai's backstory is lame because it's just a villain who wanted more powers
@@Nabnab_TheTwistedOne That's not his backstory, because he and Oogway used to be war generals that conquered everything.
It alludes that even Oogway committed atrocities in life.
In an alternate universe
"He would be defeated by a warrior of black, and white"
*Shen goes on to commit genocide on the Zebras*
This comment is so underrated
I'm kinda sad Kai never used Tai Lung in a fight.
He needed tai lung chi
@@loveladii69 He had Tai Lung's chi, he just never used it.
@@milansoltesz9395 no he needed tai lung chi for power
It's like when he make it into jade people they have their own power taking away his
I see, well it could be a logical explonation.
Lord shen is similar to Voldemort. Two villains who tried to escape their destiny but they only sealed it with their awful actions
If Shen hadn't eavesdropped on the prediction, then it might have been different, perhaps Shen would have expected a better future.
Out of the three villains Shen is the most evil and selfish villains in Kung Fu Panda; he killed Po's parents, destroyed his his home, and causes pain to everyone around him. (Himself included)
many don't realize that shen was defeated by a warrior of black and white, himself.
I always believed someone would have mentioned that in the movie.
It's so goddamn good
ikr like Tai Lung still has some goodness in him, even if it were for a fraction of a second
Isaac, do the Full Backstory of Mr. Big please? That'd be a fun one especially since we now know he had involvement with the creation of Tundratown.
Just watch the Godfather 2 =)
It was weird that Chi would corrupt Kai; dude was already a legendary warrior and leader of armies so its not like he was corrupted by power; he already had it in spades.
Losing the last battle and almost his brother
so he need more power to never lose again

Thanks for nailing them all down. You did a great job man.👍😎
its so good am in love u just needed some music in the back
but this is gold well done dude
Aang reminds me of Po
The Fight between Tia Lung and Kai was probably the most epic destructive and devastating Fight ever that we never got to see.

To be honest, Tai Lung is my favorite villain out of the core three villains from Kung Fu Panda. Like how the Incredible Hulk would be my favorite out of the six core Avengers.
I feel like I have the most empathy for Tai Lung. He's a great character, and I think Shen is a close second.
Tai Lung's story is Shifu's failure, and even Ooogway. You can't push someone from childhood in only one direction and then be surprised when the push stops. He should have been taught balance and discipline and why his power should be used to protect others and not just himself.
Just blame Oogway for Tai's madness
They should have taught him more on what you just said rather than just fighting
Shen accepted his death, in his last seconds you could see it. I guess his emotional pain was over
Lord Shen is my all time fave ever villain of any animated film … he was so good and I loved him, I mean for a bird who is so loved, a peacock to be a villain … ICONIC
Fr and his story is kinda sad....
Another reason why I like lord Shen, more than the other two villains is because he’s more connected to Po and he did more damage to Po then the other two did
These are the common villains shown in these kind of videos, but what about Fenghuang? The owl that was part of the first five and became evil?
Kung Fu Panda 4 spoilers
I like how even Tai Lung accepted that Po was more worthy than he ever was to be the chosen as the Dragon Warrior 🐉 . Even bowing before him alongside his other enemies as a gesture of respect. Just shows that he wasn’t PURE EVIL deep down.
When Oogway said, "The more you take, the less you have." It was a moment frfr
Shens voice actor was really amazing.
They all were
Kai was never a "good guy" or a war hero.
The moment you try to change your fate is the moment you seal it.
I hope Tai Lung finds peace in the spirit realm.
Thank you for posting the video. I've always wondered about the villains in the "Kung Fu Panda" movies.
Hey Isaac, have you heard the new about Phineas and Ferb returning for two whole brand new seasons? Are you excited for it to? What do you expect to see in the new seasons?
Omg
your explanations of characters are amazing bro rs i’ve never seen somebody be able to get the message across as well as you have
I would honestly love to see Tai Lung coming back from the spirit world to get revenge. And if that didn't happen maybe having a relative of his come to show his worth because of his or her family name.
you got a point cuz some times peppele say that kai is weak but he can take chi
I hope Ty Lung gets a Redemption Arc. He deserves it.
Yeah well sorry but it is not going to happen because Tai Lung is dead
No he doesn't. He wasn't justified in attempted murder on Shifu's life and didn't hesitate to attempt and kill Po despite him trying to reason with him.
He doesnt, he try to murder everyone just bc he wasnt choose to be the dragon warrior, also he never showed anything good as a person ,so why he deserves a redemotion arc?
I came upon your vid when the KFP4 trailer came out today; wonderful energy and content!! And a great catch up for the 3 prior movies. Thank you!!
This is epic excellent work dude.
Respect and keep up the epic work.
I thank the 2am UA-cam algorithms for suggesting this to me, I never knew I needed this information. Amazing video btw!
my ranking for the villains is:
1. Tai Lung
2. Kai
3. Lord Shen
I know some ppl are gonna argue that lord shen is better than kai better i just like kai better, i understand that ppl are gonna say that he had the closest connection to the protagonist but this is my opinion and i just like kai better because he was just more intriguing to me and he had the best score, he was also way more stronger which mad him a bigger threat so yeah i just like him better.
allowing Tai Lung to return as a Villain, but perhaps a bit more spiritual, since he is already dead, it could be interesting. seeing as Ta Lung was incredibly powerful AND skilled, by then also being a Spirit Warrior, he could give Po the greatest and perhaps even last challenge of his life.
Fun Fact: Kai in Maori/Te Reo means food which is a funny way of thinking about the villain
I swear all three of them had something to do with the major characters past, like Tai Lung with Shi Fu, Shen with Po and Kai with Oogway
This guy went real deep into cartoon villains
What in the world! I went back to where you showed Tai Lung's little green thing and I actually saw it!
Seems like the smart thing for kai to do in that final battle was to use Oogways chi for that final battle.
Now imagine that the way you explained Kai was executed well in Kung Fu Panda 3
Would've made Kai much more of a memorable villain
In my opinion
Kai deserved better imo

We love you from guyana 🇬🇾 ❤
I always thought kai made his blades from the double blades weapon that oogway broke in half. Guess i might be wrong 😅
I love the Kung fu Panda franchise it has awesome characters and villains thanks for making videos Isaac ❤
I will admit my most favourite character was Tai Lung, but my most favourite villain boss music was when po fought with Kai the song was pretty good
Its crazy how if someone just told Tai Lung "Yo you aren't a dragon warrior but you bassicaly are the second most knowledged Kung-Fu fighter IN HISTORY and thats badass!" That whole thing would have been avoided.
I don’t know about that
Wait, so the biggest villain of all is the goat lady. She knew he was listening in and knew that all the other pandas would be killed. That means she is the one who let him listen in, so the prophecy comes true!!!!
