  • There has been backlash to Sam Smith's new song and music video "I'm Not Here To Make Friends". I don't usually react to pop or "mainstream" music very often, but since it's causing a bit of a stir I thought I'd see what all the fuss is about.

Justin, I would like to propose a suggestion for the theme tune.
Now that Rufus is around because you are on tour, Could you, please, ask him to play the cymbals in a "fading away mode" (I don't know the specific word for that drum beat) when you sing the last againnnnn?
It would be okay if he appears or not in the video if he doesn't want to. Anyway, It would be f***ing awesome!!!🫶

You seem to care a lot about pronouns and what other people liked to be called. Also, "they" has been used as singular form since 1375. It's not a new thing. You can call someone whatever you like, or you can call them what they'd like to be called. It's totally up to you.

Anaconda by Nicki Minaj is also an example of this, and I remember being really shocked there was no age restriction to it. There really should be for videos like this, I remember Become The Knight calling this out because his reaction to a (different) highly vulgar Cardi B video got restricted yet the original video didn't.

My dad owned all of Elton's albums and i used to "steal" them and listen to them frontwards to backwards. We must remember how incredibly flamboyant he was back in the day. He's become a bit more less so in his older years, but in the 70's and 80's he was performing wearing feather boas, sequined suits, crazy eyewear and all sorts of outlandish costumes. I don't recall people throwing hissy fits over his choice of attire or performing style. Everyone thought it's simply Elton being Elton. Or what about Liberace? Same thing. He was known for his outlandish costumes and campiness. Or David Bowie.... the list goes on and on... I agree with the song being catchy, however my views as a mum to three and not having the internet when I was growing up is: I agree that there should be some censorship about the ages of people who can see these videos. Because allowing young impressionable children that do not recognise them as only being a show or bravado, opens up those young people to abuse. I have always told my children that they can tell me things because if they don’t I cannot protect them. No one is going to get them and an adult that tells them they will or try’s to scare them into keeping quite is saying that because they are going to be in serious trouble if they get caught. All artists who are behind children growing up to be who they want to be without being pulled from one side to another should promote that. Also to all those parents complaining if you are oppressively strict you allow those individuals who are seeking to abuse children in as someone who is understanding and seemingly listens to your children all while pulling them slowly away. So listen to your children build trust so if someone approaches them online or in person they will tell you. ❤

Nothing wrong with being gay, or crossdressing… it’s the demand to make people think a man is a woman that is problematic…

CIS = Cisgender (often shortened to cis; sometimes cissexual) is a term used to describe a person whose gender identity corresponds to their sex assigned at birth.

Why does non-binary always mean “I want to wear dresses”? Be whatever gender (or not) you want to be. But it seems the only aspect of the feminine nature that gets explored is costumery and cosmetics. I can sing falsetto too. That has nothing to do with gender. Surely there’s more to non-male than those aspects. SOOOOOOOOO tired of hairy legs sticking out from under women’s (NOT non-binary, but *women’s*) garb.

@@whatifschrodingersboxwasacofin As though we don't all know your backward ideology by now. When you learn that the concept of 'gender' is based in nothing more than sex stereotyping get back to me. We went over this in the 60's and 70's already. Please catch up.
