Just a tip if it's not mentioned already you can move the shifter without the car on by removing that tab on the top left of the shifter it reveals a white button that when you press it allows you to move the shifter wherever.
Thanks Clint! Did mine today and did it exactly how you instructed. As referenced in the pinned comment above, yes, you don't "need" to remove the 4 screws. However, if you do its not a major issue at all. You just will have to disconnect the plugs underneath the console which will completely free the console for you to take it out. I actually prefer removing it all the way out because you can align the cup holder screws so much more easier with them falling out of place. Either way there is no harm in Clint's method..just adds an extra step that is not shown (removing the wires). Thanks again!
Hi Clint, thanks for making the instructions in your videos, easy to a beginner. I bought a 1999 Lexus ES300 recently. I'd much rather try some things myself save a buck or two, before going to a mechanic shop. Thank you!
Very thankful as always with your es300 videos! My mouth dropped when you removed it within 2 seconds lol. I thought mine was going to snap in half as I was trying to pull it from the console. LOL I was trying for like 5 minutes. I finally got it. And thanks again.
Thanks. The best way would be to replace the stereo for that one. If you want to keep what you have, I would recommend picking up a bluetooth to FM transmitter off Amazon. They are pretty cheap and will let you play your music through bluetooth to any FM radio.
I'm with Goofy. Great video, and I never would have gone about it as described. And the area under the shifter piece was gross. Even more so under the storage compartment. BUT, you do NOT have to remove the four screws that hold the inner storage compartment to the outer plastic. Simply unscrew the 2 screws near the shifter, and the 2 under the rear cupholder and unclip the wiring to get the storage unit out. And if you need to take the little fake leather piece off the front of the cupholder like I did, gently pry up the 2 tabs that hold the piece onto the cupholder. Having a magnetic screwdriver is a near necessity to get the 2 screws in the back of the cupholder.
Thank you so much for this video. I went to do this the other day and got a little intimidated. Funny enough, the ES300 I bought had both cup holders and the ash tray broken. I feel like you made this video specifically for me and people like me ;)
789456456123 I tried to pull out the cupholder and it wouldn't budge. So I knew if I jumped on UA-cam and scrolled threw Clint's video's he would be the one who I could count on! He's an angel for these video's!
Do NOT! Do NOT!!! remove the 4 pan metal screws on the outside of the cowling (plastic cover that sits above the "hump" in the middle) those screws in the 1997 version of the ES300 that he says you may have to move the seats to access, they only hold the center console storage box in place in the console proper. IF you remove them that box can, and in my case DID "shift" or "drop" out of position and then you have an entirely different set of alignment problems which MAY prevent the cupholder from opening AT ALL. I solved the new problem by disconnecting all those electrical leads underneath which allows you to pull the center console entirely, which allows you to install the new cupholder without odd angles... BUT if you don't take out those 4 screws - this video is perfect... easier if you disconnect the electrical leads, BUT I WOULDN'T HAVE GOTTEN THERE WITHOUT THIS VIDEO GUIDE, so just my 2 cents worth to Clint's mucho-money saving guide.
Good to know. I don't have a 97 to know but I will move your comment to top to hopefully warn others. Thanks for letting us know and thanks for watching.
OK, OK, soooo, I have the '97 Avalon, the console of which, I mention elsewhere, looks exactly like this. If I do NOT remove those, "cowl," screws, will I still be able to gain access to the underside of the entire console? (As mentioned in my other comment, I'm actually trying to retrieve my darned drivers license...not replace the drink holder.)
Could you try to show me how to replace a 2008 Toyota Corolla rear cup holder? I have looked everywhere for a video and cannot find one. I would appreciate it.
Nice video. I took mine apart a few months back on trying to modify the cup holders with a dremel tool only to find out that it was nearly impossible and too much work and didn't want to take the whole weekend away. Lol
Is this the same process for the 2004 Lexus ES330? Looks different on the rear side of the center console AC for removal so that I can replace my front cupholders
Can you please shoe how to change an IGNITION SWICTH on a 2002 es300..i know it is behind the panel and it is connect to the back of the key cylinder , it is only 2 screws and a clip, but i do not know how to get to it Thanks
Unfortunately I don't have this car to produce a video on that. However, if you visit www.eautorepair.net, you can actually buy the factory service manual on how to replace the ignition. That's how I figure out many of the videos I post to my channel.
It would be really cool to see if you could find a way to upgrade the front cupholders they are fine for what they are but they can’t hold a modern day water bottle without it falling out every turn.
Agreed. I feel like a lot of cars are that way. I know Weathertech and several others make adapters to let you put bigger glasses or bottles into the smaller cup holders.
It should be roughly the same for any model between 1997 and 2001. Roughly. Basically my way of saying it should be, but who knows.I only have the 1998 model.
I have that car lexus es300 and i found the two holder plastic whiskers looking the ones that pop out when the cup holders are opened and do u think i can replace just those
juan garcia were you able to replace just the flimsy plastic arms that pop out? I know i was able to remove the broken one (but i forgot how i did it. I think b/c it was broken i just twisted it out but to put one back in may be a different story) do tell if it was easy!
@@ClintHolland Clint - thanks for the video. Do you know whether the two plastic arms/rings on the front cupholder assembly can "pop" back into place? The one on the right fell (or broke?) out and I've been fiddling with it to try to snap it back in. It doesn't appear broken (no sharp plastic edges anywhere) but I guess it could be missing a screw or something. Is it possible to snap it back into place? Do I just need to buy a new assembly? Thanks!
@@TobyTatum I am not going to say they can't, I am going to say this. I had the almost exact problem and after fighting with it for an hour I just bought a new entire cup holder assembly on Ebay. But patience is not my best quality.
Nope, that's the original one. You can buy replacement ones on Ebay. I believe to remove it if you will take off the trim plate around it, you will see the screws under it to remove it. That is just from memory though.
I changed my cup holder with one I purchased on E-bay. After installing it. it will not open. Did I do something wrong? Please give me your thoughts . Thanks Barry
Great video. Thank you. What if only driver's side cup spring that holds cup came off? Is there a way to just clip it back in without taking the whole thing out?
Doubtful. You might could pull that off but it would be very difficult without removing it and since removing it is pretty easy that is my recommendation.
I need to replace the cup holder in a 1995 Toyota Avalon. It seems like the instructions might be very similar to this? Should I attempt or continue searching for a video specific to the Avalon? Thank you for reading this.
I am stuck at the part where you remove the rear cup holder. It won’t lift out like yours did. I am pulling pretty hard but I don’t want to break it. Any recommendations?
So what you don't see in this video is how hard I had to pull on it to get it out the first time. Be careful but I noticed that some of the metal had rusted behind it and it was really tough to get out. Maybe shoot it with some WD-40.
Thanks! I was actually able to get my neighbor to help me. He works on cars a lot and found another to do it to where we didn’t need to remove the rear cup holder. But I bet it was rusted and that’s why I couldn’t get it out.
Where can I get the replacement part from?the cup holder itself I have but the thin plastic part that moves when you open it is missing and I don’t know where to get that piece from
I have a '97 Toyota Avalon, which, I'm guessing, came out about the time these Lexus' started because it looks just like this. Unfortunately, the reason I was watching was to figure out how to get something out of that console, which slipped in from laying on top of the front cup holder. I'm now guessing that it is probably gone permanently... I cannot tell, from this video, where it might have dropped to. (The transmission?) :::sigh:::
I really like your video and appreciate your it.
