The fact that Suicide is now marked as an offensive word in 2023 is utterly pathetic and counter productive to trying to do something about it.

    • @andrew6978
      @andrew6978 Рік тому +6

It's not "offensive", but youtube doesn't want videos advocating it on their platform and advertisers certainly don't want to be associated with promoting it either, which is entirely correct even if the method is a bit draconian. Maybe future AI will be able to interpret the usage of the word, but until then.....

@@andrew6978The banning of the word is absurd. If the video in question is advocating for suicide, then remove the video. Removing the word in a blanket ban is the most arbitrary measure and typical of the narrow thinking of the times. If in doubt, ban.

It’s 2023 and UA-cam still has no way to determine context. You could do a video explaining 50 ways to end your life and that would be fine and the creator can profit from it but if you put the title of this song on your video it gets demonetized.

The problem is all statements like this do is show a misunderstanding of how depression works. People who struggle with depression to that level are unable to see beyond their pain. It's just so crushing and for a lot of people it can be difficult to cope with. Depression isn't always treatable. People need to have more compassion and understanding of just how heavy a weight it is instead of passing it off like it's something that will go away. Depression isn't bad weather. It's not always an easy fix.

Remembering that it's been episodic in its intensity when the circumstances change helps. Therapy's helped too somehow, but for me, only with the combination of circumstantial change for possibly the better.
I appreciate that loved ones have been vocal when it's mattered that I still matter to them even after all that's happened, it helps anchor me here.

I consider it the perfect healing album when one is feeling distressed. Then, I kept listening to their previous works backwards until "Kill 'Em all" and they ended up becoming my favorite band. Curiously, the second record I bought was "Permission to Land", by a new band called The Darkness. They are my favourite bands and the only of which I have the complete physical discography.❤

Re the main topic, when on 7:07 you talk about "...man in certain age group, after the midlife crisis, starting to feel they're not needed any more..." I've just passed 60 and went through all that jazz. It's not that. Rather it's that all the new major troubles you encounter - financial/marital/housing etc crisis - suddenly look definite. With no time nor the energy to remedy & recover like before. No, not thinking about 'Druid Pride' here :), just shedding a light on how life problems seem different when you enter my (hell, Hetfield too) years. He knew what he was writing about. This song rocks! Has the same punch as Hey Stoopid by Alice Cooper - highly recommended classic if you want to hear Slash, Joe Satriani and Ozzy Osbourne in the same song along with the stellar Cooper's band. Cheers!

Hey Justin, your comments on the seasons of a mans life are so refreshing. There's got to be more said, I think. I'm 60, and I truly think this needs to be discussed much more, and also, together with the subject matter of your video today. Having recently lost several of my ex band members of varying age, the youngest in his early 50s, who was a great musician, but through the overuse of amphetamines to cope with life, he must have sped up his clock cycle. Please keep up your great humanistic approach to commenting, something you really see or hear these days. Keep rocking, kid! 🎸🎙👍

I'm looking forward to the whole album dropping, I have been loving the production sound on the last two songs they have put out. I wasn't really keen on the digital sound recording on Death Magnetic and Hardwired, Just felt it didn't have that big room warmy sound they had been doing under Bob Ross, So whoever the sound engineer is on this album but they have a good ear and got that warm fat tone sound from 90's Metallica.

The usage of blues licks really kicks in the message. Then you get the Metallica we all know and love. Yes some parts are very simple and dialed down, probably to give the message the front seat, not a blinding riff or solo.

As a suicide attempt survivor it's not something that should be afraid to say because it needs to be talked about and have the light shown on it. Darkness is less fearful in the light. It's not something to be swept under the rug. It needs to be up front and center.

The message comes across well; loud and clear. Good work Justin. It's an uncomfortable topic and there are many songs about it. I have a massive respect for J.Hetfield's work. I have genuine respect for highlighting the unpleasantness of discussing the topic of suicide and keeping the conversations going. Playing and listening to music is good medicine, on the other hand. So are your podcasts/tubecasts?? My love to you, man

I love that Metallica are not afraid to tackle difficult subjects. Ive experienced depression first hand, I didnt realise what it was until after I started to feel normal again. The statistics for one off bouts of depression are that in the majority of cases they are preceded by prolonged periods of stress. It alters your normal brain chemistry which can lead to thoughts of taking your life. One thing ive learned from studying psychology is that it can be corrected. One way is to do some good old fashioned heavy weight lifting. The effects of this are lasting and build on each preceding session.

I totally agree Justin there seemed to be a spree of men my age who either lived in my area or where the father of friends of my teenage daughters. Not nearly enough is done to support men. We have the pressure of having to maintain a stiff upper lip and suck it up. So songs like this are excellent to raise awareness.

The only criticism I'd have after hearing 2 songs, is sonically they have kept it the exact same as the last album, sounds like it's recorded with the same mics/amps/guitars/drums/desk/producer. Not that it's bad, just it _sounds_ like Hardwired to Self Destruct Pt 2. Like a Load/Reload situation. But then I guess I should be happy I can hear the bass and it hasn't been brickwalled to distortion this time.

How ironic that Metallica is pointing to not talking about suicide being a problem, that the very topic is so censored on UA-cam. If it can't be talked about, all we're doing it giving it more power over those of us who might succumb to it. Fuck that, bring it in to the light, TALK about it and help those that NEED it

Banning or self-censoring the word suicide will not make it go away. Acting like this just creates more intrigue around the word which will have the reverse desired effect of making it taboo and therefore making younger, more impressionable people more intrigued in the word and it’s meaning. The world has truly gone mad.

Don't blame Justin. That's UA-cam's fault. UA-cam feels the word 'suicide' and videos discussing it might scare away advertisers so they demonitze & delist videos that mention the topic. If you want to complain to someone go complain to Google.

@@hannahmitchell87 Not that UA-cam is a great company by any stretch of the imagination, but this is probably just Justin self-censoring for monetization purposes (since advertisers don't want to be associated with it). You can find any number of UA-cam videos on the topic - including ones with the word directly in the title.

@@perlundgren7797 Ahh I see. I thought it was against community guidelines or something. Can't seem to have an opinion without 20 minutes of disclaimers nowadays! But that's just me 🤷‍♀️ & I've no idea the implications of that for his channel

I'd call this the Aolian Mode Upon F sharp, with the added flattened fifth; F sharp, G sharp, A, B, C natural (flat 5), C sharp, E.... This is, o'course, the blues scale in the minor pentatonic upon F#, which I'm sure will translate as "F hashtag"... This idiomatic sonic landscape can be used for such things as, say, recalling meeting a human vixen at The Whitby Folk Festival, and the happenings.. "she was.... 🎶"... Nice one Justin. 🌟👍

Loved your reaction video as a whole, but I find it kinda ironic that you're unable to say the word suicide (for a totally understandable reasons), but that's EXACTLY what the song is about.. That we should be able to talk about it and talking from the suicide POV we should NOT "keep it inside" as this is what it wants you to do, which is the beginning of the destruction really.
Hope to see you react to the rest of the album when it comes out! 🥂
