Maybe something Po will invent, I mean all other things Po learned was invented by someone else, Kung fu was invented by Oogway as well as inner peace, and giving chi was something the pandas invented but as Shifu said, Po learned everything in an really young age so I see Po learning to do something not even Oogway did, Master his Chakra’s. That form of Kung fu would be Po’s OWN thing! It wouldn’t be something someone else knows so Po wouldn’t be able to know anything about except for discovering its true potential and then learning that to others. Even Oogway would happily ask if he can learn it and congratulate Po as surpassing Oogway as his successor.

Shen may have felt that his parents didn't love him after his banishment, but what he doesn't know is that banishment was the most merciful act his parents ever did, that it drove them to suicide thinking that their son will never forgive them. If it was someone else who massacred half of the pandas they would be imprisoned, or worse, sentenced to death.

    • @robonaught
      @robonaught 3 роки тому +321

I don't think his parents committed suicide. I think they just flat out died because banishing him made them fall into such a deep state of despair that they just died from it. Some people can just flat out die like that because they mentally lose the will to live and it can have a toll on their health.

Look at Shen’s face when the canon is about to fall on and kill Shen, He accepted his fate. Also, we all know Shen is the color white. I wouldn't say Shen defeated himself he only accidently took his own life. Po had already defeated Shen by the time the wolf army was gone and all his canons were destroyed with no one or nothing to command. Po beating Shen wouldn't necessarily mean that he'd have to kill the peacock cause that's not in the panda's character or the nature of a hero.

*Plot twist theory:* During that final fight against Po Shen had cut the support ropes on purpose. Not in a attempt to kill Po, but to commit suicide. He already knew he lost everything and deep down he felt nothing but sorrow and guilt for all the terrible decisions he has made. So he decided to commit suicide by pretending to fight Po in a final battle. Somehow he knew what Po said to him was right.
Po: *"All that stuff from the past doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is what you chose to be now"*
But at the same time Shen also knew that what he said to Po was right.
    Shen: *"Scars don't heal"*
And Shen had been inflicting scars on not only Po and the rest China, but also on himself. He only realized the errors of his ways at the final moment during that final discussion with Po. But he felt so guilty that he just couldn't live with himself due to all the horrible things he's done. Even if he wanted to be redeemed he just knew that it wouldn't erase all the terrible decisions he made and all the people/animals he traumatized. So he decided to do the one thing to fix the problem. In one last action Shen has committed suicide by pretending to attack Po.
*All because he couldn't heal his own scars*
This is a theory that I made up. I put a lot of thought into this. Some people would call me out and say I'm wrong but it's their choice to believe it or not. Shen was such an interesting villain that I felt completely fascinated with. I would say he's one of my favorite Villains next to Syndrome. Even though they are both from different companies.

These are not in the movie, but two more things add to his desperate need to rise above everyone and prove himself:
    1. He was born very weak and the reason the Soothsayer became his nanny was to heal him. He couldn’t leave the Tower as a child... so obviously he hated it.
    2. His white color as you said symbolizes death and the other noble peacocks marked his as a bad omen and unfit to inherit a throne. Shen couldn’t forget, that there is something fundamentally wrong with him, what he can’t change and he furiously tried to prove them wrong too by becoming Emperor.

In the end, I think Shen's death is a perfect symbol for his life. Blinded by his desire to achieve his goal (albeit misguidedly), Shen cut the connections that kept his life together (horrifying his parents, leaving the only home he'd ever known, wrongfully regaining his title, etc.), without ever regarding the consequences of his actions. In the end, when he realized what he had done, it was already too late.

The thing that gets me about Shen is that even though he discovered the destructive properties of the gunpowder he was never taught that he shouldn't use those properties or that such power should be only used a certain way, they instead decided to just ask the sooth sayer and that prophecy is what truly lead him down that road. If he had never over heard that prophecy he would never have attacked the pandas and could have been lead down a proper path. The parents may have cared but it was because they choose to look for a prophecy instead of just teaching him he headed down the wrong path. They cannot be blamed for him continuing it but they are the reason he started. I imagine he didn't know the prophecy was about him being evil only that someone stops his rule, the very thing he's been taught that he was supposed to do when he grew up. If you think genocide is your best option you are already pretty evil. I think at that point Shen already had the ambition to conquer China. I wonder why the soothsayer never set out to follow Shen after he was banished if she really cared for him. Maybe she could have changed his mind with enough time. @@iclynnx Gary Stus can have flaws. The problem is Po's flaws do not really hold him back. He is able to defeat Tai Lung with a fraction of the training of the Furious Five. And he just so happened to have the perfect counter to Tai Lung's paralysis move.
And he is able to achieve Inner Peace at a young age. Where Kung Fu masters like Shifu have not managed that. Shifu himself acknowledges that. Po barely needs to try to achieve feats no other Kung Fu warrior has been able to do, and he makes it look comparatively easy.
Yes, it's a very cartoony world, but the other characters seem more restricted by the feats they can pull off. Po is THE most powerful character in his universe, in spite of his lack of training, he makes it seem these amazing feats just come naturally to him.
THAT makes Po a Garu Stu. He succeeds in spite of his flaws and surpasses Kung Fu masters who have trained their entire lives. He becomes The Dragon Warrior through dumb luck. Being in the right place at the right time. Plus he is literally The Chosen One as of Kung Fu Panda 2.

11:51 I disagree. For once he fully realizes what he is doing. He feels like he has nothing left to live for. He cuts the cords on purpose so that Po won’t detain him. This is evident as he accepts looks at his weapon and accepts his death allowing the very weapon that he built to destroy, destroy himself. It’s poetic as for once in his life his destruction led to what he wanted instead of having unintended consequences. Dark for a dream works movie I know.
Edit: Also Shen in In his final moments as he looked up at the weapon that fell and crushed him finally felt happy for the first time in a long time after he got kicked out by his parents. He died happy as he finally accepted his fate that he himself set out. In short he came to peace knowing his actions were wrong and the initial cause of his unhappiness, finally coming to terms with himself.

      Fluffo Doggo I’m always right.
All jokes aside though I didn’t intend that comment to be that way. The key words at the beginning being “I disagree.” This means I disagree with your viewpoint, this is mines and how I saw the scene. I provide evidence that supports my viewpoint but in no way making the only correct viewpoint. In no way does this statement claim I’m right or wrong.
It’s a movie. The beauty of movies are that different people will interpret scenes in a certain way. Especially in a scene left open such as this one.
So I don’t know why you are attacking me.
My intitial comment wasn’t attacking the content creator in anyway either. I just shared how I saw it and I’m sure he is open to hearing what others think. I don’t know how you see this as an attack as if I’m saying “your video is bad because I disagree.” I enjoyed the video. If I did not I would not have took the time to make such a comment sharing my viewpoint on this particular scene. Video was well made. The comment section was created to share ideas based on the video. I literally used it for the right purpose. I’m sure if the content creator didn’t want us to share our ideas he would have shut off comments on this video. But he did not so I took the opportunity to share my idea. I apologize if I’m enthusiastic about film and like talking about them.
I am open to hearing how you interpreted this scene if you disagree with what I said in the initial comment
Edit: no offense but do people have to clarify in their comments, “I’m not saying I’m right but” or “I’m not attacking you but” in order for you to understand it and not be over sensitive about it.
If you were that upset about my comment why waste the time to reply. Just dislike it and move on with your day. In this world your not going to agree with everything people say or do. And if you don’t understand that it would be difficult taking certain steps in your life.

Honestly, I couldn't agree more: Shen's parents loved him so much and gave him everything, but they never told him "using the fireworks' destructive force is a no-no" or "to be a ruler is to be selfless and serve your people".
Shen couldn't let go of his past, his pain, his parents' dissapointment in his actions, or his obsession for power and control.
I liked his character and how he wasn't just evil for the fun of it. His inner turmoil was visible in his actions and his words. He couldn't realize the danger he was because he was blinded by his goal to take over China and to make his parents proud.

I will say this once, and I will continue to say it, the people who cast Gary Oldman as Lord Shen did a brilliant job!
I also love how there are so many strong examples of Master Oogway's words of wisdom from the first film that applies to Lord Shen's character, such as:
    • _“You are too concerned about what was and what will be.”_
    • _"When the path you walk always leads back to yourself, you never get anywhere.”_
    • _"One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.”_
    • _“You must let go of the illusion of control.”_
    • _“When will you realise, the more you take, the less you have.”_
It is quotes like these that show why Shen is such a brilliantly thought out character, who unlike Tai Lung who was more of the physical aspect, Shen was the psychological one and therefore much more of a threat to Po.
It is clear that the people at Dreamworks who worked on Kung Fu Panda 2 did their homework well and it shows. 🦚

I also interpret it this way, when Shen attacked the panda village and returned to his parents, as soon as he saw the horror on their faces, he may have thought that perhaps he had gone too far, but it was already too late to turn back, because the The path he chose had no return, he would have to conquer China even if it wasn't what he really wanted or what brought him satisfaction and happiness, as he couldn't just give up considering that all his atrocities committed would have been in vain.

Honestly I don't think I'll ever understand Shen. There's just so much missing contexts we never see and were never explained. I can respect that they made him irredeemable. It's realistic. There are a lot of people who would rather die than have to change the narrative or identity they've built for themselves.
The question still remains: how did two loving parents raise such a problematic little monster? Or did they just make the same mistake as Shifu and allow their love for their son to blind them to all of the warning signs of his sociopathic and destructive tendencies. Honestly. For his crimes Shen should have been executed or imprisoned for life. Banishment was a slap on the wrist. That's how I feel anyways. I can't imagine the distress his parents must have put up with afterwards. They likely would have had to earn the trust of their people while also grappling with the guilt of failing as parents.

Albino's are often seen as outcasts or freaks/failures of nature and especially for proud creatures like peacocks (who use their colourful feathers to attract mates and stand up other males and predators) that's a really big deal. Albinism can lead to many hardships, both in body and mind.
I'm not excusing Shen's behaviour solely on that though and I refuse to belief that his parents had nothing to do with fueling the hate even if they never meant to. Either that or Shen was born mentally unstable due to his genetic 'defect' and messed up in the head from the start.

I kind of feel bad for Shen, being basically abandoned by your parents must be horrible. Of course what he did to the panda village was horrible but I don't really believe he would end up like that if his parents had raised him differently.
Tai Lung is my favorite villain, he deserved way more..
He did everything just to make Shifu proud and even after many years he didn't want to hurt him.
He was even abused by the guards.
The difference between him and the other five is the fact that he didn't have friends to support him.
And to me Oogway should have explained to shifu that tai lung wasn't meant to be the dragon warrior from the beginning. But of course we wouldn't do that, they needed him as a villain in order to give Po what he needed.

One thing about Po as a protagonist is that he’s not at all a pacifist, he will kill his enemies if that’s what needs to be done to save people. It is because of it that I will always find ever so poignant that Shen, the villain who took the most from Po, was the only main antagonist of the trilogy that Po didn’t kill.

They were all different tho, he kind of had to prove himself in the first movie, he was kind of too young to remember shen to even want to kill him as much, he had to remember what happened. Po has remorse, he’s a sweet, humble panda. That’s what shen lacked. The third one kai was basically already dead he just had to send him back because he was putting everyone in stone. Death was too good for shen, I think they would’ve locked him up. He knew it that’s why he let the pole fall on him.

The scene of po hurling the cannon balls back at shen was a beautiful way of symbolizing their relationship, shen being the aggressor destroyed the early parts of po's life (this is represented by shen firing the cannonballs) but because po was able to do what shen could not and let go he was then able to take the pain shen had given him (po catching the cannonballs) and use it against shen to defeat him (po throwing back the cannonballs and showing how the pain shen had caused po made him stronger because he has now found inner peace)

I always kinda hoped that Shen jumped out of the way before the canon fell and is secretly plotting his revenge
IMO he's too good of a villian to be killed like that☹️
I liked that they showed his ruthless side, like him killing his wolf general, actually killing a master of Kung Fu (Master Rhino), how he threatened the wolf general, how he laughed when he destroyed his ancestral home, how he played with Po's mind and emotions, how he almost killed Po
    Shen was just awesome🔥⚔️

Shen is what happens when someone refuses to let go of their anger and hate. You can just look in his eyes and know intimately the exact bitterness he's wallowing in. The saddest part is how the soothsayer speaks to him so tenderly and gives him so many chances to return to the sweet light of mercy, and though you search his face fervently for a glimmer of remorse, nothing but scorn materializes. He doesn't really believe any of the things he says to her, he just says those things because he refuses to forgive.

The saddest thing about Shen's death wasn't only him accepting his faith, but it was also him choosing death as an escape for inner peace. In the scene where Po says "you can choose who you want to be" Shen actually chooses death. I think he's the best villain out of the three and he for sure is my favorite movie villain of all time.

  • @billystokes3917
    @billystokes3917 3 роки тому +3

There's a theory that Shen was the Master Peacock. There's not a lot of evidence but there's one bit. After the final battle, after Po achieves inner peace and destroys Shen's fleet, Shen asks "How did you achieve peace?". This implies that he knows the technique Po used. Only Kung Fu masters know the technique. Oh and the fact that he's an incredible fighter even against Kung Fu masters.
Also Kung Fu Panda 3 had a missed opportunity to bring Tai Lung back. He was skadooshed a.k.a sent to the spirit world so he could've appeared and maybe helped Po because he's acknowledged his strength.

I think Shen might have felt guilt and had an epiphany from his conversation with Po. But because he had chosen this path to villainy, and having lost everything, he saw no other way to live.
You could see it in his final moments. Instead of struggling to live, to escape. There was resignation in his face when his death was imminent. 12:01
In a way, he chose his fate to the very end.
