Secret Shimano Di2 Buttons

- Most cyclist using Di2 road shifters are unaware of the buttons on the top of their levers. Did you know that they can be programmed to shift gear, or control your GPS
No need to buy extra buttons.
Just program them to do what you want in E-tube project software.
Originally they were intended to control a compatible bike computer via the optional D-fly wireless module.
With the latest software and firmware updates from Shimano you can now use these secret buttons to do much more.
I wasn't aware of how useful these secret buttons are until one of our subscribers asked me about them. Thank you, Dick Tchairdjian

Does the Bluetooth EW-WU111 work on the Dura Ace DI 2 9070?
Sure would be great if more cycle computer manufactures would provide the compatibility to play with Di2. Those buttons are useless to me but what I would like to use them for is scrolling the screens of my Garmin cycle computer. I have an Edge Explore and Garmin left the option out for that model. I think it would provide a better level of safety by not having to take your hands off the bars in situations were road conditions are bad but you have to switch screens.
I agree.
Thanks for the great video! Can I still use the secret buttons if I don't have the wireless module, or a connection to a PC ?
You can use the secret buttons to control up or down shifts, but you will need to program them with a PC.
Hi Saul, will this be possible on the ultegra 6870 ddi2 group set?
Not sure. Connect to the E-tube Project software and see if you have the buttons.
Yes it works. See my other reply below. Basically you need to use S2 synchro mode to free up the left shifter which can then be set to d-fly channels to control your Garmin
Nice work-around, using the left shifter to control your bike computer instead of the front derailleur.
You can also configure long press of the buttons to change pages on the Garmin. But I love synchro shifting and that leaves my left shifter buttons perfect to use for controlling the Garmin. I’m trying to figure out if you can use the di2 buttons to also change tracks on your phone... So far I see an app that works with the Garmin watch to do that but not for the Garmin Edge head unit
Looking forward to more experimentation. Stay in touch.
Is this applicable to Ultegra 6870? I thought it was only available for dura ace.
Not sure. The E-tube Project Software will tell you what options are available.
I think it is for Durace only
That version of Ultegra Di2 shifter does not have the secret buttons on top. The newer Ultegra shifters have them.
is also possible in new ultegra 8050
@@AlexssandroPhoto According to the Shimano dealer manual, Yes. When you connect to the E-tube project software you should see all switch options. si.shimano.com/pdfs/dm/DM-R8050-01-ENG.pdf
When I ride 100 cadence uphill and I want to do standing 60 cadence I have to change front to big ring and lower rings in the back, for example from 17-39 (100 cadence) to 14-50 (65 cadence). It's basically the opposite to automatic shifting as you go harder gears instead of compensating. My question is: It is possible to use autoshifting with your Right shift buttons and at the same time disable compensating when you changing front ring manually with Left shifter? Or even better - It is possible to somehow programm secret buttons to automatically go big ring in front and go 3 rings down in the back instead of compensating? Thank you
Yes you can manually shift using secret buttons to accomplish this.
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul Cool. Thank you
You're welcome.
Is this available in Ultegra 8050?
